pumped full of technology. Synology and Qnap should take a leaf out of their book. I hope the software delivers what it promises. I'm eagerly awaiting your review.
I like the possibility that this supports installing a third-party OS like TrueNAS or OMV. Synology-sized NAS's are great, but I've never been too fond of being stuck to using the proprietary software that's included with them. This might be a game changer.
Im watching this model, specifically, closely. And more importantly @nascompares detailed review! Ive just upgraded from a Synology ds209 (yes, very old unit) to a Synology ds920+ this week. But a bit disappointed in the lack of at least 2.5gig ethernet on the Synology. Also, Ugreen also confirmed that it does not have anything like Synology Hybrid Raid, so that I can add to my current 2x 16TB drives over time as needed, with hopefully 2x 22TB drives in the future. It would seem that with the Ugreen, i'd be limited to 2x 16TB drives in raid 5
Really curious about the software and its capabilities. Looking into upgrading my older QNAP and I'm wondering whether to stay with tested and seasoned platform at higher price or go with this new very competitively priced HW with yet unknown SW capabilities. Also data migration may be a little painful...
Can't wait to get the 6-Bay model. Just need to confirm if it supports Unraid since that's what I use now. I'll just have to move my drives and USB key over and I'm good. Just looking at the video, this checks a lot of boxes for me compared to Synology.
Alonzo! Hope you are well. The product launch has apparently been delayed to later in March. I won't be publishing anything major on the tests etc until the 2nd half of March, as the software will still in development and seems unfair to put slot of "review weight" behind the prototype/1st production model. That said, it's left me impressed so far and although the software is still in it's earlier days, the build quality is very good for a launch product. Performance testing on the flash model started earlier today and the results are inconclusive. TBC!
@@nascompares yeah, I mean, I'm ok with all those dodgy torrent, ios jailbreak, anything. But in any way I won't put my 24 years long of family photos archive in the unofficial software for sure haha.
This is so funny because I'm in the beta and they sent us an older, unreleased hardware revision to test the OS and point out bugs and feedback. It's similar to this.
Been playing with it for a few days now. Fairplay that it's got the fundamentals running and standard navigator menus (thank you Google translate!) + RAID in places (still stunned zimaOS/CASA didn't have this at launch in 2024). Gonna make a more formative vid on that later in March (give them time to update accordingly)
Could you test the power draw in your review too? Curious how power efficient it is with the stock OS. Does it have some configs to adjust power settings, e.g. spin-down drives? Does it use regular mdadm raid or other raid techniques like unraid has? Thanks and Greets!
@@nascompares As long as it is well before the close of the Kickstarter. :) Your stuff is worth waiting for. I'm a fan. While I have you hear, can I ask you to ensure you cover data scrubbing on the unit, security, and Direct Attach possibilities (on the Facebook group when I asked about direct attach via the Thunderbolt ports I was told it wasn't in plan - I feel like this is a GIANT misstep by Ugreen and I'm hoping the collective voice that is content creators and their audience can maybe get them to reverse that. :) Cheers.
I pre purchased the cheapest one, of everything turns out as expected and the software is good enough when it releases, I’m considering getting the 4800 plus
I’m in the beta, but oddly enough I can’t actually buy any of the NAS when they are released as the kickstarter is only US and Germany at the moment. I’m not allowed to comment on the beta due to the NDA, but the build quality is pretty good for the DX4700 I’m testing.
Looking forward to it! Btw, not that it's a big deal - but i've noticed the audio quality of your shorts is quite a bit worse than your longer form content. I'm not sure how your audio set up differs for shorts but it sounds a bit... distorted? (i'm not an audiophile so I don't know the technical name for it). Hope you dont mind me mentioning 🙂
Not offended. It's because it's being recorded on a mobile microphone, whereas my studio mic is much better + features post production. Working on that. Cheers for the feedback
Really excited about this maybe do an early look video. No reviews just showing off a peak at what’s to come and the features it currently has or working on. I know a lot of people are excited for this
That's what I am doing, as I cannot really review a device that is technically a pre release prototype. The video (currently at 80% finished) is a hardware teardown (right down to the board), brief overview of the very early beta software, PCIe lane checking via SSH and benchmarking internally). But gonna hold off publication till closer to the official KS launch, as they might update any issues I find by then - only fair to give them till they are calling the product a intended final, or at least confirm changes between the unit I have and the intended fulfillment one
Ty for your work. Looking to buy a 4-6 bay by the end of year. These , the terramaster 424 pro or wait for something from sinology? Mostly for vms, docker and plex
Tough call, as it's about your software demands more than hardware. The Synology WILL give you less "umpf", but the other give you loads more power, but something of an uphill battle to create and manage your vms currently. Sorry I can't help further man
Yep, realized a bit after recording (Ugreen got in touch on this too), but UA-cam shorts are a pain to edit in the YT GUI. This has been addressed in all other content. I blame cross over with the N305 and AMD 7804HS videos being recorded all in 48hrs ..oh..and my tiny brain.
I was going to release it this Friday, however UGreen stated publicly that they are delaying the launch and changing/adding some things, so I thought it unfair to publish the video until then (software stuff). The hardware parts are all done, but I want to redo the software section to reflect these/any changes
Tbh not for a good 2 weeks, as the product has been delayed and improvements are being made I believe, so it's wouldn't be fair to publish yet. But I will regardless publish in the 2nd half of March
@@nascompares At least so far my claim with my credit card was processed for the add ons, sadly seems the main Storaxa purchase is going to go unchanged, but at least got the other half back for the add ons.

@@nascompares never tried it, but I might. Or I'll just wait for your review 🙂

Will this be available in Canada at the lower introduction price?
How does one get access to a beta model?
I just put in for the 8 bay. It looks super promising
Nice!
Can i replace the software with an open nas software
Does it support ECC by any chance?
Back to front airflow? I wonder how well that does for cooling the drives.
It seems to run ok, but I haven't got to the deeper tests yet. TBC
I like UGreen NAS then any other manufactures

Waiting for review. Install xpenology on it and compare with same price Synology. Thanks

CPU and 10GbE.
