My wife won't think it makes sense if I buy it just for me...and she's right, but us car nuts don't need things to make sense when it comes to our vehicles.
In the next 2 years I’ll be buying a new vehicle. The Tacoma seems to be one of the smarter choices I can make. Also shout out raitis rides, your my fav/the best UA-cam channel for car reviews.
The New Nissan Frontier Pro4x leaves this thing in the dust! Toyota needs to give the new Tacoma the treatment it gave the new Tundra and then maybe it can compete. Great job as usual Joe and Lori!

Can’t go wrong with the proven Tacoma, but I’m looking at the Frontier Pro 4x because it looks more modern and interior is much better. The Tacoma might go right back into 1st place with the upcoming redesign, but for 2022… Frontier Pro 4x
Had a Tacoma for 3 years never breaks down, just change oil, still rides nice only thing to worry about are the excessive mods you will want to add on. Nissan quality has gone down some and I use to own a Z and it was great but they need to re earn consumer trust, another thing is the Tacoma back seats fold flat and it’s basically a trunk at that point super useful.

VOODOO Blue looks good but I will take one in Lunar Rock just love that color. Great job like always Lori 👏🏻 👍🏻. Question Joe! Why Lori does not ride with you on the On Throttle segment. Or or let her take the wheel sometimes. That would be cool.
For small/mid-size trucks, Tacoma is king for a reason. They're the best. not in ergonomics, technology, performance and flashiness. But where it matters. Reliability. Reputation. They also looks the best. So to conclude, if you are going to lease, lease a Pro 4X or even go lease a wrangler/Gladiator. But if you plan on keeping it a long time, buy a Tacoma,.
Hi Joe, love the Toyota Tacoma but even though it may not be luxurious, love how what Toyota did. Thank you Lori, you're the Cqmera's Disciple these angles are stunning!
I have heard the reason why they kept the drum brakes is because it doesn't get rocks stuck in it like disc do while off road and the stopping distance differences wasn't enough to warrant the change to disc. Lastly the drum brakes last much longer than disc brakes so that's a nice money saver.
The Frontier 310 hp sounds great, but my 2006 Frontier burned me bad ($5K) with the bad transmission oil cooling design. Still holding a grudge. Got me a 2020 Tacoma. happy as can be

Great job Joe & Lori as always. For the difference in money, I'd go with an F-150 with the 2.7 or a Silverado 5.3 1500 LT every time! Much more comfortable, better leg room etc.... worth a few extra $$$ in my opinion.
I disagree I like the smaller truck in the Tacoma & it's extremely proven. Probably have less problems in the long run compared to the Chevy/GMC But if you're not going to keep it that long yes them Chevys are nice. My buddy has the GMC Sierra 1500 Z71. It's a pretty badass truck but I would rather have the Tacoma even if both of them were the same price easier to drive easier to park both look very good so. 2 Each his own lol
Love the TRD Off Road in the long box! This was the truck I wanted but are not available in Canada. Had to settle for the Sport TRD DCLB 4X4 instead. Still love the Sport tho. The New Frontier looks really good. Competition is good.
I really did like my Tacoma the brief time I had but the new Nissan is way better in my opinion. The Taco is just too out dated in so many ways to get it over the Nissan and with the next Ranger on the horizon they better make some big changes to stay in the game.
The new Frontier has the slight edge at the moment. It’s got the new hotness in design philosophy and the main draw is that it has a much better transmission than what the Tacoma has. Now I do expect Toyota to change that very soon here if they put the 10 speed in the new Tundra into the 2023 Tacoma update. However, I’m not loving the design of the next Tacoma based on the spy photos we’ve seen so far. I actually like the new Tundra design, but they took all the worst bits from that and brought it over to the Tacoma where it just doesn’t look right. The rumored hybrid power train could be a big deal though given that the fuel economy in the midsize segment is still not great. If you can get close to Maverick Ecoboost numbers in a true midsize body on frame truck, that could be something. Edit: Oh yeah, and the Tacoma still has drum brakes on the rear while the Nissan does not.
It's amazing how the Tacoma with drum brakes and other unchanged items over the years manage to increase the retail price, the profit margin I'm sure is very good. Awesome review as always Joe
Collect the front grille Nissan badges in the seat back pocket LOL 😆 Love the Voodoo blue , and I especially love that longer 6’ bed configuration, much more useful and practical for MY needs . I wish they still offered it OR the cement. I just ordered this same truck , 2022 TRD Off Road double cab long bed in the Lunar Rock , that’s as close to cement as I could get . Second choice would be Army Green. My dealership is also NOT charging the BS “ market value adjustment price “ either , fair and reasonable price.
Awesome job as always from Joe and Lori. Just wondering if you think the TRD Sport drives and feels better than the TRD Off Road, especially on roads and highways? Also which has less road noise when driving?
If you can find an Off Road with the cap back exhaust and leather interior, its the truck to go with, even over the Frontier. And if you find an Off Road with the TRD shift knob, oh yeah now you’re talking.
Another gorgeous blue that Toyota makes. Voodoo blue is as well one my favorite blues Toyota offers. I hope Toyota adds voodoo blue to the color palette for the new tundra
I think overall the new Frontier is better, I was going to buy one but the new Tacoma will be release soon and it should beat the Nissan. Hopefully they don’t screw up the design and give us an interior, similar to the Tundra with good ergonomics (better seats). If it comes with a pano sunroof I’d buy one in a heartbeat but that’s a stretch.
Im sorry but though Tacoma is a well equipped reliable truck I dont see how anyone can drive it with anything less then the V6 option and the manual. I got a 2022 as a free upgrade rental with the 2.7 four cylinder with 18k on it somebody had been off roading in it so I eventually returned it due to rattling exhaust and got another one this time a higher trim 4x4 with blacked out badging with the 3.5 V6 which sounds amazing by the way I dont know what exact trim it is I assume its one of the TRD trims but the 4 cylinder also said TRD but had none of the drivetrain functions like the V6 I got. But my short time with the 2.7 it was so slow I was afraid to get on the highway and the 6 speed automatic is rough and indecisive with shifts. Once I got the V6 it was much better power wise. But the 6 speed automatic is a big disappointment. Shifts on both are so jerky. In the V6 if you need briskly accelerate at highway speed there is a noticeable delay in downshifts. Also at low speeds if you simply want accelerate quickly like quarter throttle it will immediately slam down to a lower gear and its like you went all the way to floor with the pedal. I tried even less input but it wont just simple go down a gear it will stay in overdrive until you press the throttle enough for it to slam down again and take off like a rocket it sounds so good though but you will have neck problems from the violent shifting. Overall I still like it with the V6 the automatic transmission is just unrefined for a 2022. When your inside of it looking over the big bulged hood though you feel like your in a full size truck and I could easily keep up on the highway with the V6 but again to the transmission it will not stay in overdrive it loves to hang out in 5th gear on the highway. It reminds me of my old 2006 grand marquis with the 4R75E with 2.73 gears it just doesn't like overdrive due to the tall gears. I dont know what the ratio in the rear end on the Tacoma is but im assuming its probably just the transmission gearing.
It is just so 2015 except for the price! Well and the 1996 rear break drums 😳 You should do a side by side to be fair, a lot missing as compared to the Pro4X!
I would love to see you do a review on the limited model I’ve decided to go with that because it does what I need all the full size trucks are overpriced
Hey I have a question for you! The power comes in near the end of the power band. So going up a hill going 65-the speed limit it will scream to over 4k rpms (3rd gear) just to maintain speed. My question is since the power is at 4k and over is the engine made to withstand full throttle more than engines that the power is at low or mid range?
As far as reliability, any vehicle will last forever with proper preventative maintenance, there’s a frontier that was featured that hit a million miles, because of the maintenance upkeep, so it’s really up to the owner and how they take care of their vehicle
Joe,would it be wiser to get a Silverado or this tocoma,I'm thinking about getting a truck but I don't know what I want yet, what would you recommend for a 1st time ever truck?
Whole windows doesn’t drop, that is Tundra. And there is no way Tacoma weighs 6200 pounds, maybe 4800. I would zonk the stickers, I took mine off. Agree on heated steering wheel.
Since 1980's I have the same question.. Why everyone want to beat Toyota's pick up.. I have a custom cab 4x4 1989 almost 500 thousand miles. Unkillable truck.. simply the best..
I just have a❓why if the TRD pro has a different $90 optional air filter & a full 🐈-Back exhaust system does it make the same horsepower as the TRD 4x4 off-road?? I have the 22 TRD 4x4 off-road I just did my 1st 🛢️ change at 545 miles Toyota wants you to wait like 10,000 miles for your first oil change or some crazy shit they're out of their mind! (IMO) Anyways I had to wrap out my 3rd ⚙️ to the red line so I know how fast I can go in each gear in case I need to downshift 2 pass somebody, my Tacoma did 96 mph in 3rd gear & did not even hit the rev limiter yet! Some of the longest gears I've ever driven!
The new Nissan Frontier is designed for the V-6. The Tacoma will soon go to a turbo inline four-cylinder engine. Just as good, they claim. Get a V-6 Tacoma while you still can.
Neither. Ranger Lariat FX4 with Focus RS motor. Intake, downpipe and tuned. 340hp/372tq. The 10 speed in the Ranger has been handling 475hp on my buddies, with bolton turbo upgrade as well. 👍

My friend has one and he says it’s good for him. I somewhat like them but I wanna see a design change first.
I think most people want to see that.
@@RaitisRides They really need one and I hope at some point they actually release one or even a tease would be good for now.
@@mystictk4149 I am sure it is coming!
@@RaitisRides I’ll wait patiently lol.
Awesome job as always from Joe and Lori. Just wondering if you think the TRD Sport drives and feels better than the TRD Off Road, especially on roads and highways? Also which has less road noise when driving?
It is actually a little softer sprung and the tires are not as off road aggressive. Both of the things make it better to daily drive!
The TRD off road is better!
The off road have crawl control and rear diff lock! The sport is just a sr5 with blue shocks and sporty hood
I love it my boy Joe keep up the work and I love the video lot real true 💯 👍
As much as I love a 4x4 Taco or 4R, I actually want a 4x2 to do the desert rat lift & wide-body set up. Just a personal choice
Bro I love you and your videos i wanna meet you once
Keep it up
👍
Thanks man! Maybe one day soon!
Tacoma rules this segment....
Can it be overthrown?
@@RaitisRides doubt that
Nothing even remotely close to the Tacoma in sales, the Ranger was a very very distant second place.
I heard you can actually get both the Hilux and Tacoma in Mexico.
It is just so 2015 except for the price! Well and the 1996 rear break drums 😳 You should do a side by side to be fair, a lot missing as compared to the Pro4X!
Good 🌅☕love you're 🎥's how u go thru everything and wat u don't really like ZONK IT have a RAV4 thinking bout the "Taco"Tacoma and the skittles🤭
Thanks for letting me share this one with you Kyle.
Anytime
I like your channel. It's always informative.
Can You Make 2021 nissan sentra
Tacoma needs the 4 auto option.
As owner of a 2017 and 2020 4hi/lo is not functional for the daily drive
I would love to see you do a review on the limited model I’ve decided to go with that because it does what I need all the full size trucks are overpriced
Stay tuned Kirby!
love your review!
Thanks for taking the time to say that!
You are so very right about that!
Hi Joe, Hi Lori (happy face)
Hey Tony!
@@RaitisRides can I come to Florida to live with you guys? haha you can adopt me as your full time on call gopher & lawn service guy, I hate Missouri
I love the color.
It really works well on the Tacoma.
11:56 made me die in laughter.
Joe,would it be wiser to get a Silverado or this tocoma,I'm thinking about getting a truck but I don't know what I want yet, what would you recommend for a 1st time ever truck?
love the color on that thing
I’d choose Toyota over Nissan any day and would be willing to give up 32 horsepower
I love it . That is just my opinion
I am glad you are liking this Tacoma.
Whole windows doesn’t drop, that is Tundra. And there is no way Tacoma weighs 6200 pounds, maybe 4800. I would zonk the stickers, I took mine off. Agree on heated steering wheel.
How are you Joe? TACOMA LET'S GO!!!
2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD 4X4 OFF-ROAD Crew Cab Long Bed!
Nice call on that one.
The circular vents are so 2002 LOL
They are making a comeback.
@@RaitisRides so are drum brakes LOL :)
I would never get a Nissian truck.
Waiting for Toyota to do a Hybrid Tacoma with a modern refreshed interior just like what they did with the Tundra.
That will be interesting to see.
44k its too high. Not long ago the pro was 45k.
Is this a color option from Toyota? Don’t see it on the Toyota website as an option for the 2022 Tacoma… pls let me know where you got this color
It’s alright
I know it’s not for everyone
This or Volvo XC40 T5
Tacoma seriously needs an update like the tundra
hows the weather in florida?? looks nice and warm! im freezing in NY
About 75 degrees. It is my favorite time of the year!
Toyota over Nissan....all day long!
I’m glad you like this Toyota David!
NEGATIVE!
I never know what he’s about to say lol😂😂😂😂😂👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I like to keep you guessing!
Is Toyota still making this voodoo blue from the factory or it has been discontinued?
It depends what model and trim.
ONE DAY THIS WILL BE MINES
Seats 💺 are spectacular 👌 🙌
You actually put candies inside the arm rest 💀💀💀
Heck yeah!
God that Voodoo blue is wickeeeeeeeeeeeeed.
Frontier for me please
Can't go wrong that is for sure!
The new Nissan Frontier is designed for the V-6. The Tacoma will soon go to a turbo inline four-cylinder engine. Just as good, they claim. Get a V-6 Tacoma while you still can.
That color alone is awesome it's roomy and it functions like truck
Neither. Ranger Lariat FX4 with Focus RS motor. Intake, downpipe and tuned. 340hp/372tq. The 10 speed in the Ranger has been handling 475hp on my buddies, with bolton turbo upgrade as well. 👍
Did they get the name "Tacoma" from the town Tacoma in Washington ???
