- Join us as we take a loot at the Ruger SP 101 4 inch, eight shot in 22 Long Rifle. We compare it to the 357 / 38 Special model and take it to the range firing CCI Mini Mags, Aguila Super Extra, and Norma Tac-22 to compare the results.
Good shooting! Always wanted one of these.
They are nice pistols. Something about the rubber grips with wood inserts that really appeals to me.
"MN =My name" Verdaderamente, señor, usted es un hombre misterioso!
Muy Misterioso!
Cool video My Name. That made me laugh. I was going to watch last night but my dog kept pestering me so I gave up on my computer time. I have that SP101 in .357. I love that little revolver and it shoots great. I have two actually. The 4 inch like the one you showed and I have a hidden hammer (double action only) one with a 2 inch barrel. That S&W looked really neat. I wonder how it shoots. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks.
Thanks as always for your support Cervus! The SP101 really is a special revolver. Wish they made one in 22 magnum.
@@texmexshoots Oh that would be cool. The one I like now and want to work towards is the 327 Mag. One day perhaps.
You got a nice gun range set up, how much land do you have?
I’d love to see another review on this. I love sp101’s.
Thanks K! It is a fun revolver and a great pistol for hiking and keeping away the pests. I'll try to make another video at some point. Take care and stay safe!
I got the gp100 in 22lr. It's pretty huge but fun to shoot. That sp101 looks like a good size.
Thanks for watching Brett! The GP100 in 22 is a beautiful pistol. The SP101 is a little better for carry due to weight, and the same can be said for the 357 versions. I much prefer to shoot my GP 5’’ 357, but rather carry the SP 4’’. That being said you can’t go wrong with either revolver. Just make sure to wear a good belt. 😀
Have had mine for 10 years or so, great little gun
Thanks for watching Kevin! I plan on doing another video soon testing out some different bulk packs through it.
11 lb on a double action revolver especially a 22 is not heavy. That's almost perfect.
Thanks for watching! You are probably right Brit. I'm probably just accustomed to semi-auto trigger pulls. I need to take this revolver out and practice with it more.
Good review, nice gun and sexy holster! If you are going to shoot a new-to-you .22LR I do what you did; take 4 or 5 different types and weight so ammo and enjoy the moment of finding what it likes and doesn't like. Take notes, take your time and experiment. I had poor luck with the Norma Tac .22 in semiautomatic pistols as it was "gummy" with too much lube. I didn't stick with it enough to notice how well it shot since I was more concerned with the function. Aguila is becoming a new favorite! Happy New Year to you and your family.
Thanks for watching Frank! I pray for a joyous and prosperous New Year for you and your family as well!
I plan on taking this one out a few more times before I settle on it's favorite ammo. Plus I need more practice with its trigger. I started taking notes years ago with all my firearms, usually when sighting them in. On some I even tape notes to the butt stock or inside the shoulder sling. Recently I've used my videos as logs to remind me which ammo certain firearms like. I'm not certain I ever had a good memory and age isn't being kind
😅
Great test ! The SP is a great revolver I’ve fired them before !
Good choice in .22 lr !
Thanks! I plan to do another video with it soon. I want to see if I can get the groups a little bit tighter. Might try putting some other 22 loadings through it.
@@texmexshoots I’ll watch for that video !
Always fun testing ammo for accuracy that’s what I do first before I go hunting for wild chickens !
Thanks for the review and information about Camp Curry Leather. I'm trying to find a SP101 or GP100 in 22lr but at least I can get a holster for my Blackhawk now!
Thank you for watching h1orxrah! They've made a few holsters for me and they are all great. I ordered from them through Etsy. Not sure if they also have a separate website.
.22wmr would be a nice caliber for the sp101.
I agree Lucka! One in 22 magnum would be fun and would make the revolver much more versatile.
Oh yeah, I also have a GP100 357 5" - doesn't get much better than that!
I agree! Although I love my SP101 4 inch although I think the SP101 looks best with a 3 inch barrel and the GP with the 5".
With a replacement grip, wouldn't this be the ultimate practice pistol for anyone who owns the .357 magnum counterpart?
Yes indeed. For someone with a 4" (or other length for that matter) SP101, this model could be a great training tool.
Thank you. Great job
Thank you Tiger! I appreciate your kinds words.
Another 22 😳. Not bad, first drought now floods. Ok down there Texican? 🌵 🌧 🌊
Hey Lawrence! Doing well. Thanks for asking!
Getting a good amount of rain but could still use more! Water levels were getting pretty low and some springs in the hill country stopped flowing. Hopefully these storms will raise the aquifer levels. Better than getting it from a hurricane!
@@texmexshoots just check-in. (pun) miss the LVT, been to long. Let the Mex in Tex run fer the boarder.
Bought it, fired it, hated the trigger, sold it
Soup, I cannot argue with your assessment. It is a HEAVY trigger.
Would palming the cylinder affect the DA trigger gauge results? lol
That's fair David. Although I tried to cup my hand so I wasn't dragging on the cylinder. I didn't feel any movement on my hand but I can't be 100% certain some small part wasn't touching.
Try resting the bottom of the butt of the revolver on something more solid , it tightens up my groups a lot !
Thanks for the advice Norman! I expect you are correct.
what was the distance ?
Hello Tammy! Thanks for watching. I was at about 12.5 yards from the target.
Price?
If you can find one, they run anywhere between $700 - $900+ online. Like everything, prices are going up.
Thumbs down for how you pronounce Aguila
Ah Gee Lah 😁
Doesn’t matter, it’s shit ammo anyway. They sometimes have some sort or resin on their brass that gums up my Mark IV mags. Chi Mini Magdalena the way!
