How to draw and sketch indoor and outdoors scenes and urban sketching tutorials as a part of learning how to draw landscape and scenery.
VIDEO DESCRIPTION
In this video tutorial and I share some simple tips on how to draw people or the human figure in perspective or foreshortened: It provides drawing tips and a basic introduction to understanding foreshortening, an important aspect of linear perspective.
This can help set the foundation for drawing a house, room, building, person, superhero, body part, etc. in perspective
Music: Funky Suspense, by Bensound
Hands down best art teacher on youtube
+Octoboobs 😳 lol not sure I can live up to that
Alphonso Dunn Bro u really r a instrument of god . I got my own style of art. I was stuck in between anime n realistic . This gives me hope that I can learn realistic 3D art 🤘🏾🙏god bless lol
no really Alphonso i've been checking your vids for a few hours now and you are amazing (not only talented but you explain things well)
Sorry but Proko
@@quiensera9947 um no. The drawing data base is the best, but he's not really known :( you should check him out, he shows more into depth videos than proko. Proko basically shows demos and not full classes while the UA-camr I mentioned does. Like I said, you should really check him out.
When I watch your videos I can't help but think how badly Art was taught when I was at school 30 years ago. I can learn more from you in these 16 minutes than all the instruction or lack of it, I received in 4 years of art class at school. Just wish we had someone like you to teach us back then. Only now in my late 50's thanks to people like you and UA-cam, am I beginning to really learn, and now enjoy my sketching and watercolour. It kind of makes me sad at all that time lost. Art was not taken seriously back in 1960-70's U.K., they did not see any link between art and getting a job - Main stream school was all about filling the factories and offices with it's next generation of labour.
+Peter Sobocki Yea, a sad truth indeed. Just seize the moment you have now and enrich your life as much as possible with all youre learning. You have lots of life to live! 🙂
truer words were never spoken! i never took art in college but in high school it was all crafts rather than any art, with that and my parents seeing no value in art i was totally discouraged from doing what you did. but isn't it grand that we now can learn so much from so many in just a few minutes per day!
Peter Sobocki thank. Nice comment.good luck to you.
Peter Sobocki .school of today is no diffrent
Wow how times have changed. Now lots of people want to do art. Although it's still doesn't count as a great job, most just like to do it as a hobby or a second job. Even kids sell their arts!

Legit just hit me like a truck. I've been looking for countless videos on drawing in perspective. This. THIS is all I had to do. THANK YOU
"No one will ever get everything 100% right. ..Have fun" Thank you
🙂
Dude, you're such a great teacher. Your style of teaching is so simple and helpful.
here from that tiktok video
Me too🧍

same 😜
dude you're one of the most valuable channels on youtube. you are a great teacher and you do an excellent job demystifying everything, thank you for this.
In my search for a good UA-cam art teaching channel, I came across several great ones, but yours Alphonso, is simply the best! You're a 100% honest teacher. Some artists say something else than what they do, utilizing the same techniques you showed us, so that we would actually never learn unless we got ourselves premium access to their content. Thank you for patience, your time and your kind effort to help others manifest their creative ideas.
Thanks so much
dude your my favorite teacher
+I AM DOOM NOT GROOT : )
What are the odds you commented on another totally unrelated video I also watched... ATC with Sowall. An artist and a musician. It's great to have a creative mind isn't it???
+dreblaze1200 it's the best :)
I recently your videos during my time for "stay in place". They are without a doubt the best artistic tutorials on UA-cam. I have learned so much and really enjoy drawing again.
Thank you.
Your ability to simplify complicated concepts is just amazing. When I'm overwhelmed, I come back to your videos and feel grounded and hopeful again. Thanks!
What an utterly fantastic and helpful video. For now on when I watch your vids I'm taking notes and drawing along, because the knowledge you passed on in this video alone is making me understand things so much better! Thank you
+TheeOneWhoTalks Thanks so much
Thank you so much! This is such a helpful tutorial! I was just mindblown with the way you cut the squares in half when looking down and so being able to know where the body parts are! This helped me so much!
iv been struggling with this for months and you just made it so simple I feel stupid happy amazed honored and thrilled dude your like one of the best art teachers out there one of my biggest problems with drawing foreshortening was making something bigger in the front and then making it smaller in the back always thought I was messing up the proportion but now man your just awesome
man you're for sure a god, now I can draw at least the basics of perspective ily
Learnin a lot from this channel, very grateful for his knowledge can be distributed for free, so helpful
hi alphonso. your way of explaining the perspective of the human form is so amazing! i have been drawing for about 60 years and have never been able to draw the human form. i feel like now i get it and can play around with it till i can actually draw people! thanks so very much, bless you! :D
Thanks much. It feels good to read that you're now feeling more confident and more capable. Now that you feel this confidence, jus dont stop, and also be fair to yourself, dont be too hard and set to many high expectations. Baby steps : )
i have always been more inclined to respond to what i could do than to what i couldn't do when it came to art and i don't give up easily. it was probably about 25 years before i gave up on people, i just needed your help! ;)
Man this video is SO helpful! I've been watching your videos from France since a while now and those helped me a lot to improve myself. The way you talk about drawing and the way you explain it are so exciting. Everytime I watch your videos I feel like i need to draw for days. Thank you very much for the time you spend on those, I love what you do, please never stop
+Jérémy Domercq thanks so much. Your words help to inspire me to keep going : )
Great incite. I’ve been drawing for years and never thought about art in such an informative manner.
Keep up the good work!
I’m amazed every time I watch one of your videos. I can’t imagine the amount of time it took for you to be this good. I’m also impressed at how well you explain what you are doing. Thanks so much.
Very welcome
thank you for sharing. You really have a wonderful and effective way of explaining so it all makes sense. Youre an excellent teacher and I'm grateful that your out there for me.
Thank you for learning everything you did and passing it on .
gosh you are such a good teacher! Following you today, I did so much better. I cannot tell you enough how much I appreciate this. I became disabled almost 3 years ago so of course I had to give up my job - the best I ever had. Because of this I had to give up my art lessons for financial reasons. For all this time I haven't done anything but sleep because I am so limited. But I found you. You have no idea how much this helps me. Now I can start learning again. This is such a gift from you. You have no idea how this helps me. Thank you so very much. God bless.
Glad I could help
YOOOOO this is insane! This has to be the first time that I’ve found the exact UA-cam video that I needed at the exact time that I needed it. Definitely subscribing!
Of all the art channels on UA-cam, this is definitely the best. Your voice is so soothing, and your videos cut straight to the point and they've really helped me improve my sketching.
Thanks. More than anything, I'm glad youre getting help to improve
Never thought about doing it with this method. Gonna have to try it for sure.
Bloody Hell! This is full on epiphany of a video! I've never seen these concepts described so clearly before!
I've seen the box technique before, but never really understood how they formed the person inside it~ But it's so clear now! And the sketch of the elbows! It's so clean and simple while true to the bends in the arms!
Thank you! Just Thank You!
+AlexandeKnight : ) Glad I was able to help
My mind is blown by this simple principle! First video and I love it!
Thanks much : )
This tutorial has made the lightbulb above my head go off like I'm in an episode of Stranger Things. So many things in this video have been said that I have heard almost nowhere else that are amazing tips!
Gotta love all your tutorials. So clean and straight on point, with examples
thanks much : )
Best description of foreshortening i have ever seen. Thank you so much
I’m brand new here
But this lesson has been the best I have watched and I have been consuming art videos everyday for the past 18 months
Thank you so much for being able to explain perspective in a very easy and comprehensive way
8:45 Using the same grid work as one usually works to draw objects in perspective to draw figures is brilliant! So simple that it should be obvious yet I never thought of it before this video. Thanks man, I just drew my first reclining figure that didn't look like it was drawn by picasso.
Very comprehensive yet simple to understand! I understood everything that you were conveying! There's enough here to at least get my figures to look "believable". Big fan!
I've been struggling with perspective and foreshortening for years who knew I only needed 17 mins to gain insight for improvement 👏👏
Oh my goodness! Finally someone has explained how to show organic shapes in perspective! Thank you. All I have ever been able to find is how to show man-made shapes, such as a road or a building, in perspective, which doesn't compute for me when trying to draw organic shapes like trees, or birds. The way you have explained this makes sense to me, and it works for more than just human shapes.
The techniques really really helps & makes everything clear! Thank U very much.
Literally, favorite art teacher on UA-cam here. Every time I'm looking through the internet for tutorials, I'm like, nah, this one doens't seem right, maybe this tutorial itn't helpful to me or this is confusing... but then I go to Alphonso Dunn, search up perspective and watch his tutorial and blamo; it makes sense and it presented in an easy-to-understand, informative way. Love this channel!
Perspective is hard to do, you teach it very well.
This was everything I needed and more!! I was watching a couple of your other videos yesterday on anatomy, and I found myself wishing you had something on foreshortening.. BEHOLD!! WISH GRANTED!! Lol, thank you SO very much!!
Read your mind ; )
thank you. I have learned so much from you and your generosity in doing these videos for all of us!!!!
seus vídeos são os melhores,eu sou do brasil e você é uma grande inspiração para mim
This is probably one of the most insightful videos of art tips I have ever watched.
Man. I’ve looked @ a lot of tutorials in my day but i’ve never come across a teacher that simplifies a concept so eloquently! Big thumbs up boss! & thanks for these videos!
No worries : )
Brilliantly explained and beautifully drawn, already looking forward to watching more of your video tutorials. Thanks
Pure inspiration … thank you so much once again Mr. Dunn
Best art teacher on UA-cam Alphonso dunn and sycra learn a lot from this two channel
This video has helped me a lot. I never thought they'd be an art tutorial that helps me use perspectives in my art style 😭😭😭😭 oh thank God
Ohhhh! I finally get it! I've watched SO many tutorials on foreshortening, and I finally understood after watching this! And it was suddenly fun instead of frustrating, so double epiphany. I LOVE this channel - Alphonso, you're a great teacher!
Thanks much : )
Thank you so much your tutorials are so helpful and you really can explain it all greatly I’m so happy with my results❤
Brilliant! Simply brilliant! Never had perspective explained like this. Your figure drawing series inspires me. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
🙂🙂🙂🙏
I came from TikTokand you don't know how much this is going to help me
Thank you for this lesson. I have more understanding when I see it in action.
I learn more from watching you sketch a figure than from all of the drawing books I own combined. Thanks King Alphonso!
Thank you. Glad I can help : )
That cross on the square technique is such a fantastic tool! I never even thought about using that for perspective, but wow, so simple but so effective. Great vid!
🙂🙏
Man, your classes are awesome! I just love the way you make things more simple!! Thanks a lot for sharing!
+Laka Camargo Dias Thanks much : )
The best foreshortening video I had ever watched. Thank you for your video.
UA-cam has known no better art teacher 😱 you have taught me so much!
Thanks for the video Mr. Dunn!
You have by far the best UA-cam art tutorials and you're incredibly talented!
Thanks much : )
Great video! I like that you have a more technical and straightforward approach to art. I've been drawing since I was young, and it's nice to get a refresher on the basics sometimes! It's so neat how the movement in these sketches really came to life!
Thanks, and yes it definitely is
Thank you for the excellent tutorial!
This was easily the best video I’ve seen on this topic. It was delivered in digestible bites as it progressed, as the many small drawings made it very obvious what the speaker was trying to convey. Thank you!!!
Thanks, glad it helped
You are an extremely gifted teacher!!!! I never studied art, but always yearned to be able to Sketch and draw. Just last week I started watching your videos ,practicing and taking notes in the Sketch book I bought that is "just the right size for me" thanks to your advice. I came to a studio class with my Sketch book. There were professional artists there. I didn't feel daunted. They asked to see my book. The person running the studio wanted to copy it!!!! PS. I'm 73.
Thanks so much.
Wow!!! Thats inspiring! Wish I could see whats in it too lol
Thanks aphonso dunn, now i understand more about how to do perspective. I truly appreciate it.
Freaking King!!! You just blew my mind with how simplified you made everything! Amazing work, thank you so much 😊
Great help thanks.
By far,, one of the best explanations of foreshortening I have come across, on you tube. I salute you.
Thanks much
So clear and easy to follow! I love you man!!
Awesome thanks
Your videos are so insightful and very inspirational. Whenever I feel not so inspired I tend to flick through your channel and gain a hunger to do a bit of drawing. Thanks for sharing! And I love the book by the way. Very useful and clever
+jesse kidd thanks and thanks so much for supporting it
Wonderful lesson alphonso ! Thank you.
Mr. Dunn, you have taught me more about drawing than anyone. You are an excellent teacher.
Thanks much : )
Mind blown! Ridiculously good instructor
Bro this man the got I learned so much in 16 minutes now I started practice and so far it’s going great thank you bro
You definitely have a great talent for teaching. I'm hoping in a future video you will revisit one it two of your timelapse figure demonstrations in real-time so we can have a Draw-a-long. in fact, that would be a great theme for a whole playlist! Thanks again!
Awesome tutorial and insights, really helped me with my struggles in perspectives. That pencil sharpened with a blade or knife, I'm glad I'm not the only one who is still old school.
Definitely not
Thank you so much, you are the best!!
Love ur work!
Love the way you teach, Alphonso! Please go on!
+Joviana Marques : ) thanks
When it comes to drawing you're one of the best teachers I've found. Thanks for posting :D
+Steven Williams thanks much
You're great! Thank you so much!
Brilliant Alphonso, just brilliant
This is one of your best videos. I would have liked a slower version of any one of your bodies. Thanks, Ivan
Always useful !!!!! Thank you.
Great video! Thanks for sharing your talents.
This video really helped to bring together for me how perspective and especially foreshortening can be applied to my drawing. Nature drawing are my primary subjects and the understanding how foreshortening and perspective may be applied will be very useful on some of the more complicated subjects I deal with. I believe taking what you have taught will allow me to deal with depth of field concerns.
Glad it helps
Excellent work thank you Alphonso I have been taking drawing classes and foreshortening is challenging In figure classes great explanations ✏️👏🏻🎨
Thank you for posting these very useful instructions in drawing figures. 🇨🇦
Very welcome
Thanks ! I was just working on a picture that called for this lesson . Excellent !
: )
You are fulfilling your duty as a human being, passing the knowledge to the next generation.
Seriously only your videos teach me the most.
+The Mediocre Artist Fer AXAG : ) glad I can help
My art teacher recommended ur videos and i am NOT disappointed. That trapezium thing with midpoint u did? Istg, that made my whole LIFE easier. Thank you.
🙂🙏 glad it helped
The best video ever ... thank you
God damn, I wish you'd taught me art in college. High school was all about crafting, cutting, hatching, technical skills, which was amazing and necessary, then college was all about going back to basics, for TWO WHOLE YEARS! Color wheels, penmanship, cutting, blocking, composition...as if everything prior didn't exist. Almost no "art" or real drawing. IMO the two most important things for anyone that wants to draw and build on their skills in a real, usable, FUN marketable way are 1) perspective and 2) anatomy/poses. You nailed it man.
Excellent!!! Thank you!
Oh. My. Goodness. I know I'm a couple years late, but THIS IS SO HELPFUL! Thank you so much!
The best teacher ever
You are the best art teacher👍👍👍
You are a really good teacher
Gosh! Thank you so much. This video is amazing! You are so generous.
