  • This guide to cleaning wooden decking will show you the best way to keep your decking clean and looking good for years. I like the aged look so choose not to use any form of treatment, just give it an annual Spring clean.

    The enduring gardener should be on tv.Very good professional video and the cleaning of the decking works superbly.I hate using the pressure washer.This works much better and does not damage wood surface.THANKS

    Tried this method yesterday on 9 year old deck. Have tried various expensive treatments over the years without much success. This method is unbelievable. The difference is astounding. Forget expensive treatments, this is cheaper and by far more effective. Deck completely refreshed..Well pleased. Thanks

    What a great idea to use washing powder ... I am going to try this 🌺🌺

    My decking certainly didn't look all wonderfully clean after this treatment, but I think it has its uses. I hadn't done mine for two years and that's partly because it's such a big chore, need good weather etc to do it the way I normally do it (far more methodical). I think I'd have been inclined to do this at least once a year if I had seen this method, and therefore my decking would have been in better shape to start with. So as I am pressed for time atm I will finish with this, and maybe just do the methodical bit on the decking near the kitchen!

    Arrr matey, swab the deck 😁
    Great job and top tip to use washing powder. Lovely deck, must have cost a Bob or two but will last a lifetime I guess.
    Cheers 👍

      You’re not wrong, at the time I remember it was a months salary ! But as you say it’s lasted 12 years and there’s still some years left 🤞

    Great video, thanks. Is this method oak specific, or would it work with the standard ridged treated decking that you get from builders merchants?

      If you haven’t got access to a power house then there’s Nothing wrong with a bit of elbow grease and warm soapy water.

    Why does the color look so much more appealing in the beginning of the video?

    • @TheEnduringGardener
      @TheEnduringGardener  Місяць тому

      It’s darker in the beginning because it’s wet from the rain. I prefer it a lighter shade when it’s dry but that’s just a personal choice. If you like the darker shade then you could always oil it after you’ve cleaned it, that should have the same effect.

    What kind of “washing powder” do you mean? Dish soap? Clothing detergent? Either?

  • @ginfonte3386

    Hi Dan, I'm not familiar with washing powder. What is the chemical composition? Are you concerned about the toxicity of your solutions? And finally, do you put a finishing protection on the wood? It looks so exposed. 😲
    Personally, I liked the way it looked before you washed it 🤗, but then I live in semi-arid desert without your wet decomposition concerns.
    PS: your yard is looking so green and lush already! Happy Spring.

    • @TheEnduringGardener
      @TheEnduringGardener  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Gin, good to hear from you as always. It’s a detergent but I’m not overly concerned about the toxicity - after all I wash my clothes in it. I don’t bother with surface protection, instead I embrace the weathered look, rather like my face 😂. Yep shouldn’t be long now til things start greening up, roll on Spring 😊

    My main criticism is that you should wait until the temperature gets to at least 20C in mid summer ideally, so that the soap powder operates more efficiently. I was amazed that the algae came off easily from my railings just using washing up liquid so the method does work. In your case, I would use a mop to absorb the dirt back into a bucket of water.

    Hi Dan. Do you think this method would be any good on concrete slabs?

    • @TheEnduringGardener
      @TheEnduringGardener  4 роки тому +1

      Hey 👋 Jeanie - is go with a jet wash on slabs although be careful not to have it on too high an intensity otherwise there’s a risk that it looks patchy.
