      2011 Xterra Pro4X with 6-speed manual, bone stock. Superb vehicle with one failing: the rear leafs are WAY too soft. Even empty the thing bottomed out on mild dips, and this is from the factory (bought it used from a neighbor with only 9,000 miles on it). Loaded out with my overlanding gear the thing is just not adequate for challenging feral roads (I do a lot of Baja trips). I’ve got about 90,000 on it now. I’d like to get about 2” of lift and chuck those damn leafs. Is this too soon to throw out the factory Bilsteins the Pro4X came with?

    Actually the 5100’s are made to be used for your factory coil springs. I contacted Bilstein personally and was told, that not using the Factory springs would void the warranty. And that they were designed specifically to work with your factory components.

    As an owner of a 2019 Colorado Crew Cab 4x4, V6, that I’m totally satisfied with the way it runs an rides. I was interested in leveling the look. However I also tow about once a month, with a 26’, 4,400-6,400lbs. So I could not go over the 2” mark, then tow level without air bags in the rear. So I decided strut spacers were all or nothing, plus only add hight. So I decided upon Bilstein 5100 RHA Struts/Shocks, both to balance the ride. So I set them at 1.9”, that works out perfectly! Being able to tow level. But most importantly, not only hight in front, but added suspension travel! That has really helped a lot off road with big hits that used to cause the front to bottom out, even on the road! Now hardly ever! With superior dampening, especially towing, with a weight distribution hitch, that set the truck/trailer nice an level! I’d advise anyone who is contemplating a leveling kit with spacers to look into the Bilstein!

    I added those in my 2015 Silverado in the rear and I have a Rough Country 3 inch lift struts in the front and it worked out great for me. I know not everyone likes their truck to ride stiff but I prefer to go into corners and not have that body roll. It's a heavy truck not a car and I am well aware of that but once in a while it comes in handy.

      If you are happy with your ride quality we'd suggest sticking with the springs provided. You can pick up springs with a longer free height and higher rate if you wanted to tune your ride a bit more.

    Hey thank y’all so much for this video! Incredibly informative! I’m looking to get the 5100 kit, and was told that you shouldn’t max them out to the 2.5” inch height because it will reduce the height of the shock.. is there any truth to this? (I drive a 18 tacoma). I’m also gonna be adding UCA’s. My last question is if i add 33s if they would clear or would i have to do some minor plastic trimming? thanks in advance!

    • @AlldogsOffroadCoop
      @AlldogsOffroadCoop  2 роки тому +1

      More than anything, maxing the height reduces ride quality. For 33" you'll have to trim some plastic.

    • @eldorado96
      @eldorado96 2 роки тому +1

      "...reduce the height of the shock"
      The more precise way to view it is that raising the ride height using this adjustment is also consuming exactly that much of the upward travel/extension of the shock. Probably not a big deal by itself because the other components (in OEM form) are going to limit range of motion anyway.
      If your UCAs are intended to increase range of motion, maybe you need a longer than OEM shock anyway.

    With the 6112s and the different coil spring weight capacity options available it looks like there are some things to consider with the three variables of coil spring weight capacity, strut clip length and lift amount. How do you determine what setting for the strut clip for any given coil spring to achieve a specific lift height? For example if I choose a light duty spring and place the clip on position #1 will that give me the same lift as using a heavy duty spring and the clip on position # 1.

    • @spatulaman2753

      Springs are typically the same length. The difference is in the diameter of the coil spring wire. Thicker coils are heavy duty.

    I have a 2019 stock Tacoma which is my daily/work truck. I load the bed with cabinets, sand scoops and Home Depot runs quite frequently and see the sag when I put that weight on. I occasionally do some off roading and camping. I’m also thinking of putting a lumber rack/ leitner rack. By the sounds and looks of it 5100 is calling my name. Since I don’t do too much off roading I don’t think a 3” lift is necessary and 2.5” should be more than enough. Also What springs would you suggest me going with and should I swap my leafs or add and if so what option would be best?
    Thanks

    For street driven 2019 Tundra, would 5100's paired with 2" lift coils (Dobinsons etc) be a better option for ride quality than using oem coils with 5100 at 2" circlip preload for lift? Thinking 6112 is overkill for road truck unless the ride quality is way better on street than 5100 setup mentioned above. As for the rear plan on using a 1" (max) tapered block if necessary for level.

      The 6112s are an "OE Length" shock so you won't need to do any sort of diff/t-case drop with that setup. You'll see up to 2.25" of lift from that kit. We have a variety of rear coil spring options manufactured for us. Feel free to shoot us a message on facebook or via email if you have any more questions!

Mine is a stock "off road" FX4 package, and I'm not sure what the factory "lift" is on those. Most likely going to buy the 4600's or replace with the Rancho RS5000's that came with the truck and are completly worn out. (guessing they are the original ones).

    I recently got a 2014 4runner SR5 in excellent condition, and I am so in love with my car. That said, I did notice that it does like a nosedive when applying brakes. Also, the ride quality is excellent, but again a little bit too soft. I'd like to eliminate as much as possible that nosedive and also a firmer ride.
