    Read the instructions before buying: YES!! An example would be if the frame says a seat clamp needs to be torqued to 4-6nm but the seat clamp and/or seatpost specifies a max of 3nm. That is an incompatibility right there.

    Last comment from me, I am following much of your advice and have bought several of the same components that you have. The easton EC90SL cranks and chain ring, KMC gold chain, Hope rotors (blue). Spent $1500CAD more on my bike this fall in carbon upgrads and how now replaced everything on my bike except for the frame, fork and shifters... The sad part is I am a weight weinnie with all carbon components but still on my custom steel frame... Size 60 frame comes in at 9.36kg.... its a losing battle, but its fun to geek out.

    Thank you for the great saddle recommendation! I picked up the padded Berk Lupina based on your comments about it (debated the glossy unpadded version but you saying you still found the padded more comfortable convinced me). Just had a nice ride and it was really comfortable. Weight savings were substantial over my stock saddle but considering my rig, not significant overall. Comfort is more important to me right now until I get my butt into riding shape.

    :-) That was so nice again. I often have these hearts in front of my eyes when I made it back home with my bike and look down on it on my last meters. At home I say to myself or to the bike (I am not really sure to whom i speak) : Well done! .... the lighter or better parts are always something, I know my bike appreciates and it rewards me with fantastic experiences and reliability.... One thing i regret and took away from my reliable companion was the carbon saddle. After hours on rough stuff i sometimes felt some sharp pain. Not in my butt! :-/ In my bones, like a disc prolapse coming soon :-D . Back to the actual topic: I am looking forward to hear something about your feelings on the saddle. I know, Japan is well paved, maybe that helps with the carbonsaddle. Viele Grüße aus Norddeutschland!

    R2-bike is the best shop for weight weenies - where else can you sort by weight?
    Oh and are you sure you don't want to rotate the seat clamp 180°? With my tune Würger and other seat clamps it was always recommended to have the slit of the seattube on the same side as the slit in the clamp.

      About the seatpost clamp, yeah I thought about it but I figured I would put it the same way as the original clamp at it will protect the bolt from tire spray as well.. will see how it holds up, since it’s not crazy expensive even if it breaks it’s not the end of the world, from another comment it seems to be quite fragile piece of kit.

    LOL I ride a sub 24lb Windsor Wellington 2.0 7speed aluminum frame/steele fork road bike and do pretty well on it. I am looking at purchasing a new bike just because after about 3 seasons on it, i'm pretty much out growing it. Need more gears tbh. Also it's a bit too big for me but i made the proper adjustments to make it work. Another problem is it's hard getting different components for a 7 speed. I like changing thigs up here n there and it's very limited whats available.
    It would cost too much to buy rims, shifters/derailleurs cassette/cranks etc etc to upgrade to say 10 or 11 speed so i'm just going for a whole new bike in the propper size. Maybe try selling my other bikes. We shall see.

    It's kind of sickening that your gravel bike is lighter than my road bike... I'd be interested to know how much all this bike cost. 😂
    Oh and MY Gravel bike is 12kg... and I actually like it like that. It makes me appreciate and stronger on my road bike. 😂

    Thanks for the tip on the Kalloy stem! I have been looking for a budget light stem in a 31.8mm diameter. Trying to squeeze all the weight I can out of a fixed gear bike to get it down to below 9.07 kg. Any suggestion for budget weight weenie bars and saddles? Both my drop bars and saddle are 300 g each. It is just wrong lol.

    • @ridesofjapan
      @ridesofjapan  5 років тому

      David Adamus hard to find anything really light AND cheap when it come to bars and saddle. Nothing like the kalloy uno.
      Something like a selle italia slr with Ti rails would get you under 200g but still not super cheap though.

    Those bolts on your top tube that are just filling in the holes- you could replace with aluminum bolts.

    • @ridesofjapan
      @ridesofjapan  5 років тому +3

      They are aluminum bolts :)
      Also have nylon bolts to replace them with eventually.

    • @EditioCastigata
      @EditioCastigata 5 років тому +2

      @@ridesofjapan Toroughly clean the threads those nylon bolts will go in. Like with carbon fiber, there could be some quelling if it gets in contact with grease or not hardened threadlocker. (Q-tips and some heptane will do, or lesser alcohols.)

If I showed you the extent and $$ (Yen in your case :) for my sub 5kg Cervelo build you wouldn't feel guilty about all these pieces you are acquiring :) - I might just swap the Cervelo running gear to the Open.... • @ridesofjapan
      @ridesofjapan  4 роки тому

      Never had a stem that wasn’t stiff enough, so yeah, stiff enough for half anorectic climber like me ;)
      No slippage, bit of carbon paste and 3Nm.
      * I would not get any WW parts at all if stiffness was the top priority.
