i just love how weight weenies say they can’t remember the weight of some component but in fact they remember each one of them to a decimal!:)
weight weenies seem like really cool people to hang out with. probably really versatile.
@@charlesshaw2708 here, let me drill that component for you lol.
Lol so true
I love when they say they can't remember the price (but they got a great deal, of course) but their wallet most certainly remembers 😅
Mark is a man of exquisite taste, representing the defence force to the fullest!
that outro music is .... chef's kiss. You're too good at this
That opening soundtrack Torvig ! OMG it was so cool. What a mouth watering bike 🤤
Enjoyable video to watch. 50/34 and 11/28 for those climbs? What a beast!
Mark definitely knows what's what. Beautiful Ti bike, "pretty light wheels" and rides in a nice chunky Seiko dive watch.
Well spotted! I think in the bonus track it's a Submariner blinging as well...
Damn that bike is so stylish, I'm now with rim brakes defence force.
I just finished my 57 Litespeed Vortex build a couple months ago! Old 2004 ‘Mavic’ neutral service from the tour. Built it with some 10 speed duraace, and a handful of small carbon parts. 14.7 pounds!
big thumbs up for titanium bikes on rimbrakes !!
That intro logo was slightly amusing to me because just yesterday I got caught by a very heavy rain(has been raining for almost 2 weeks and tried to catch a fast one in between clouds) and in that blinding rain was thinking how lucky I was that I was on disk brakes.
My goodness, so light. Crazy. I am sure its a blast on the roads!
Love the opening sequence.
Your chum Mark has a very nice metal rim braked bike. Just watched the field build. :)
Love these videos, I spot an upload by Rides of Japan and stops everything to view.
Super high quality production and nice Titanium bike too.👍
Put my Ti-Bike Disc on the scale just this Friday evening and it clocked in at 8980gr.
Hope this beautiful setup can withstand Marks thighs. Great content as per usual!
that feeling of excitement when Mark puts out a new vid. you know its quality content!!!
What we have here is a delightfully fun viewing experience. Thanks fellas!
What a dream bike. I'll elect this the representative of the rim brake defense force any day.
Love to see gatorskins on such a bike
Major props for ti. The lightest bike I've ever held was my buddy's ti airborne. You can lift with only 2 fingers!
Mark, big up for Seiko Turtle!
If you've got kids (dependants) rim brake for dry conditions (excluding long descents) and disc brake for everything else (including long descents)......'my opinion'. My stepbrother Ti welds for Enigma bikes....awesome...
I used to have the T2, one of the nicest bikes I have ever owned. I upgraded to a T1SL (in the same size 200g lighter) but I still miss my T2. Perfect ride quality.
So good to see litespeed represented.
Wow, just a stunning location and a very cool bike!
Nice video! Always excited when I see a new upload!
Great production values, great audio. 👍
Thank you for your service Mark.
Beautiful bike. Ti is beautiful.
Love the videos, such elegance.
You have the best vids on youtube. Thank you.
I ride Ti too.
Sorry, I usually watch all the ads first (just for you 😉) but I was just too excited to watch your new video.
Will go back and watch them again for you 😉👍
Haha! cheers... but skip the ads mate, watching the video is what I appreciate the most 👍
Rides of Japan as usual, you are right.
That's a gorgeous bike!
Nice bike, shout out to Mark's wristwatch as well, Seiko Turtle if I'm not mistaken...gilt dial maybe? Nice
Correct. Srp775. I was going to get the 777 but wanted the SS bracelet
LOL that was awesome !! l d take this over carbon any day !! LONG LIVE METAL RIM BRAKE BIKES :)
Now we drooled about his bikes, so please cover his watches. They seem just as nice as the bikes!
I was about to comment the same thing. Been on the market for a durable, analog watch to accompany me on rides.
Love the intro. No Leica cameras to be seen. Maybe next video we can get some more drone and panorama scenes? Please!
No drones left
@@ridesofjapan What happened?
@@jochenkraus7016 Sold it... pain in the behind to take on bike rides... also, getting a bit overused no? 😉
@@ridesofjapan Ok. But not overused: I like the landscape in you videos, it looks like the Eifel in Germany with better roads ;-)
Ive been stockpiling rim brake bikes and wheels. Got a small warehouse full of them. Average market value price for a sub 7kg bike is under 1000USD at the moment in mint condition. All the surgeons etc want disc and aero lol.
True
Frack! You make me want to go pre-order the Cane Creek “El Tornado” rim brakes. Then, rebuild my 20 year old Ti Seven Axiom that I used to ride in those very hills you are in.
Don't understand why you haven't done it already ;)
DO IT 😱
Yes DO it.. I ride a Moots Compact SL with Obermayers and EE brakes.. 6.7kg only because it's AXS Red and I kept the seat post and stem Ti for looks.
Yeah, the dark side of titanium is that it will outlast you. I get older, she stays young. However, I stay younger keeping on top of tech and blinging her out. You’re channel helps fuel this addiction. El Tornado is pre-ordered. Hope my kids can accept my much bling titanium Secret mistress once she out lives me.
Love those paved switchbacks! Here in Georgia that would be all gravel.
Litespeed = elite-level beauty!
Pearl in the tsunami of bs!
Love it, well shot, nice rbbike 👌
Now we need to see a weightweenie steel bike with drum brakes and airless rubber tires.
does it count if has carbon fork?
#diskbrakedeathsquad here to infer that that the new Shimano dura ace groupset may be disk only.... 😉
Great video and top notch bike very nice!
I like the tube strapped under the saddle bag, great way to add an emergency tube on an epic ride.
nah it is rim brake. Ive seen some photos.
yesss. rim brakes 4lyfe
Love it. Intro typos included :)
(don’t change them).
Not like I could change them even if I wanted to ;)
Cheers
I love my Litespeed Watia
I got an ultimate disc Litespeed on a 56 and it’s awesome.
Tubulars and rim brakes forever!
I liked he didn't know (or, at least, didn't express) details about his bike like most of bike nerds, meticulously pointing to smallest spec about every bit of his bike. What was name of fork (which cost more than my wheelset)....? Tires Continental something....yeah!
The real star is that skx
A titanium frame with SRAM RED group set. "Wasn't too expensive".. hahaha I almost get offended by that.
As someone who owned that frame with only Ultegra I totally get why you would be offended! But they obviously make way more money than us. 😁
Save the Rim Brake
Makes me wanna sand stuff down 🥰🥰🥰
Rim brakes FTW!!
When you changed fork, did it affect.... everything?
I, naively, kept a carbon fork and stuck it on a new frame. Terrible idea.
Gorgeous bike
Thank you.
Tubulars.............YES
Sounds like it's time to rebuild the Extralites with Berd spokes, Or maybe build a set of wheels from those 260 gram tubular rims that Carbonfan sell. That should result in a pretty light wheelset.
Never berd spokes on a road bike ;)
And I’ll leave tubulars to the pros (and the rim brake defence force😎)
I'd love to purchase a Titanium bike but damn the price!!
Steel, ti, and rim brakes. A man after my own heart! BTW... Were the bottle cages and Garmin mount removed for the weigh in? Couldn't tell from the video.
I took off the big garmin mount and put on one that is held on with rubber bands. Removed one bottle cage but kept the other as I wanted to see how much it would weigh in a “hill climb” spec (although I would probably put one if my 14g carbon cages on if I ever did a HC).
"Two thumbs up!" - Fred Flinstone.
Nice bike
I believe sram red mechanical is pretty much the lightest groupo you can get.
I'm actually thinking about getting farsport wheels for my gravel bike.
Long live rim brakes!
great video 👍
Beautiful build by Mark. I’m interested to know how tall Mark is versus that 56cm frame? I’m in the process of building a Ti bike and I think mine will look similar proportionately to that TS2. Great vids 😎
Beauty
Which town/city is the best gateway to riding the Japanese Alpes? I plan to ride there is the next 2 years and this has strengthened my resolve.
I’ve been trying to sell my mostly new Ti bike frame equipped for rim brakes for over a year without luck. Maybe I just need to build it up instead. It won’t take mechanical though only electronic.
What watch is he wearing looks good. Also that man is ripped.(I think its Seiko )
edit: I was right its Seiko diver prospex 200m one.
Seiko SRP 775 on a nato strap
Love field bicycles great steel bikes but I haven’t seen them posted anything on Instagram in a long time hope they’re just taking a break not permanently .?
the only reason i want my next bike to be disc is to fit bigger tires. for 25mm riders like me rim is superior in every way
the alligator and jagwire are not the lightest cablehousing :) Fasi Turbo Plus is a little bit lighter :P
I love a good lightweight build. It is ironic he's wearing that heavy ass Seiko diver, though.
Mark could have saved another couple of hundred grams by not wearing that Seiko diver watch 😋
Watch nerds are a special breed ;)
I thought the same. Is this a Seiko SKX or PADI or something like that? And a Rolex Submariner at the end indoors.
Looked like one of the newer turtles to me but I could be mistaken. Beautiful watch, worth the grams ❤️
Yep, it’s a Seiko SRP775 , on a nato strap which drops the weight substantially;)
Rim Brakes 4ever 😬. Any experience with Mt. Zoom’s ultralight stem? I’m trying to decide if I should go Kalloy Uno again or try out Mt. Zoom. Thank you.
I currently weight over 3350lb and was thinking that if I could shave a few pounds off my bike it would be easier to ride. Thoughts?
Don't eat fast food sodas bread candy .
If I was religiously weight weenie, I'd be full-on rim brake fanatic, but what I'm up for is modularity/de-integration, safety, robustness, and ease of maintenance, so I'm on the disc-brake squad here. I prefer to run dual-piston mechanical disc brakes on all my bikes.
Calipers are as easy to overhaul as Shimano cup-and-cone hubs.
Cables and housings are universal even in third-world countries.
Pads are easy to replace and they last more than rim pads in various conditions.
Braking surfaces are easy to replace (no more rebuilding wheels), and can be tuned for better braking power (rotor size).
The braking system is also not wearing down or weakening a structural component.
That said, I don't like how the industry has executed disc brakes on bikes, especially on the road sector. The new mount standard, nerfed caliper mass, pad clearance reduction, flimsy rotors, and enforced rotor size limit are giving the braking system a bad rep. Makes me wanna turn over to custom frame manufacturers so I can fit MTB brakes on my road bikes.
Nice
I have a Litespeed T1 SL disc that weighs in at 6.6 kgs. It’s my regular bike. Nothing too trick. Standard clincher tyres etc.
Unlikely
@@rafaeldegiacomoaraujo8778 What do you mean unlikely? 😡If you want the build list and weights you are very welcome.
@@martind5596 Statistically unlikely. Doesn't mean it's true or not. It's just a statistical statement of the mean.
Thumbs up for #carbonsucks .
sana all titanium 😬
6.79kilograms (14.94 lbs). Wow!
It's possible to shrink that tube down more.
Why the small size?
Why is steel mixed into this vid? Titanium rides more akin to aluminium rather than steel. All three look far better than plastic :P
Love your videos, how come you're in japan?
The weight weenie in me definitely wishes rim brakes worked as well as disc brakes. They stop well enough--but even with the fanciest cables in the world, they don't feel nearly as nice as hydraulics.
Ha! I’m a dinosaur and have found my safe space. Metal frame, rim brakes. Where’s your frame pump?
what Watch is your Friend MARK wearing Pink Jersey
looks like a Seiko Automatic
You watch nerds have to look through the comments… it’s been discussed, I have no clue what so ever 😅
7:26 🤣
I wish I had the balls to ride tubulars
What were the wheels?
Can anyone share the title of the intro song? Thank YoU! I have the exact model frame, new project in brewing!
Vintage Dream - Mathilda June
@@ridesofjapan Thank You!
Gatorskins?!?! Nice bike though.
what bike light are you using?
What Jersey brand is Mark wearing?
Void from a few seasons ago
What water bottle brand are you using? thanks
Rapha bottles from about 8 years ago. Think I need some new ones ;)
Japnese?
The Strada MK10 front light weighs more than the bike.
My mountainbike with dropper post and 4 piston 180mm rotor front brake is 6,99kg
