I don't care one iota about getting my bike lighter. I just really enjoy your journey towards weighing nothing, and how it is presented. These are some of my fave videos for lightening the stress on my heart. Thanks!

I am definitely not a weight weenie. Everything I spec'd for my bike build was titanium. I did have to opt for a carbon fork but mostly my bike is all metal baby. And then I also went with Dura Ace Di2. My bike is under 19 pounds but I spent over $8K and let me say it gets the looks. I'm to old for KOM's but having one of the sweetest bikes on the tarmac is another way of getting gratification.

I got a 10 year old Look 555 ($550) from ebay with some heavy pretty heavy wheels, Mavic Aksium. It had those weird 10 speed 105 levers where the shift cables come out the side so I replaced them with a 10 speed Ultegra ($80) groupset with under bartape routing. Then I changed the Gatorskin tires it had with a pair of Bontrager Hard Case Lites ($40). Now I have a 17.9 lbs bike for $670.
That said I hardly ever take it out because I'm deathly afraid of getting passed by a teenager on a fat bike. Mitochondria aging is real people

Well...your example is not that unrealistic. I bought a Rose Pro SL Disc 105 two years ago. I was a complete road Bike newbie.
Now has lupina, darimo, ultegra/dura-ace di2, carbon wheels, bars, stem, and some other things on it. basically the only original part left is the, in comparision, quite heavy aluminium frame itself. but i really like the geometry and even the looks with all those bling components fitted to it. upgrades cost an insane amount of money compared to the original price. but hey, it rolls like a dream and i guess its the most custom and personal rose pro sl disc out there :) i also was able to build a gravelbike out of the leftover components (only needed to buy a frame and some small parts). cheers!

I semi weight weenied my bike. It is fun to tinker. I kept the cost reasonable. Currently my bike is at 6.8 kg. I am happy with it, but I will likely shave off another 200-300g for fun and tinkering.
    Also, your videos are awesome!

You know, I have been a weight weenie for many years now, and your disclaimers are spot on....if you want to climb well, there is a middle ground, which is the additional money required to drop 1lb, spend it on trainer and app that will make you a stronger rider. But the take away for me for today is that I need to get a throne-add-on that splashes some warm droplets up the ying yang. I think I will spend my next dollars there. Any suggestions ? Seat warmer optional.

For an operations research class I put together a linear program that makes recommendations for upgrades or training to maximize speed benefit subject to budget, time and fitness constraints. It even takes into account the differential upgrade value of aero vs. weight savings based on course parameters (i.e. how hilly it is). It's not perfect but I can share it if there's interest.

So the Rose with 105 is 2599 €. 2599€+4689$ is roughly 6900€. For 5899€ I can get a Rose X-LITE SIX DISC Dura Ace DI2 which comes in at 6.7 KG (+-5%, without pedals and cages but with deeper rims). That would leave me with a higher grade frameset with deeper rims and roughly 1000 € to spend. So maybe buying a different bike in the first place :D

According to Bike calc. @ 300w 70 Kg Rider 8085g bike up 10% grade for 5km should take::: 24min .17 sec..

Personally I’d always buy a frame set and put together parts to my linking... the reason for this video (which I seemingly failed in emphasizing) was just to show where you could save weight if you already had a mid-range bike. Not buying a new complete bike and upgrading right away.
You could argue buying a complete bike, selling the parts and put that towards the new upgrades would be more economic if you’re a good salesman.

Good video. I don't think that a disc brake 105 bike is 7.4kg. Sounds too good to be true. Probably over 8kg.
