@@sadi5430 its perspective lines so yeah kinda lol the guidelines are so the body can be accurate relative to perspective. you can practice figures without the guidelines but when you wanna start drawing them in a 3d space then this is the way to do it.
There's nothing more precious than actually seeing someone drawing an actual scene, with characters and stuff placed in it, using perspective. I really needed to see it. Thank you.
Me too!!! I actually find perspective fascinating the fact that as a species we've only relatively recently discovered linear perspective. When it's pointed out how simple it is it does beggar belief that it wasn't discovered sooner
I don't think I would have figured it out on my own, but yeah...you're so right. It is incredibly obvious once you learn it. I wonder just how much is a result of atelier apprenticeships that discouraged innovation. I really don't know....that's a complete guess
That's the beauty of practically everything David Finch does. His figure construction, shading, hatching. Is in principle extremely simple, however produces such beautiful results when done, masterfully.
I've learned more about perspective figure drawing in a 31:12 minutes video of yours than in 3 years at my hometown's comic school. Thank you David for putting this knowledge out for the noobs like me. I wish you have a very happy new year 2021!
David, you have been one of my favourite artists since Ascension. Thank you so much for putting in the effort to bring all of this information and secrets to us for free!
I'm reading Loomis' figure drawing for all it's worth right now as I bought it for myself as a Christmas gift. I was confused about dropping the measuring line down to draw figures on separate levels in perspective and as if by magic you post this video. Thanks so much David! I love your videos!!!!!
your perspective tutorials are exactly what i needed to make my backrounds and figures feel like the belong on the same page. no need to apoligize. its the process that is needed. explained and shown. thanks!
Great video. It really covers almost everything there is in relation to perspective, but I feel there is still space for a second part showing us how to draw action poses in perspective. That'd be like the advanced lesson on this topic.
As a self-taught artist sometimes I really struggle with proportions. But thanks to you, I'm learning so much, and it's becoming easier every day. THANK YOU.
I really wanted to practice anatomy first before perspective but after watching vids and practicing anatomy I learned that I needed to learn perspective first cause it will really help you know where to put the proportions of the body and make it easier to draw it in different angles.
You’re so cool. Thank you my friend. I watched this a couple years ago and understood at one level. Seeing it again now makes me internalize it at a deeper level. I appreciate you so much. I love your style of teaching.
You are an amazing teacher... I have been watching your tutorials since 2,3 weeks....And your classes are free too. Thanks for that👍. You are mesmorising the art lovers..... I am your fan, from Hyderabad, India (South).

I already knew perspectibe but not deeply, this is why im here to study these things because perspective drawing gives the biggest impact when it comes to drawing and designing characters. Most of the art videos yhat i watched, they usually mention perspective and thats why i will master this. Thankyou for this wonderful video it helped me a lot
Oh my.. Thanks for the lesson. I've been self teaching myself for a long time & learning from others but haven't found anyone who could break down perspectives for me. Thanks a bunch 👍👌
Such a great video. I got a little sad watching it though because this has been my missing link. If someone explained this to me twenty five years ago I feel as if I definitely would of become a comic book illustrator. Better late then never. Thanks so much for this gem. Priceless.
I'd totally forgotten that pelvis-trick ( so to speak ) at eight minutes. Thank you. It reminded me about another similar trick that wasn't mentioned. So let's assume we have a figure with a head that is X cm high and it is Y cm from the horizon. All other figures on the same plane have similar ratios between X and Y. So if a 2 cm head is 4 cm from the horizon ( meaning that the distance is twice as much as head height ), then the one cm head is 2 cm from the horizon ( also two times the head height ). 6 cm head would be 12 cm from the horizon and so on. And obviously if a 2 cm head if 6 cm from the horizon, 3 cm would be 9 cm away, as the ratio in this case is 3 to one.
I have always had trouble drawing figures in perspective. They always look off in size. Thanks for giving insight on how to approach sizing multiple characters on a page. this will take lots of practice.
This is one of the best and most useful videos on perspective I've ever seen! Can't wait to try these techniques out! Thank you again, Mr. Finch - you are an absolute legend!

Great video, as always. And you can still reference the horizon even if the figure isnt in front of it. Just compare how much space there is from the top of its head until the horizon line, and that can be used as your easy placement guide, just as if it was part of the figure itself.
It almost strains belief to think that an artist like Kim Jung Gi is doing all this in his head. I have to admit, since I am on a computer, I would more than likely "cheat" and use 3D figures to setup perspective in a scene. It's great to see how this can be done in the analog world.
