The GBA version includes tons more elements from the books as you get further in, such as Teirm, Dras-Leona, the cult, the Twins, Jeod, etc. Oddly enough, it's probably the most faithful adaptation of the books that we've gotten so far; even if it still has a lot of differences, it includes way more book content than either the movie or the other games. It's a solid game, too, not a masterpiece but decently fun, so I wish it had gotten more attention from the fanbase than just being one of several almost-forgotten spin-off games for the lackluster movie.

@@BenjaMage Just a recommendation for a future video. I once wanted an obscure DS game called Avalon Code, which was about using a book to alter the properties of everything in the world. When I finally played it, though, that very selling point killed any enjoyment I could’ve had. I probably could’ve waited until your next video to suggest this, but I was suddenly reminded of Avalon Code of, by all things, the health bar in the DS version of Eragon; specifically, the background symbol showing just how far the bar could potentially go. Look up a screenshot of Avalon Code and you should see what I mean.
The gba version is actually pretty nostalgic to me. i played it before even watching the movie. i was actually pretty confused when angela, a character who permenantly joins your party in the gba game, had like..one scene in the movie, and then was never mentioned again

I'm surprised how well the GBA Eragon game was. It managed to join the X-Men Origins: Wolverine game in the category of licensed tie-in games that were better than the films they were based on.
Oh my god. I remember seeing someone play the GBA Eragon game when I was like 6 and thought “huh that looks kinda neat” but I never figured out what the game was until now that I’m in highschool.
The movie and games may not be very good, but props to them for giving the dragons anatomically-correct lizard ears! That.... sounds like an extremely minor detail, but you'd be surprised how infrequent it is to see them with correct ears.
I played the DS version in a DSi, and it was (at least at that time when I didn't have a PC) the most impressive game I had played. The combat was simple enough that a little boy like me could control it well. Also, the fact that weapons leveled up with each kill had me farming for hours and hours. A good thing about the prologue is that you can keep the items even when you are playing as Eragon later, so it's kinda useful. I really, really love the GBA game and it has a special place on my heart. It was my only game for a while because we didn't have much money, so I replayed it over and over, even without knowing anything about the Eragon franchise back then. I love how in your reviews you truly take advantage of the fact that your avatar is a mage heh
Why in the world are there not more dragon simulators or Nintendog style games with dragons? It would be awesome to not only raise dragons, but be able to play as them!
I too had a similar issue playing Resident Evil 7: Biohazard because the TV was right in front of a large window and there was so much glare on the screen that I couldn't see anything. Even if I maxed out the brightness in the options, I could see. I had to play the game on cloudy days or at nighttime, but I had since had a curtain placed in front of the window and now I can see perfectly fine.
And meanwhile there's AntDude who not only did a video for a bunch of different console SpongeBob games (As well as Legend Of The Lost Spatula for the Game Boy Color), AND did all the SpongeBob titles on GBA in a single video. And did it AGAIN with the titles on the DS.
I’ve never seen the movie or read the book but the film always stuck out in my mind for the fact the MPAA didn’t give it a rating until the day before it’s release (or whoever made the TV spots was feeling lazy)
I would recommend the books, at least if you like fantasy novels. I started reading them late in my highschool years, and I remember really liking them. It does pull a lot of inspiration from Star Wars and other such stories, but it does a lot of interesting things with the story.
I never read the full series of the books but I remember listening to an audio book version of the first book to fall asleep to growing up and I absolutely loved it. (though I certainly don't remember anything about the movie) Awesome video Black Mage!
Eh, the movie is a bastardized version of the book, so there's nothing worth remembering. But I recommend picking up the rest of the story. The first book is honestly kinda the weakest one.
the ds game holds a special place in my heart (shh I know) and the film is mildly enjoyable (even as a long time fan of the books) but this was really well written the first flying section in PS2 version is the only reason I want to play it (and I didn't know about the bts so thats cool) AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF THE PSP VERSION WTF my favourite magic spell in the DS game is... bone break the sound effect when used, the look of enemies (yeah the flying sections are a pain)... also there is a element of strategy with seeing groups of enemies (arrows) GBA Version looks cool and like playing as Arya for a little and you get to play with Katrina!! the time travel bit is great and the entire video was amazing

Man I loved the DS game and the PS2 one was solid enough. It’s weird just completely forgetting games like this probably because of the film doing very poorly. Also the GBA looks cool !
1:28 Months after this video, with you saying how the movie doesn't connect with the books that well, I think NOW is the time for a new film adaptation of the series to be done right, thanks to what I've scene of the new Dune movie comparing it to its cheesy 1983 adaptation, which to me wasn't that good, which the new dune was WAY better and I have a feeling it connected with the books better..cant confirm that but I wouldn't be surprised if I found out later it did better at conveying the souce material then the 1983 version ever did, and the fact that both the new dune, AND the new Spiderman Across the spideverse, is being done in multiple parts, plus the MCUs inspiring ways of making there movies, especially if they are two partners like infinity war and end game, etc. I think it's time to get started on making the series, and this time, STICKING to it's source material, like MCU, MCU films compared to other superheroe movies was more on point in it's adaptations of each superheros with some liberties here and there. What do you all think?
Funny enough, I went through the franchise backwards. First I saw the movie, then played the GBA version of the game, and after realizing, that the game is more after the book than the movie, I started reading the books. Also when I was in school, me and my friend used to trade games for a few weeks and after finishing them, we would trade back. And boy did this game went through a lot of hands because everyone wanted to play it ^^
I found this video researching the GBA game because I found it mixed in with my GBA games, have no idea when I bought it, no idea where it came from, no idea that it was a book or movie and was trying to figure out what I have.
I actually played a bit of the Percy Jackson & The Olympians The Lighting Thief game on DS. It, too, is an RPG. Though, with map sections instead of a standard overworld. How did I play a bit of it? Think I was lent someone's DS back in days of yore. Either way, I must say, I never thought I'd see a video on something like this. Young me did not care at all about Eragon (probably was too young to appreciate it and other books of a similar caliber) but I am genuinely curious about the GBA version now. Probably won't play it but who knows?
You created a bootstrap paradox! (I think that's what it is anyway). You told your past self about you knowing others made by amaze, but you only knew because your future self told you about it. There's no original origin.
Those Sims games were wildly genius. Especially Urbz and the PSP game. Just seducing my neighbor while investigating her murders (and selling off the secrets) and also while fighting off zombies as my wack-a-mole part time job in order to decorate my haunted house? It's like they just took everything as far into insanity as it could go, then laughed, and counted that as their first tiny babysteps. Finding out they made another GBA game? I clicked your bell. Well done.
In the DS game, you get the red sword (I'm blanking on the name and I'm upset about it) at the end of the snowy mountain level and if you level the sword up enough you gain the ability to dual wield the sword and the hunting knife. Also spells do work like herbs but they can level up just like your weapon
I presume the red sword you're referring to is Zar'roc. Also dual wielding Zar'roc with the hunting knife sounds amazing; I might have to play more of this game after all.
I really wish you'd gotten to the bit where you get magic in the DS version, it's still touchscreen symbol drawing type gameplay but it's still cool, and feels satisfying to use. Of all games in the world, this is one of the first I ever beat in my life. Ahh the janky memories.
I remember playing a mobile/Java Eragon movie years ago. I yhink it was an interesting beat 'em up with diverging paths, where you obtained new item/skill upon completing a stage.
I did actually really like the PC version of the game, I felt like I had a lot of power doing combat with all the different spells and the level design was decent, the eggs were hard (for me) to collect, the level variety was good, the soundtrack was great but also I was a kid and this was one of my first games ever so maybe this won't be good looking back But I don't want my good memories to be ruined
When I first saw this video and we got to the ds and gba games, I was thinking "You know. This music reminds me of that Narnia GBA game my brother had" then you had your Amaze Entertainment discovery and I got curious. I looked it up and yep, there they were
Lol, nice to see you used the Bootstrap paradox while in this video. Since you said the same stuff to your past self as your future self told your present self and it endlessly repeats itself.
Yeah, it is pretty damn similar. But it's still different enough by the end that I feel like that it's become it's own thing for the most part. Especially with the subplots in the story.
Actually, there are a few psp games that have the same text issues as the PSP version. Idk how often it happens, but it happens to me specifically in the psp BlazBlue games (which, if you havent heard of it, really good fighting game series made by the guilty gear/dragon ball fighterz/persona 4 arena devs)
I actually grew up playing the DS Version of Eragon and never beat it. After this I busted my way through the game in one sitting. It was fine, but I’m hoping to find a GBA copy.
Books: top notch content, loved em Movie: why is his hair a different color Other content: bruh why Man I gotta reread the books, maybe they have them at my local library
I tried playing the GBA version years back. I had borrowed a copy from a friend. Unfortunately, I didn't get very far. I was somehow in a glutched state every time I tried to get past a scripted encounter. The GBA version was a game that I regret not beating.
That meter thingy in the game boy reminds me of the meter thingy in my favorite Xbox 360 game Blue dragon boy blue dragon you have to put it in a certain position or else your character would a magic spell is going to go in the wrong position which is not really bad it's just they're going to go at this time instead of the time the game wants you to hit nothing too major like nothing bad happens it's just your character is going at this time it's not this one
The spell this time is "1.21 Jiggawatts!"
Which yes, I intentionally pronounced "gigawatts" incorrectly for the sake of the reference.
...back to the future on snes?

When I first saw this video and we got to the ds and gba games, I was thinking "You know. This music reminds me of that Narnia GBA game my brother had" then you had your Amaze Entertainment discovery and I got curious. I looked it up and yep, there they were
13:47 Let the bodies hit the... FLOOOOOOOOOOR!!!
I just finished doing the GBA Version of Eragon, it's fun but sometimes the difficulty can be tough
Good dragon sim when?
It still bugs me that it's not pronounced as "e-rag-in".
also i really wanna own the VHS of this. late VHS releases are fascinating.
My boy keeps mentioning Devil May Cry and it was in the old intro. Retrospective when Civvi-er Ben?
You think those Eragon PS2 cutscenes were weird?
Look up the race intro sequences for Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2012.
They're acid trips.
I havent read any of the books, only audio reading on the first, but it was during school...awkward
I wasn't expecting to hear that the GBA port was both more accurate to the book and an actual decent game
After playing Monster Tale, I gotta listen to more of Ian Stocker's work. Monster Tale's OST was good.
Lol, nice to see you used the Bootstrap paradox while in this video. Since you said the same stuff to your past self as your future self told your present self and it endlessly repeats itself.
...that ending recommendation gives respect
GBA was the most faithful adaption, it’s great!
Me after the first ten seconds: “Oh Christ, we’re in for a treat.”
Oh i see you are reviewing some Star Wars games.
Lmao. Yup Eragon is basically Medieval Dragon magic star wars
@@DarknessXER like you would not believe.
Hah.
Yeah, it is pretty damn similar. But it's still different enough by the end that I feel like that it's become it's own thing for the most part. Especially with the subplots in the story.
@@MoostachedSaiyanPrince my favorite parts were those involving Roran. Him still being a glorified badass without any magic involved was cool as heck
Hey Benjamin, would you ever cover smt?
No it's satanic and he's a good christain so he doesn't play satanic games. Maybe Persona tho.
@@krimsonkatt but you kill demons, and also persona is not very wholesome.
32:43 And now I wanna see a Steven Universe/Eregon crossover
I did a book report on this back in high school
Holy shit I can't believe Eragon on GBA has the same combo system as Lisa The Painful that's kinda fucking awesome
Moral of The Story: Eragon and The Sims are the exact same thing
At least they did get the wings right...
I only played the DS version. I wasn't exactly entrhalled.
thanks for the video
Actually, there are a few psp games that have the same text issues as the PSP version. Idk how often it happens, but it happens to me specifically in the psp BlazBlue games (which, if you havent heard of it, really good fighting game series made by the guilty gear/dragon ball fighterz/persona 4 arena devs)

Achievement Unlocked
I actually grew up playing the DS Version of Eragon and never beat it. After this I busted my way through the game in one sitting. It was fine, but I’m hoping to find a GBA copy.
Books: top notch content, loved em
Movie: why is his hair a different color
Other content: bruh why
Man I gotta reread the books, maybe they have them at my local library
I wish their were more movies
I tried playing the GBA version years back. I had borrowed a copy from a friend. Unfortunately, I didn't get very far. I was somehow in a glutched state every time I tried to get past a scripted encounter. The GBA version was a game that I regret not beating.
you should get the percy jackson video game from the DS and review it if you were to encounter it on Ebay in the future
Wow , they really believed Eragon could've been a huge franchise , how pitiful.
That meter thingy in the game boy reminds me of the meter thingy in my favorite Xbox 360 game Blue dragon boy blue dragon you have to put it in a certain position or else your character would a magic spell is going to go in the wrong position which is not really bad it's just they're going to go at this time instead of the time the game wants you to hit nothing too major like nothing bad happens it's just your character is going at this time it's not this one
is the PC and X360 versions the same as the PS2 version?
Far as I'm aware, they're largely the same, with minor differences.
@@BenjaMage disappointing haha.
I remembered the ps2 game, only played 1st level, it was a bit disappointing
