Don't be too hard on yourself. The result is amazing considering it was only a light wash and some chemicals. The before & after is night and day, honestly. Thanks for the video 👍
My question is, who spends the money to put in a large deck and DOESN’T seal the wood?! Especially in such an extremely rainy environment? Such a shame. Well done you for having got it looking THIS good.
@@pete6790 Looks right to me, water to flow away from the house and not sit trapped. It's the type of wood pattern that irks me, more place for water to be trapped when dust/dirt/leaves gets in those grooves which means more maintenance required. As for why people do not seal it to begin with, I think is because they think "Pressure Treated" specifically "Treated" means no maintenance required.
Good job Sid. In answer to your question about the boards potentially being the wrong way round. The grooves were originally intended to stop water pooling on the joists, but people installed them upside down with the grooves up for tread. Now occasionally seeing decking with grooves on both sides. Personally I think grooves up is a bad idea as it allows more areas for dirt to gather and mould to grow.
Exactly! as they are laid they will hold water and allow the algae to grow more readily. Grooves down gives the underside more surface area allowing the decking to dry quicker and reducing algae. But, the decking does look better with the grooves up.
Is that true? I mean it makes sense, as you describe it for grooves down, but surely grooves up is for traction with bare feet and sandals etc.? Maybe there is a market for boards a quarter inch thicker and grooves on both sides? Also you've got a new subscriber.
Or just install a WPC decking and be done with it. I really like wood grain but if you live in a place with lots of rain and humidity, outdoor wood decking is a bad idea, unless you are willing to spend a lot of hours maintaining it regularly.
Gosh, that’s a huge improvement! Must be some wicked chemical considering how low the water pressure had to be. Looks so much better and I bet the client is thrilled. Well done you!!
What I love most about your videos is your honesty. You always seem upfront about what you do and don't know. It's nice to see a positive reminder that we don't have to have all of the answers all of the time!
Nice job, congrats on 80,00. my deck looked like that one, it doesn't get a lot of sun and the green was bad. I used sodium bicarbonate, oxi clean basically and it worked awesome. I made a strong solution, used a deck brush and scrubbed the deck, waited 15 minutes and did ti again and it came out awesome.
The owner would be well advised to have the deck sanded down and then sealed. Then you would only be faced with removing the surface green gunk next time.
The decking looks marvelous Sid and Kev, don't be too hard on yourself, every day is a learning experience and have faith in yourself, you will only get better as you do more and more often
I think it came out great. It wasn't treated and was let go too long. I think some follow-up with chemicals will get the rest of the green out eventually, especially if you were able to do it on a warm sunny day.
The grooves are for airflow on the underneath, but some installers think its meant for grip. But some decking is grooved on both sides. Its only upside down if its flat on the other side
I would suggest getting a flow regulator for the wand. That way you can reduce the pressure but still get in close to the grooves. I find holding the wand at a distance or trying to use a wider tip isn’t the same as using a lower pressure.
@@Sir-Bane You can, to an extent. A flow regulator though is much more easily controlled and can be adjusted as he's cleaning. Plus it's about $25 USD, so not a huge investment to try it out.
I'm impressed with your cleaning of this deck. I have done many in the past, but have discovered algae can get ingrained in the wood and will never come out. Wait until it drys before applying a deck protector with anti algae treatment.
You will definitely reach 100,000 subscribers this year. In fact I will not be surprised if you find yourself approaching a million before year's end. There's something really comforting about watching you work. You have a sincerity and kindness about you that comes through in your videos. The world has become a crazy place these past few years and stress and anxiety are wreaking havoc in many of our lives. There's something therapeutic about watching your videos. You bring a little order back to the chaos and a lot of hope back from the doom and gloom. Thank you and congratulations!
Ah yeah, I totally remember this house! That's some CRAZY grooved out decking they chose to go with, eh? Looks like what they need to do now it's clean is sand it down (get rid of the grooves) and refinish it. I imagine the grooves lend the thinking that it creates better grip in such scenarios, but it does NOT, it just becomes a nightmare to tend. It REALLY did come out lovely though, Sid. I know to your trained moss hound eyes it's not that great, but that's also the beauty of wood. The ageing. Well done fellers!
Timber Decking cleans always come up different Sid, depends on type of timber, original treatment, post treatments over time etc. The last one I done had been laid in 3 big sections over the years and all 3 areas came up differently. Your one came up amazing considering it's clearly not been maintained over time.
Congratulations on 80k you deserve them and much more . Can’t wait to see you hit the next one. Keep up the hard and quality work and thanks for sharing this with us take care
I love it that you are honest to us to say: "I never have done this, so this will be a learning experience for me too" because it shows that even you don´t know everything but are willing to learn more. I saw other UA-camr who often are lying like "Yeah... I´ve done this so often" and then they make it wrong or even worse 💀 And it shows you made a pretty great job 😊👍
Hi, I remember this job. I’m the one who said the boards are upside down. Shocked at how bad it is after just 12 months. If that were my place, I’d rip them out and put something better down. Great job by the way. 👍🏻
I think you did a great job. Now, the homeowner needs to clear coat, stain, or paint it to prevent that from happening again. I have decking and that what I did. Cleans off beautifully. Home owners need to do their part too. Congrats on the 80k!!! Your deserve it for all your hard and wonderful work. I think 100k is definitely doable this year!!
Just to let you know that I reside in the US. I have enjoyed your video. Been watching other folks who pressure wash but I enjoy your videos more. I find that you work with tires of roofs and the driveways especially. Most driveways are concrete and not brick. Every time that you work on just increases your knowledge and what your pressure washer can clean. So your growing. Many thanks! Dan
Looks great there bud, I always go 1-2 on the hypo and water mix which I find work. Also when I think its going to still be discoloured I will inform the customer and offer a dark stain application afterwards to hide it
You did a great job on the deck! It looks sooooo much better now and once it dries, it should look even better. Plus, the residue of the treatment may take away a bit more of the green as it dries. If I were the client, I would be more than satisfied with the result.
Great job. With my own decking. I've always used a bucket of bleach and hot water. Scrubbing with the lines with a wire head broom. Then blast it off with a high pressure hose. It works a treat.
Um I'm from USA. Here we put down the chemical and then brush it with a broom going with the grain of the wood. Wait the alloted time and then pressure wash it off. Basically the same thing that you did. This deck is beautiful. And I think you should be proud of the work you did. LOVE THE VIDEOS!!
I'm not in a very rainy climate but the only way I was able to get my deck clean to re-seal it was to scrub it with a bleach and water on my hands and knees! Was a tough job cause we let it go to long but the scrub brush got the green out! You did an amazing job!
You are definitely your biggest critic Sid, in my opinion you did a cracking job, and I’m sure the look of it improved even more when it dried out fully.👍
You do good work sir. At home I've used 3% hydrogen peroxide with a scrub brush to clean algae from our deck. The woodwork ends up looking lumber yard fresh with no worries about chemical residues, though it does cost a little more. The algea will grow back, but orders of magnitude less if a sealant is applied after the wood dries. Your videos are a treat to watch. Cheers.
Spectacular job! I'm sure the homeowner appreciates the diligence with which you and Kev tackled this job. They should probably have it professionally sanded and then sealed (more than one coat) to keep it looking good! Enjoyed the video!
Great job not many people will know this that decking is actually upside down people believe the groves are for grip but in actual fact they are for letting air get between the decking boards and the joists there was an interview on tv years ago between the manufacturer of these boards and a builder.
Excellent job!!! I hope the owner will consider using a sealant. Any future cleaning will be easier because the sealant worked. I don’t see any Green anymore. You worked a miracle!
Part of your viewing success has got to be that in the US nobody cleans their roofs!!! I mean I’ve never seen such a site😳🤣 Fasinating ❣️❣️❣️❣️and you are so calm and easygoing. Congrats 🎉🎊🍾 you earned it!
Well done nice finish when i do decking i give it a good brush then rinse down then apply about a 2% soft wash mix and give it agood srub then a good rinse then apply a biocide which keeps it lean for a lot longer always comes up well👍👍
Pressure treated wood doesn't need to be sealed. But washing it after it's been exposed is tricky. Soft wash light chlorine bleach kills the green slime in Florida. Too many washings it would become soft and you have to replace it. Don't try to take all the gunk off leave a patina like old silver dark in the etchings. I see so many people pressure washing away the architectural features that were meant to be happening. Sometimes perfect it's not perfect.
I've used a very powerful ball bearing (drum based type machine) karcher attachment on decking before and it took the old water based paint off as required but it started to tear the fibres of the decking out but was OK after a repaint!
Don't be too hard on yourself. The result is amazing considering it was only a light wash and some chemicals. The before & after is night and day, honestly. Thanks for the video 👍
I have told him that before. I know he wants perfection, but damn, his
customers are always happy with his work. He needs to relax.
Amazing 😻
What chemicals did you use on it?
My question is, who spends the money to put in a large deck and DOESN’T seal the wood?! Especially in such an extremely rainy environment? Such a shame. Well done you for having got it looking THIS good.
Plenty of idiots put bourds on the wrong way.doing decking all surfaces of roofs.i love what i do.

Best chemical to put down on decking??

Decking is smooth except in UK. An oiled deck wouldn't be slippy. Only untreated weathed wood.
Or just install a WPC decking and be done with it. I really like wood grain but if you live in a place with lots of rain and humidity, outdoor wood decking is a bad idea, unless you are willing to spend a lot of hours maintaining it regularly.

Wet and forget does wonders. Spray on and leave for a few days. Had similar growth in my garden and was surprised by how effective it was.
The decking has been put on upside down, the ridges should be underneath as the ridges hold water and moss grows on it. Good job though.
I was wondering why there were ridges on it. I was thinking, I've never seen a deck like that.
They fit it like that in the UK everywhere it's stupid 😂
The grooves are for airflow on the underneath, but some installers think its meant for grip.

This is the perfect opportunity for the owner to stain and seal the decking. It should look brand new after that!
paint, not stain
