  • Today we installed our Ultimate RTR Bilstein 6112/5100 kit on a 2021 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road. This kit utilizes ultra reliable Bilstein 6112's with Bilstein 5100s for the rear shocks. For the rear coils were using Old Man Emu rear 2898 coils. These are on the heavier side of rear coils but this customer will be adding extra weight.
    For the upper control arms were using SPC (Specialty Products Company) upper control arms that are adjustable at the ball Joint which uses a bolt in style sealed ball joint that is maintainable with a simple Zurk greese fitting.
    We really like the SPC Upper control arms and have been able to get some fantastic alignments. The other great thing about the SPC's is you can achieve around 3.5-4 degrees of positive caster which moves the tire forward in the fender well making slightly more clearance from the body mount. Trucks with 285/70/17s most of the time we are even able to avoid a body mount chop that rubbed on the body mount prior to the SPC upper Control arms.
    The Bilstein 6112's are a solid shock setup for the front and much a larger then the factory shocks or even the Bilstein 5100s. Since they are a 2.4" shock body for reference a King Shock is a 2.5" shock body for all the OEM specific shocks. This gives us alot of dampening power up front, the bigger the shock and the more oil it holds the better the dampening power, its science really.
    In the rear we decided to go with the rear Bilstein 5100s for a couple reasons. For one the Bilstein 5160's are always hard to get and not readily available sometimes which means if one starts leaking its not easy to get another one quickly all the time. Also unlike the 6112 vs the 5100, the 5160 is no bigger then the 5100, its essentially a 5100 with a remote reservoir. Although remote reservoir are awesome serve a great purpose they dont come without there downsides. Many times the first thing to start going wrong on the Bilstein 5160 is the reservoir fittings and hoses. The Bilstein 5160s are not rebuildable or even rechargeable so if this happens your basically out of luck. The 5160 is a great shock but for ultimate reliability in all elements especially corrosive ones the 5100 is a better choice.

    When doing the crude alignment that really should have been done with weight on the suspension. The camber goes way out (positive) when fully drooped. I know it's just a crude alignment anyway though.

    Thanks for the video. Will 2 inch lift in the front and probably 1 inch in the rear on 2011 4runner require longer sway bar links? Can't find definitive info. Shock guides and videos are not talking about it. If yes, how much longer should I extend them assuming I buy adjustable links? How do we know if they are in the correct angle/length? Thanks

    Really torn on this lift vs OME BP51. I want a softer ride, with high speed wash board capability. Aside from cost, any thoughts?

    • @yotamafia
      @yotamafia  Рік тому +2

      This is a great lift but the BP-51 setup is definitely in different class. The BP kit is a rebuildable shock with external resi’s and the shock has rebound and compression adjustment. While the Bilstein 6112 is actually around the same size if not even a little larger shock piston then BP-51 front shock, but the kit has adjustable rear larger shocks as well with external resis.
      The BP-51 kit is fantastic, if your after the smoothest ride possible it will definitely do that and be great on high speeds as well. For washboards roads that really comes down to the air pressure in your tires but both suspension kits will be able to handle those great.
