This one is a little bit different than my usual videos. I am not the best person to do these "comparison" videos, there are lots of folks much more knowledgeable than me on these revolvers but I do feel like I covered the basics pretty good here. This video was recorded and uploaded in 4k if you want to watch it Ultra HD so you can really see the detail on these revolvers. I love reading your comments (even the mean ones) so let em rip!
I believe you do an excellent comparison. You always have have some of the most informative gun reviews on the internet.
I know there are good gun experts out there and I respect their knowledge and reviews. You are a shooter and I also respect your knowledge and views. I also like the fact that you indicate when something is your opinion. I come here to get an honest shooters opinion not a sales pitch. I have watched your channel for years because of who you are and what you do with firearms. Don't sale yourself short you bring a lot to the table. Thanks
Great job on the comparison. You hit all of the differences most folks could hope for. Thanks for doing what you do.
You did a fine review.
It's all in fun and enjoyment of firearms.
Specs can be looked up for those wanting all of the details.
Best Wishes! M.H
Price difference?
Congratulations on 100k, I love your style of videos, no "tactical" running around in a vest nonsense, just normal presentations and reviews!
Ruger or Smith & Wesson is an age old question. The great thing about America is you can have both! …and a Taurus too. 😉
Unless your in Ca, then you can have neither.
@@QuietMikeW You can’t have an eight shot revolver in California?! 😧
@@QuietMikeW There are plenty of guns in Ca. to select from and buy for self defense. Unless you plan to become a mass shooter like a lot of gun nuts out there, it’s not a problem.
I kind of favor the Taurus.
@@chiwawa130 Mass shooter with a .22 revolver? Spoken like a true tyrant.
I like both pistols, maybe the smith a little better but for the price difference I would have to go with the Ruger but I really do not like its trigger pull. I like your no BS reviews and you do not do the self promotion a lot of others do. I have not interest in seeing any one running around and diving on the ground! I also notice that you take care of you revolvers and do not snap the cylinder closed as I have seen others do. Keep up the good work. I am 85 years old and do not have time for someones self promotions.
Love Buffalo's video. Doesn't start off with running around behind barrels, doing mag dumps, etc. Just straight forward information. 👍
Nice unbiased review. Always nice to see side by side comparisons. Thanks Buffalo.
Man you are so easy to listen to. Very informative. It seems like most videos are such a big show(off). I usually skip the first part. You are pleasant to watch. Thanks
Good video, Buffalo. Very clear explanations of the differences. When I was young, I learned to shoot on Rugers, but now I can also appreciate the qualities of S&W. Keep up the good work!
I'm a Smith & Wesson man, I doubt that will ever change
I've had Rugers, and Taurus revolvers, not going into specifics, but all I own now is S&W's, quality and durability can not be matched, in all calibers.
Informative. Of course I wouldn't expect anything else from you. Very nice video Buffalo. We appreciate all the hard work that you put into these things.
I would choose the Ruger. I don't need the extra weight for a 22lr, especially for a kit gun. Thanks for the video 👍
Thanks for the video buffalo!!!!
You are great!!!
Love this channel!!!
All the best my friend!!!
The S&W is just a tried and true service style revolver. And This 22 is a beautiful revolver !
The first two handguns I bought on the day I became 21were a S&W .38 Spec. J frame for work and a Ruger .22 LR SA with 2nd .22 mag cylinder for fun. Over the last 53 years I traded, swapped, sold and bought both guns. Now at 73 I still have a Ruger stainless Single Six w/ an extra 22 mag cylinder and a Smith and Wesson Mod 17 in 22LR. Guess it was just meant to be! Both are excellent handguns for their purpose! Rugers have always been built stronger than most and Smiths have always paid more attention to detail and artistry.
Always fun and interesting videos Buffalo, no matter what the content.
I really appreciate your opinions and admire your technique of helping us learn about the products you test Buffalo! And you are a damn good shooter. I really admire your double action shooting!
I have Ruger revolvers and Smith & Wesson revolvers. I have an older model 63 Smith & Wesson .22 revolver from the late 80’s or early 90’s that I truly love. It has been my favorite small revolver since I got it. It is only a six shot gun, but that’s okay. It has a great trigger pull, no hole in the frame, and a chromed hammer and trigger. I will never sell it. I wouldn’t mind getting an SP101 in .22Lr sometime, but I wouldn’t want a LCRX Model. I don’t mind the weight, I’ve carried a heavy pistol everyday for years and am used to it (just get a very stiff gun belt). I loved watching you shoot the Model 63, you are very skilled. Thanks for sharing, Buffalo. You are one of my favorite UA-camrs as you are genuine and not some ridiculous phony. Have a great day, and I hope to see your channel exponentially multiply!
Enjoyed this review very much. You have relevant insight and excellent descriptions. Thanks for posting. 👍
Fine review Sir. Thanks Buffalo!
Oh yeah! Was hoping for this video! Thanks Buffalo!
I love Ruger single actions, but for double actions, I just find the Smith to be more elegant, aesthetically pleasing, and refined.
Hey Buffalo! Great video. One of the reasons I subbed was your willingness to tell us about things we request and YOU ARE HONEST!
Everything you do is Quality, Comrade Buffalinski ! ☺
Ha !!!!
Excellent video as always!
Great review. Would love to own both. Thanks Buffalo 👍👍
You do a great job with your videos, very impressive! I still can’t get over your shooting skill!
Thank you!
Well done today & thanks for the shooting links
I bought a S&W 63 six shot 4" barrel many years ago and sure glad I did.
Great video Thanks for your unbiased review
Excellent comparison. I bought a new Ruger LCRx and the trigger/cykinder would lock up often..Sent it back for repair
For a hiking/plinking gun I would take the Ruger. But I would buy the S&W if I planned on handing the gun down to my sons. The Smith is heirloom quality, the Ruger, not so much. The Smith trigger will get much better over time. Great stuff as usual. Thanks.
I would get the Smith, but I don't have any use for kit guns. That Smith, with some nice custom wood grips would be beautiful and a nice shooter. An heirloom quality gun that'd be good for training the kiddos on.
I could see the advantage of the full length ejector rod when using crimped end shot loads due to the extra length.
The 63 Smith is a perfect 22 revolver. Just the right size and weight. And fantastic quality.
Thanks Buffalo , great video. I think I'll be getting the S&W
Thank you so much..so glad I found this video helped me choose.
Awesome video! You answered my question! Thanks!
Good honest review. Thanks.
The choice is of course up to you . I have had a few of each but i now only have 4 S&W much more refined wolff springs and perfection.
I enjoyed your comparison, thank you.
Good job! I have experience with both and he's right, you can't go wrong with either one.
Thanks, a good and informative video. Take care.
Great comparison. Thanks .
Good review-thanks!
I just noticed congrats on 100K subscribers
Shoot Buffalo, I watch your vids to see ya shoot. You are impressive. Thx, tho. Enjoyed all the facts you presented. 😎
Your vids are first rate. Thanks👍!
Awesome thanks for making this video
Thanks for doing a side by side review.
Great comparison.
Thanks, that was really helpful. I like the lesser weight of the LCRx but the trigger pull is an issue. Actual street price and availability might be closer to a wash.
Thanks for giving the trigger pull weights on these 2 revolvers. Is definitely persuaded me to buy the Smith and Wesson.
That Ruger trigger is a slick and wonderful feel, but of course anything rimfire is going to have a pretty stiff pull.
Mr. Buffalo, well done....I just wish I could find a DA/SA revolver in 22LR out here in Nevada. Still had to find them with maybe the exception of a S&W 617 which is not really compact and has 10 rounds, however the ones you compared are more suited to carry. There are plenty of SA revolvers like Heritage Arms or Ruger Wranglers. And on occasion there are 22 Mags, but no ammo even now. Both very nice. I almost bought the 63 just before the pandemic and have not seen one since. Thanks again, sir.
If you have weak hand strength as in Arthritis go with the S&W or Ruger & get a better trigger with the price difference. It's a win either way. Good details on both. Thanks
I have never had anything but praise for the S&W revolver trigger. A little time and emery cloth can make them a freakin' dream. When you get to larger calibers, Ruger has a superior stainless steel alloy. My 686 had the top strap stretch from repeated use of hot loads. But boy howdy it was a pleasure to shoot.
Bill B. ---never use aluminum oxide grit on stainless steel.
It will inbed into the wear surfaces.
Stay with silicon carbide.
It's much better 😎 Also NO diamond or synthetic abrasive.
Thank you,
You helped me decide
As much as I love Ruger. I'd take a S&W revolver any day of the week.
I have to agree with you.
Same here
Yes and no. I would actually be hard pressed to choose one over the other, which in a way I did: when having to choose between buying a S & W 686 and a Ruger GP-100, having them side by side, both with 6-inch barrels, I went for the GP-100. The reasoning? I already had my S & W model 29, which I loved, and still do, while I had never even handled a Ruger, let alone owned one, and I decided I wanted to try the Ruger; of course, both were gorgeous revolvers, which did make choosing a painful process. If I loved my Model 29, I absolutely adore my GP-100. Having said this, I have my sights set on a 4-inch 686, preferably the 7-shooter.
I love my K Frame Smith and Wessons. I had a J Frame and replaced it with a LCRx-3. It has a better single and double action trigger.
I wouldn't. I hate that action lock.
Love this channel
Thank you, Buffalo.
Comparing the Ruger to the S&W M317 may have been a reasonable thing to do but my M317 is my least favorite .22 revolver. Most of the hotter .22 loads, CCI Stingers for example, stick in the cylinder and you need some serious force to extract them. Great video.
Good video ! Thanks
Got nothing bad to say about your videos...really enjoy them and very impressed with your marksmanship
Both beautiful. Thank you.
They are both good guns The Smith has a little bit better trigger Thanks for sharing Buffalo 👍 👏
Fantastic video !
❤❤💯
I own an lcrX 22wmr so I don't know about the 22lr but,
Replace the vestigal front sight with the aftermarket fiber optic. 110% improvement and you'll never regret it.
The only thing I don't like about my gun is it's so light that sometimes I forget I've already got it in my pocket.
Mr. Buffalo, this was a great video. It was very informative and pleasant to watch. Truth be told, this kind of video is more valuable to me than all the shooting videos. Don't sell yourself short on your ability to do comparison videos. This is one of the best I have seen, ever. You said what needed to be said and left out all the fluff. As I am getting older, I am selling many of my guns. I have a Model 63 and that is one of the guns I will not sell. I would like to make a request and it is probably for another apples to oranges comparison. I had a S&W 351PD which is the S&W snub nose .22 magnum. I made a big error in judgment and sold it. As I said I am elderly now and a little recoil sensitive. I want a .22 magnum for a carry gun. The 351PD is my first choice but they are very hard to find and carry the big S&W price tag, so I am considering the Ruger LCRx in .22 magnum. If there is enough interest, a LCRx and 351PD comparison would be great. If you have other suggestions I am open to hearing them. Thanks again.
Thanks for the comment. That's some great feedback. I don't have a 351PD, I wish I did. I recently settled on the 351C because I couldn't find a PD. You probably already know this but the 351C is the double action only (hammerless) version of the 351PD. If I can ever get my hands on one I would be more than happy to do the comparison video just because the way you made the suggestion seems so sincere.
@@buffalosoutdoors Thanks for responding. In my opinion, the 351C and the 351PD are similar enough that a 351C and LCRx comparison would be interesting. The 351 is so nice and small and makes a great pocket gun. I am not big on inside or outside the waistband holsters and I am curious about the size difference between the 351 and the LCRx so I wonder how they would carry in a pocket and how they would handle. There is no denying the 351PD is a beautiful gun. Thanks again.
Thanks Buffalo 👍👍
Good comparison.
I don’t think you can go wrong with either. That lighter Ruger is going to be much easier to carry for any length of time, but the heavier S&W will feel much more solid shooting. My favorite revolver I own is the Ruger GP100 357 Magnum in SS with a 4” barrel and 7 shot cylinder. This S&W looks vet similar to it. So for aesthetics I will go with the Smith. But that blacked out tactical vibe is also vibing hard!
Hi buffalo good to see you
I have the Smith model 317 which weighs about 11 oz. Very light with a 3 inch barrel; but also very costly.
Just found your channel a couple days ago….keep up the good work 👍🏻
that smith 63 is the coolest gun its identical to the taurus 94 in alot of ways i loved that taurus until it wore out then i found as nice a gun but older the h&r 922
this got recommended quick
I have a 2nd gen pre lock 317 which is the air lite version of the model 63
I've always preferred Ruger revolvers largely based on the cylinder release mechanism. I'm a left-handed lover of revolvers and I'm able to use the Ruger-style "push-in" mechanism without much hassle. That said, this particular S&W has been calling to me and might make it into my collection anyway. Both great guns!
I think a more fair comparison is that Ruger vs. Smith 317, which has an aluminum frame rather than a steel one.
Great choice ! Way better purchase ! Ruger USA 🇺🇸
Thank you.
Thanks friend! Enjoyed it.
God bless all here.
I enjoyed your vid very much. I don't even have either gun. Lol..Now ya got me wanting a ruger. Lol
To bad Ruger put such a heavy trigger. I like the looks of the Ruger but, I would take the better trigger of the Smith. With 22LR I want to be able to put that round right on the money. A light trigger is a must in such a tiny gun.
I have to 63 and I’m fine with her!! I’m adamant on having a revolver that will last the test of time! The weight doesn’t bother me! I prefer a Real Revolver…..
I have the Ruger single ten and SW 617. I'm leaning on getting the LCRX 22'
Hi guys , I had the SW63, DIDNT care much for the trigger , and hated the way I had to exert so much pressure to drop spent cartridges on certain ammo brands, traded it , & now on the look out for the ( lcrx ) I have the lcr in .22-.22mag & .357, I had the .38 then traded up to the .357, I really wanted to like the SW , just did not like the exertion on spent casings, just my personal opinion, Thanks Buffalo, YALL be safe & GOD BLESS !!
It appears to me that depending on how the frame on the ruger is made it could be shorter than the smith when equipped with smaller grips.
They both look great. I would probably go Ruger just because of the price difference. I would feel bad mucking up an $800 gun, so I don't know that I would be able to enjoy it as freely.
I spent over 900 on a s&w 586 and I enjoy carrying it ccw and at range
Yes please man! My wife and I are looking at the lcrx and the ruger sp 101 in 22lr. This video came in at the perfect time. Thank you so much! The trigger and recoil for her is super important. And she likes the 101 recoil. How it’s non existent. And wants to know if the lcrx is also light recoil.
Ruger SP101 is 30 oz in weight, LCRx is 17 oz, so the recoil will be quite a bit lighter on the SP101, but keep in mind that with .22 LR the recoil will already be light on both. As Buffalo said, if you are going to carry all the time or on long trips, or concealed under light clothing, the weight difference might make a difference, otherwise I would pick SP101.
If she likes the SP101 get that for her, the lighter gun will move more as she pulls the trigger with the heavier trigger pulls especially at double action. The SP101 can be staged in double action just like you can with the model 63, I however am not sure if you can do that with the LCRx but even if you can the trigger is substantially heavier.
Good-looking wheel guns...
The LCR does have a key lock. Ruger was smart enough to hide it under the grip.
Great job thank you!👍🏽😀❤️🇺🇸
The difference for me, if those were kit guns, the Ruger is probably the one I’d carry, in case it got lost, because I think the Smith probably costs more.
Functionality wise, I would take either. I think the Smith has a little more prestige, but they’re both great revolvers, I’d be happy to own either.
Would have been nice to see you shoot them and compare accuracy. Good video.
Hey bubba - looks like a bit of difference in the forcing cones.
A 3 inch aluminum K frame with a 10 shot cylinder would be nice.
Cool. Thanks.
Despite all the 9mm micro hype, these two are still some of the hottest sellers. Makes ya think!
I just don't see any real advantage to carrying a revolver over something like a 365XL or 43X.
In this case, I don't think many people are buying these instead of a micro 9 as these are chambered in .22LR.
@@pewpewTN no bud, people buy .22 revolvers a lot.
thanks
