    2:22 for video title. Look I get you're excited about truck mods and stuff, but can you put that stuff at the END of the video, with a mention of it in the first little bit before the intro. Its the proper way to tag along updates for regular viewers without making new people have to scrub through looking for the title content

    I have a 6" lift on a Nissan Titan XD. I added airbags on the rear to prevent tail-dragging. Tires stick out maybe 2" (technically illegal in California). With a drop-hitch, it is very stable and tows our 8500 lb. travel trailer like a dream. You might want to try it, not just talk theoretically.

    I use to always lift my trucks but once I started rving it didn't take long to realize that lifted trucks aren't for towing heavy. I'm a offroader at heart but rving with my family is more fun to me now. So now my trucks stay mostly stock. We have a 40' toy hauler that we take cross country often so I want stable towing more then a lift.

    It does change the geometry but it will still tow fine. 2010 f150 with 6" lift and 35s. Tows a gooseneck and bumper pull or sway. With a nice suspension, you could make a lifted truck tow smoother than stock. Of course at some point a lift wil be to tall. A 6" lift or lower will tow no problem from personal experience and people I know. Of course bigger tires is a little power lose but that really the only negative I've found. My truck only sits a few inchs taller than a factory F350 since the 17+ is so tall from the factory. I researched the bed height before I installed the gooseneck. I don't use airbags even though they would help I just don't like the complexity but my truck doesn't squat bad enough

    The tire comments hold true even without a lift. On my stock 18 F350 I put new tires on and went with a different tire than stock althoughthe same size. Hooked on to my old 5th wheel like I have a hundred times and within 5 miles I probably poo'd myself twice. I made the family ride in the wife's car cus I didn't want anyone but me in the truck

    This looks to be your edition of a mix tape, with so many topics. Thankfully you addressed the issue of towing with a lifted truck. So many want to look "cool" while lifted and bigger tires, but they compromise the capability and safety of their truck. Who knows better than the manufacturing engineers who design and build these trucks? Tow ratings, stability, and safety are all thrown out the window for the sake of looking cool. I love the aftermarket, but keep your wits about you folks, especially when towing with your family. Thank you, BTBRV

    I know that some duallies are lifted for oilfield and pipeline guys and they tow trailers to live in while gone or whatever. I've seen very few lifted duallies that do look good and Ostacruiser's is one of them it's got a 6" lift and it's got a Ranch Hand Bumper with Warn winch on front and a flatbed running 37" tires and pulls a 40' filth wheel toyhauler from Canada to Texas every spring. It looks awesome. The only way I could use a lifted dually is with a flatbed on it.

      Not sure I agree. Anytime you raise the back, you change the center of gravity as well as alignment and angle of components such as your driveshaft, U Joints, and almost everything else related to the trucks original geometry. This all effects towing immensely.

    Payload and tow ratings are for the truck as built. All the extra weight of the lift , wheels and tires have to be deducted. I went from 245/75/16 to 265’s . Even changed the wheels. The truck feels like I’m riding on jelly donuts. With Michelin tires. When I need new tires going back to stock wheel size and tire size. Florida has a bumper height law but for some stupid reason it only applies to half ton trucks. As far as the spike lug nut covers, it takes a special kinda person to have those.

  • @Dumbass_mechanic

    You were talking about the extra sway added by taller tires. To add to that, especially on a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, you need to pay attention to the weight rating of the aftermarket wheels. I have personally seen a really nice new Ford f250 towing a fifth wheel, and the wheels failed. What you then end up with is a totalled truck that the towing company then has to pick the fifth wheel up off of to move.

    Squatting rear doesn’t always mean raising the front. The whole deal is weight removed from front axle. The more weight taken off the front axle is where most of the white knuckle feeling comes from... steering feels sloppy, doesn’t stop as well. That’s why you can carry more weight with a goose neck or 5th wheel. Bumper pull type trailers push down well behind the rear axle rather than above or slightly in front of the axle, so when towing a bumper pull your rear axle becomes the pivot point removing weight from front axle. I see people putting in airbags and timbrens, which in my opinion gives some sort of false sense of well being be cause “ it isn’t squatting” truth is if you put solid steel bars in so had zero squat your front axle weight will be the same as if was squatting. Way to combat that is put counter weight in front of front axle.

    I have been on a search for a used 2003-2014 3/4 or one ton diesel powered 4WD 8' box pickup for almost a year. I don't buy new pickups and my current pickup is going on 23 years and 350,000 plus miles on a Dodge Ram V10 gas powered engine. The big issue is I want the newer truck to be stock as I do tow a fifth wheel and I want it stock heights for the fifth wheel towing. I looked long and hard for a stock suspension truck until this week. 95% of the trucks I looked at in this class had lifts, expensive tires and wheels and being lifted they were just to high to tow the fifth wheel. I have been working with a dealer salesman to keep his eyes out for a truck in stock configuration. Monday I got the call to take a look at a truck at the dealership. It was 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel SLT with a 8' box. What surprised me is a 15 years old diesel powered pickup with 122,000 miles and NO modifications to the base suspension except a aftermarket tie rod shock strut. I signed on the dotted line for that truck at less then half the price of what it cost new. The only mods I plan for this truck is have the stock stereo taken out and install a backup camera and a upgraded stereo.

    Question for you: I have a 2018 F450 with 245 tires in the stock 19.5’s. The only suspension mods I have are Rancho 9000 shocks and Air Lift 7500 bags on the rear.
    The truck is my DD, so I keep the tires at 80 psi for comfort. Do you suggest I air all the way up to 110 when towing heavy (my boat/ trailer is right at 21,000 lbs) or should I go up to 90-100? I just got the tires so haven’t towed with them yet

    This guy thinks that the tire bowing out is because it's lifted or has taller tires. Ha ha ha. The tires are bowed out like that because the tires are wider then the rim. Ur theory on bigger tires cause more sway. Yes and no. That's like saying the lower profile tire u have the better for towing. Yes if u are running 40 inch tires with 15 in rims yes u would get tire sway. But is u find a medium ground u won't have sway. I have 35x12.50 tires on 18 inch rims. Single wheel and I've towed several times with no sway whats so ever. The reason the tires stick out wider is not because it's lifted. The tires stick out further so it widens the truck to compensate to the lift it has, it also minimizes sway.
    Oh and about the tires swaying. If u are running the proper tires on ur 3/4 and 1 ton u will not have or get tire sway. Do u realize how thick the sidewalls are on my 35 inch tires and there not as big as most tires. If u are running a off-road tire and towing with it yes it will cause sway. But if u are running just overall bigger tires but the right tires for towing u will not have any issues. Mud tires are not made for real towing. I run ridge nitro ridge grapples and I tow great. Rated for 3k or so lbs each.

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  5 років тому

      They can cause sway. This can help be balanced by using a drop hitch as well as focusing on weight balancing on a trailer. The tires will likely cause sway though.
