Weight whale checking in. Just replaced all the mounting bolts on my steel bike with brass. Each weighs 0.1 grams heavier than the stock steel bolt. I think I’ll have to move on to even more marginal upgrades if I want to get the bike any heavier.
I only carry basics if I end up stuck it’s a phone call to her indoors. You can be a knight in shining armour in group rides with all that kit I suppose.
I have never understood this line of argument. Most people including myself do visit the bathroom before we ride. Also, what’s better, a rider of a set weight on a light bike or a heavier bike? The answer is obvious to me. 😁
I bought a titanium brake pad retention bolt for my DJ bike the other day for about £15, it probably saved me about the same weight as I gained using copper slip instead of normal grease. The important thing is it matches the other Ti bolts on my bike now 😉 Edit: You probably already knew this but that groove around the screwdriver bit is supposed to interface with the ball bearing or spring clip in non-magnetic bit holders, not that it matters if you only plan to use it with a magnetic holder.... I noticed you didn't include any master/quick-link pliers, do you just use the chain splitter if you need to remove your chain? I have some Wolftooth MLPs which are surprisingly light.
Correct! Yes only with the magnets for me. I use the quick link if the chain snaps as an easy way to fix it together. (So 2 links on 1 chain) or if for some reason the one on there fails? Putting them together is no problem and getting them apart is also possible with a bit of ingenuity and near by road furniture. 😂
Love the video, nice work! Have you considered swapping out the screws on the bike such that there is less variation in the number of heads needed? I'm thinking of doing that myself.
Have you used the ZTTO tool much, and how has it stood up to that use? I have it too but have my doubts about the design. I think that the red inner part of the tool should have a steel threaded insert for the driving bolt to engage. Would immediately add a bit of weight but I can't see the inner aluminum thread lasting long. The coarse thread that joins the tool is extremely sloppy with a small surface area of engagement. It needs better tolerances and would be stronger if it was a square profile thread. The collar is a pretty snug fit which is needed. Granted it's a cheap tool but as it is I don't feel like I can confidently rely on it not to break.
I think weight weeniesm only one of the sickness in cycling. There are people who are obsessed with bulkier aesthetic such as e-bike, MTB, or Gravel bikes. It’s just like slender or bulky people being idealised. Some girls think being heavy is bad and some may even wear bikini while being fat😂 There are so many macho men who brags their bulkiness! I think your minimal setup fits solo weekend warrior. That mini pump would make the group mates very impatient! I would carry three co2 canisters instead in group rides. TPU tube turned out to be not so reliable as replacement tube, especially if there is very small piece of glass left in tire that are very difficult to find in field condition. I would go with butyle tube instead. I chose Deda Zero 100 seatposts and handlebars instead of carbon because their stiffness and comfort makes them more practical and race focused. I am not replacing my aluminium Dura Ace cranks with carbon one. Weight saving is over advertised by industry, but in reality a cheesy lightweight bike would perform much worse than a performance optimised steel bike.
I think it’s taken them too long to finally admit that there is a problem. As for Brunei, who knows. We are normally the last to get anything so I wouldn’t hold your breath.
Reginald . Once again I find myself thinking back 1970’s when in an effort to lighten the bike we resorted to the art of Drillium . If you do attempt this be careful.
@@dinodaniel2237 I have seen brake handles on UA-cam with a lot of holes drilled in them! I think I would much prefer being able to be sure to brake, than loosing a few gram! Also carbon grips for a Brompton, being unable to brake if pressed hard (They flex). Finn. Denmark
Thanks, had a reply to an email query today. So they are still there. Ordered 2 pumps, the Floor for my Winter / Wet Bike and the Twist for my light Summer / Dry Bike 😎 Also ordered a few of the Chain Splitters from Ali Express - will make a great present for some friends 👍🏻. Lighter than my small Park Tool Splitter, that is around 77g.
H Reginald, hats all this heavy poly bags? Phone in with the money, tubes in one, rest in another? Wheres your chain whip and torque wrench and kitchen sink eh? More seriously, I've never broken a chain (not strong enough perhaps) so allen keys, pump and tubes are enough for me.
Weight actually effects more than just hills. I’d argue it’s the second most important factor next to comfort. 😁 A light bike feels lively and fun in the corners. It will accelerate faster than a heavier bike and it will be easier to slow down in an emergency as less weight. It’s also easier to carry and hang on my wall. 😂 And yes, going up hill especially short steep ones is a dream! 😍
@@reginaldscot165 accelerating faster is a given but most competent regular riders get up to speed and stay there. I’d also challenge you or any others to notice the difference if I clipped a hidden 100g weight to your bike. Plus a quick toilet break prior to a ride can town shed more mass. But I appreciate you said it was a bit of an illness/challenge for you.
I showed this video to my bike, it's jealous.
Ha ha! Ah but the important question is… are you? 😅

Brass? Really or are you pulling my leg? 😂
BRAVO! Its only when you admit that you have a problem that you can begin to find a cure😂
That’s so true. 👍🏻
You misseda trick there - "One tool to tool them all"...
I'll show myself out 😂
Please do. 😜

That’s true, however I don’t like bothering her and what if she’s shopping? 😂
Ok Reg,no doubt that you are talented in endeavours, but I must place you in the mad genius column,,, what frightening is that you may agree 😅
Oh I definitely have my fair share of madness for sure! 😂
Unless your body weight under control and optional all the time. Plus you've had had a dump before leaving home. It's all pointless!! 😂😂

I have several but sadly they hold air as like my latex. Some worse than others :(

It’s an emergency tool so I’m not expecting it to do the job often. However I have tested it and it really works. 🙂👍🏻
@@reginaldscot165 heavily edited my last comment - it's good to know it has worked without issue!
Get a mini smart phone for cycling. Doesn't take long to change the SIM card! Saves like 100g.
Cool! 🙂
Just leave the phone home, in case of emergency every driver/passerby has one.

"Weight reduction, bro!" 🤣🤣🤣
I try my best. 😌
Chopping down bits sounds like an awful lot of effort for 10g. Might be enough to get me to the gym even! 😅
It was totally worth it. 😎
What do you make of the Shimano crank situation? Will they send $75 to Brunei to inspect each one?

No way! Those guys cost like $200 an hour! Just imagine the weight savings I could make on the bike with that kind of extra investment? 🤔😅

@@reginaldscot165no not drilling the frame Drillium consisted of drilling the componentry , chainrings etc.

Are the iPump people still trading? I’ve tried twice to communicate with them with no response so far 🤔
They are. They don’t reply to IG messages for sure. But if you buy one they send you an email personally.

Cable ties…hmm…maybe I should include those in my tool kit.
You should, can fix everything from a computer mount to a broken spoke! 🙂👍🏻
@reginaldscot165
Isn't the extra 6mm redundant with the bit holder?
Unfortunately that hex key on the back of the tool is not a standard size, it’s just something the get an adjustable spanner on. 🙂
…. You could be saving the weight you’re getting grinding slots the tools by taking all of your kit out of the little tiny baggies it’s all in…
