Lyrics:
And it's too late, baby, now it's too late
Though we really did try to make it
Something inside has died
And I can't hide and I just can't fake it
Oh no no no no (no no, no no)

I was 20 when this beautiful song came out; Im 72 now and so much has happened to, not just me, but the world. This song never fails to lift my spirits. Thank you Carol King ❤
I bought it then as well. And I’m 72. Speechless
@charlesflett2818 Well obviously great minds think alike! 😉
I seem to like this song in a different way to you. I wouldn't say it lifts my spirits at all. But I am always riveted by its evocation of failed love.
Agreed! But it must be a dark spirit connecting you. Darker song (bc it’s too late). Magical chord changes. W O W.
@@jedgould5531 try watching a live performance. I think it’s an eighties one. It’s even better than the recording.
I'm a young millennial, but I have to say Pop stars today can't begin to compare with this woman. I don't know how I didn't discover her sooner. She's awesome.
Trust me I'm 62 ( no judgement or disrespect at all) there's a who lot you are missing so keep watching you tube & educate yourself & your friends on losing all your freedoms SOON... with what you all are being "taught"
Wow we are honoured. Nice to see you. Welcome to the hippie commune.
Yep since the early 70's
@@mikekron6968I don't think they're going to cancel you tube lol
@@RStark-ek7mh Brings back good memories, huh?
Carole King, Karen Carpenter, Carley Simon, Joni Mitchell, Roberta Flack, Judy Collins and Joan Baez. Unmistakable iconic voices.
.......and Olivia Newton-John, Elkie Brooks, Diana Ross, and Dionne Warwick - remember them too. These are all way, way.............. better than some very average or poorer vocalists nowadays. Why not also mention the late, great John Miles (Mr. "Music"), and Tina Turner too.
@@Tony-H-Gos I often read comments like this on UA-cam, almost always from older people (of which I am one) and they hack me off. This risible over-generalisation that people can't sing these days. There is more music than ever right now augmented by the TV 'talent' shows so the ratio of 'very average or poorer vocalists' is certain to be higher. But there are plenty of singers who are every bit as good as those you speak of and please don't mention auto tune. Try listening to Weyes Blood and Angel Olsen and tell me, hand on heart, that they are 'average.' Or in the rock/metal sphere, Floor Jansen of Nightwish.
linda ronstadt too !

Legends!
Back in the days when true talent ruled the airwaves. Carol King is one of the greats. Today’s music (if you can call it that) is deplorable.
Listen to Olivia Rodrigo doing the tribute to Carly Simon with You’re So Vain. Then tell me people can’t sing nowadays.
I think you just made their point.
The clue is in "today's music".
A música atual está ruim porque as pessoas também estão.
You just aren’t listening to the right music out now.
@justinkohl3818 I have children who listen to all sorts and even they aren't all that impressed either.
The 70's wouldn't have been the same without the Tapestry album
Ain't that the truth. One of the greatest albums ever recorded.❤
Absolutely
Too true. I have had a copy of that album on every generation of media since I bought it on 8-track in the early 70s. It never gets old.
Carole King: authentic musician, raw and honest. THIS is music. No bullshit formulaic pop music with autotune and special effects. 2024, are you listening??
Yes, wonderfull❤❤❤❤
Yep
Three instruments and one incredible unmistakable voice. There will never be another Carol King. I am 63 and I still love this song to this day...
I’ve loved this song yesterday, today and tomorrow. I have no words to describe how much this entire Album affected my life.
I appreciate you always Ms. Carole Queen!
I mean Ms. Carole King 👑
Beautiful voice

A piano, a guitar and a beautiful pure voice.
Don't forget the bass player.
Carol King s a musical genius. She deserves way more credit then she’s been given, but most geniuses do.
Yes 👍.
2 time rock and roll Hall of famer that says enough.
Her and Todd Rundgren (even though King was a little more talented) never got the credit they deserved
Had all her records way back .She was a Big Star 🌟 in those days
❤️❤️
I introduced my kids to Carole King in the late 90s. They still love her music. Timeless
I can't listen to this song without thinking of what it sounds like on a transistor radio laying in the grass in my back yard back in the 70's
Same here, glorious times!
Wow man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Transistor radio, had one of those with the one ear plug, I had another radio about 12 inches high it had leather on the outside or looked like leather and it had 3 knobs in the front for the volume the station and I forget what the other one was for and a handle on top, I miss thoses days❤🎉😊
Yep - Medium Wave, radio 2, 1970s...introduced by Terry Wogan.
I am 66 and watched this show live in 1971 and it still sounds great. The BBC liked to record singer-songwriters in an unplugged environment. Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Elton John, Laura Nyro, James Taylor, Eagles, Cat Stevens, Crosby & Nash were featured. The found quality was always excellent. This was a wonderful era for music.
I went to school with Carole's daughter, Louise back in the '70s. Carole would occasionally join us girls for morning coffee and date nut bread at Du-Pars in Studio City. Very cool mom!! She is such an amazing songwriter and performer. Her songs have carried me through for decades.
Cool😉👍
U are incredibly lucky to have experienced that. I love the 70s. Wish I grew up in that era
Wow.. that’s amazing. She seems very down to earth. Through some close friends when I was a teenager back in the late 80’s we went out to Martha’s Vineyard and ended meeting and becoming friends with Carly Simon’s and JamesTaylor’s daughter, Sally Taylor. She looked so much like Carly. Very cool girl and laid back. Great memories and I feel very fortunate for my experiences early on. Oh and yes... the artists then were truly artists. TIMELESS
Cool.
Any idea the story behind this song?
@@chaplainmattsanders4884 Nope.
I am 57. I was 6 when "Tapestry" came out. Everyone and I mean everyone I remember owned, liked or played it. It was like the Mary Tyler Moore Show, very empowering to women.
❤
Since when were women not 'empowered'?
and why all of you are single with cats
1973 at 16 me and my girlfriend broke up., must have played this song and album a thousand times. Fastforward to 2023 my wife and i have just separated, yup, here i am again, thank you Ms. Carol King, your music is medicine.
My mom passed away from cancer a few years ago, but i remember her playing this record when i was a kid brings back memories of her. 😊
It ' s never too late to listening to Carole King
Best comment ever 💗

Time wait for no one
This lovely woman's music has been a comfort to me for 50 years! I just turned 70 years and I am so glad she has been with me all this time!
Nicely said
The ones that had the priviledge to be a teenager at those times can be happy. I was a teen those years
So am I do
This lovely woman has been a comfort to me the last ten years, but she's now70 years old and that could be a problem...
Im 64.bought this album when i left school
Good memories
She was EVERYBODY'S very talented big sister for about a year.
I am 58 and anything that Carole King does reminds me of the coolest teacher I ever had. Her name was Joan Saunders. She was fresh out of College and got a Lead Teacher job in my School District to replace a teacher that planned to travel around the World. I still think of her as the most influential person of my youthful life. I was 6 years old and the War was happening and was really bad. She was into Peace, Freedom for all, The Ecology, and treating people the right way. She taught us that everyday. The best part is she filled in for my First Grade year, and did such a great job that she got hired. Then, I had her again in Third Grade. She is part of why I am who I am today. I am a Humanitarian. I am an activist for the Environment and am against War and believe nothing that our Government (USA) says about anything. God Bless you Mrs. Joan Saunders, wherever you are. Spring House Elementary in Spring House, PA.
Genius. No lip sync, auto tune , flashy production etc. Pure raw talent
Indudable temaso chidos recuerdos
and really good quality video for 1971

Can we include Melanie Safka as well?😊
Brand New Key etc....
Considering the performance is over 52 years old the audio and video quality is just simply amazing ! Wow ! :)
Yup... That's the BBC for you, they nail live 👍😥
@@dudestyle01 You are so right about the BBC, very competent employees. It's a totally different music genre, but to support your comment have you seen the "Tubular Bells" live recording done in 1973 also by the BBC. Very impressive recording. ua-cam.com/video/KXatvzWAzLU/v-deo.html
Analogic technology, the best quality audio ever.
I remember sitting in the back seat of my father's 1974 chevy Nova listening to the song in the fall in st Paul MN. Memories
Back in the day, EVERYONE had that Tapestry album
Hi Ellen
It's a beautiful & heart touching song❤❤Hello from Scotland!.
How are you doing today? I guess you have a great passion for music just like I do? I hope to hear from you soon!!!
Incredible really how many songs Carol wrote that we still hear today. She really is a genius to write and perform so many songs that we know.
Carole King is a national treasure, her music is legendary. Love Carole King!
If the U.S. were a monarchy, she would be a "Dame" by now.
Amen to that Juan and my best to you and your family take care my friend
Yes indeed
Yap! I was second -year student at Moscow University in 1972 when one of my friends received Tapestry on vinyl record as a gift from his relative in US. Since then I have heard-a-many records and tapes, as the Music is important part of my life. So Tapestry is unrivalled in its raw sensuality, wilderness and beauty in all its ingredients -lyrics, vocals, arrangements and specially string arrangements. Carol King is God blessed gift to the humans. Tapestry, Hunky Dory, Dark Side of the Moon, Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. These are four milestones on which entire modern music is held. Es pura verdad, amigo!

❤
😢
Beautiful! My dad was back from Vietnam and my brother was headed over.
She just gave up and was like 'fuck that I'll just create my own instrument if you can't hit that note lol'
I was 20 in 1971 dating Michelle B. (who I was crazy about) when this song came out. It had a melodious richness that blew me away. Man, were those the days.
I was born in 1969. When Tapestry was released my mom had the LP, and played it until the grooves were worn out. I learned what real music was about, and these are my favorite memories. I was truly blessed to have heard the best music ever recorded because my mom introduced me so early. I went to school with the intention of becoming a DJ. For years my mom would always say if I knew my homework as well as I knew music I would be a straight A student. I had the best teacher, every genre, and it truly spoke to my soul. ❤️🎶❤️
Released 1971......, hope she had no laud speakers
I met Carole King briefly on the side of a stage when she was on a USO tour in Kosovo. she was so nice and we chatted for a few seconds and then pardoned herself as she was "next on stage" she was so nice I didn't realize it was her! Carol, thanks!
Great to see Kootch getting some recognition 👍🇬🇧👍
I'm 34 and sometimes I think I was born in the wrong decade. What an epic song
Same, only I'm 44.
We all do I'm 48 now and it feels like I was in the 70's more then just being a baby In 1975 this kind of music really touches your soul
The best thing that happened is when she started to sing her own songs. Beautiful and perfect ❤️
very well said 👏 👍
carole King I love
You do know she wrote the music, not the lyrics?
Boy, I tell you, this is the one that transports me completely back in time...
1972. St Paul, Minnesota. I was babysitting; the kids were in bed, and I put this album on low after grabbing a soda out of the fridge and a bag of chips. The youngest in her fluffy onesie kept wanting to get out of her crib. She's a doctor, now...
I played through the entire album twice, but it's this song that grabs my heart the most... ❤
Great story! crazy where the time goes. Those were great days. No tiktok and distractions. I really feel sorry for the kids today. My babysitter watched for me when I went from Toronto to St. Paul as a 3M rep in Toronto. :)
Ahhh ❤❤
@@andrewdouris6035 Ah, yes. Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing...
Awesome 😊👍
Back in 1971, it was pretty safe to say that Carole King was the top female performer in the world. Maybe even the top period performer in the world. If not, close, very close.
One of the best songwriters ever - very underrated. Tapestry is an astonishingly good album - every single song is brilliant. And she is utterly gorgeous!!
John, very well said! I second everything you said, with the possible exception of being under-rated. I've seen where some consider her one of the best of all time, and so I'd agree with them. And she is very beautiful indeed!
But if others don't think she's one of the best, then you're right, they are under-rating her.
What makes you think she’s underrated?
Still have the vinyl of Tapestry
I have my tapestry album on CD.
Brings tears to my eyes. It reminds me how I felt before my divorce. We were circling the drain, caught in a gravity well. No escape
Time will heal what reason cannot. I'm sure I'm echoing the sentiment of everyone who reads your comment when I say may you find peace and happiness again.
Good songs just can't fade away. They just linger forever.
There's a story from Carole herself about how John Lennon acted very rude to her when they first met in the 60's. She later asked him about it in the 70's and he admitted he was intimidated by her superior song-writing ability and didn't think he was worthy, so reverted to his arrogant sarcastic behavior shtick. Can you imagine John Lennon being intimidated by "anyone", especially at a time when the Beatles were the biggest thing on the planet? Goes to show how great Carole is and how much other musicians respect her.
GOD BLESS YOU JOHN LENNON. You died way too soon. It wasn't fair for what happened to you. MISS YOU!
I can't believe this song/album was release 50 years ago! today 10th February 2021 It still sounds AMAZING!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You have yet to learn to live, as there is something amazing to discover almost every day.
It was huge, a lot of my friends had a copy of Tapestry. The uni radio station was playing just before it hit. Listened to it in the Caf every morning.

It’s right here!
This is what happens when you allow 5 or 6 mega corporations + the tech giants and ticketmaster to control the mass production and distribution of music and art in general.
We do, it's just not played on the radio.
Without a doubt a national treasure. Tapestry was one of the best albums of all time. Can't help but love that lady! What a talent!
I went to see on Broadway the musical about Carole, it was fantastic…but the real Carole is so much better, she’s irreplaceable
The early seventies Brooklyn in this song is positively palpable.
The breakups, the makeups this song witnessed, was many’s soundtrack of emotional learning. Carole sure got, and shared her life talent.
I love how the guitarist made the most of his moment. His solo was soulful and brilliant
Yep...and I noticed he incorporated the riff from the song, "Funky Nassau" during the solo (3:21), which made Carole smile. Funky Nassau was a hit on the radio but wasn't released until March of '71. I bet the date on this video is off by a few months.
Such a beautiful song, but sad at the same time. One of the best songwriter's ever.
As a young child in the early and mid-70s, I always heard her music on the radio. It was very popular back then. I always liked it, but as I got older I appreciated her multiple talents more and more. Carole King is nothing short of AWESOME!
Right there with you, Tariq. I had to grow up to understand how amazing she really is.
Man, just CRUSHING it musically, vocally AND tearing your heart out....and has the time to brush her hair out of her face at the same time.
I could never forget this presentation, it was part of my high school graduation. Congratulations Carole King & James Taylor.
Puts a smile in my face the way she vocalizes even some of the guitar lines. Such a soothing voice.
I can’t imagine life without Carole King.
Wish I was there watching them live! I wasn't even born yet.
I was taken to a hospital at that time, nine months vanished in a mad sadness, thought wouldn't make it. I had a small radio with me and this song became a significant friend of my abism. Will never forget about that.
I was 14 and and attended a Catholic high school where I played Carol King on the jukebox in the cafeteria , the also had a smoking room so thick you could hardly see, and the nuns baked HUGE chocolate chip cookies for a nickel.
I'm 52. I think I first heard this I was about 6 years old. The melody just kept playing in my head. 😊
I think that her 1974 Album Jazzman was vastly underated.
The soul and sadness of this song hits me so hard. I’m in a loving marriage but I can’t stop listening to this song, it’s beautiful. Tapestry is one of my favorite albums.
It reminds me of my son's first wife who I will always love.
To my mind, every single song on that album is sheer musical genius. I cannot think of any other album by any other artist where every track could have been a hit single.
This song tells a story ,It reminds me of my mum n dad I’m afraid to say my mum even said so too x
"Something inside has died..." 😔
In my opinion this album is up there with Sgt. Peppers and Pet Sounds as one of the most important and influential recordings in RnR History.
I agree! She is a brilliant songwriter, the equal of McCartney, Paul Simon and Brian Wilson. Tapestry is a magnificent album - every song utterly wonderful.
yea her album is tops. called Tapestry.
And Something/Anything by Rundgren.

Nice to hear Danny “Kootch” Kortchmar here, not drowned out by other musicians.
I love the way James slips in a touch of the 'Funky Nassau' guitar lick at the end of his solo, much to the amusement of Carole and the bass player. Looks like they were having fun.
1971 grandparents and I left New York to Miami waiting for the house 🏠 to be finished cold ❄️ November moved in . These were the songs on the radio then .
Split up with a girl back in 2016 and played this all day as I painted the house...it relaxed me .... still felt the pain though.

Yep, on the radio early 70s....memories.
I remember when the album Tapestry came out. I was 12 at the time. It still remains as one of my favorites. Im 65 years old now, and yet i appreciate the older songs that have withstood the test of time.

I'm a little boy again in the 70's...lol😅😊 here in CAPE Town ,South Africa,Apartheid and all that but life was still good😅😊❤
The piano intro of this song is one of the best of all time. Just my humble opinion of course.
There’s something so genuinely authentic about her.
I didn't appreciate her and so many great musicians back in their time. It was just so natural to turn on the radio and bang, good music was there. I thought it is just how it should be. Now I'm wiser.
i was 4 & 1/2 months old when this video was recorded. It's aged way better than I have.
I saw her in a sporting goods store in Boise in the 70's. I immediately knew who she was and she smiled and said hi.
This lady is a true music icon. Simply a stellar musician.
So wonderful. She is her own genre, she elevates music itself.
Such a beautifully haunting song - it’s been covered by MANY, but no one’s version is quite as beautiful as Carols.
Such and amazing beautiful song still in 2024. Carole King is great!

Beautiful music I the 70's💪🙋still have that album
Im 64 shes still one of my favorite musician.
What’s one lesson you’ve learned in your 64 years that the upcoming generations should learn ?
Carol King and her husband at the time, Jerry Gothan, were EXCELLENT songwriters for a lot of pop artists back in the early 60's. They wrote songs for the Beach Boys, Little Eva, and many more, etc...
The beautiful girl next door.
All it takes is a piano, a guitar and an amazing singer! Fills your soul!
Amen to that
And a bass player. These guys always go unnoticed.
Brings me back to the good times of the early seventies
What do movies and music have in common? It's the writing that determines the quality of the respective art. The writing on Tapestry is unparalleled.
Most overrated album of all time
I started listening to Carole King when I was 15. Now I'm 62. Been preaching in Baptist churches for 33 years. Still love her music. She is a sweetheart.

Her music is the songbook of my life. I heard this song when I was coming out of my Lawyers office after filing for Divorce in 1991. I got in my car and it was on the radio. It was and is such an appropriate song. I was married at 19 and divorced at 29. Have been single ever since. If you don't learn from your history, you are doomed to repeat it. I only had to learn that lesson once.
