We need videos and stories just like this about all the various controversies, legends and history of sports cards. This was really well done.
I loved it.
It’s not like there is a whole lot of it.
This guy gonna get on the history channel one day. Also, we just started making card videos if anyone wants to check it out!
I agree it was so well done!
I find it crazy that these cards could have ended up anywhere in the world and they both were in the same room
LOL in Dallas of all places.
My friend works at panini in Dallas he say sometimes they throw cards “away” which they don’t the back door the cards to sellers. Also that they sell hobby boxes for cheaper to shops
So grateful you went to Dallas and came upon this story. Excellent work!!!
This 100% Paid Advertisement by Ebay- PSA, BCG, and all the others. There is NO MUCH FRAUD THAT EBAY AND MOST ALL OF THE GRADING COMPNIES WILL FACE CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS
This is old news in the hobby
Some people are still selling the auto pin on ebay
@@Johnsblackliver it really is
“Viewer Descretion Advised”😂😂😂, when that came on the screen I laughed out loud
My brother and his wife stole my entire collection sold em bought 2 houses & tons of other stuff who can help me live in small town & no help
Really wanted to see Jeff offer to buy them out cause he has the money and know how to make a profit. Those cards will be much more valuable guaranteed
They should team up and sell them at auction as a pair, then split the money and fees.
Exactly
thats what the music was supposed to make us think was going to happen the whole time even bud in the cubs hat seemed dissapointed at the end
This reminds me of back in the mid 90s, some guy collected all the 95-96 Topps Finest Gold cards of Jaromir Jagr. He ended up with more than the print run Topps announced.
Of course he did they are always making more than they say they are
I saw both of these cards and dealers on Saturday. Amazing.
I like how these videos are getting stepped up visually and man what a story. Awesome job dude.
He always has, my husband and I have been subs since he had a very few and have grown with him.. We had just started about 6 months before and almost feel like we know him... absolutely wish him the best, and with his I’m sure connections he could’ve probably not brought this to light somehow I mean this isn’t good for cards right now at all, that’s truly honorable to me
Geoff: the 60-Minutes of sports card events. This is so very well done and a great investigative report. Next level stuff.
Amazing Story!! Very well covered from multiple angles and perspectives.
News & Stories like this need to be shared, very helpful for the hobby, collectors & investors. Bravo
Ken runs a great shop in Loveland, Colorado! He’s a good dude and I hope this turns out to be something big for him!

That’s crazy! I’m in Castle Rock. I’ll have to drive up there!
@@arshanaidun1663 Why is that Arshan? Do you have any facts, or experiences to back up your claim?
@@sportscardkelly Have you been to Ken’s shop in Loveland?
This was really well done. I don’t even invest in the hobby but am glued to this channel!
Awesome Video Geoff and company! Keep killing it!!
Can vouch for both the dudes in this video especially henry who’s a good friend, incredible story and incredibly interesting to see what happens next!
Love this!! Combines my love of cards with my love of mystery/crime vids!! Keep up the great content!
The guy from beginning with his face blocked out is definitely Jeromy Murray from Beckett grading. Lol
Great Job with this stories !! Keep up the good work !!
0:52 Nice shot of the guy grabbing his dumplings. Editor of the Year Award Nominee here lol
A similar issue just happened a few months ago with 91 serial numbered cards on Topps Project 70. The DJ SKee card to Kirby Pucket had a companion card. (Companion cards are usually distributed at random to anyone who purchases an artist card via mail.) For some reason DJ Skee wanted to hand out cards in person at a stadium and he did. He handed out 91 serial numbered companion cards. Topps reprinted the same 91 serial numbered chase cards and mailed them out. When Topps caught the mistake they sent everyone who received a chase card by mail an offer for $100 store credit if they returned the card. The chase card is worth much more on the secondary market. I doubt very many people opted to return the chase cards. Now there an unknown number of duplicate serial numbered chase cards out in the wild.
Law and order but for cardboard in plastic
I love this episode!
This reminds me of Miles Bridges' auto on LaMelo Ball's cards 😂
Later that night, after making a generous offer, Geoff left with both cards lol!!!
I tried! :)
Haha
@@SportsCardInvestor just curious but what prices were thrown out there?
@@SportsCardInvestor The fact that they didn't accept tells you pretty much all you need to know about whether they thought the mistake made their cards more or less valuable.
@@barryweyandt2682 Yes but with both guys acting upset Panini is about to offer far more then the cards current value to save face. Now are cards really what they say they are? How often are 2 guys in the same room with the same card. That in itself is a story alone.
I am not surprised. I got TWO Lonzo Ball 2017 Flawless Collegiate 1/10 RCs and BOTH looks identical the same...!!!
This happened numerous times you know it did because panini doesn't care!!! panini is just out to get money!!! They've been doing their best to ruin the sports card market since they started producing cards
What an awesome episode and incredible story!! Channel is getting better and better. Congrats.
Take notes Fanatics!!!!!
right
Panini is not trustworthy that’s why i am glad Fanatics is taking over. Panini has a Gabriel davis rookie patch auto , the patch is from Gasparilla bowl. As a Ucf alum/fan I knew right away that card was a red flag because Davis didn’t play in Gasparilla bowl. Panini guaranteed the patch was game worn however that’s a lie.
Great video, do one on the fake Luka rookie autos next! That was brushed under the rug, especially after the guy paid 4.4 million for one
Great video. I enjoy the stories and the direction the content is going on your channel. The videos really make me enjoy the hobby more. Keep up the good work.
Been looking forward to this one!
Great interview and great story telling! Thank you for this video
You should do more or these mini-docs. Cool to hear this story and others like this
I agree, we all can look up prices and what not. But its the stories, histories and legends that draw us all towards collecting.
Both are listed on ebay. The auto pen one is up for 25k and the stickered one is up for 21.5k
MY BOY KEN!!! Ken is the walking figure of how a card shop should be ran he has made a big impact on this community!! If you know you know northern Colorado has no shops to go in and really talk about the hobby well at Ken's you can!! Man love his place and everything they do for our community keep up the good work and if your ever in Colorado go to no limit in Loveland!!!
Please PLEASE do more videos like this. This was fantastic! 😲👏
My man's Geoffe is starting to up the game...forget UA-cam...soon will have a tv show about cards! Get us to primetime Geoff and make cards even more valuable for us 😈
Waiting for follow up story.. this is awesome. I hope they develop a great friendship and have an even greater story to tell in the future.
This is like CSI for sports cards! Great stuff!
Another great video brotha! 🔥🔥
I’m confused. So did Panini make 2 of the same cards? If so, couldn’t this be a lawsuit against Panini? Also, is Dak Prescott at fault for not actually signing the cards and having a machine sign? If this is the case, then we shouldn’t waste our money on such expensive cards.
Well done video!! I love exposing controversy and forcing athletes to get there s**t together and card companies to be more diligent!!
Awesome to hear this story. although the auto pin may not be a real signature, I still think it holds value or even goes up in value over the next couple of years. Just the whole backstory of the card + the rarity of it. Imagine this happend when Jordan was a rookie or someone of that stature. The card would be worth hundreds of thousands today. I also think that if they do figure out that it’s not the real signature, that they still slab it and mark it as the infamous dak controversy card. Would be really cool to see that in the market
This channel is doing amazing things for the card community!
That Ken from my LCS in Loveland Colorado. I sold him a Jordan Rookie in Jan. Great guy and great shop. Had not heard about this until I saw this video.
I really thought he was gonna make them an offer to buy both. They're easily worth more because the controversy behind them and honestly the fake auto card could technically be a 1/1 making it extremely valuable when paired with the real auto
But if its not real how could it be valuable
I thought he was going to as well with how he was talking at the end.
I thought so too, but he knows it would destroy his credibility by both promoting this story while also owning the pair of cards in question.
How do u know the difference???
Was it a mistake????
Your video and edit quality is top notch. Appreciate the knowledge. 👍🏼
The whole time, I was thinking what Geoff was thinking... If I had one of those, I'd be trying to buy the other guy out and own the pair.
I owned the sgc one for a bit. It’s definitely not autopen. The person I purchased it from had dak sign it in person.
I legit thought Geoff was about to make an offer for both cards at the end
I dont understand why he didn't make an offer on both cards. Separately there will always be concern if you are buying the real one or not. But as a pair it is legendary.
because he prob wouldnt offer what panini will surely offer the no sticker guy.
@@jasedodge7891 And for that reason alone, is why I would *NEVER* sell the non-stickered card to Panini. Panini will destroy the card to solve a problem; thus making said card exponentially more valuable than even the legit one.
I did make an offer, but they wanted a little more than I was willing to go to.
Awesome expose’ man, appreciate the info
I didn’t know if it was a joke when I saw the guys face blurred or not at first. But so gross they used auto pen. Such a scam. Dak and whoever should get charged with fraud.
There must be more checks & balances between card manufacturers & grading companies.
Much credibility & $$$ are at stake.
Who knows what else exists out there? Excellent video
Thank you Geoff Columbo!
Quality control..... I thought our host was going to spring a 1.5 million dollar offer for each.....
Wow this absolutely amazing and had my mind going nuts. Thanks for this video as always
Yall know Luka had his mom sign all his RC autos right?
This video needs a "To Be Continued" as well...we need closure as collectors! Panini needs to discuss this matter in public!
Now an auto-pen scandal and duplicate #’d parallels. Awful look for the manufacturer.
Tbh this was one of my biggest concerns when I first learned about serial numbered cards.
I thought at the end you were gonna buy both cards lol
Same. I was expecting him to make them both an offer.
That is wild man. I hope some day we don’t find out that we been getting tricked by these companies 10 to 20 years from now.
Buy stock in topps
@@brethitchcock5885 why? If you don’t mind sharing..
@@schuylersavage276 topps probably being bought by fanatics. I would assume that's the play here.
It wouldn’t be the first time. Upper deck was playing games with their Ken Griffey jr cards
This is not the first time this has happened. Topps also had similar issues with refractors, xfractors, superfractors etc in baseball from 2006-2010 a lot traveled out the back door some with serial # others without.
The card companies are at the mercy of card manufacturers that are subcontracted to manufacturer cards. Cards have for years seen this issue with uncut sheets, proofs etc when $$$ are involved and people see an opportunity to exploit cards that were meant to be destroyed they feel
“ahhh no harm these were going to the garbage anyways let me make a few $$$ on these no one will know.”
This again is not the first time or the last time it will happen I own at least 500 + refractors that should have never seen the light of day but they sit in my hoard of refractors I collect.
So unless you can watch from begging to end of manufacturing and that’s just not possible we’re all left with buyer beware when your paying big money 💰 for a card you thought was truly limited.
In the immortal words of Chris Farley if you want me to put a guaranteed sticker on is each sticker on a Box of shit I will lol
Now this is content!
I had a Triston McKenzie 2019 Bowman "Ready for the Show" in red. Looking on Ebay found the exact serial numbered card. Was it Asia? Scam? Who would scam a $50 card? Alot of people will have some empty pockets when they go to sell these fakes.
Fantastic job being on top of this story with a high quality video Geoff.
That "antique rode show vibe" tho..
Epic story
I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for the great content. I've been getting into this hobby more and more in great thanks to you. I appreciate it alot.
we deserve a follow up to this story
Lol dude scratching his nuts hard at the beginning of the video 😂 0:51
Did u buy them.... they selling ???? What a great video !!!
You know Geoff tried to make an offer to each of them 🤣
You need to be on ESPN I’d watch everyday again
The background music made me feel like I was watching a scary movie
I wondered what was going on with this. Thank you.
Remember autopens are not signatures. They are made by a machine. You don't "have" their signature, you have a picture of what their signature looked like on a given day. Don't pay more than one dollar for it. Great video. Thanks!
And to think that Dak Prescott was one of the few Cowboys that I actually liked, and I'm an Eagles fan.
As much as I relentlessly bang on Geoff yet defend him to others, this is his best SCI video to date.
Great background music as well, I was waiting for Theon to start running in the background towards the Night King with his spear again.
Bravo fantastic vidéo Geoff!
You know his agent handled all of this, right?
Fleer/Skybox did this also back in the day with all their extra patches jersey that were numbered that they had in their inventory and liquidated all of it before they were done doing cards. All card companies make duplicates of the same cards including 1/1's so on and so forth as replacements. Believe me they do make it outside the factories and hit the secondary market. I opened a case of Topps in The early 200's when they started inserting 1/1 printing plates and I got 2 of the Same Vladimir Guerrero Sr's. I called Topps and they stated they made a mistake and some of their replacement cards got out. Even a metal printing plate is duplicated.
What if these duplications of serial numbered cards are uncovered in more instances ? A one off instance creates an incredible story. More instances will throw huge doubts about quality control and damage the hobby irreparably.
i been saying i see more fraud coming out like people forgot psa buys trimmed cards and put 10 on them working with auction house. also panini puts out a lot of cards the back say auto with no auto on them.
@@matteogottie6772 A card that says "auto" but is missing the auto isn't really fraud, that's just a mistake. Two numbered cards with the same number is much more difficult to call a mistake, imo. There's 0 reason that 2nd 5/xx card should have been released without some check in place to ensure the original had been destroyed before the new one ever left the Panini office.
If you took both cards to panini what would the the reaction and would they assist with replacing one of them with a similar valued card
Panini making content for Geoff hahaha. I honestly think these cards will be worth more due to the story behind them. Yes incredible story. The pair would be amazing together on a collection.
Any time I get a rookie auto or number card that people don't really know of, I Google the. And to try and buy as many as I can for a a dollar or 2 and see doubles of my cards... literally all the time.
This was a huge story in the hobby his rookie year, only for the Luka auto controversy to hit a couple years later. It’s going to continue to happen if reps don’t sit with the athletes when they sign
Bet Lamelo will be this year's once released
Love it great vlog!
Great video man I liked it. I'd like to see how many others of this card is out there graded and stuff. Panini prob just put 20 cards out there instead of throwing them away.
I know the Value of those cards will surely Go way Up.
Love the story u put together ❤ bro
Lol, I thought Geoff was about to buy those cards at the end
I purchased 2 Dak Prescott rookie autos one being Championship Ticket 1/2 and Immaculate RPA 2/2 both sealed by panini but I cant find anything online regarding these cards numbered to 2.
Matt - graded card collector , he found something similar on Ebay and posted it, I think it could of been 1/1 having a dupe..
This story is crazy , a good follow up would be to ask the player how many cards he did sign. Definitely reckon Henry's card is the "more authentic " as his was probably meant to be destroyed.
Could it be that someone got there hands on one of the unsigned versions of the gold card and ended up getting dak to sign it in person. That would make the most sense to me.
@@misterbaer wow really? That’s pretty crazy that’s probably exactly what happened. Does that make the card more expensive or less lol. Thanks for the comment by the way!
This is even worse than the Macdonald’s monopoly game scam. Just awful
This is just Greatttt..🔥🔥
I know ken he owns a shop In Colorado I go there all the time he’s a super nice guy cool to see him on your show
The same guy grabbing his box 😂
At the 2 minute mark. Had to pause to leave a comment. This is amazing!!
They both took this news far better then I would have. Panini really owes them a definite explanation
This is why I will never waste my money on cards ever again, The 80's was bad enough with over production. I wasted my hard earned money and the stuff is garbage. Throw PSA in there and what they charge to grade a card and its a joke and card collecting was never to be like it is today. It's all about the cash for these card companies. HUGE scam
