Correct test is this supercharged vs stock with 4.1 or 4.44 final drive... Also with shorter final drive you are put more power on tarmac. Stock gear ratio is really to long for modern tyre, you find now stock car with 400/450hp with same gear of e46 m3. Is ridicolus...
I've got a VF supercharged z4mr with some very hefty modifications and an NA z4mc! The sheer performance on my roadster can't be matched- I'm working towards making 650 WHP right now. Trying to be the highest horsepower z4m in the world 😅 I'm currently at 500 WHP
Dude 500whp in a Z must be nuts 😂 I have Status Gruppe on mine, love the sound and it’s a steal compared to other options. I don’t think $2-3K stepped header will make a meaningful difference on a car that’s already so crazy. So I’d go off which sound the best to you.
@@BuzzytheBlue It is pretty crazy, and awesome! I was leaning towards those as they seem to be the most popular option- my main reason for swapping to catless is once I make the flexfuel swap the flames would blow the Cats off!
3:10 what’s the point of spending thousands of dollars for your car to feel just like it was when it was stock? These things are awesome as it is, especially with the 3 L, properly maintained… You have to do so much to add boost, buy turbo or super charging. You might as well put another engine in it. Then it comes down to costing as much as another car… If I was going to turbo charge or supercharge a BMW Z4 I would not do it with the one I have, I would buy one with a broken convertible top for three grand with 150,000 miles and start from there
I have an OG M2 and I'm kinda listing for something NA. The M2 is amazing, and heck for a turbo the N55 is actually a wonderful sounding engine. But yeah, I wonder, is the z4m the answer?
It certainly could be, I’ll say this though, I have an N55 335i manual as my everyday car to compliment my Z4M and I am really enjoying both of them. They’re radically different engines both in terms of character and the way they make power. I haven’t driven an M2, but I’d say you should try to find a Z4M to drive and see if it works for you. I’d wager the Z, even a coupe, is also a less capable “daily/Jack of all trades” car than an M2.
@@BuzzytheBlue definitely a common sense approach there. There's been a few heart over head ideas that I've had with cars and found the dream is often better than the reality. M2 is a high benchmark, and it's close to good enough, but there's still a detachment that irks me. Thanks for sharing your content. I'd go the GT4 of course but they're pushing 300k here in Australia.
Maybe test drive a newer M2 Comp or the like, I haven’t driven any of the M2s personally, but maybe that connection you’re looking for could be found in another version of the M2. Have you driven a Z4M? Could be worth finding one to take for a spin!
@@BuzzytheBlue I have driven the comp a few times, it was better than mine was stock but I've replaced the suspension with Ohlins and now I find mine better in terms of ride and on par with steering. I probably omitted a big point - it's a DCT not a manual! If it was manual I might not be looking at all.
It’s a wind deflector, I think he said it’s an aftermarket one the previous owner had. There’s a original BMW one that’s similar. Idk if it helps much.
I can’t believe I finally found this video! I’ve been looking for this comparison since I was kid! Lol. I got the 23i 2011 and I’ve been thinking so much in getting the 35is Turbocharged. For me it just didn’t make sense to spend money on to get it to 250Hp in front of putting that money on top and getting the 35is with 340Hp already… I do want the power but I wanted to see if is for real that obvious! And yes! Even when you have mod your NA it’s still slower. I don’t care about the sound, I want the power because for me that’s a really fun car to drive so far and that’s exactly the experience that I want! For daily I have my Panamera and it’s ok. So I think I’ll go for that 35is Twin Turbocharged asap! 🙌🏼 And then to put some more power on of course, if I can make it to 450Hp I will be really happy!! Haha
You mean 2006-2008 right lol? Those are the years for the Z4M. And there are tons of them for under $30k. Hell, I’m selling mine (the black one) for under $30k.
Yup. I was paying more attention to your presentation than the cars. 2014, to 2016 Z4 M40 has been burned into my brain for about two months. My understanding is the 2016 is the last year for the manual, can't find one anywhere so far. @@BuzzytheBlue -Sooo, anyhoo. "Ooops". Great video!
No worries! Another thing that may help though, I think in those years the car you’d be looking for is a Z4 35i actually. (Don’t bother with the 35iS because that’s dual clutch only) M40i is an engine designation for the brand new ones (2018+)
That's interesting. I'd been at the dealership buying oil stuff for my '97 Z3 and asked a salesman if he knew the last year for the Z4 M with manual. He said 2016. I will start researching your suggestion. Thanks!@@BuzzytheBlue
Dude, we have too many of these guys filming themselves driving and spouting platitudes about “a testament to this chassis”. Wtf does this guy know about car chassis? I’m not these public roads are really teasing out the pros and cons of expert BMW engineers.
For one, I’ve owned one of these for like 7 years, tracked it numerous times, auto cross etc. so yes I’m comfortable talking about this specific chassis lol. Also, it’s a more simplistic comment than you’re making it out to be, the car handles additional power without feeling like it’s too much for the rest of it, unlike say a supercharged Mustang. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to gauge that.
I'm so tempted to supercharge my BMW Alpina Roadster Z4. Big 👍s up
Did you end up doing it
Always quality content from you👌
Thanks Louis!
Great video, great content! I've kept my M3 NA so far, this is tempting though! Keep up the good work and excellent content.
This is the very decision Ive been stuck with. If you have somewhere I can send a photo I came up with the answer.
thanks for the great stuff.
On Instagram @buzzytheblue there as well. And glad you enjoyed!

How much power is extra?
Your car definitely sounds way better. Considering how much power you can get from more soulless electric cars, personally, id go for yours any day
Thanks Keith! We gotta catch up soon

I'm looking for a good set of catless headers to complete my exhaust, any recommendations?

Cracking video. Having put 80k miles on my M Roadster I've always preferred the CSL airbox to a supercharger.
Thank you! Money no object I’d just keep my Z4M AND grab a supercharged E46 M3 coupe.
@@BuzzytheBlue that would be a great combination. I just got a 2011 E63 AMG. Such a lovely machine.
How much hp are you pushing with the air box thinking about going that route
@@brandonata5847 I need to dyno the car but in the neighborhood of 310whp I think. Slightly more or less. That's with headers too though.
@@BuzzytheBluewhy supercharge the e46 m3 instead of the z4m if I may ask ?
Great video as always! Seems like a great option either way
I think I saw the supercharged one at Mpcat this year - looks like the exact same car, same color, wheels, etc lol
570 bhp? It's incredible 3200 lbs.🎉
The only bad thing for me about NA is there never seems to be enough road :(

is this silver car still around? these is one in california with the same kit for sale right now , it has a 135 k on it.
Not sure if he still owns it or not, but really if rod bearings are done mileage is a non issue on these, even boosted.
You should start a z4m group/registry for all of us z4m owners.
Ha! Someone was telling me there’s a WhatsApp group with a bunch of them. The forum is pretty active too I think.
