  • A day out driving this stunning modified Z4M around the cold but sunny roads of the UK. The car has the benefit of being fitted with the Eventuri air box, KW coil overs & CSL replica wheels.

    I think the hype over these will just grow with time. Timeless beautiful design especially in coupe form. Amazing, unique and legendary engine that has an acceptable degree of realiability, 8k rpm redline, and fat, but still rev happy power curve. ITBs! Amazing sound ! What's not to love. Drove both this (z4mR) and an s2000, and the z4m takes it !

    Great car. Check out the titanium KKS catback with exhaust valve. Not sure if they're still on sale, were very expensive I read on forums, but worth every penny. If you press the button hiding behind the steering wheel you'll open it up and have no back mufflers at all. Screaming all the way up to red ;-)

    Great review. This car is an absolute delight. It is a lot different than the E 46 M3 are used to own both at the same time and there is quite frankly no comparison. Also, the coop has that marvelous CSL steering rack. The convertible doesn’t. I bought my first one of these three years ago for $27,000. I just bought the second one with very low miles and in very good condition for $50,000.

      Thats incorrect, the roadster indeed has a CSL rack. The coupe’s rack is a CSL rack, but is even faster

    • @jjchockey
      @jjchockey 5 місяців тому

      Wrong. Both have a FASTER rack than the CSL. E46 CSL is 14.5:1, Z4MR is 13.7:1, Z4MC is 12.8:1.

    That sound though... Just like the CSL box. This is the best recorded sound of this intake. I was doubting to get my hands on a Evolve aibox, but in Belgium there it looks like my car wouldn't allowed to drive anymore in 2024, and therefore high mods like airbox will be lost money when it's standing still in my garage if it gets that far. I had a airbox on my E36 M3 with cams and race exhaust. I got addicted to that induction sound.I'm going for the Eventuri.

    @davidlarkey690 6 років тому +1

    The eventuri is a must i think. The z4m is basically the same set up as an e46 m3 clubsport then with the csl steering rack and brakes. Was only available in 2005 i think. Ive spent the last 9 months closely looking for the right one but yes it has to be the manual and will absolutely be a investment. Keep up the good work

    Lovely looking car and really interesting video. The Z4MC has been an under-appreciated car for a long time now which I find amazing considering it has one of the best engines ever made in a rare, beautiful looking coupe.
    I would think that this car is worth mid-twenties easily assuming all the history is up together and not £20k now.
    I'm not sure though about the Eventuri sound or the 19" CSL wheels. With the airbox, how does this affect fuel consumption as you have to change the MAF mapping as I understand?
    It sounds good for a blast but to live with all the time I think the sound could become a bit wearisome?
    For me the CSL 19" wheels look dramatic but start to make the car look a bit 'over-wheeled' IMO. The ride quality is very firm with the standard 18" wheels so I would think the 19" wheels with the lower profile tyres would make the ride even harder. I've seen a number of Z4MC with 18" Apex wheels and they look sensational but also retain slightly more sidewall so don't affect ride.
    Love the Space Grey with the Imola Red leather.

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  3 роки тому +1

      Agree they have always been in the shadow of the e46 M3 but are certainly rising in value!
      No mapping changes required on the Evolve airbox/ filter, it’s only required when you install the fuel intake carbon airbox (e46 M3 CSL style) and as far as I’m aware run Alpha N mapping (e46 M3 can run a cloned to CSL “MAP” sensor so works OEM perfect)
      Agree the Apex wheels are beautiful and really suit the car, I reviewed a heavily modified Z4M running the full carbon airbox and apex wheels (stunning thing) sorry for the interior audio as this was pre-interior updated microphone -

      My first "mod" is the eventuri intake. However, the first place to spend money is Rod Bearings and Vanos - to make sure you don't have any catastrophic problems lurking.
      Did my bearings a year ago. Vanus will be next spring.

  • @1anre

    Coupe heavier than chassis, here did you get that stat from? Even the cabrio E46M3 is heavier than its coupe variant. So why would the Z4M differ? That’s why enthusiasts hate cabrios

    • @2321thehack
      @2321thehack 5 років тому +1

      The Z4 M Coupe curb weight is 3,250 lbs. The Z4 M Roadster tips the scale at 3,150. The E86 chassis IS heavier than the E85 because it was based on the roadster chassis, with a roof simply added on.
      The E46 coupe vs convertible, on the other hand...The E46 M3 Coupe weighs about 3,450 lbs, with the convertible tipping the scale at nearly 3,600 lbs because to take a coupe and turn it into a convertible, they had to add a ton of bracing. The E46 Coupe starts out with 12,000Nm/degree of deflection, which for a modern sedan is slightly above average. The E46 CONVERTIBLE tips that stat at around 10,500Nm/degree, which is very average. But without the hardware and bracing, it's probably around 9,000Nm/degree of deflection, which makes it very soft and bendy with a ton of body movement in cornering which is detrimental to handling.
      The E85 chassis, the roadster version of the Z4 M, tips that same scale at 12,000Nm/degree of deflection, which is roughly the same chassis stiffness as the E46 Coupe. The E86, on the other hand, with no additional bracing but a solid roof structure in place, tips the stiffness scale at a whopping 32,000Nm/degree of deflection. That's Ferrari foxed top F car territory. You can imagine why the coupe derived convertible E46 is so much heavier...The cowl area, the front subframe, under the subframe, the rear chassis, diff, the rear subframe ALL had to be substantially reinforced on the E46 to even make the convertible drivable.

      @@2321thehack Now I understand it. Thanks a lot.
      I now understand why people say the E86 Z4 ///M drives so well. The degree of deflection which can also be known as stiffness, is very high.
      Hope to cop one someday.
