I’m with you…I just don’t get it…The seats in this are very uncomfortable, it shifts terrible, and feels like it doesn’t have power at certain RPM’s. I guess if you are rock crawling at 3 mph it’s ok, but anything else, it’s very uncomfortable overall…and the rear disc brakes….for $50,000???

I actually really like drum brakes in the rear. My 2012 TRD Sport tacoma has drum brakes. Had it since it was brand new and I have over 200K miles and still on the original drums. I think they just last alot longer.
That’s because they don’t do anything. That’s why they last forever. 2015 owner here. Warped every set of front rotors I had over 100k miles from normal usage.
Tacoma IMO one of the best looking mid size trucks has one of the largest markets for modifications insanely reliable and cheap to maintain And for the 2022 series its finally catching up technology wise, (larger infotainment, 360 camera, etc.)
Without even watching the video. Yes it’s a better truck than Chevy. It’s all about quality. Chevy Ford and Jeep don’t live up to Toyota’s reliability and quality
I’m a Toyota guy since I was a kid , BUT I went in with an open mind to purchase a new midsize truck this year and test drove ALL the midsize trucks and walked away with a 2021 Tacoma TRD ORDC 4x4 with LED head lights and fog lamps top of the line premium & tech pkg , in a automatic and I can’t say enough about the quality , fit and finish to this truck it is just well built , I take my hat off to the Toyota engineers they did a remarkable job on this Tacoma , now with 12,000 miles on the ODO I love it even more than the day I bought it brand new . Sure the camera quality on the screen could be better if you really wanted it to but I absolutely love the perfect balance between analog and digital here in this set up.
I've gone back and forth on Taco vs ZR2. Both are solid, but the nod goes to Toyota primarily due to long-term reliability. I've had GM trucks and enjoyed them, but constantly repairing/replacing parts especially north of 100k miles real.
my favorite part is when you turn from a stop and it down shifts even when ur pressing the gas more ... and then eventually up shifts and then down shifts again LOL this truck is the definition of trash

Well, not even having two tin cans with a string would be a definite deal-killer for me, Joe! Just kidding. I continue to be impressed with the evolution of the Tacoma TRD in recent years and, overall, this one would not disappoint me. If I had a passenger sitting in the back, I'd advise them to get over it as far as connectivity is concerned. Very nice review.
When is International gonna return? The Scout and Travel all were bulletproof and semi-stylish in a county fair kind of way. PTO free factory option. 👍
Good Morning Joe, I have a 2020 Tacoma TRD PRO other than the cool electric lime green everything is the same. Toyota still has not added back the driver grab bar, have added one to mine. I believe new for 2022 are the aluminum upper control arms adding more caster and this suspension sits an extra half inch higher than 2021 and older TRD Pro’s.
The rear drums are reliable and in the back with mud, rocks, branches, etc... they make sense. Sometimes older tech is better. In this case for anything that goes off-road the drums are simpler and proven. Being enclosed makes sense.

Totally agree, you know Toyota always behind technology; look at the tundra they now have twin turbos when all other makes already been having them for a while. However, the passenger charging ports are not a deal breaker at least for me, specially for a midsize off-road truck (maybe a sedan would make more sense). Because is a midsize truck and passenger is not what they were made specifically for.

I'm all about the off-road model because you get a lot for what you get but if you got some extra money to play with I would definitely get the pro... All the tacomas hold their value good but those pros my God you can drive them 60,000 miles and sell them for the same price you bought it for
No new features on the base trims for the past two or three years.. that means we are definitely getting a new generation.. as soon as next year.. the lease for my 2020 Taco is up 04/23 hopefully it'll be out by then..

The 3.5L is way lacking in power and the transmission is always hunting for gears. It’s absolutely horrible on the interstate. IMO

There was also the "S" Joe on the gear shifter to manually open the valves for acceleration just so you know. The tundra has it too.
I love that color. Mine is just plain a silver. Joe there is no fake hood scoops if you have some power tools.

It needs the 10 speed, the 6 speed is a dog and gear hunts or lugs. I drove the 6 speed stick and it felt so much better.
