Anybody else grin a little when he said “this is my favorite part” and we hadn’t even gotten to the good part?
“Is he gon’ stop?”
No. No he is not.
No one is EVER ready for the beat change
Shon, you absolutely must react to the Live Version of this from the Oakland Coliseum in 1977. One of the best live performances you'll see.
I just told him the same thing!
@@danarussell1291 Completely understandable. The Live Version of Free Bird just hits different, and I honestly have to say the Oakland Coliseum 1977 is probably the best video of it live. The audience really helps to immerse the viewer into the song and video. You can just close your eyes and imagine being there.
YESSSSSS!
Yeah you think he’s going in here, watch the live version 😂🔥❤️
Unfortunately, Oakland might have been the last big performance before the tragic crash,
This one always hits hard. Played it at the end of my father's funeral. It was too fitting.
One of my favorite movies is the Cameron Crowe movie Elizabethtown. The band plays this at the father’s wake. It’s so good. One of the greatest scenes I’ve ever seen in a movie.
I just love watching young people discover the music of my generation. Just remember, the old guy you see shuffling along most likely rocked to this !!
Now. . . free as an old bird now
Probably one of the best reactions I’ve seen to Free Bird. Respect.
Never forget about the one drummer back there KILLIN IT.
When the tempo picked up, Shon’s shoulders went crazy! He nearly took flight for real!! 🕊️🪶ThIs boy’s a FREE Bird!! 👏✨😎
Fly high Freebird
The live version is a must!
💯🤘
From Oakland. I would say HELL YES 😉
Yes!!!!!
The greatest southern rock song of all time, from the greatest southern rock band of all time! Thanks for your reaction.
My two adult daughters were made to this song I look at my grandkids and smile - they will never know
they might know now, if they know your UA-cam handle.🤣🤣
This one right here... Absolute playlist hands down🔥I hope y'all enjoy, much love!
We love you shon!!!
Lynard Skynard Simple Man will be on your playlist too I bet! Check it out! You're awesome Shon!
I LOVE your reactions! Just a bit of rock&roll trivia...if a band is ever playing on the stage in a club and they ask for requests...DO NOT shout "Freebird!"...there is a good chance they might just jump you...it's just one of those things...it's long, it's complicated, and it's nearly impossible to play perfectly...also, I don't know if you noticed but their first album is literally titled, It's Prounounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd...
Please check out _Freebird_ Live from Oakland Coliseum July 2nd, 1977 concert video... it's significantly better than just hearing the studio version. No question. I promise.
Check out the live version from England.
All the people telling you that you HAVE to see the live version, they ain't wrong.
Skynyrd songs, you don’t just listen to them, you feel them. Greatness.
This was played at every single dive bar in the world. Every band had to learn to play this because inevitably, someone in the audience would scream "Free Bird!" at every single bar. Did it for years in the 70s and 80s. lol
I reacted much the way you did back in 1974 when I heard it for the first time.
This was the debut album too.
Bad asses all of them, friggin bad asses…RIP boys. All together in Heaven now.
Welcome to the world of Lynyrd Skynyrd. You will not be disappointed. Thanks for the reaction.
Watching young people reacting to this song when the solo kicks in is my favorite thing! I notice your eyes watering up a little when it kicks in! I heard this song 1000 times and I still get a little watery!
The video of this live at the Oakland coliseum is even better.
This great but you MUST do the live version Oakland Festival 7/1977. They added a piano, and the performance will amaze you. They lost Ronnie (lead singer), Steve Gaines( guitarist), Cassie Gaines (Steve's sister and backup singer), road manager and pilots in a plane crash. 20 others survived.
Definitely
Absolutely!! That version takes me back to high school ❤❤❤❤ RVZ 4ever ❤❤❤❤
LISTEN TO WHAT BELLA SAID.
The Solo at the end of the song is three separate guitarists. They take turns playing, at times harmonizing with each other while other times battling with one another. It was their signature sound. Listen to Down South Junkin, Gimme Three Steps, I Know a Little, Call Me The Breeze, The Ballad Curtis Leow & their biggest song... Sweet Home Alabama!
Leon Wilkeson (Bass player) died on my birthday in 2001. My girlfriend had gotten me tickets to their show that was going to be just a few days later so I got to see their memorial show for Leon. It was an amazing night and they played Free Bird in his honor that night with his tophat and bass under the spotlight for the whole song. The final solo that night went on for 45 minutes
In an interview the lead singer Ronnie Van Zant said this song is about the feeling of feeling free like a bird and it is said that this is one of the songs they are really remembered for . Sadly just a couple months ago we lost the last original member of the band Gary Rossington
Their performance of this live, in concert, became so iconic that when you would go to night clubs back in the day - when they used to have live bands - you would almost always hear the crowd shouting "Free Bird!!!", lol.
I was always determined, if I ever formed the band I was always meaning to form, that we'd have a really tight version of Freebird ready, just in case.
Unfortunately you still do. As a rock DJ thro 80s and 90s, heard too much. But they were good when I saw them live in the 70s. ☮️❤️
I'm so glad that you checked out the studio version First and in general with Lynyrd Skynyrd, those recordings were so amazing and it's what we heard on the radio and we bought the albums and you really deserve to hear it that way. But they were really good live too, and for example the live recording of this song, and I've seen a lot of reactions to it, is from 1977 not long before the plane crash. There are two main versions of it popular on UA-cam and they both are amazing but I think most people prefer the sound quality and just the overall performance itself of Freebird at the concert in Oakland Coliseum.
Exactly. Studio version is almost always best for the first listen. People yellowing about the live version have already heard the studio version 100 times, so they already know exactly how the actual song goes. After that, watching the live performances is great.
I feel like the Oakland recording must have some cuts in the solo, because it crashes really fast into the ending. I always felt it was so hilariously Skynrd that when they were playing Freebird live they'd reach the part that was clearly intended to be the close of the song, but they'd still take like another three minutes actually to finish.
@@davidhills3100 over 2 minutes cut out of end of Oakland solo, it happened in full in real time, full audio exists.
@@timmt1398 Thank you! That confirms the suspicion.
Allen Collins’ guitar solo is a pure gift to music. Legendary.
It bothers me when seeing videos of great guitar riffs & this one is left out as one of the top three of all time. Allen Collins perfected this when he was 18 years old. The video of this song at a concert at the Oakland Coliseum in 1977 really shows off the talents of all the guitarists. Steve Gaines also should receive more recognition. What a shame that the plane crash occurred.
This song was a religion for all rockers not just southerners back then. See the live version for the audience too. They were mesmerized and excited at the same time. Just one of those iconic songs that will go onto each generation
How would you like to hear this when I was 14 in 1976! This music changed my life!!!
Great southern rock band from the 60's-80's. It is very sad what happened to this band in losing so many members in a plane crash in 1977. My favorite songs are "Simple Man", "Free Bird" & "Sweet Home Alabama". They had lots of great songs such as "Call Me The Breeze", "Tuesday's Gone", "That Smell", "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew", "What's Your Name", "Saturday Night Special", "Gimme Three Steps" etc.
💯!
Wish I could have enjoyed them more when they played in Milwaukee in 1974. We were in Row ZZ, but it was SO loud it was painful. My ears rang for a week after.
Yes, ALL of those are great songs.
i’m a young kid so tuesday’s gone always makes me think of happy gilmore
@@LastTuneBender It's great that movies & tv keep great music alive for younger people.
One of the BEST bands of all time!!!!!!!!!!!
The first time I saw Skynyrd, my jaw went slack and stayed that way. The music is catchy as hell and the guitars are simply outrageous.
Southern rock at it's finest!
What's gonna be even more amazing is that as you listen to this epic song over and over, you will begin to learn to play air guitar, and start hitting the huge licks and jumping around your room ... Your on fire son! great reaction and keep diving into the deep well of classic rock and roll music. Peace to you on your path.
Welcome to the world of Southern Rock, three guitars no waiting. Yes, check them out live. Will not disappoint. Great reaction
There's actually 3 "lead" guitarists and a bass player. 3 band members of the band and their manager died in a plane crash in 1977...one of them was the lead singer Ronnie Van Zant. Several others were seriously injured.
Love them southern boys!🎸🎸🎸
"When I go to the gym today, this is what I'm bumpin." LOL Right..
Exactly.
Also, the name of the band is named for their high school gym teacher! He said that they were kind of problematic sometimes but overall he was fond of them. And he was astonished later when they exploded into unternational stardom. But he apparently always had a soft spot in his heart for them.
Leonard skinner. Which incidentally is the name of barts principle on the Simpson.
you need to see (!) the live version with this hippie crowd back then ... ♥
You have discovered one of the greatest bands of southern rock who came out of Florida in the 70s!! Good rabbit hole! Curtis Lowe, Tuesdays Gone, and you may know Sweet Home Alabama. Just a few suggestions for you of their music. Thank you Shon! Love your channel!!
So glad you are discovering Lynyrd Skynyrd, one of the most iconic rock bands ever. They sadly were ended with a horrible plane crash in 1977, just as they were continuing a meteoric rise. They just added Steven Gaines and then the damn crash happened.
It's one of those very rare bands where I literally like every song off of every album. They're all slightly different from each other and there's a lot of variety but they do have their own unique sound, it's definitely southern rock, but really it's almost in its own category it's so good and so unique to them. It's in the Lynyrd Skynyrd category, know what I mean?
And this debut album by them is incredible, but then all of their albums are incredible. Even though the name of this first album is just Lynyrd Skynyrd, it almost immediately became known as the so-called "Pronounced" album.
Your first reaction right there, is the same reaction I have to this day when I hear the song and I've heard if hundreds of times.
It just hits differently, timelessly, with power and stank.
Objectively, this is the greatest Rock and Roll song off all time.
💯
Big time stank!
They named their band after their high school coach Leonard Skinner cos he was always on their asses about the dress code, their hair and their rock and roll attitudes. He's now only buried a couple from them at the cemetery. Odd how life works, huh?
Got to watch live version and watch that triple threat in action
one lesson learned, never pause on a AMAZING guitar solo.
Need to check out the live version!
Watch them live in the video in California holy shit, I’m so glad I got to grow up with this music. I’m 64 and they were Definitely the greatest southern rock band of all time ❤
This is a Southern Rock jam session at it's finest! We played this at every party and barbeque in our teens and twenties!🥁🎹🎸🎛🎤🎶👊
So happy to live where these boys were born and raised. It gives us energies. There's something spiritual about this area.
The Live concert version will blow your socks off
Just found my new favorite reactor! WOW! Truly awesome reaction to a great song. New subscriber for sure!
Glad that you reacted to the studio version (1973) first.
It's an absolute must to follow it up with their live performance at the Oakland Coliseum on July 2nd 1977, simply a masterpiece.
Great reaction BUT you really need to react to the live version at the Oakland Coliseum July 1977!!!! EPIC CONCERT!!! There are 4 guitarists shredding!!!🎵🎼🎶🥁🎤🎙🎸🎹🔥🤘🤘🤘🤘 So much more impressive live!!!
The live version also has an incredible piano solo!
Chippendales dancer reviewing southern rock and bopping. All is good.
Almost 50 years on and the guitar solo is still playing!!
Your an absolute blast to watch. My first time on your channel I really enjoyed your reaction! This is an all time great tune 🔥🤘
You can hear the bird flying with the guitar - amazing !
In the album cover photo, the guy who played the solo is second from right, Allen Collins
heard somewhere in the galaxy, this solo is still going! 😂 RIP to all the members of such an incredible rock band.
LOL.....great reaction bro. Ive been loving this song for 30+ years, back when I was a young buck like you.
"Is he going to stop any time soon?" No. No he is not.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of the greatest Country Rock bands another great song from them
So glad you like the music 🎵🎶🎶🎵 , take it to the gym and enjoy your day ❤❤❤❤❤
Birds gotta fly.
People gotta be free.
I know most will suggest you go to the live version from Oakland, but I am going to suggest Knebworth live because it’s almost like watching thousands of reactors watching it for the first time. The majority of the crowd at Knebworth are just waiting for the Stones to come on and the change in the crowd from beginning to end is like two opposites sides of the spectrum
Yes - them making their way down the “tongue” stage of The Rolling Stones (which they were told not to do) is classic. Notice bass guitarist Leon Wilkerson could not make it all the way down the tongue. According to Craig Reed( LS roadie aka The Stoned Roadie) they did not have enough extension for Leon’s guitar so he was left behind ha ha.
The Stones had a hard time coming on stage after that one!
This world needs collaborations. A solid foundation.
Love your reaction . When you do the Oakland live version please do not pause during the solo . Just ride the wave . Luv ya thanks
I've always seen it as the three guitars playing at the end are the bird finally flying free.
There are actually 3 guitars making that iconic sound. The sound of his bird flying free..
Three guitars help make the whirlwind!!! Ultimate Jam
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
You absolutely must see 👀 this live 😲👍🏻👌
You gonna adore it 👍🏻👌
Keep the good work my friend ✌️
Hands down my favorite reaction to Freebird. New subscriber from this reaction alone. Very entertaining. ❤
Definitely check out the live version! Iconic song!
Yeah, you've got to react to this live, everything you're hearing in the studio version is actually done as good if not even better! Thanks, this was awesome!
Go back to the 70s and the dance floor be like...slow song, couples all wrapped up... then all hell breaks loose and people be flying off the dance floor .
I GREW UP ON THIS MUSIC! And there will never be anything better than what came out the 70s and the 80s! I consider myself privileged to have lived through it!
Live at Knebworth Best performance of LIVE Skynyrd ive ever seen
For years I never told my wife I can play so many instruments and played this at the music store. I played drums and saxophone.
Time to do the live version now! Oakland!
R.I.P. Ronnie!!!
A Great and supremely iconic guitar solo in Rock History!
These guys were insane. They used to practice 19 hrs a day in a hot ass shack.
Shon,
I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd live in concert. Best dang concert I ever went to.
Prepare to fly Hi ! This rabbit hole called lynyrd skynyrd is freaking amazing!
Y'all know Def Leppard? The late guitarist Steve Clarke auditioned for the band in the late 70's with the guitar solo from this amd passed the audition. CLASSIC ROCK.
One of the deepest catalogues out there - they are the pentacle of southern rock! You really owe it to listen to another in the pantheon of classic/southern rock - The Allman Brothers Band - Whipping Post - it will blow your mind - ultimate banger. Loved your energy and love for the music - I subscribed - keep Rockin’
You have no idea what you missed not reacting to the live version recorded in Oakland in 1977. 7/2/1977 at the Oakland Coliseum Stadium. The energy of the band and the energy of the crowd was off the charts. They actually sounded better live.
You wasn’t ready for that solo 😂😂😂 FUCKIN FREEBIRD! 🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great reaction great song you may want to watch the live version its epic
absolutely must react to the Live Version of this from the Oakland Coliseum in 1977.
This is the music I came of age with. Great times. Great music. Now you know what's missing today!! Head back to the 70s for mind blowing music!! ✌️💗🌹 From the Peace, Love and Flower Power Generation 💖 PS....you really want them to stop?????? 🤯🤯🤯
It's always fun watching someone react to hearing this song for the first time. Was not disappointed.👍
And for the record, ronnie was a country boy and he always sang barefoot on stage
Free Bird has one of the best build ups ❤
GREATEST guitar solo EVER!!!
Knew about these guys as a kid. Only listened to their big popular songs like free bird, simple man, that smell, gimme 3 steps. Only recently have i come into listening their less popular tunes and im still blown away by their compositions.
My cheeks hurt for smiling so much watching you
The inter webs turning all kinds of folks onto all kinds of music is the best
