I hope we can install any os in it.
That would make these really amazing. Fingers crossed!
I think it will be possible because they usually are more open than other brands.
You can,on their old dx4600 series.Unraid, omv even xpenology if you want
I asked support. They said it would void warrenty
I mean, in theory you can install anything you want. Use one of the Flash SSDs to spin up truenas and you're good to go
Color me surprised. Is Anker going to be next???
They do make the best external NVMe case. Paint me unruffled.
If so, it would be double as pricey as those.
I've got a handful of UGREEN products that I use pretty regularly because they're fairly inexpensive and they work. Two SD card readers, a SATA to USB adapter, and an external hard drive enclosure. If I ever find myself in need of a NAS then I know where I'm going to look first. 😁
Thanks for the video. Excited to see what UGREEN brings to the table!
Always a good thing to have more choices for pre-built NAS systems so the price points are there depending on options and chassis preference.
Thanks for sharing!
Could be interesting depending on price and if you can install something like truenas on it.
Was there any information about pricing for the line up? Thanks for the information...I have been looking into to NAS setups was hoping for a better entry point with better specs.
I don't know if you mentioned ECC but I was looking at the spec list for these and it only mentions support for the on-die ECC that's standard for DDR5, so if that's a requirement then this isn't it. If that 6 bay is competitively priced then I'm surely interested
Like those huge numbers on the drive bays, looking forward for them and taking them out for a spin
I really wish they would start coming out with multi-bay NAS enclosures with 2.5" bays! I want a NAS enclosure, the same size as shown in the video, but with 2.5" drive bays, should be able to get double the bays in the space that the old 3.5" rust drives take up. I want my solid state storage right on the PCIe bus and if I need slow robust rust storage, I can pit it in a second enclosure and hook it in with fast usb, since the latest usb standards are now out pacing what SATA can do anyway.
it's good to have more competitor, waiting to see the price and see if we can install omv, unraid, trunas etc
Saw an article a few months ago where ugreen was looking for beta testers for the 2 and 4 bay version. I registered for that and got a mail this week where I had to answer a few more questions. I believe they will choose the testers at the end of January.
I'm curious to see what the actual product feels like and how the software is.
This is actually their second gen units, there was a previous gen that used the Celeron N-Series sold in China only. So seems more like a marketing exercise than actual beta testing...
Has anyone heard if Ugreen has something like Synology’s SHR? That’s a big selling point to me
I do like their cables and chargers😊
Same lol
I really like the form factor, but I wonder how they're going to be able to cool these. Also not thrilled that they're launching on Kickstarter.
Awesome!! I want this! I recently thought of getting a Terramaster NAS to set it up as a home lab using Proxmox, but I didn't want the old Intel N5095 and finally decided to get an Intel N100 Mini PC instead. With this new NAS I could get the best of both worlds, I love it! I think my beloved Mini PC will get replaced as soon as the UGREEN devices hit the market. 🤩
As long as Plex is able to install im all for it 😂
Will it possible to install an own OS, like proxmos or any other unix/linux OS?
Why are they all horizontal? Why not like the PlayStation, where you choose orientation? Is that a ventilation thing? Design choice or there is a technical reason?
Because heat rises?
Looks like nice kit, and presuming you can put something else on it it could be a great TrueNAS host--8GB of RAM out of the box, expandable to 32GB, is a very good sign. Just wonder what the network hardware is; hopefully not Realtek garbage.
Hopefully it'll drive the price down for NAS systems with more competition in the market.
Need pricing. These only make sense when the price is right.
Also, can it run existing NAS software like TrueNAS, OMV, UnRAID, etc? I trust that software more than their in-house, new, and relatively un-tested software. 3rd party software like TrueNAS has many more eyes on it, and will get updates beyond what a hardware vendor arbitrarily decides is the lifecycle for their product. Every IoT 'appliance' will end up with no support in the future.
Those look tasty and the 2 bay is already on website so pricing looks competive 🙂
Did you note the max NVME drive capacity on the ssd box ? Another UA-camr said it 1TB per.
Max 4TB per Slot 🙌
6 and 8 bays also have 2 slots for nvme as well.
The problem is that companies are either at or over the competitors when they enter the market with these NAS units. Curious to know who they commissioned to build their units.
Hardware seems pretty nice but I have serious doubts about UGreen suddenly becoming a software company. I give it about a week after this thing is released until remote access is compromised.
Wow this is cool hopefully their price is competitive because synology while great is overpriced for the hw. If they allow us to install any os also on it this will be a killer for them
unRAID ;-)
I did not notice it in the video, do they use usb-c for power? Since its, well, ugreen and all. Thats a big point for me.
Nope
@@RaidOwl quite sad, kinda expected ugreen to throw us a bone here as a 'u could buy some of our other products too'. I am still probably getting the flash one though. 19v power adapter I assume?
I hope that the Customer Service will be better than an other companies C.S. Noticed that you didn't mention prices.
Hope their software is better than terramasters 😂
You ain’t lying
Not a very high bar to exceed... but as long as they let you re-install something else, that's all good, lol. My Terramaster is happily running TrueNAS.
No av1 support for 4 bay, sad
Don’t you need 25gig to go fast fast?
10Gbps
can i ask you for help? i Have this old Netgear Readynas NV+ and this Netgear can only handel smb1 so i cant enter it whit newer windows so i can manage it. Do you know any way that i can install a newer firmware so i can use it whit like windows10?...i use mac os to and there i can see all hardrives and upload things to it but i cant see it in windows...Sorry for the question,,,
Go into Windows settings and enable SMB 1. learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/file-server/troubleshoot/detect-enable-and-disable-smbv1-v2-v3?tabs=server
😀@@RaidOwl Thanks.
Open source? BSD or Linux?
But will it run TrueNAS? 😄
😢 no server version
It would've been nice to see 25Gbps or even 40Gbps networking on the all-flash models. 10Gbps is not even remotely fast enough to take advantage of gen 3 NVMe storage, let alone gen 4 or 5.
The larger nas are using i5 processors
I’m pretty sure he’s referring to non pro models. If you look at the pamphlet it says i5. If you look at UGreen’s product support pages they actually show 3 additional models that weren’t available in the campaign
@@thefoxhouse he needs to clarify and be specific or what’s the point.
@@nyccontrabass3489Well, to be fair he was very likely only quoting the models actually on display. This also came out fair while before UGreen put out official details about the campaign and preorders. They may not even release the other models outside of China. Now that official details are out, this video is pretty much irrelevant. Ugreen likely did polls on which models would appeal to the world market
Looks like a clone form another brand *Winkle *Winkle
Sure, let’s buy a Chinese NAS 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You missed a crying emoji. 4 doesn’t really sell it.
