I also want to mention that I don’t wish that anyone should ever be scammed if they genuinely felt that the case was real after I had walked away from that deal. I just think sports players on that side of the trading card hobby jumped into Pokémon cause of the hype and did not take the time to acknowledge the obvious concerns and cautions they should have been looking for. And cause of the negligence of their research and consideration of the buyers credibility, lots of money may have been wasted at others expense.
And if it’s legit they’re gonna say “haha see they were just hating” … but no I wasn’t hating I had concerns and they are just finally doing what a real collector should have done before … it should have always been opened to verify. You still have the most valuable collectible of Pokémon in the world with the lid of that case half opened. And it’s sad to see them bully you for their research. The cockiness of how much money they have and putting you down isn’t welcomed in the Pokémon community. No matter how much he disagrees with opinions .

Another HUGE red flag is no collector sells something collectible for $70k that they know would be worth hundreds of thousands or even millions. Its like here have this Babe Ruth collectors baseball card for $2k thats worth $100k. It just doesnt make sense financially.

You have every right to give your opinion on this box, the authentication process, and the companies involved with it. It is NOT defamation in a legal sense, so don't fall for their scare tactic.

For any of this to be defamation, they would have to prove that he knows what he is saying is a lie. Speculation and comparing evidence to make judgements that you fully admit are a hobby person's judgement fully falls within the legal realm. Pointing out that a suspect package with a bunch of inconsistencies HAS a bunch of inconsistencies isn't defamation or slander.
I'm kind of glad logan got it. Mainly because he is the type of guy to open something like that. And if it does turn out to be fake all hell is going to break loose, and I cant wait to see it all happen.

It's a lose lose situation. If they open it and it's real it would be a shame to have opened the last sealed case most probably in the world. But if they don't open it you can't be sure if it's even real

@@tsppm - That would be the smartest option for Paul -- and the worst-case scenario for anyone else. BBCE is fucked/loses its reputation, and everyone along the chain may be legally culpable.
If they know where it was printed and the printer certainly didn't just print Pokemon. They could probably verify unopened basketball, football, or whatever was printed at that factory. Maybe they used a bunch of different packing materials / printers but the point is they should have a partial match with something else in existence and this doesn't add up in my opinion. There should be a few partial unopened boxes in existence and I hope someone comes forward as it would clear it up and potentially boost the value of their own set.
The fact that Jason is involved and pokebutler just makes this whole thing comical at this point

This story has consumed my entire Sunday. All the videos (various channels), IG posts (comments), and tremendous analysis just adds to the complexity but is a good (yet expensive) example for more transparency and initial skepticism that should happen in the hobby.
I got recommended this channel because of your coverage of The Box, and I've really enjoyed binging so far. As someone who knows nothing about pokemon cards, it's really cool to learn more about the things collectors need to watch out for from someone who's clearly done and showing their research.

Not sure if you'll still read these comments, but the main part that I'm seeing (worked with labelprinters) is that you're correct about the aging, but primarely, the font that is used on these so-called 1st edition box is 'way to new'. The font's back in the day (20+ years ago) are way more oldish. The 901 for example, if you compare the fonts like you did, the '9' is a very newly like font. If you check the old boxes from the other video (Met7?) it's an older looking '9', including the label. These labels/numbers on the (fake-)box are done with fonts from the last 10 years. If it's possible to correctly find the font (which should be do-able with current tech), you'll probably find out that the font that has been used on the label wasn't there yet in the year that the label was (supposably) printed.
Great work again Rattle! Don't let them scare you: you made your research crystal clear and public, it's legit, that's investigation, not defamation. And the reaction of the cardkahuna is just hilarious: "I'm rich" - so that means he's right or what? And then talks about lawsuits to threaten you - that stuff makes me angry...

One thing that I find "interesting" is this: the person who fabricated this fake is heavily invested in it. They made big money. I suspect they watch your videos. They've watched this video. They're here "with us".

In case anyones wondering how I did this. Since the boxes as rattle pointed out are the same size. I was able to resize two similar facing images and just resized corner to corner. At least to my best ability as the ebay one is very… misshapen. Nice video rattle!

Great video as always rattle! Keep it up. Best Pokemon channel I've found down the rabbit hole. Honestly love the detective work and educating the newer collectors hell everyone for that matter. Once I see a new post I don't hesitate to click and watch, first out of all the channels, but I always take it with a grain of salt. And get others opinions. Basic trainer, a guest on poke knowledge, believes it's legit and made some good arguments. Maybe you can interview him and debate both sides sometime. Just an idea. But after all the info out there as of now I don't think it's legit.

I worked in shipping for a while and the boxes and labels all stay same . I noticed the stamp on the box is different as well corrugated card bord check the othe official stamp on other side the dimensions would be stamped same as well they come in big batch could only see the 1 stamp from my view keep up good information about this sale it does help all understand what could happen only opinion 😉

Never did I think when uploading that video that it would be used someday to help authenticate a potential fake/scam lol all jokes aside I really hope when it’s opened they do more than just peek in and see 1st Ed boxes and call it a day…we all know empty boxes were sold on eBay for years it wouldn’t be impossible to reseal 3 and put them on top….or even 6 over time. They must open a box/pack!

Just came across these vids because of the recent chatter across the Poketubes and I live literally 1 minute from that gathering ground place...no longer exists, and is instead a DC for a local appliance shop. However, the sign was up through just a few weeks ago, so maybe they saw what was coming and got outta dodge? Wild stuff

I agree this case is very shady. The label itself should have some degree of fading given its age, but in that case bought by Logan Paul, the ink was still dark as if it was freshly printed.

Anyway, thats all irrelevant, but this entire situation is hilarious. They're mad at you for doing legitimate research meanwhile they represent exactly whats wrong with the world today. No substance or thought, gaslighting and attacking you for having competence and intelligence. Competence in this world is self-sacrifice and immorality and unintelligence are lauded by the masses. The most damning evidence is the same batch number on the box. Those numbers change with every run.
Holy I live in STL and drove by the Gathering Ground and one point when I used to play MTG and it was just a sketchy warehouse with just a sign in the back so me and my buddy said it looked like a place we would get stabbed at and left kind of funny to see it come up here.

I think the card buying and selling community needs to adopt some things from other similar concepts. Art has a thing called provenance which is the history of ownership and if there is a red flag most places automatically reject the piece. Woulda saved everyone some time if they were familiar with the idea.
At least use the red flags as a reason to check the contents. Worst possible provenance paired with the highest desire to keep it as sealed as possible. Even adding another seal to it...
I don't know what the hell it is with all these shady sellers who can't even speak proper English. Anyone who threatens to sue you for "definition" probably doesn't know the first thing about how to handle a lawsuit -- and if he did, he'd know that all this would come out in discovery.
BBCE should have opened the box and checked it all and just resealed it with their seals. I know they do that with opened baseball boxes with packs. Like an opened hobby box for example. Definitely going to change the game of grading which is starting to become saturated as far as single cards.

Just for info: the STOP tape on the cases of Harry Potter TCG Wizards of the Coast also have the "Sealed" and the point in the end.
Plus the measures on the cases are in the same manner as the confirmed real one you shown.
Its not Pokemon product but still its WOTC cases from the early 2000s

Surely theres gotta be someone, somewhere, that worked in the factories where these cases were made and shipped from. Theres gotta be multiple people out there that could answer all the questions there are about this sealed case. It's got to be possible to authenticate without opening somehow. Because like almost everything is possible now a days.
There wouldn't have been exact records kept and you can't expect someone to remember minute details on a shipping label, stop tape, etc... from 23 years ago.

Just want to add some information surrounding Micka aka PokeButler.
This is going back 8 years or so , but me , him and another collector in the U.K. were all nearly scammed by a seller in Belgium. We were all trying to purchase 1st Ed base set boxes from this seller.
This was before the insta community as it is now , before all the poke “ experts “. These may have been the first counterfeit 1st Ed base boxes.
So Micka did buy multiple boxes from this guy , and “ lost “ thousands once he realised they were fake. The seller had over 6-7 of these for sale.
It was only years later that I realised he was also a scammer , and resealed individual Base 1st Ed packs. This is common knowledge now.
Would I be surprised if this LP case contained those fake 1st edition base boxes? Yes and no. It was many years ago.
But if Micka is somehow involved in it’s origins , I’d be suspicious to say the least.

I know some OG E4 members have access to old wotc employees, it would be great to hear if they were using multiple box manufacturers and multiple thermal printers and multiple type of stamp fonts.

If you take everything into consideration and use a mathmatical approach it’s much more likely to be counterfeit than real. I’d love to hear some facts from the opposition other than, “ no way fuck you I know it’s real” it would be really nice to have some explanation of how it was identified as authentic, what facts were used to determine that?

I am hoping this product is real for all involved but either way a lot of this could have been avoided with people not overstating the value and or authenticity of an item. There is an epidemic of people pretending to know more than I think they actually know for clout. (And I ain't referring to rattle:P) Personally I have no idea if this is a real case.
Truth I really hope this was real for the person who bought it… But at the same time for all the attention this is garnering it’s actually giving bad attention by not opening it for all to see to prove it was legit. It’s a little sus.

From what rattle has researched the box is suspicious. It could be real and they just happened to have used different tape and print label for this box for whatever reason, nothing is always made consistent. Only way is to open the box, and maybe a booster box to confirm

Even the corners of the labels are different. That’s crazy. One has a wide degree curve and the other has a smaller degree curve, sharper corner. That’s crazy!!!
