Sadly a reflection of how Mrs. Franklin was often treated earlier in her career: she cited not getting paid her promised fee by many promoters as the reason for always insisting on getting paid cash-in-hand prior and taking her handbag with her on stage. The habit seems to have stuck. A reminder of the sad treatment of artists of color in the past.

Aretha took them to Church! She reached out and touched the heart's and stirred the soul! So moving! Tears were being wiped from eyes. People were raising their hands and standing to their feet! She could sing the phone book and make you feel that every word was just for you! She was so humble looking towards Carole as to say this is Your song and I'm honored to sing it. Never acting prideful as to say look at me I'm the queen they call Aretha! She was one of a kind. So special! Totally gifted and blessed with talent and inspired many to lift up their voice and sing! ❤️

Carol King was ecstatic but what a legend in her own right . I was riding the streets of LA with my cousin John ( JT) and when It’s too late came on the radio . It caught my ear and stayed with me all my life. To see her honored is such a great thing. Give her flowers while she’s alive. President Barrack Obama and First Lady Michelle did some incredible things in his 8 years of office . Such a class act. And then room was filled with appreciation what a story line .
