My passion for drawing is like a flip-flop, i sometimes becomes so immerse in listening and watching videos, but before the advent of internet in the Phillipines, i rely mostly from drawing and painting books, it started in 1975 during my high schools years, when i came across with my fellow classmates and schoolmates who were already good at it, they inspired me then . Unfortunately i was not focus on any skill, that's why my mind wandered from one trade to another. Times just flew very fast from age 14, im now 61 years old with no progress whatsoever being a jack of all trades but master of none. My desire suddenly was revived a few weeks ago and started looking for the old materials and tools that we already had, to start all over again, actually my daughter has enrolled in a short art course and has done a number of drawings and paintings to get ahead over me by a a lot of stride. Just recently ive ordered some art materials to kick off my long lost desire in this art. Ive actually watched you a few years back before the pandemic and even copied your manequin approch, I forgot your name, then just search again here , voila i rediscovered you once again and thank you for refreshing me. Good luck to your channel.

I have a masters degree in studio art and have never had any interest in drawing from the imagination - only from life - but I am very glad I watched this. Actually I have watched it repeatedly. I believe it is helping me to draw better from life because it helps me better see the forms in life and remember them from the moment I look up at them to the moment I look down at my paper. Also, knowing what I am looking for and what to expect helps me better see where the particular model is like and differs from my memorized shapes, and helps me to more efficiently get on paper what I am looking at. Thanks, Mr. Dunn!

Another thing about foreshortening that's important to think of is the point of reference.
if you're viewing a foreshortened object from a distant POV, all parts will appear to be proportionately sound. However, the closer you get to said object, the larger the outermost part will appear, relative to the rest.
So if you put your hand on your face, it'll appear larger, in comparison to whatever's behind it. When you extend your hand further away from your face, it appears to shrink.
It seems intuitive once you acknowledge it, but believe me, it is something a lot of beginners fail to understand.

Hey man, thanks for this series. It was starting to drive me a little nuts that I had made such progress with the loomis and Reilly Method; but was still struggling to see the simple mannequin. I see now I was making it more complicated than it needed to be. Honestly if I could do it over again; I would probably study this series, your portrait series, and loomis first; and put off the other figure drawing methods that seemed to muddy my progress a tad. But we all learn differently, and I believe that being able to recognize and admit the things you still don’t understand becomes more important but also more difficult as we advance through skills. But that is just my humble opinion.
Thanks again for what you do,
    Charles L

I ve been struggling on Human figures and gesture for 45 days now, i ve watched countless tutorials, bought books ( which i dont regret) and still catch the grisp of how to practice without reference.
The problem was that no one teaches (or no one i ve watched or read about ) basic methods that you can use to map out the things you learn from anatomy and gesture.
So i went on and tried every step you showed, and FINALLY everything involving the human figure made sense AND it s simple enough to fill sketchbooks with it... Thank you so much, you ve broken my biggest creative blockade yet and i ll definetly check out your book !

Alphonso I can't thank you enough for taking the time and effort to make this video. I'm trying to grow my drawing skill and I found this video SO helpful. The Way you explained and articulated was so easy to follow and to understand. I took a drawing class in college but the teacher was completely the opposite with no desire to be there. I learned very little from that one expensive class. I learned a lot from your video in just under 1 hour. Thank you so much. I wish you all the success in the world!

The proportion breakdown was a tremendous help to me. I would draw mannequins before and would just wing it until it looked right. Now I'm able to get every mannequin to be consistent.
    Really appreciate the info!

Honestly, I have watched a lot of videos explaining the same thing with 100% diff. ways, but you are the best teacher who explains in a simple way without making us feel that this is a real complicated thing.
I do have a background on drawing a mannequin, but what you shared with everyone, showed how knowledgeable you are other than everyone.
    Many thanks to you!!

ah, oops, I made a small mistake there but that's OK, it turned into a masterpiece because I looked at it."
