Played the game blind a couple years ago, and Dust himself quickly became one of my biggest comfort characters! It was one of those things where the moment he started talking, I knew I was gonna love him so much. Probably helped by Lucien Dodge’s excellent performance ❤️
Yup one of my favorites games also i admire how you resume the story (because when i did my video for the anniversary months ago, i ended doing a 1 hour video because i literally told all the story part by part + my opinion and some curious facts)
Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday Maverick, I like playing Dust too! Edit: That ending was beautiful. This might actually be my favourite video you've ever done.
First, happy birthday. Second, I really enjoyed this game too. I actually learned about the game from your let’s all those years ago. And I also recently played it and loved it. Mashing buttons is the best. Third, it genuinely caught me off guard seeing Amber lee conners, Xander mobus, and especially Justin Brinier in this game. As soon as I heard the pink bunny’s voice and when he ask for an autograph from a “famous hero” I just knew it was him. Finally, good luck with game development, hope it goes well.
Happy Birthday Maverick! Unfortunately, I can't attend live, but I'll definitely be watching when I get the chance! Edit: I'm actually able to watch live after all. Yay! Edit 2: That was beautiful...
Happy flipping birthday, Maverick! Again, you're really captivating me with your new rebrand. Keep creating your own field, and you'll definitely attract the attention of others. Speaking of, I think it's been about ten years since you entered the UA-cam business as the One-Winged Angel! It's been so long since you talked about your least favorite video game villains, Necron Moments, and the final boss of Super Adventure Island 2. And within that ten year period, you just kept improving. And here we are now. So, not only am I wishing you a happy 24th, but I'm also wishing you a happy 10th anniversary on UA-cam. Yours is a journey that's just beginning. *insert Duodecim credits music here*
Well sorry I got there late in its premier but now I'm going to watch what I missed, but so far it's an awesome video and I can see at least from the end of the video, why this one is a birthday special.... Amazing... HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRO! May God Bless You This Year!
Because of this review, i grabbed it physically since i don't do downloads. Late to the party so it set me back $150. Just started playing today, and am already at 30% complete. Can't put it down. Definitely one of my top 5 games of all time. Just wish they would do another castlevania (sotn) in this type of art style.
Happy Birthday Maverick. I agree with everything you said about Dust, it is truly a great masterpiece of a game and it's cool the game inspire you to go for your gaming career. If we do meet I would love to have you as one of my game developers as we love video games and animated movies. :) Also, I knew Dust feels like a Don Bluth film! XD
Happy late birthday, Maveric. Hope you enjoyed your birthday. I only got around to playing Dust back in 2019, a while after I had gotten some other games to play. Dust interested me out of curiosity and how cheap it was on PS Store. After playing it, I easily find it to be a great game I happily enjoy. And I do agree on those negatives you mentioned in the video. They annoyed me as well. Also, that Dance Party thing? Far as I know, the DJs are the one who composed the music for this game. I believe they were called "Duck Head"? I could be wrong on this, but it's something I noticed and wanted to bring up.
I'm surprised it's been over 6 years since I started watching your videos, based on the first time I heard you talk about this game on your (OLD) top10 vids
Decided to play though this game again recently for this first time in a while, because I never did end up getting the achievement for finishing the game on hardcore difficulty (man is it hard as nails). Regardless, it was a good reminder for how much I love this game. It was the first game I ever got on Steam, and it’s honestly one of my all time favourites as well. I just hope Dean decides to revisit this world some day for some kind of continuation. I remember hearing there was supposedly one more chapter after fighting Gaius that ended up getting cut due to time/budget reasons. It’s been nearly a decade, but fingers are always crossed.
@@urdeadnotbigsuprise7439 It was a very long time ago, so I can’t recall exactly where I heard about it (probably on a forum or something). As far as I’m aware the stuff that was cut never made it out of the initial planning stage, so unfortunately there isn’t anything in the way of footage or artwork to my knowledge. Though there are a couple of old test animation clips floating around from another project set in the same world that Dean made before he started on Dust.
@@starbit5065 Hmm, so it never made to concept stage huh? Then I assume that chapter was meant to set up a sequel. I know Dean is now working on an undisclosed project If his tweets are anything to go by, I just hope it's a sequel to Dust and not another MGS parody game, otherwise I will be dissapointed.
I played this game ages ago but its still so good. Definitely top 5 games ive ever played for me, and used to be my favorite as well (Also, happy birthday)
I Remember, the First Teaser, for the Game. It was in a German Nintendo Wii Magazine. The Creator Dean Dodrill, tried to Bring the Game to the then New Wii Ware, but the Game was to Big for the Wii Ware Service, so he went with XBOX 360. Many Years Later i got a 360 and Dust was on of the First Games i got for the System. Recently i got it for Switch, so Finally its on a Nintendo System
Happy birthday man! I'm a little late on watching this, but (pure usual) this was a fun watch. Happy to see one of my favorite content creators gush over there FGOAT.
Having beaten this game just the other day, I can finally say with full confidence that this game is, indeed, as wonderful as you make it out to be. The final boss is one of the most thrilling I've ever faced, and not just because he's the only genuinely good boss in the game. I haven't 100% everything tho, so I'll have to go back and do just that another day. Beyond that, I'm just glad to finally watch this whole video without worrying over spoilers anymore.
Too bad I couldn't watch this before to say happy birthday to you on the exact day! Apart from that, I knew that this game existed, but didn't know too much about it, so it was really interesting to hear you talk about it, I'll certainly grab a copy and play it myself when I can!
Absolutely LOVE this game...oh, shoutout to Ori & The Blind Forest, too. Both I share equally high love & praise for. Also, who knows, Dean Dodrill might actually wind up seeing this vid. After all, Dante Bosco was at Midwest Furfest (furry convention taking place in Rosemont, IL, in case you weren't already aware) back in 2019 as a Guest of Honor alongside Vivien Medrano, aka Vivziepop, the creator of "Hazbin Hotel" and "Helluva Boss." Really wish I wasn't as sick as I was that year, I'd have said hi to them...oh, and Malcolm from Channel Awesome. Anyway, I've rambled long enough. Dust: An Elysian Tail is an AWESOME game and I'm SO glad my friends (and The Quarter Guy) made me aware of this all-time great. Oh...and happy birthday, Maverick! ;3
1:24 *realizes that it's on sale* ...ughhh why haven't looked into this one yet?? (As someone who was fine with bloodstained on the switch, a metroidvania in 30 fps was _never_ an issue to me)
Hey bro happy b day I’ve been following you and your channel for almost as long as I can remember so I’d just like to say thx for all the years of great vids
I have to say this separate from my other comment... Fidget is my favourite video game character of all time! She's funny; she's adorable; she's actually USEFUL... and yeah, you said it: she's precious! LOVE HER SO MUCH!!!
Happy late birthday Maverick. One thing I would love to see if you plan on doing a highlights of your playthrough of Dust An Elysian Tale. That would be awesome especially if you include from episode 23. About 15 minutes and 54 seconds where you suplexed an airship and added RULES OF NATURE when you went to edit the playthrough.
on a somewhat related note (at least indie game wise), i really hope you talk about Bloodstained. Its the Castlevania revival we've been waiting for and i've been absolutely loving the hell out of it
I remember seeing a review of this game on toonami years ago and it blew me away. While I never beat it, I still really enjoyed my time with it. Sidenote, the Commander is played by Chris Guerrero (who did voicework for the abridged series dub of the Northstar).
I still remember just randomly finding this game via Free Games W/ Gold & immediately falling in love with it. Now I also own it on Steam & Switch. Also have a funny bit similar to your plot twist crash you recorded. First ever time I fought the final boss, the game SOFTLOCKED on the final hit. Neither me nor the boss would get back up to do the coup de grace part & I had to redo the whole fight. I wasn't even mad because I love that fight.
One thing that I need to mention is that Fuse is voiced by Omahdon, the same person who voiced Nazo from Sonic Nazo Unleashed. Just a little fun fact, since I was surprised when I found out about it.
Definitely was interested in this for a while now since I saw it on the Switch eShop, even if I'm not heavily into these kinds of games usually, but now I'm considering it more. And yeah, any game that manages to inspire a new game dev is good in my book. I had a similar thing with another game (Tho I've yet to do anything about that dream yet. Lol).
I played a trio of amazing indie games about 6 years back and this was my favorite and always stuck with me. I must go play again b4 I finish you video. (Other games were Valiant Hearts and Puppeteer)
7:27: As Maverick said earlier he talked about this game before his channels rebranding, so as such I did get spoiled on this game up to the final boss on certain details... But not the very ending. So I don't know what happens at the end, and other details in the middle of the game so now, I am ready for the adventure you took all those years ago....... Now to GET the game.... Somehow. Wish me luck on that. 🙂 felt like bringing it up for @BlackMageMaverick to know.
I loved this game. Yeah I actually played it after a couple of my friends kept on telling me about it and how good it was for 4 days straight. So I decided to play it and I'm glad I listened to my friends cause that game was awesome, and yeah Fidget is a precious cinnamon roll who must be protected at all costs.
Haven't watched the video yet... And this is already one my favourite video's you've done. *I FUCKING LOVE THIS GAME!!!!* Oh, uh, language around here... *I FLIPPING LOVE THIS GAME!!!!*
There are only 2 things that hold this game back from being my favorite indie title. The combat: I thought the sword combo's were really well designed - the way you can chain them together is AMAZING! But rest of the abilities were pretty lackluster. The magic is very spam-y, you just cast your choice of orb and then charge it with dust storm. There isn't really a optimal moment to use it or anything, just throw it in wherever. And then dust storm is pretty one note. Hold button. The stun state could have been an interesting twist, but the charge up time is way too long and you lose the buildup pretty quickly. I think I only ever came close to getting stunned by it once through 3 playthroughs. The aerial dust storm is a bit better than grounded, but still about the same. That combined with the enemies having a bit too much health at times really killed it for me. The other is the story. And I want to be clear; the acting was INCREDIBLE! I fully applaud the voice actors and the director for their execution. I LOVE the art! There are a lot of great side stories as well. But the core story was not well written. I can deal with the cliche story notes, like the amnesia opening and the self discovery journey, but they need to be well executed to work. Dust ALMOST had it right. There is a cohesive reasoning behind each story element, and there is a proper buildup to each plot reveal. But it all progresses too abruptly - The story opens up by sprinting through the first half of the hero's journey in about 30 minutes. Then it puts the whole story on pause while you play the game, hinting at the ending of it all, and then in the last 30 minutes it sprints through the second half of the hero's journey. That's really my only complaint about the story though, so pretty fantastic overall! Truthfully, it is an impressive feat for a novice game developer, and I'll always love the game for that! You can feel the passion that they had. It remains in my top 20 games list, but other titles have started to climb above it - A Hat in Time, The Ori games (which I was really excited got a mention in this video!), Tunic, and Risk of Rain are my top 5, Dust is shortly below them.
I actually got to trying out this game because of this review, and I had a lot of fun. I have gotten 114% now, just needing to get 4 stars on most trials. Definitely was a good time.
I remember playing a demo of this on Xbox and I always wanted to buy this game and see more of what the demo gives a peek at but I never did. It really looked like something special.
Will this indie game continue? Because I really love it!! This game is really a hidden gem, that I hope more people will play it! And dust will come back in a series to be continued!
I forgot this game was on the switch. Maybe now I can finally get the chance to play this game. Edit: I've officially gotten the game for the switch and started playing it. Edit (Again): I've officially beaten the game, I LOVED it and I REALLY want a sequel.
It’s good to see that people notice this game it’s so underrated I really wanted it to get a sequel
This is an INDIE game?! The visuals alone impress me more than the visuals of most AAA games do!
Almost like gritty realism isn’t the only way to wow an audience.
I know right!? This I pure art.
this game is super underrated, idk why no big UA-camrs have played it, it's not expensive, and it's so beautiful!
the gameplay is better than a lot of AAA games too.
Don’t tell that to Physconauts 2
Dust an Elysian Tail is one of my favorite games of all time and definitely my favorite Indie game and you only reinforce why I love the game so much
So in a nutshell Dust is basically a Cloud Strife with a more mystical reason for why
Played the game blind a couple years ago, and Dust himself quickly became one of my biggest comfort characters! It was one of those things where the moment he started talking, I knew I was gonna love him so much. Probably helped by Lucien Dodge’s excellent performance ❤️

Also dust is Hifumi and K1-B0's va and that's funny.
Oo! Cake! Lol

Bro, I'll be totally honest, you turned me on to this game, not sure when I will get it because of reasons and money but I'll try. Thx bro, thx.
Fidget is the most realistic companion because the responses and reactions she has is SO REALISTIC!

I remember almost fully investing in Dust’s attack stat when I played. He was stupid in how fast even the fat enemies would drop.
It’s been years since I last played this game on Steam. I should change that someday.
I just played this game for myself, and..... holy bananas, you weren't kidding. I think it might be the best indie game I've played since Undertale.
