Carole King was my mother in 1970 when I didn't even know what a mother was. She was warm, emotional, and involved. I still listen to Tapestry and know that we had a bond she didn't even know about.
So many of us had "Gloria Steinem as our "mother " back then..thank goodness that that skipped a generation, and that we have a few loving aunts to show us different. God is so Good!
I live in Hong Kong and I am 70 years old now. In 1972, 52 years ago, I was studying late at 1 am at night for college exam, the radio back then was playing James Taylor’s You’ve got a friend.
Anthem of that time, however, our time is Still now. Don't let the bad guys define us...or delete the truth that is. Let's decide that all of humanity come out and experience what we did. I hate that our grands live in a different world, an unsafe world , than we and our children did. It is time now for my generation to stop this madness...and we are doing it. Wake up people. Please. Stop watching TV, get online and look for alternative news. We were brainwashed too..but stopped watching TV/Cable in 2005. It is amazing to see the changes in our thinking! God has this and each and every one of us too...if we just accept His free gift of Salvation. He came for us. Eternity is forever.
One of the greatest songs of all time. Thank you Carole for writing it and thank you James for making it famous. And thank you for singing it together.
We always have a friend in Jesus whenever our boat is tossed to and fro in our life's difficult journey. That's how I got the message of "You've Got A Friend." A song that is soul inspiring >when earthly friends failed us, we have one BEST FRIEND IN JESUS.
Where has the time gone? Life was so simple back then when these 2 extremely talented artists came to fame. I want those days back for my Grandchildren
Carole King is one of the most successful female songwriters in the US, she wrote or co-wrote 118 pop hits appearing on the Billboard Hot 100 over the latter half of the 20th centuryr. King scored her breakthrough with the album Tapestry, which topped the U.S. album chart for 15 weeks in 1971 and remained on the charts for more than six years. King has made 25 solo albums, the most successful being Tapestry, which held the record for most weeks at No. 1 by a female artist for more than 20 years. She has been inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a performer and songwriter. She is the recipient of the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the first woman to be so honored. She is also a 2015 Kennedy Center Honoree.
It was meant to be,,,,I did meet James he needed a expesso it was 530 am but I acted like no big deal It was surreal he was staying at a resort I worked at
Tapestry was one of those albums I used to play and sing to over and over and over as a teen. Carol is an icon for a reason! So many amazing songs that she recorded, and she is also incredibly talented as a songwriter. She's written songs that were perfect for her and for people like James, Aretha, The Drifters, Mariah Carey, and Donny Osmond! Her songs move us so much because they are real, just like her!
I have been a huge fan of Carole and James for many decades. They are timeless…. I particularly love the interaction in this clip. Beautiful and harmonious unity. #lovecarolekingandjamestaylorr Bless you both!
The strangest & greatest thing about these two is that they sound the same so many moons later...Their relationship is a magical friendship... The talent is just amazing, when they collaborate it's pure beauty for the ears..
Loved it back then when Carole sang it & loved it back then when James sang it. To see them sing together ❤️ is pure magic. If only you could capture moments like these and bottle them. They're worth their weight in gold. Xxoo You got a friend!
This song got me through a bunch of years. And then i would play a James Taylor song and keep driving across the country knowing deep down inside that it would all work out....and now that was 50 years ago.
no words can describe caroles beauty and energy! She still sounds incredible and James is perfect!!!!! If u can see this show its a once in a lifetime experience. You will be in heaven every minute. The audience sang every note along with them. It doesnt get any better than this show!!!!
May is just say, they are both gems, but my preference is the man's version, this even though this lovely talented woman wrote the song. Only James Taylor could sing this with so much feeling
I saw James Taylor at an intimate open air concert in Haddington, Edinburgh, for my 40th birthday, I will neverforget that, totally amazing, and that was more than twenty four years ago. 😊
I was fortunate in the early 70's that my older brother played James Taylor which started a lifetime love of this warm, talented human beings music. I have been lucky enough to see him several times over the years. I'm now nearly 63 and still in quiter, reflective moments, I find myself listening to him. Play secret o life when I'm done with this world and I will die a happy man. Bless you James! Xx❤
Wow can it be we are getting old =) wow just yesterday I was a free young man now im in the winter of my life .Yhanks for the song made me think of younger days and the summer heat and a special youn lady
This song performed by Carole King and James Taylor is to make you cry! This letter is pure poetry and sensitivity, typical of the genius James Taylor. I think I heard this song for the first time when I was about 12 or 13 years old, I believe that the end of the 60's and even today, when I listen, I get a strong emotion! How good music was made then! This Baldwin piano crying in the background is killing ... Thank you for everything, James, Carole, you are irreplaceable ... Who never needed a friend shoulder to cry on? Paul Pecchio, from S. Paulo, Brazil.
Anyone who has ever needed a friend should think of this song! I was at a concert in West Hartford, CT in the early 70's where James introduced an up and coming musical star and I guess he was right ! She is a stellar star!
Carol King was writing and singing songs since the 50's. Neil Sedaka even wrote "Oh Carol" for her in 1958 in an effort to ask her out, so she wasn't up and coming in the 70's. She was famous since she hit the stage in the 50's.
Revolver Den A few points: Her first single, 'The right girl' came out in 58. She was only 16, & it wasn't a hit. She became famous as a songwriter with her husband, Gerry Goffin, in the 60s, but not as a singer until 'Tapestry' in 71. Neil sedaka, had already dated her, in high school, when 'O Carol' came out. She married G. Goffin the next year, 59.
Nothing ever touched me in my life more than the loving friendship ot these two most marvelous human beings. I just love both of them for what they contributed not only to music, but to the American lifestyle, and they just did it so easily, by just being who they are. Simply Magic.
Carole King nd James Taylor great team, first heard them wayback in d late 70's in d "Fire nd Rain"album nd staightaway i knew this was a gem, made me do an appraisal how much friendly were my friends down d memory lane

This was our Class song and motto when I graduated from high school in 1971. Never get tired of hearing it and this rendition is one of the best ones I've heard.
My life has been a Tapestry of rich and royal hue, an ever-changing vision of an ever-changing view. A wondrous woven magic in bits of blue and gold. A Tapestry to see and feel impossible to hold......Carole King's magic. Just love it!!!
This song got me through law school. They tried to tell us we knew more than anyone else did about anything. Many times I listened to this and sang along--"They'll take your soul if you let them, but don't you let them."
With her power and magnetism it's difficult to think she wa ever reluctant to take the stage singing her wonderful music. Thank God she changed her mind!
Carol king l have bought and replaced her music in every format , every screwed up relationship and ever move since i descovered her music in high school. A true a genius, i will always cherish her music.
This is one of those that’s an audience favorite. Have you heard his solo acoustic version from a year after this. No singers, none of the usual people. Tells a good intro before he starts it.
Such a rustic singer. Beautiful music and lyrics and the voice compliments that. Carol King, Carly Simon, Laura Nyro. We don't have a single female like 'em anymore and probably won't again.

It brings back so many great memories for me!
It's timeless!
My first album
In 100 years, if humanity is still around, we'll still be listening to it.

Phew. Big call there. Though I love James, Carol's writing and delivery had such raw pain behind it. So far Away is just classic

@@patrickvanrinsvelt4466 So's "Fire and Rain." And JT didn't exactly write that from a happy place when he was twenty-something. 😞
This song epitomizes both of these geniuses. Because they clearly are true friends.
March 15 2024 and I'm here for it.. Again ❤
After some 51 years, it´s still a joy to listen to these two as if no time has gone by. One of my favorite songs of all my times.
Ageless

Absolutely beautiful
Timeless
Past, present, future...
Tear jerker... Still loving both of them after half a century

Memories from the 1970:th....one of my favorite
I had forgotten this recording...Thanks for bringing it back to me on November 1 ,2024 ! PEACE
Simple love and companionship never gets old especially these too
This is an absolute treasure ❤
The friendship they have is amazing. You can tell they adore one another.
What for me is the most difficult part of growing old is the music, how in these times there is hardly any music that matters.
Where has the time gone? Life was so simple back then when these 2 extremely talented artists came to fame. I want those days back for my Grandchildren
YOU SAID IT!
U a shithole
If you are as great as this woman, you have NO GLASS CEILINGS! Stop using this excuse! Just be a Carol King!
Absolutely. Bring back the joy!
