      Congrats dude! The Tacoma has a special place in my heart because I first learned to drive on my dad’s 1996 MT SR5. He still has it with 355,000 miles and it’s his daily driver. Great trucks for the money.

    I’m 5’7” and own a 20 SR5 double cab long bed 4x4. The seating position is very different than my fleet owned Silverado work truck, that feels like siting in a kitchen table chair in comparison, way more upright. I like the cabin setup and I have two young kids in the back (it’s nice that they’re always within reach) but I can see how anyone larger than me or people who want to haul adults in the back would not like this cabin. Great review and I dig the silly unique trd colors even though I’m boring and got Magnetic grey metallic on my Tacoma.

      In light of today’s vehicle shortages and how dealerships are price gouging, do you mind if I ask if you got a fair price for your 4Runner?

    • @dtlusk24
      @dtlusk24 2 роки тому

      @@bmack918 soo true, it was sticker priced which was ridiculous to begin with I think. My buddy dealer inventory Mgr orders for my local toyota dealership. He found 4 runner that i wanted on the boat from Japan . We eliminated all the extra pricy options bigger rims (hate those) privacy roll cover for storage ect. And the dealer tried to tack on 1600.00 extra mandatory fabric interior cleaner, 🙄 😒 but he made it show I put my request in before it started. So out the door I paid $40,500 for my nautical blue sr5 4×4 with tan interior. Love it, but shew.... my HD duramax kills this thing in mpg. Their are dealers that will make it only MSRP price only but have to do some digging to avoid the scum bags doing market adjustment stickers.

    All of the reviewers complaining about the seating position in a Tacoma. It’s been that way for decades. Get over it!!!! It’s still one of the best selling trucks. I’m 6’4” and have no problems in my Tacoma. I’d rather drive my Tacoma over my F450 work truck or our Lincoln.

    The cab is the exact same size as the 2005. I had a 2012 TRD Off Road. I am 6'3 and I could never get comfortable and the seating position is brutal. I like Toyota and would get one again if they ever actually change the size of the cab and went with a turbo. I live in Wyoming and drive at elevation a lot and since going to the Ranger turbo it is night and day better than NA engine at elevation. Mostly I am just happy mid size options are now available and I think it will push Toyota to really improve the Tacoma.

      The engine options for the Tacoma are definitely underwhelming. Always hear good things about the ecoboost in the Ranger and GM even offers a diesel in the Colorado/Canyon. EVs will eventually take over, so maybe it is not work the R&D spend at this point. My guess it Toyota goes turbo 4 cyl. in the meantime.

    Let’s be honest, nobody buys this to be the fastest (0-60), the most comfortable (body-on frame), the highest tech (JBL?), or for any other spec-sheet dick-measuring. People buy the Tacoma because it’s a straightforward, no gimmicks truck that can get you anywhere AND back, last longer than your grudge for a cheating ex, and hold it’s value like you hold on to the “glory days” of high school.

    I have a semi bare bones Tacoma from 2016 I bought brand new. It doesnt even have 4 wheel drive. But im not an off roader of any kind, and I have not been put in a position to where I wish I had one in the 6 years Ive owned mine.
    Truthfully, unless you're a full time contractor where you would need an 8 foot bed, youre not going to find a better pick up. Its easy to drive, its small enough to squeeze through tighter spaces, its easy to park too. It even has the ability to get up and go when you put your foot down. And the fuel mileage isnt a nightmare either. Its a well balanced practical truck when you dont buy a big package version like this. Im only saying this in case someone is reading comments while theyre truck shopping

    Watching this after the new Tacoma has been announced. That new TRD pro is wild. A very well equipped Baja truck that is no doubt fun to drive, as well as reliable being a Toyota. People are complaining about the hybrid power train I guess forgot Toyota has been making the Prius for like 20 years….
    But even after seeing the new one, being in the market for a new truck. Have a 50k budget (even though that new one looks like it’s gonna start at around 60k before markups)
    I think I like this truck better, it’s the last of a dying breed. Just a good old leaf spring, no frills, off-roading reliable truck. I plan on keeping this truck for 20 years. I know for a fact this generation of Tacoma will last that long.

    Good review and that was awesome I want one in that color. The good thing about crawl control and MTS like you said mimics a front locker is that it won’t give you steering issues like a front locker would. You can’t turn as good with a front locker on, also no human can do what crawl control does by applying the brakes individually to each wheel and sending power. The LX600 is becoming a grocery getter now, it’s not off-road oriented even though it has crawl control, low ground clearance and poor approach and departure angles makes it soccer mom car now not an off-roader. The best off-road vehicles from Toyota are the Tacoma and 4Runner, I just wish they kept making the FJ cruiser and that would be a 3rd option.

    If you don't care about breaking down on the road, or don't care about your truck not lasting or holding value, then buy anything else other than a Tacoma; that is where it really shines. All the little things that the other trucks have, you can buy aftermarket for the Tacoma. Yes Toyota sucks for not giving us more in the truck with the insane price tag, but the Truck lasts and is reliable.

    I have a Limited, that is all I could find in 2016. I still love it! Does anyone think it would be worth getting an aftermarket locker and lift since you cannot find a TRD PRO? No idea the cost.

    Like your true review of how you need to be small to fit inside...seems each time I ever tried to climb in a Taco, only 6'0... I smacked my head getting in. On the OFF road portions, truly a no contest, but you have to get there. That price for basically a squashed old trend interior needs improvement, paying for discomfort as a daily driver...not worth it, and boy do you pay... Going to need to be a helluva redesign, and they must have something special coming. It is however, iconic, a Taco turns heads, regardless of the small person interior issues

    Thank you for sharing a great review. Love the color. That back seat, when someone has a rear-facing child usually between 3 to 5 years of age, is likely not possible, unless the driver passenger seat is pushed forward, loosing that front passenger unless they are short. Forward facing children in booster seats would be fine. Thanks again. Keep safe!

    Love the video, but how many ads does UA-cam need to put on a 23 minute video? It's like they're forcing you to subscribe to their ad-less version.

    If it wasn't for the world's most uncomfortable seating position, I would have ended up in a Tacoma instead of my ranger. Btw that color is awesome!

    Seat Jackers help tremendously for the seating position. Also 4:88 gears and a ECU tune wakes this truck up.

    Hey, you probably don’t still have the Tacoma trd pro, but the next time you are able to get your hands on a Tacoma, do you think you could fold the rear seats flat, and measure the height from them to the ceiling? I haven’t been able to find anything online

    Ryan, Around 22:22 you show us the LX 600 and explain its limitations under comparable conditions. It got me thinking,🤔 if only Toyota made a slightly less fancy version of the LX with more practical styling, better approach and departure angles, a full suite of locking differentials .... oh wait, they do. Maybe the same wild and crazy guys on the Toyota Board who just graciously bestowed the GR Corolla upon us will do the same with the GR Land Cruiser. We can always hope 🤩

    • @moloono1
      @moloono1 2 роки тому +2

      That’s an interesting take on the LX. I bet they could do something like an SR5 version made for off-roading.

      @@moloono1 There are limitless UA-cam videos from around the world of various Land Cruiser models as they are equipped for different countries. The new Land Cruiser 300 Series is the model the new LX is based upon. In some markets you can get that new Land Cruiser with all the off-road gear I listed and the same old school 4.0 V6 currently sold in the 4Runner. The price is in the low $60,000 range. To be fair, the top spec GR Land Cruiser with the turbo V6 would cost as much as the LX 600. We will have to see how the new Sequoia copes with Ryan's course.

    Awesome video! Now go back and do the same trail with your 4Runner again! In fact you should always use the 4runner as a side by side comparison in each video. Lol, don’t listen to me though, I’m just a 4runner owner who lives too far from the trails. I have an itch that needs to be scratched.

    I am so conflicted on trucks. I'm looking to buy a midsize truck anywhere from 2016 - 2022, price isn't really an issue for me. My problem is that I'm 6'6" and I want a truck that is well balanced with both on the highway and off road. I've been looking at Tacoma's due to their reliability but for highway driving I'm unsure. I'm also interested in the Jeep Gladiators (long term reliability is questionable) and Nissan Frontier. I work remote so no daily commutes. The truck would be used for typical home improvement uses, going to camp sites off the beaten path to remote / dispersed camping and lake sites hauling a kayak and fishing gear. But for the long road trips I need some comfort due to the travel from Kentucky to say New Mexico or Montana on adventures. Is there other Tacoma packages that is better suited for this over the TRD Pro? I don't plan to ever rock crawl/climb. Rather its forest roads, from easy to moderate. Nothing extreme since I do a lot of this solo.

    Why do reviewers harp on the autonomous nonsense? I make my money by traveling and rent cars constantly. I've seen most of what's out there and man am I so happy when a car just lets me drive without blinking at me and shaking the seat whenever I'm in rush hour traffic, much less trying to override my driver inputs.

    agreed the interior is tiny. It’s smaller than our current 2021 rav4’s interior. Different vehicles, I understand body on frame vs unibody. The great thing about the Tacoma’s is that they hold their value years down the road.

    it's strange how big major manufactures designing their interiors looking like 80's scifi film, box tacked on box (infotainment with vents) while they can print out plastic and foam anything they want... i guess it takes more time and gets more expansive to make integrated design

    Suspension is 0.5” higher front and back for 2022 over 2021. Previously it was 1.0” higher only in front over the regular Tacomas. So 1.5” front and 0.5” rear increase is over the regular 2022 models. Ground clearance doesn’t change and is same on all Tacomas.
