Great reaction! Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of my all time favorite bands. My only suggestion would have been to watch the live version from Oakland Coliseum in 1977 or Knebworth in 1976. They are one of the few bands that were actually better live. The reason this song faded out at the end is because it was cut short. The live version is full length.
Yes indeed. I was at the "Day on the Green" Concert in Oakland CA. 1977. Skynyrd, Framptom, Santana, Outlaws. Sweet memories and Im as Free as a Bird Now.
This is the Classic Rock anthem of all anthems. This is from there debut album (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) released on August 13th 1973. I highly recommend their live version from the Oakland Coliseum on July 2nd 1977. Thank you kindly.
It was a GREAT show! The Outlaws were first up on This Day on The Green. Got us warmed up for LS and 60,000 + rocked and rocked out! Santana was next and he is always amazing. Peter Frampton was last and sucked eggs so we left. A long day until the eve.
With Skynyrd it wasn't just about the songs, it was about their talent to make their instruments sing as well. No synthetic garbage. Just raw musical talent.
The one at Knebworth is better. It’s The Best to me. Listen to all the differences in guitars, bass and keys. Allen Collins jams way harder in that concert than at Oakland and we know he jammed hard in Oakland. At one point you can see Ronnie behind with his jaw hanging wide open.
@@mikeellis3240 I heartily agree. The atmosphere and video recording of this performance is several levels higher. Unfortunately, most of the reactors, to their detriment, watch the show from Oakland.
I agree. My favorite live song of theirs is T for Texas - so much fun and shows each of the three guitarists at their best, especially how they complement each other, fill for each other, hand off the lead, etc. Just fantastic.
Free bird is a massive guitar solo with a vocal intro. I can only imagine that at the time it came out that it was like nothing that anyone had ever heard before.
Welcome to Southern Rock.... One hellofa genre to deep dive into. Some of the best classics ever to have been sung are from here. Highly recommend a deep dive into Lynyrd Skynyrd's catalog. Songs with real meaning about real life. As always thanks for being open to expanding your musical horizons, you guys rock!
I'm a yankee (From Boston but live in the south now in Jacksonville) but I've always loved southern rock. I was singing these songs as a 4 year old with my parents. :)
The thing that's great about rock is that these were talented musicians that actually wrote their own music and played the instruments, not like today's music which is mostly factory made.
I agree the musicians really had to practice to the point of healed blisters getting blisters. When Lynyrd Skynyrd started out it took a long time to get anywhere. They had a whole album of material that was already recorded in Alabama. However they simply didn’t have the right contacts to get national recognition. I followed a band with equal talent that could make a crowd absolutely get enthusiastic and loved this band. However the label decided for whatever reason they didn’t meet their needs. So the label made their lives miserable by not backing them at all. This band played the East Coast and over to Texas so pretty much the south. Everywhere they played people loved them. They even opened for major rock bands that came to Florida. The band was called Stranger Band. I’ve seen them open for The Outlaws and Molly Hatchet. I’ve also seen them open for Triumph and Pat Travers. I must have seen this band 20-30 more times in bars that usually had a 3- 5 dollar cover to get in with a few drink minimum. One night they had already played a packed house full set. About 35-40 minutes later there was someone up on the stage who I thought looked like Greg Allman but the lights were too dim to tell. Slowly other guys came out and he sat at the keyboards and they cranked out whipping Post to the letter. Then he sat in on their songs and it was simply incredible. So I got to see Stranger Band featuring Greg Allman for $3 and a Long Island ice tea that I nursed because I didn’t want to drink and ruin the evening. But that’s how close some bands get to fame without going all the way. Lynyrd Skynyrd could have just been another bar band with really great songs but unlucky getting any major label backing. P.S. check out Swamp woman or Jackie’s so bad. They have a couple better songs IMO but those two are what the crowds always wanted to hear first.
I hate to break it to you buddy but every artist and or band has a ghost writer and or the studio they are signed to dictates what music they will do. When you sign that contract with them they own you. It isn’t just rap music that’s controlled rock and roll is also. Lynyrd Skynyrd is talented but they don’t write their own music nobody does.
@@zachariah1990 I thnk you better do some research. Most rock bands wrote their own music. Do you think record labels signed random bands? No, they signed them after they heard the music the bands wrote.
Awesome reaction! And yes, the live version at Oakland Coliseum is a must. You get to see them, there are more instruments and it is longer! It’s just awesome!
I was fortunate enough to see Lynyrd Skynyrd during the summer of 1977. If you enjoyed the guitar work, you may like Green Grass and High Tides by the Outlaws. Great reaction.
The history behind Free Bird is truly amazing . The band was recording it at the famed Muscle Shoals recording studio , mentioned in Sweet Home Alabama, and went for a lunch break. one of their roadies sat down and started to play a piano ballad from his head for the song. one of the studio engineers heard it, and was so blown away he recorded it. The roadies name was Billie Powell, unknown to the band was a classically trained pianist. He became the band’ piano player, and that was history.
That was a ball tearing period of rock..... Lynyrd Skynyrd, Foghat, Aerosmith, Derringer, etc....there's tonnes of great bands like this all awaiting your ears from that period....
I wasn’t expecting this to actually make me smile because I almost never click on reaction videos. But this was surprisingly funny and neat to see their reaction to a song I grew up playing thousands upon thousands of times at my house all through the years. Except I always play the whole album while I work.
More Lynyrd Skynyrd would be cool :) like Simple Man, Tuesday's Gone, Sweet Home Alabama, Gimme Three Steps to name a few... All those are American classics and are some of their other hits!
Watching the live concert in Oakland, CA shows you how much energy they were putting into playing this song. It was exhausting to watch. Two other things, the concert is a timeless snapshot of the culture and the two middle eastern kids with front row access were looking around wondering what world they'd stepped into.
Welcome to Skynyrd. All of the songs that they perform that are written by the band members have meaning and usually come from life experience. Ronnie VanZant the lead singer and leader of the band was once asked about the songs being on paper. His reply was, if it doesn't mean enough to be remembered it isn't worth singing. You need to experience the song Simple Man.
Happy New Year! I recommend making a reaction to one of the coolest female vocalists in the world. Diana Ankudinova - Queen of Goosebumps - Diana received such a title for her extraordinary unique voice. Diana's best performances - Derniere Danse, Wicked Game, Can't Help Falling in You Each of these speeches garnered over a thousand reactions. Diana is in the TOP 3 world vocalists in terms of the number of reactions (about 15 thousand reactions).
I tear up to this day when I hear this song I remember when there plane crashed a few miles from my home my mom was a nurse at the hospital I was waiting for to get off with my dad when the doors flew open there was all these bloody long hair people in I heard a cop tell someone a bunch of hippys had a plane crash. Didn't find out until I got home it was skynard I was devastated. RIP.
If you haven't seen the live version from 1977m, you have to watch it!! You'll never be the same. I was a teen when this came out. They are still one of my favorite groups to listen to !
Just stumbled across this but what a great reaction.. this came out when I was in grade school but by Junior High School I bought a copy of the record which this is their very first album called the pronounced album so that everybody could know how to pronounce it. It was a big running joke about how do you pronounce the name? It was named after their PE teacher in high school, lol
Perfect selection on your part! There are only a handful of songs which are perfect, and this is one of them. Ronnie's vocals, Allen and Gary's guitar work, and perfectly understated drumming by Bob Burns. Guitar World listed this as #8 of the best guitar solos of all time; but for me it's number one, no question. Absolutely one of my essential six songs I would have to have on a deserted island. Your problem after this, of course, is finding any other song that comes close. Stairway to Heaven is at least in the same league. Give that a try. All good wishes!
Love you guys!! Not sure if you've reacted to this band but if not there a Rock Band of 3 sisters from Mexico who sing in English, they have been together since they were little girls..now there ages are 22-20- 18 & they are on Fire!!!🔥🔥🔥 the Name of the Band is The Warning & the song is called Choke ...I think you 2 will really love these 3 sisters!!! The Lynyrd Skynyrd band was the first Southern Rock bands to use three lead quality guitarist one bass one drummer one keyboardists and one lead singer. The first lead on the slid guitarist is Gary Rossington the second lead who played the lead solo in Free Bird was Allen Collins and the third lead who punched the backup lead with Allen Collins was Steve Gaines who took over for Ed King who left Skynyrd in 1975, on bass was Leon Wilkinson, keyboard was Billy Powell and drummer was Artimus Pyle who took Bob Burns place when he left the band in the early part of 1974 because he could not handle the pressure of being on the road. And Ronnie VanZant on lead vocals. Ronnie VanZant, Steve Gaines, and Cassie Gaines were killed in she October 1977 plane crash. Ronnie VanZant baby brother Johnny VanZant took the lead vocal later to bring back Lynyrd Skynyrd, the last album was called Last of a Dying Breed and in my eyes and ears was Skynyrd with Johnny at lead best album and you really need to check it out. Loved your reaction, so much fun! Glad you enjoy the classic rock genre. I'm 61 and grew up sharing this music with friends, so fun to experience it again with new friends 😅 🤘.
Some of the finest rock guitar solo work ever recorded I think and the intensity, it builds and builds and you think it's peaked, then it goes even higher, and then even higher after that! Phenomenal! Most bands were lucky to have just one good lead guitarist, this band had three, so on a lot of their songs, not just this one, it was just one superb guitar lick after another.
I had fun watching this video, you two would have been having a blast add Lynyrd Skynyrd's concert in California actually any of Lynyrd Skynyrd's concert
I was wondering if you would like to react to an up and coming 3 sister Rock trio from Monterrey Mexico they have since released their 3rd and latest album Error in 2022 and their first under a commercial label and was wondering if you would like to react to them especially given they are in the process of organizing a European tour in 23 some suggested songs from the album would be Disciple, Evolve, choke, Money and Error
This is so dang cool, classic rock ...epitome of Southern Rock...reaching across decades to people thousands of miles away! Loved your reaction, think I'll stay to see what else you play from classic rock! 😊
Just found this reaction!! It makes my 57 yr old heart happy to see music can and does bring everyone to the same place, no matter where they are from around the world!! Well done!! Much love from Western North Carolina USA❤❤❤
This was my first time watching one of your reaction videos, and I loved it. I tell you, I have heard this song a thousand times by now and I still react to it the way you two just did. Keep up the reactions, I'll be watching and enjoying. Bonus points for the Lakers hoodie. haha.
First time viewer here. Loved y'all's reaction. Total abandon in reacting to one of the most iconic R&R songs ever produced. I was a teen when this first came out. Took us rock and roll kids by storm. Throughout the 70's, it was every year or so that a song or two would come out that ended up becoming iconic. Free Bird is one of them. As many have commented, the Oakland live version is as good as, if not a little better than the studio version. That is a rare event when a live version is better than the original studio version. Lynyrd Skynyrd is an amazing band. Loads of excellent songs. You two are a kick to watch. Looking forward to watching more of y'all's videos. Oh -- keep going crazy . Some of us out here are losing it right along with you.
As mentioned previously, the live show from Oakland provides a look at their live performances. Seven members which included a lead singer, keyboards, drummer and FOUR guitars
I love y'all's reaction.lol..i knew that you guys would be blown away by the guitar solos..lol..one of the best in rock n roll history Sadly most of the band has passed away but they left their music thank God.😊
This was played in my dorm constantly in 73. What a great band. Ronnie Van Zant wrote it for Duane Allman of The Allman Brothers, whose nickname was Skydog. He died on a motorcycle in November of 71. Ronnie died in a small plane crash, as did guitarist Steve Gaines, his sister and vocalist Cassie Gaines, the assistant road manager and the pilot and copilot. 20 people survived. Ronnie's brother Johnny took over vocals. The plane ran out of fuel! Ronnie did not have his seat belt on and was sleeping at the time of the accident.
Welcome to the South y’all!! We love you and our happy for y’all to enjoy part of our culture so much. I promise y’all we aren’t the kind of people the news says we are. We love EVERYONE as long as you treat people with respect and we do the same!!!!! Love y’all! God Bless!
Nice reaction, could tell you some stories about the band, both before and after the tragic plane crash. Wonderful group. Fine humans. The crash took more then just members, supporting artists, and manager, but also took part of the Soul of the 70's away from us. Lets just say, that this is The Best of Times, Music, and Culture, as it demonstrated what Magic truly was in music to make people feel LOVE. GODBless!
Just came across your channel and I quickly subscribed!!!!! Love the vibe you two give out, especially with Lynyrd Skynyrd…. @@TheCoupleCrib Good Reaction but you have just missed one of the greatest LIVE performances EVER in The USA. "LIVE @ Oakland-1977" is the one that they should have recommended to you..
This song is involved on one of my favorite moments of my life. I had a Hungarian roommate in college named Gleb. He spoke very broken English, but loved American culture. Especially cars. At the time (2016) I had a 2004 c5 z06 corvette. We played this song for him the first time in our dorm and he said “the guitar solo makes me want to drive a million miles per hour in an American muscle car” 2 months later he let me drive his BMW m3 so I let him drive my corvette. We got onto the Merritt parkway and I played this song while he drove my car. During the solo he got up to a solid 120 before we got pulled over by Connecticut state troopers. He almost lost his student visa. If you see this, I miss you Gleb😂

It lives, it breathes, it's a flowing force of nature for all to enjoy.

The song, the musicians, the singing. Just wow!!! Saw them live in Houston. Go watch them on stage playing this song.
The greatest southern rock band ever, & the greatest southern rock song of all time! Thanks for your reaction.
This was my first time watching one of your reaction videos, and I loved it. I tell you, I have heard this song a thousand times by now and I still react to it the way you two just did. Keep up the reactions, I'll be watching and enjoying. Bonus points for the Lakers hoodie. haha.
World's best guitars song ever created. Glad you guys got to experience it's greatness.
A guitar solo with lyrics. And it's glorious.
Happy 50th anniversary to this song released 1973!!!!
Thank you for sharing this with me today 😊
Kids were dancing just like you guys during the live version of this song filmed back in the day. :D Awesome reaction!
Great reaction! Never seen y'all before, man she is BEAUTIFUL

This was a whole dance party! What a fun reaction!
Lynyrd Skynyrd is the very first band I saw in concert. June 6, 1974. In New Orleans. I was 16 yrs. old. I saw them many more times over the years.
I love Lynyrd Skynyrd they are a rock band I grew up with and this song is legendary!!
You guy's are awesome 👌 👏 what a great reaction 😄 I could feel the joy in your hearts 💕
Enjoyed watching this last night. The live version in Oakland on UA-cam is one of the best live performances from any band that I've ever seen.
Love your moves Carol 😊😊 it's so hard not to want to move with the music ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Welcome to the South y’all!! We love you and our happy for y’all to enjoy part of our culture so much. I promise y’all we aren’t the kind of people the news says we are. We love EVERYONE as long as you treat people with respect and we do the same!!!!! Love y’all! God Bless!
Guy with a man-bun digging Skynyrd for the first time on YT is so 21st century!
Dude has no rhythm
Nice reaction, could tell you some stories about the band, both before and after the tragic plane crash. Wonderful group. Fine humans. The crash took more then just members, supporting artists, and manager, but also took part of the Soul of the 70's away from us. Lets just say, that this is The Best of Times, Music, and Culture, as it demonstrated what Magic truly was in music to make people feel LOVE. GODBless!
This was definitely the short version of the song. There is about 5 to 6 more minutes of the original recording.
Watch Lynard Skynard live version at the Oakland Coliseum in 1977 of freebird
This was amazing watching you two on this song.
It's a classic ‼️
Just came across your channel and I quickly subscribed!!!!! Love the vibe you two give out, especially with Lynyrd Skynyrd…. One of my all time favorite bands… I see that Carol loves Eminem… I do too… Great music 🎶 will always bring people together, even all the way from Lebanon 🇱🇧!!!!!! Keep rocking guys 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸….
Oh Wow!!! Lynard Skynard is from the Jacksonville Florida area but recorded a lot in Muscle Shoals Alabama. Loved your reaction and thought Carroll was going to get up and dance at one point 😂😂. You guys are the best. Love you guys ❤️
We both love you too James 😃😃❤️❤️
@@TheCoupleCrib Good Reaction but you have just missed one of the greatest LIVE performances EVER in The USA.
"LIVE @ Oakland-1977" is the one that they should have recommended to you..
Do yourselves a favor and watch the live version. I got to see them live, at Fort Drum, NY. Incredible!
To add additional depth and texture to the group and to the song, a live version would be advised also.
My favorite band always listen to them since 2 years old I miss them
This song is involved on one of my favorite moments of my life.
Love that song. Early childhood memories
Thanks for sharing 👍
Enjoy your weekend everyone 🙃☺️
