So the original Alan Scott was inspired by a train lantern and Chinese mythology, Hal Jordan from popular sci-fi media, and now Leonard Lewis inspired by trees as a recurring element in mythology.... I'm actually impressed by what people can do with the concept
Next Green Lantern will be empowered by traffic lights!
The Tangent GL is just that, a lantern carried by a woman to revive dead people to finish some unfinished business.

I know this is supposed to be "Just Imagine Stan Lee creating Green Lantern" but the backstory sounds more like "Just Imagine Stan Lee creating Swamp Thing"

As someone who is working on a doctorate in political science, I resent your statement that we'd just randomly touch mist we know nothing about. First we'd ask it what political party it identifies with on a 7-point scale from Strong Republican to Strong Democrat, THEN we'd touch it. Got to get that partisanship variable first.
You are forgetting non liberal/conservative parties, like the GREEN PARTY, the Libertarian party (that is basically diet Republicanism), the independent parties, and the transhumanist party. Yes, there is a transhumanist party, and it isn't popular.

"Where do legends come from? What if they're all based on facts?" You know, as fun as Marvel/DC's mythology mishmash where all legends are true can be, it sort of implies that humans are the most dull, unimaginative species in the universe.
starwarsnerd100 well, a lot of religions are often derrivative of each other. Similiar concepts like hell and heaven and even gods like zues and odin are earily similiar in one way or another
person mistakenly takes LSD and thinks a frog is imparting the meaning of life and the universe to them. 1000 years later, there is an entire religion about a frog god that controls the universe. true story.
+MDC SURWBY I disagree. For one, even though I said "all mythology being true implies humans are boring", it's not something ever brought up in the comics. I doubt the writers were thinking "I'm going to include Atlantis, ancient aliens building the pyramids, and Zeus fighting Odin in this story as part of my thesis on how humanity is boring", they thought it would be fun. But more importantly, I don't think your "make muggles look dull" thing is something comics even do. True most superheroes are in some way "above" humanity, but they usually also have human supporting characters, mentors like Alfred, Aunt May, Lois Lane, Mary Jane, ect.

I like to imagine Stan Lee's version of Atrocitus as a Japanese Oni. That would be so cool!
And his version of Sinestro could be an immortal demon who helped inspire the concept of Beelzebub in the Christian pantheon.
You know what would really be interesting? Just Imagine Stan Lee writing stories about the actual DC Universe.

Does anyone besides me want the "Just Imagine Stan Lee" costumes as alternates in Injustice 3?
I'd love to see these characters make some kind of appereance in live action in some capacity. Even just as a background reference when, say, they're peeking at parallel universes in The Flash.
Officially, the Just Imagine Universe was labelled as Earth 6 in Multiversity, so it IS canon in the Multiverse. Sooner or later someone HOPEFULLY will come back to this setting.
Since they already did Crisis would love the final fight of Flash to be Reverse Flash gathering every Rogue ever to face Every Flash from teh Multiverse John Fox, Max Mercuty, Mas y Menos....even Bizzaro Flash..(the Flab)
I mean, on one hand, an archaeologist saying all that stuff would probably get many suspicious eyes on them in a normal scenario.

But now bringing in Stan Lee to do DC stuff.
Stan Lee creating Green Lantern is probably my favorite of the Stan Lee creates the DCU.
Sure it has almost nothing to with the original concept. But the origin, look, and powers are all very imaginative, and is probably the one that could most easily stand on it's own and not be labeled a rip-off.
Also Professor Lewis seems to be more interested in anthropology then archeology.
I agree. The only thematic weakness is the tenuous link between "tree of life" > "lantern", but the visual design is decent if a bit bland, and the character as a concept is pretty solid with a lot of directions it could have been taken.
Archeology is a subfeild of Anthropology....

Wow, Professor Lewis' speech on Archaeology is pretty much the exact opposite of Indy's from The Last Crusade. And I'm a little disappointed Linkara didn't add in the clip.
Times like this I wish Linkara watched Legends of Tomorrow so that we could get cutaways to Damien Dahrk from that show.

He didn’t outright destroy any ancient ruins in the course of the story, that actually puts him ahead of a TON of fictional archeologists.
This is weirdly reminiscent of the earth 2 green lantern origin, especially the whole mother nature origin

I think the student/teacher is a twist on the Carroll Ferris is Hal Jordan's boss dynamic. Can't wait to see Cathy in a purple skin tight outfit.
Also, Cathy may just be the best villain of this Just Imagine series. She's intelligent enough for surveillance, blends in well, isn't vain or crazy and puts two and two together. I wish she survived or revived.
Now's the perfect time for Stan Lee to show us how he envisioned The Spectre!

honestly, even the iffy ones of these (superman mostly) are pretty cool, and I'd love if more was done with them. Stan Lee still has a lot of creative ideas, even if his writing hasn't aged the best

I was a little surprised you didn't comment on how he looked like a Green Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen, but hey, only so many jokes and references based on his appearance and new origins could be squeezed in a single episode.
Also, I find it funny how in StarGate, Atlantis didn't sink in the ocean--it flew across space to a planet in a distant galaxy ... and then proceeded to sink THERE. Of course.

Given that they're both based in mythology, I expect that GL and Wonder Woman could make for regular allies in this continuity, and each could flesh out the mythos of the other (for example, Wonder Woman's background suggested that Manco Capac was a truly supernatural figure which contrasts with Yggdrasil's story).
Hope to see more of these soon. I recently reread the Just Imagine Justice League story, and I thought it was pretty good.

*It's about magic and legends, monsters and myths!* While that may sound silly in our world, in the DC Universe, that kind of stuff happens all the time, so I wouldn't mock someone who went into archaeology because of the sheer coolness factor of discovering a superpowered dinosaur in some ancient ruins, because that can actually happen.
I think this is a story where the hero didn't have to do anything. Darrk hired both a college student spy and a mercenary group, AND eventually included a giant robot in there as well, but gave none of the parties any information about each other, leading to the mercenaries shooting who the college student was supposed to tail, the robot crushing the college student, the mercenaries turning on their employer as soon as they got what they wanted, and everyone but the hero and villain dead at the end. ...Just saying that there was very poor motivation and direction in this workforce, and the end result likely would have resulted whether he received powers or not...
Honestly? As corny as all the books Stan Lee made for this line were, I'd love to see their return. Update them with more modern storytelling sensibilities, maybe alter the characters a bit, and they'd honestly be a pretty awesome elseworld.
The only thing I don't like about one shots is that when you start liking them you later remember that they are just one shots and there isn't going to be a continuation. Also, this comic seems like a mix of Green Lantern and Swamp Thing.
I'm kind of surprised there was no Dr Manhattan reference that's what I immediately thought of from his design

This is pretty nice, though I like Aquaman the most. Batman is second. But overall I can see this being a great comic series. Imagine him fighting enemies like undead skeletons or dark elves, hell maybe even a yellow lantern. I love these alternate heroes which makes me wonder what would happen if the creator of all of DC superheroes redid marvel characters.

I reread all these issues a couple years ago and I think this one still holds up. Lewis really feels like a DC protagonist since he has his life entirely together and needed very little prodding to become a hero. Plus I loved Dave Gibbons art here.

After watching Linkara's reviews of "Imagine Stan Lee Creating DC" I bought Volume 1 to read the whole stories and I LOVED it! My favourites were Wonder Woman and Batman. Good to see him reviewing another one.

This episode had some really good jokes in it!
Also, rather surprised the comic didn't end with narration to the effect of "and so, the Green Lantern soars off into the night... a night unlike any other!" Would've been a nice bookend.

I actually enjoyed this comic a lot, even though EVERY LITTLE NARRATION BOX GOING "HMHM, THIS IS JUST A NOOOOOORMAL THING" MADE ME DIE. PLEASE. THEMATIC REPETITION IS ONE THING… THIS? THIS KILLED ME. Linkara pointed it out wayyyyy after it had already become annoying to me. But still, otherwise a fine comic. I enjoyed it, better than some of the other comics with Stan Lee reimagining DC heroes.
