Love the convo that is happening in the comments 🌸. Let's shine a light on something crucial: our society is obsessed with celebrities. Sure, it'd be awesome to rally for change in politics and other critical areas (and that happens too). But also, tackling the celeb obsession is a vital and necessary step toward seeing greater change. It's wild how much attention and energy celebrities get compared to real-world issues. Since attention equal money in this capitalistic society, we have to be intentional where that goes. Maybe then we'll finally start addressing the bigger challenges head-on. Its not about getting rid of celebrities, art, and entertainment as a whole. It's about humanizing celebrities, thereby lowering them from the pedestals they've been placed upon. Not saying take away all their money or anything extreme, but rather to reimagine what celebrity culture and being a celebrity looks like.
A lot of influencers have started coming out AGAINST the celebrity boycott, stating they don't get it. It's simple if you have no empathy for other human beings we're not paying any attention to you. KEEP IT GOING!!!!!!!
well they have millions of dollars and they keep it all for themselves instead of helping others with their money or donating or even speaking about real life issues
you can't end CELEBRITY CULTURE by OBSESSING over celebrities LMFAO.....this whole thing is foolish and performative AF!!! The only thing they're doing is creating even more celebrity visibility....literally none of this will Affect them Sorry to burst your bubble but nothing about this is "tackling" celebrity obsession... celebrities did not create world problems and they are not legislators either...once again people spending way too much time on the wrong things....
Right? Like have you SEEN the complexity of prairie grass root systems and how amazing they are at preventing erosion? Or how sand from the Sahara desert gets swept up into the wind over the Atlantic, all the way to the Amazon Rainforest, providing the plant life with essential minerals? Celebrities could never.
THIS!!!! I am an artist that grows plants (many of them native to my area) to make paints, inks, papers, cordage, etc. with because nature and the environment and slow processes in art are underappreciated and I refuse to let AI steal my ideas. AI does not support the environment, but my flower beds provide seeds, nuts and nectar for wildlife, and it provides me a way to express myself creatively!
Here’s my thing, if we’re going to cancel celebrities let’s also cancel influencers as well. This is how it all starts..it enables a sense of entitlement and power that not one single person should be given imo.
@@anastasia.noelleyes omg ive seen so many influencers literally influencing overbuying eco-friendly products and skincare but once it gets overbought..it ruins the purpose, like the Stanley cups. I feel that once an influencer lets the fame and money get to their head they run out of original ideas and start doing whatever the latest trend is to make it become “normalized” and become more and more out-of-touch with reality. It’s like you can see the humanity and authenticity fade out of a person with every video
This is an influencer you are watching. The President is an influencer. Humanitarians are influencers. An influencer is an influential person. Why would you cancel them all just because you can? This is why people say Gen Z is stupid. People have to lead and influence whether you like it or not. Ironically, this "end celebrities movement" is meant to influence others. So how does a world exist without influencers? Think!
I just think they should be getting more normal people salaries. There’s no reason that an actor needs to be making more than the teachers that shaping the world/next generation.
Milennial here . Quick message for gen Z : keep doing what you do and don't listen to the annoying entitled olders who think they could do better when they clearly have no clue what the world is becoming . Gen Z gave me back some hope tho. Keep going
Even if you don't pay attention to "celebs" terrible atrocities will still happen. Even if you block "all the bad ppl" you will still be purchasing things by major corps...you'll be using technology generated by "bad guys"...etc... Blocking Taylor Swift isn't going to stop anything...for the globe. Ask ppl in Gaza being bombed if you blocking Zendaya solved anything. I think they prefer you to reach out political leaders...not block Kim K to show solidarity lol
I often feel like Gen Z is embracing the realm of censorship and book burning...Everything is boxed neatly and nobody can say anything of opposition. Every generation has pros and woes, tho. This is so weird to read but certainly not shocking. #opinions
Gen Z isnt going to “end” celebrity culture necessarily, they are just going to experience something adjacent to it. a time period where everyday people act as/get treated like celebrities because of how easy it is to have your own platform and become viral. when the girl in her living room doing GRWMs can get as much attention as a post from an actress, practically everybody is a celebrity. and when everybody is a celebrity, nobody is.
which is the 'as we know it' part of the title. Its due time society reimagines how we interact with celebrities and the culture around them. End the obsession and put that energy towards more important things. It doesn't mean the end of the arts and peoples ability to share their talents. Just a different idea of what being a celebrity looks like.
@@tinyseyit’s not gonna end. Entertainment has been a thing for years, it’s not something that will just end by beck and call. No matter what, people are gonna want dopamine, to be curious, nosy and look towards an idol which may come in the form of their fav celeb, as that’s a form of aspiration. ‘More important events’ don’t bring that. I wish people would realise this, it’s just the unfortunate reality. A shift is happening sure, but also not really. We’d all get depressed and rampant if this ideal world of having our feeds full of all the wrongs in this world were to take place.
$75k would change my life completely so the fact that people are throwing that amount of money away for one single night is absolutely insane to me. ***edit*** Please read all of the replies under this comment before you waste your time.
@@Mal.victory bro, I’m not asking the celebs to personally give me their money. Obviously it’s their money and they can do whatever they want with it. I DO blame the government for allowing people to hoard massive amounts of wealth while the majority of people can’t even afford groceries. The money goes towards historical preservation of clothing and costume. Its not just paying for a party its raising funds for a extremely important part of historical preservation. Most celebs also don't pay to go to the Met, they're sponsored or paid for by the designers for recognition of their work in return. Its not money thrown away its going to a good cause.
@@Stargirl4lyfe thank you so much for this information. I genuinely appreciate that you took the time to write this educational response. It’s good to know that the money will go towards an academic cause instead of being used on something that is entirely frivolous. That being said, my opinion on celebs, and the 1% in general, still stands.
@@venusretrograde6177 no worries it’s a big misconception that all celebs pay, it’s mainly the people not in the public eye, so the strange billionaire or two that show up are easily paying more than 75k to be there. a lot of people like the supermodels and the smaller actors who attend would not be able to afford the ticket nor attend without brands paying for them.
Can we bring back people being hypothetical “celebrities” because they worked really hard and did cool things? Instead of them being famous because they flex all their money and were born into wealth??? Please??? “Celebrities” aka “people who are celebrated” , should be people actually worth celebrating.
Or how about we create a new culture where everybody gets to work hard and do cool things and is consequently appreciated for it, instead of this clearly pointless debilitating unsustainable culture of "specialness" , like we've already been there done that... do you know what the world could look like and be if EVERYONE was operating at their full potential, instead of just the select few who have been given priority "otherness" over everyone else...like for how long are humans going to keep being slaves to this crippling limiting cancer-like scarcity mindset
My family is on the brink of homelessness, yet my mother makes 85k a year. Just 10k less than a ticket to the Met Gala, that celebrities can pay for in a single day like it's nothing. We're constantly saving money because everything is so expensive, and we almost lost our apartment recently because my mother couldn't pay the rent on time. She paid two days late. We often go two or three weeks without buying groceries just to pay the bills, and it's horrible. Gen Z doesn't like celebrities anymore because we're all suffering and are tired of how things are right now.
And blocking celebrities is going the change this? Shouldn’t this energy be put towards the people responsible for the rising costs of everything?I said this before and I say it again…cutting the strings of the puppet but not even knowing the names of the puppet masters is crazy.Celebs don’t pay for their Met tickets…most tables are purchased by the fashion houses who are no longer family owned but have been bought out by corporations but Bernard Arnault’s name is nowhere on the block list…neither are any of the studio heads who individually make more money than most small countries… or how about going after the foods companies…there are only about 12 who are responsible for %80 of the food you buy and the cost of it but PepsiCo and Unilever are nowhere on the block list. This energy is misplaced…I promise you that Zendaya is not responsible for the price of eggs going up.

But there are SO many who have been boycotting and protesting faithfully and thoroughly. I know the situation looks hopeless, but there are actually so many people trying to help and, maybe, hopefully, it will eventually lead to change. I think more than ever it's a bad time to be generalizing people.
True. They're not ending celebrity culture, they're just shifting their attention to other forms of entertainment. They're creating new celebrities instead of just liking the same celebrities their parents like
That's what i've been saying lol, celeb worship is just shifting not going away. I think it's awful mostly because these e-celebs usually have zero talent. At least the traditional celebs usually were good at something
This is still the wrong focus. Do this to politicians and people who control the cost of our food. The people who chose to send 60 million to countries we cant even point out on the map while we citizens can barely afford housing, healthcare, education etc. take out this outrage on the fact that the irs is faceless yet they take half of everything we get and then they allow the gov to “lose track of funds” meanwhile citizens have to no when and where they bought a sandwich a year ago. The dislike of celebrity culture is just another form of obsessing over them.
Zendaya should NOT get a pass. She showed up to the Mete Gala dressed like a resident of the capitol just like everyone else, if not more so. She flaunts her privilege all the time and should be lumped in with the rest of them.
@@shanouboubou No, it's absolutely not enough. Given the wealth that she and every other one of these celebrities have, they have NEVER done enough. Being down to earth is less than the bare minimum, and we should not be giving a pass for the bare minimum, not where a genocide is concerned.
“I hate celebrities and think celebrity culture should end, but we should give so and so a pass” has been said by multiple generations prior to GenZ. That doesn’t really work.
Like I am so sick of "Hollywood, the only place you can make it as an actor/singer/director." I can not wait for other places, cultures and people to be highlighted, more humbly with less hyper concentration. I think I need to get into indiemovies... there are so many skilled, talented people in many places, I would love to support them where they are from, istead of those rich people stacked on top of eachother in a valley.
Please do find and support indie filmmakers. Filmmaking is very hard work, indie films even harder due to lower wages, less crew, and a need for faster turn around. But if fans support indie productions financially it will be easier for more decentralized filmmakers to get funding and create more decentralized content.
Yes to this! I’m currently writing a film that I will eventually produce and direct independently. There are so many places out there with bustling independent film industries and I cannot wait for them to get the shine they deserve! I have hope that it will happen.
Missed the mark a bit. Gen Z is absolutely not above celebrity worship whatsoever. Charlie D’Amelio, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet, Ice Spice, Emma Chamberlain, Etc etc etc. Gen Z is single-handedly the reason for most Tiktok users rise to stardom. And they’re being constantly marketed to with Amazon storefronts & sponsorships, which fuels the entire ecosystem and continues the toxic cycle. As much as Gen z likes to think they’re progressive and “taking a stand” they sink into the same traps as everybody else, it’s just in a different font.
True but the fact that a *relatively average person can blow up on tiktok already shows that the standards for celebrity hood has shifted and its not exclusive anymore which is a big change in and of itself. Give the generation some credit because eventually it'll lead to big changes.
at least we are aware... at least we're trying to change the culture. I am not saying that this will definitively end celeb culture but all the people you mentioned have been called out for their silence or their outright anti-pali behavior.

However, we gotta do more than that. That's literally bare minimum.
Legitimately, give it 5 years and this will all return back to the way it was Ive been removed from celebrity culture since I was kid, people who have no influence in my life don’t deserve a time a day in my head. So I see the pattern enough where regular folk will get temporarily outraged about their favorite celeb, leave, and then come back after a couple months to years.

I feel like more people need to be aware of the Congo and Sudan and Haiti about now. If not now when? And I’m praying this activism won’t just stop here and that we keep making more and more impactful steps in the right direction
However, you know it’s gonna stop with Palestine. Those other countries that you mentioned involved Black countries. People only care about that for a short period of time, if at all. Unfortunately, you can’t make people care if they don’t want to. You’ll just have to come to the realization, as I did.
I’m happy that you brought that up because I have some feelings about why people ignore them. I feel like it’s because it’s harder for white liberals to talk about Black countries because they think they’ll be accused of racism. But talking about Israel doesn’t garner those accusations because Jewish people are coded as white-adjacent in the US. Idk. It’s just a vibe I get. 🤔 Also, the issues in the Congo, Sudan, and Haiti tend to be systemic (especially when it comes to the exploitation for minerals and metals). A war is an event. It has a relatively clear-cut beginning and end that is easier for people to imagine.
@@LoneWulf278 The Congo, Haiti, and Sudan also are harder to access for the general population. The oppressed people have long been stripped of their access to the outside world. They don't have allies in their regions like Palestine does. That will actively fight for aid to be provided or ensure their access to crucial services is difficult to disrupt. Haiti, Sudan, and the Congo are exploited by all sides of the international politics spectrum. They are often also the targets of "aid" campaigns that have never been disrupted in the way aid to Palestine has been controlled. So it's harder to develop the same brutal imagery and clearly heinous conduct. The Palestinian genocide has been so visible. While the actions in Haiti, Sudan, and Congo are just as horrific. The violence isn't as evocative, I wish any violence was unacceptable to the general populace. We're just not there yet.
Blocking and depowering celebrities is opposed by meatriders on social media. Taking power away from government figures is opposed by the IRS and, you know, _the government._

@@chaoskhaos5061 I think what they mean by this is that they don’t see celebrities stuff anyway. Most algorithms are somewhat tailored to your experience and if you only interact with your friends posts and posts about horses then you probably don’t see celebrities on your feed and blocking them would be purely symbolic because it’s not like they get the number of how many people blocked them I’m on Facebook and Tumblr. Facebook is mainly to see what my parents tell people about me and to see life updates of people I was friends with 5-10 years ago but don’t talk to anymore (old friend just got engaged this week and people graduating) Tumblr has a handful of celebrities but they don’t have any real influence from it. Neil Gaiman and Will Wheaton are on there but they aren’t advertising their works, just hanging out. There’s the big accounts, but once again they’re random people that are beloved more so for their posts (like one time i dreamt and bad jokes by jeff) and people know little to nothing about their real life, nor do they care. Could I log into my old insta and twitter to block all the celebs I can find? Would it be a laughable joke that would literally change nothing about my life and how I interact with the world? Yeah
Instead of worrying about blocking celebs, use that energy to block corrupt politicians by voting them out. If you don't "follow" celebrities & influencers in the first place, you don't have to block them. I haven't given a fuck about anything outside of my bills in damn near 20 years.
Tbf I think celebrities are more likely to get a “pass” over politicians when it comes to getting called out for this shit since many like them and believe they’re not “directly” concerned with politics. So I don’t think it’s misplaced energy just yet (although I agree some people really do need to be reminded about politicians)
Coming from a person who is gen z, I completely agree. However, compared to celebrities, politicians seem a lot harder to reach - yes our vote counts, but the people we have to chose between to give our vote to always feels like choosing btwn the lesser of two evils. I’m excited for us to start running for offices and pushing for rhetoric that falls more in line with our values. But until then, and for the sake of the economy, blocking celebrities feels like the first step in getting money to people who actually need it for now.
The only issue I have is that the Met Gala is a charity event. The brands pay for the tickets and the money goes to the museum. Clearly there are deeper issues at play, but the Met Gala is for charity. It’s not some big party just for the hell of it.
Museum is NOT a charity. It's a fundraiser- big difference. And they gets millions each year, it's not like they're insanely underfunded and at risk of closure.

I find Gen Z kids delusional... Thinking they're so woke and progressive... most of them are the biggest celebrity/influencer worshippers, they just pick and chose who gets that adoration
I think the biggest thing that these tiktok activists don’t understand is that most average people don’t care about tiktok celebrities. Like they’re working full time and living almost paycheck to paycheck. Most people in this country who aren’t young are doing their jobs, coming home and watching some tv, and taking care of their families. They don’t have the energy to care.

Gen Z does worship "celebrities". Gen Z worships social media celebrities. People are separating traditional celebrities from social media influencers who have a high level of celebrity. Some social media influencers are millionaires, because they gained celebrity from Gen Z, and they are no different than traditional celebrities. I can name a number of mediocre influencers who have become millionaires, because they stole someone else's content or went go in public doing ridiculously ignorant things. @@blackellegirl I think they mean people should start consuming more indie art/non-Hollywood-centered art, which is widely available online. I need to talk about this so I'll detail the context to make my point: People discovered in the early days of social media they could support literally anyone they personally liked. Early internet "celebrities" didn't want to be celebrities or associated with Hollywood at first, that took some years to change. Cable took a huge hit with the younger audiences. Gossip magazines were selling less and less for several reasons. We were obsessed with the idea of seeing "people like us". Hollywood was struggling with the youth for the 1st time, trying to win a game of catch up with internet culture that they lost for years before they pick themselves back together. Yes, consumers do have more control than they think, and it's a great thing they're realizing it. But no, it won't be an easy shift, because it will have to be cultural, and it will have to be deeper than blocking celebrities.
I would rather we focus on politicians. Governments, even in democracies, don't care about people. Parliaments are basically old age homes. That's what we should focus on
they’re next. USA elections coming up in November and people are already discussing the need to vote progressive down to the county level if we want shit to change. people are making sure they didn’t get kicked from registration so they aren’t scrambling at the last minute (black voters are consistently “dropped” this way, how mysterious /s). it’s been seen what a disproportionate influence USA politics has on the world and the American people are acting
I agree, but let's not be ageist. We all end up old. But I do agree we should focus on canceling and ending politicians' reign and putting in people who actually understand what a public servant is supposed to do. Serve the public, not the corporations, not think tanks. As much as politics is a nasty business, it's not like we, the people, can make a difference when needed.
Celebrities still have a lot of power and influence even if it’s indirectly. Celebrity culture is a large component of how our society runs and is a lot more accessible and easy to dismantle in a lot of ways. It’s not a bad place to start. Politicians next!

Doesn’t really matter to me if they pay or get paid for it. The whole event is inappropriate in the times that we live in. All of the money spent on useless things like this could benefit the society. Instead, the “celebrities” that did nothing good to us and don’t care about us get paid $$$$ to mock us. There are other reasons to block celebrities other than making them uncomfortable and diminishing their ad revenue. You can also block them to prevent the distractions they create in your life, to stop comparing yourselves to them (which is good for your self-esteem), to support other people who are just as talented but not as popular, to bring attention to issues that are important to you, and to free up the space that celebrity culture takes up in our minds. You don't only have to block celebrities for the good of the world, you can do it for the betterment of your own daily life. It may also help kill off stan culture, which is a cesspool and destroys critical thinking and creativity.
Now, see this makes so much more sense and has a tangible goal. And I think it should also extend to social media influencers as well. I have blocked and unsubscribed to quite a few for my own health.
I have a lot more to say. All of these things that GenZ has been talking about have been happening, but they just didn’t want to hear it. You know what I really think? That a lot of GenZ has just grown up, and many of them have aged out of being TikTok stars and social media influencers. So now seeing how hard and unbearable real life is are embittered towards celebrities and people with obscene amounts of money. People have always been human trafficked. Life has always been hard to exist for somebody somewhere. The rich and wealthy have always been languishing in pools of milk and Honey. GenZ just thinks they’re the first ones to shake their fist and say “it’s not fair“ at the establishment. Get in line.
Each day I feel us growing closer to global solidarity and for human rights and it just makes me so happy. We all have WAY more in common with each other than we ever will with the wealthy capitalist class.
what human rights darling you all are just being mature like ur parents wanted you to be just like previous generation, every generation had to go through something it's not that deep
I believe when a significant portion of people in instrustrialized countries (also, in a second step, those living in developing countries that have a higher standard of living) voluntarily give up convenience etc. for the benefit of others. I mean, let's be real here. Something like "I can order anything online and get it delivered" (worst case: express within hours) works because we can afford to be lazy.
@@Irhaablackrose if the previous generation was just so mature then we wouldn't have half the problems we have today. In fact, its mainly our parents and grandparents today that hold us back from making some positive changes. So yes, it really is that deep and I am glad it is.
In my opinion the average celebrity like actors and singers are of more value than the vapid "influencers" doing Shein hauls and the ridiculous fridge restocks etc. Can we cancel them as well?? Im ashamed of my generation (millenials) that we created these beasts. Im sick of feeling inadequate because I dont have the latest foundation or vacuum or supplements or sneakers or whatever other product theyre betting paid to promote. Movie stars never made me feel that way.
@@CyberMachine i see what you mean but i disagree, it’s more rooted in capitalism where elite individuals flaunt their wealth and push the image of over-consumerism as something normal and almost a requirement in order to be respected, meanwhile ordinary working class people aren’t able to participate in that and they feel less worthy of that same social respect. i agree with the part that we working class people need to work around that feeling ourselves and use different ways to determine our worth but its undeniable that those celebrities and influencers are at fault for this too.
I think people are focusing on regular celebrities because they have a lot more power than influencers. Most influencers are not rich, aren't taken as seriously as actors and singers, and don't have the same kind of power and influence. Are many of them problematic, greedy, and tone deaf? Yes, but still.
We can all be grateful for having food, water and a shelter Owning the latest trending things is pointless and too meaningless. Unless they buy it in order to show that it's not important, they are only wasting money. Overconsumption is so horrible for people who work at these places, for animals and for the environment as well Please try to be happy with yourself for not contributing into something so harmful
And Politicians, CEOs, mass corporations laugh their way to the bank, lobby, and sign bills that are making our lives worse. This is why I had to get off tiktok. It's a bunch of internet slacktavists yelling at a brick wall. Also, not saying not to boycott celebrities, but my god can we do something about the people who are actually making these decisions?
Thank you! You can cancel all the celebrities you want but that’s not gonna stop the war, it’s not gonna end homelessness, that’s something that the government is in charged off and it’s their responsibility, they are those ones with the power. Celebrities are just show dogs.
In my opinion, I think of celebrity culture as we know it is falling. But at a concept, is still gonna remain, is just there's gonna be a new wave of celebrities .
Same, I don't think it's ever really going to go away, "celebrities" as a concept of someone famous and admired widely for one reason or another has been around since Shakespeare. The culture presenting changes, but it's not going really go away Also... honestly the actors, singers, artists who do care more about thier craft no matter what...like they're not gonna be to affected either. Especially the ones who try to stay away from the culture. So I mean, I don't see anything changing
@@Starburst514 Yeah, this is more about taking away their extra influencing abilities with their millions of followers than boycotting them. All the artists will still be celebrities but maybe they can focus on their craft instead of what they post on twitter
It's just becoming more democratized and niche. Instead of a few big celebrities owned by big business getting through to the masses, ANYONE can become globally recognized
$75k would save my life the amount of things i would be able to get is insane (food, bills, basic clothing, washing products....the list goes on and on)
The major issue is that we need to separate artists who are basically pressured to keep a public profile to sell their work (mainly because there’s no real money in the artistic fields except for the lawyers and finance bros who control the markets) and random people like the Kardashians who are celebrities simply for the sake of being famous. Obviously, the idea of celebrity is inhumane in and of itself, but there’s nothing inherently wrong with being well known and respected for your work…. emphasis on the WORK part. No one needed to know about Nina Simone’s chaotic home life to love and respect her artistry. Joni Mitchell barely leaves her house cuz she’s too busy smoking and painting and minding her business. We just want the art. Whatever we glean about the artist’s personal life from the work is all that needs to be shared with the public. We need a new system where artists can get paid for their work so they don’t have to keep promoting themselves to stay afloat. Then the marketing of oneself becomes the job instead of art making.
Also, it's worth noting that before social media, it was the norm for celebrities to be stalked, harassed and assaulted by paparazzi who violated their privacy to profit off of the public's interest in their personal lives. The arrival of social media provided a direct line of communication between celebrities and the public, allowing them to better control how much of their personal lives they wish to share, if anything, and making it available for free which killed a lot of business for gossip rags and paparazzi. The public always had an unhealthy interest in celebrities' private lives, but at least now celebrities can benefit from it by promoting their work while also protecting their privacy to some degree and mitigating risks to their safety. But the public demand for the personal content we see from them is nothing new, it just changed medium. The voyeuristic aspect of celebrity worship has always been problematic.
I love this comment, because it is something that's bothered me for a long time. It feels like art in and of itself is no longer valued or appreciated anymore, which makes it nearly impossible to build any kind of creative career. In the past, artists had "sponsors" and time to create their masterpieces - Michelangelo, for instance, stayed with a benefactor while working on a statue for him. Now, artists have to have another job just to stay alive, then still have enough mental energy left to create. But even the full-time jobs are barely enough to get by on these days. So, basically, artists just don't have the time or the energy to create anything anymore. That's why we have such bad quality items, why everything is fast produced. The world values quantity more than quality these days, and because of it we are losing the chance to witness amazing creations by talented people. For all we know, our Michelangelo is currently working in McDonalds trying to get by, or studying something else because he knows art won't be able to sustain him financially. The only way to get your work noticed is by promoting it, but that also takes time and energy.
The problem is gen Z really doesn't just want the art. They want celebrities that make art to also speak about political issues. So they want them to create a brand of activism outside of the art. And they support social media influencers who don't do anything but sit behind a camera and gossip. So I don't even think they want art.
this isnt a millennial or gen z thing. This is a society issue. I dont understand why one generation is getting all of the credit? considering how many problematic influencers with a solely gen z audience are still making money and out here by lying we havent accomplished shit. We have only been known to be obsessed with micro trends / get over issues and problems just as quick as the media wants us to forget. So lets see how long this movement will actually last.
gen xyz alpha millennial is all made up, it's a fact that now the younger people, late teens to mid twenties are entering the market and so have brought certain changes, it so happens that people of that age are "gen z"
Unpopular opinion: Gen Z you’re mad at the wrong people. Keep that energy and boycott Amazon, Facebook, etc. anywhere WHERE MEN ARE HOARDING BILLIONS OF DOLLARS. Not these celebs.
why wouldn’t people be mad at the celebs who are being worshipped for the bare minimum 90% of the time, hoard their money and mislead the masses? Are you not uncomfortable with the uncanny amount of worship people give to celebs? Or are you one of their glazers?
Real. The whole boycotting celebrities feels like an entryway to the bigger picture of boycotting those who exploit the middle class. Because celebrities are in fact 1 step below the 1% of oligarchy that control the world we know. Because if you see how people are blocking celebs, theyre also blocking their businesses AND big businesses like disney, amazon, etc. Because what this current "ending celebrity culture" movement represents is people waking up and realizing our power as consumers in general. Will there be senseless parts of the mobs, sure. But thats just part of any movement. Doesnt mean the whole thing is useless.
For me it’s because I enjoy their music or movies and want to keep up with their new stuff. I guess we boycotting music and movies now? Idk, it’s not like they aren’t giving back in some way.
@@trayas2272 They aren’t boycotting movies and music. You can get info about when they release something or when they’re in an upcoming movie by other means because the company will spend likely millions in advertising. I don’t follow anything with Taylor Swift and I still know when her album came out because Spotify and the New York Times told me. I don’t follow Zendaya but I saw the trailer for Challengers months ago on UA-cam and thought it looked interesting. They aren’t some with some indie studio or label and if they are, honestly, you should follow indie studios/labels instead because those aren’t going to be able to majorly market their products and you will see a lot of other projects they’re working on beyond just what that celebrities involved with (and honestly if the actor does well in an indie movie you really want to check out the studio’s other work because the actor is only a small part of it and the rest of the crew has probably worked on more of their productions)
Honestly, the only reason why I feel like people are boycotting celebrities is because they’re incredibly poor and are having a tough time in society more than ever. Realizing how much their favorite celebrities and influencers have much more than them is turning people into green eyed monsters. It reminds people of the time when people were saying “boycott, Coachella“… As if most of us had the means to go there! As if most of us have the means to purchase Balenciaga on the regular. People are upset for a hot minute and then they get over it. Because if people were really over it and they were really ready to burn this thing to the ground then we’d have seen the change already. Look at how many people made sure they participated in the Taylor Swift Eras tour? You can’t say it was just parents buying it for their teenagers, because there were definitely grown folks paying with their “grown folks” money. If the economy suddenly changed tomorrow, then people would be quiet and go back to their regularly scheduled programming. They didn’t ask to be put on Olympic tall pedestal, they didn’t ask to be worshiped, and they didn’t ask to be made holier than thou. Lastly, let’s not, pretend that people haven’t been using their own little smidge of power to try and destroy people. It was only a matter of time before Zendaya went to the chopping block, Marie Antoinette style.
She still has followers though and still continues to get views as they keep creating more and more influencers just like her- they still interact with them
You are right. That's why nothing gets done. It's a performative movement just because people are angry at the wrong people. History repeating itself. At least there should be a clear and practical goal behind this movement.
As much as I believe in eating the rich, the Met Gala is not the thing to be mad about. Tickets are $75,000 because it's a fundraiser. The Met Gala *funds* the Metropolitan Museum. That's the entire reason the Met Gala exists. It's not just a flashy party for rich people. Without the Met Gala and all the celebrities paying $75,000 a seat, one of the most important museums in the US would very quickly be forced to close.
@@vtop1c it's a matter of priority. I'm not saying I hate the arts or I hate animal shelters but yes, the death of others SHOULD be more important to us IN THIS MOMENT!!
@@sugarcube5826 I'm not really understanding the comparison you're drawing here. Why is saying the Met Gala is a worthwhile event the equivalent of saying the deaths of others isn't important? I don't see the connection, beyond a very shaky "well but THAT money could have gone THERE" type of logic. Yes, human lives are more important than cultural preservation. Cultural preservation is also important. Two things can matter at the same time. In this moment, and every moment, the lives of people are the most important thing. That's why we need museums. We need to be able to remember and connect with the lives of the people in the past. The lives lost today will be remembered most vividly by museum collections in the future. The Met's collection includes things from dozens of other wars across hundreds of years, all of which deserve to be remembered. If we threw out that history every time there was a war, the lives lost would be forgotten that much faster. I personally think it's pretty resourceful that the Met wasn't getting funding from the government (which SHOULD be funding public arts and cultural works) so they decided to have rich people dress up in stupid outfits and pay for it.
I wish GenZ would focus on people who are actually directly involved in the political side of things. Mass blocking Zendaya won't do anything for anyone in Palestine, its just so people can feel superior and "a better activist" than the celebs. If we had this much pressure on actual politicians and not entertainers we could make a change, but no. GenZ just don't seem to be able to let go of celebrity culture, and even in political issues we demand these people to be apart of it.
It's a fair point, but wouldn't you say that all the protests going on in universities around the globe right now is Gen Z putting pressure on politicians ? I think we're fighting on both fronts. According to a few sociology studies, celebrities are what separate us normal people with the 1% elite we never see. So going after celebrity is not a bad first step, it just shouldn't be the only step for sure.
@@shanouboubouPoliticians only care what college kids are doing as far as thier votes, they don't care about protests or college campus' when the main demographic coming in with voting numbers are not the same people doing that

Hey, Hollywood/celebrity culture may have its craziness - but let's make sure us non celebrity folk are not enacting Hunger Games/GoT bs on each other. Let's be honest about how we ALL treat each other in this society. Celebrities are NOT forcing the average human to play mind games and power plays with people in their circles. Before you go after a celebrity's morality, check what's going on in your own neighborhood and your own mind.
this ! also we need to pay way more attention to politicians (as another commenter said) because THEY are the ones who have a direct impact on our laws etc. celebrities can only do so much and ik it’s hard for people to stomach but they really aren’t obligated to publicly speak on certain things if they don’t want to.
This is such a good point. I know a lot of people who are quick to cancel a celebrity online for racism or homophobia but won't call out their own friends making racist or homophobic comments right in front of them. And that's just one example
$75k would be enough to pay off my family (14 y/o me, 59 y/o grandma & 80 year old granddad)’s credit card debt, buy us groceries without food stamps, rent a place, buying us new clothes, fix our car, & get both of my grandparents a doctor’s checkup.
im a actually happy celebrities dont involve themselves in politics. people literally force those entertainers to speak up in something they dont know about. its not their job, they make more harm if they speak abput something they dont get
You guys need to go vote 🗳️ and leave celebrities alone. Blocking is not going to do anything. This sound more like jealousy then genuine concern. Half of you don’t even know who your senator is. Go fight for laws instead of hating how ppl choose to send their money!
Exactly! They'll do everything but vote. I went and voted in the primaries and posted it on my story but no one else I know even mentioned voting. They just make their performative activism posts but won't go and vote. Then they'll complain about everything
For the Jennifer Lawrence point I don't think she specifically fits the argument. The reason why she leaned so heavily into "food as a personality" wasn't to be relatable but a response to the media calling her fat and telling her to lose weight. Cool video, definitely enjoyed it !
23:44 Something people should know is that mainstream celebrities are usually heavily under contracts by studios to promote products and suddenly talking about politics or anithing distasteful as a waste of airtime which is MILLIONS of dollars… could get them in BIG TROUBLE LEGALLY. If YOUR boss sends you into make a sale with a b2b potential partner, are you going to start talking about Isreal, Palestine, and Sudan? Nope. 99% of us know there is a time and a place. Celebrities are positioned on talk shows by the same studio that owns both of them to promote tv shows, products, movies, songs, concerts, etc. Those are CONTRACTUALLY not times to interject distraction and they can even be SUED by studios and left penniless for going against their contract in anyway that could COST the product profits money. I propose the general public realize that no matter how much the pay difference is, you have the same if not MORE power than a celebrity. Hollywood is a small town. They still blacklist people. Don’t ask a celebrity to do anything YOU wouldn’t do.
💯💯 So many of these people wouldn't even give up on their barista job at Starbucks or even boycotting McDonald's for their cause, but they act like it's completely reasonable to demand that others give up on their careers for the cause. This is really some virtue signaling bs
yeah sure their job is alot more important than a dostraction that is me and my people's lives somehow.... people are getting killed live in front of the world but no the buisness is somehow kore important another reason to boycotte
The culture won't go anywhere....gen z will just create new celebrities to get obsessed with for the dumbest reason posible. And there's a high chance we will get some Kardashians type celebrity from tiktok.
The author of hunger games was inspired of watching an USA award show with all celebrities and then flipping the channel and seeing the war in middle east or something like that. So girlie was predicting the future.
It was not an award show nor did it have anything to do with celebrities. She was watching a game show that featured regular people, something similar to Wheel of Fortune. The whole point is those regular people were fighting each other for money (a necessity to live) for the amusement of the nation. Y’all will twist the truth just to make some silly point that isn’t even relevant to the topic at hand. Stop spreading misinformation.
Celebrities have always been in their own world and I couldn’t agree more with the points being made. My only thing about the block list is that it intends to force celebrities to disingenuously speak out on issues that they probably don’t even care to learn more about. A lot of them simply do NOT align or relate to our generation’s values and we all remember how much of a disaster it was when they were collectively vocal a few years ago. There were some positives of course, but the last time a celebrity got excessively involved with politics there were multiple elections from hell 🥴
while i totally understand the whole "the met gala costs $75,000" thing, its also important to realize that the whole thing is a charity event for the costume institute, which is the only part of the met that has to provide it's own funding, mostly because fashion history is considered frivolous and not important to preserve
Sorry but with all those millions they can suffer a couple years. The MET use to be for the people because fashion history belongs to all of us, but now it's for the elite to show how no matter how much we suffer, they'll not sacrifice even 1 night to make a statement.
You’re talking about the gen z that is chronically online. Many aren’t, specifically those who have to work 2 jobs to support their families. They don’t have time to be invested in every initiative.
It’s never going to end for example Arianna grande latest scandal. She should have been cancelled or boycotted based on public discourse. But as soon as her album came out TikTok said “she was wrong for what she, but the music is good.” And continues to line her pockets. I believe right now the public as a whole is more focused on consumption and pleasure to stop such a celebrity culture
There is another side to this argument where Gen Z have a habit of taking down their heroes. How are any celebrities or anyone in the public eye supposed to make any meaningful changes when Gen Z are so quick to take them down if they make a human mistake? I agree with everything you said in the video but I also think we need to allow celebs to be human too. Hopefully then this will open the space for celebs to speak on meaningful social issues without. the fear of being "cancelled".
If those making money are not scamming and are actually positing good content, promoting good things and/or having ethical businesses then why is this a problem? As long as they don't hurt anything or anyone or promote problematic things, they have every single right to try to get money from the internet We can't compare a regular person posting a video for their small business and a celebrity making millions.
We really need to start supporting actual talented artists and those who work hard for it without doing ridiculous publicities, not to mention nepotism and cutting corners for fame smh
honestly it's kind of ridiculous how many people are mad about the met gala. it's a relatively niche fashion event that few people care about. less than a million people watched it live and for most people it's a total footnote in their day or week. and on top of that it's a fundraising event for the met museum that enables them to offer pay what you want entrance fees. you have to pay SOMETHING but you can pay whatever you want. last time i went i paid only two dollars. yeah it absolutely is an insane display of wealth that night but also like.... you people NEED to be putting this energy into boycotting amazon and bullying the government into not enabling genocide and reducing subsidies to oil companies. the iof didn't coordinate attacks with the met gala because no one cares about the met gala and also because they've been indiscriminately attacking gaza for over seven months regardless. completely down with destroying celebrity culture but fundraisers for museums should really not be a target until we've solved way bigger problems like climate change and genocide and the cost of living crisis, none of which museum fundraisers are responsible for
It's not "niche". Millions of people go crazy over it every year. It trends every time. Isnotreal was launching attacks on Rafa as it was happening. So yes, it's important to talk about the Met Gala. And now that it's over, we need to move on and continue to work on putting an end to the gen0cjde.
_"i want my out of touch celebrities, TO BE out of touch"_ is so real. i think the part that i dislike about celebrities nowadays is how they try to pander to us plebeians. talking about their "mental health" and how they "struggle with anxiety". like babe ... i don't care. i struggle with depression from wondering how i'm gonna pay my bills this month. NEXT.
I think you should care. Because people taking mental health seriously now make the workplace more bearable since your employers need to not watch how they treat you. Yes, inflation is still happening. But at least there are ressources for when you're feeling overwhelmed and desperate
Well to be fair getting chased down by paparazzi and picked apart by thousands of strangers online can't exactly be good for your mental state. Don't get me wrong, they're different problems, but mental illness is just one of those things that fame/money can't protect you from imo.
Just because someone is wealthy doesn’t mean their anxiety/depression is going to go away. This just feels like you’re discounting them as mental illnesses and like they’re something only we are allowed to experience.
Girl just because you have depression doesn’t mean rich people can’t have it too. Your issues are right in your place but that doesn’t mean you get to discount how others feel, really good example of how we are trying to keep other people in check (morally) but fail to hold ourselves accountable when we say shit like this.
It's also time to make celebrities be accountable for their wrong doings. If they are cheaters, then block them. If they are abusive, dr|_|g addict, etc. block them. At least now people are AWARE of what the celebrities are truly doing to is, the masses.
@jamescarr1265 they became addict by CHOICE. There are a LOT of ways to fight problems back, but why go to addiction? Let's not defend ALL addicts, because some of them enjoy what they are.
I really wish this was true but people forget and succumb to the norm so easily, I remember this rising sentiment during Covid too, but as soon as that stopped being perceived as an issue, so too did celebrity culture
That’s why it’s a call to block them and not just unfollow. If you unfollow then they can pop up again a few months later and you can wonder why you aren’t following, forget, and refollow. Nobody goes through their block list to see if they want to unblock someone and then they won’t just pop up again
There will always be celebrities. Influencers are just the latest form. Don't get wrapped up in the image they put out. Guarantee you don't really know who they are. More people just know their name and like the image.
I will never understand how people who keep society functioning will always be payed less than someone who sits in a chair telling those very same people what to do. Why does the Architect get paid more than the builders? especially when its far more physically demanding and more dangerous? You can build plans all you want but without the worker doing all the grueling task those plans will most likely never leave paper.
I believe that our biggest power lies in where we decide to allocate our time and energy. If we set an example to practice what we preach and focus on things that better society, then celebs and influencers have no choice but to follow suit and align with the greater society’s values. The issue is that there are millions of people who still dump money and attention on them so until that changes, they will keep leveraging that because it’s a positive feedback loop. We need to direct the energy back to ourselves, develop our own human capital, invest in ourselves and try to ignore the pull of influencer and celeb marketing. When we get off TikTok and Instagram and start focusing on our own lives, that’s when we will win in our own lives and start shifting the narrative. It begins with us.
re: The Met Gala. The negative reaction on social media toward the Met Gala has been happening for a few years now and I kind of have to roll my eyes at some of the commentary around it. It's clear that most people talking about it and how 75k would change their life don't even know that the Met Gala is a literal fundraiser for a museum. It's just very frustrating because that kind of ignorance trivializes some otherwise valid points about celeb worship and the impact these parasocial relationships have on people as far as distracting them from current issues like the g*noc*de in Palestine or even the Conde Nast strike.
Yea but we have bigger issues that could be funded over a museum. A museum does NOT need that much money every year. So either way it's still f*ckin wild
@@KayJoyyDo you know how much money is in rotation in the world? Not every single cent has to be dedicated to ending hunger. That’s on the government to do that and they have infinitely more funding.
@@KayJoyydo you also know how museums work and where that money goes? Or are you just assuming? Preservation takes resources and you need money to pay for those. Now I’m the one assuming but I really believe you have no idea about how that museum operates
I cannot, or my family, cannot afford many groceries regularly either. But wtf has that got to do with celebrities or their lives? I live in India and yes, we have our celebrity culture too, but blocking celebrities just because someone who lives a regular life thinks "those celebrities have 'got it in their heads' and I should bring them down to their places..." that's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. This video, its contents and the comments are why I have a RANGE of sympathy of celebrities... why do you blame them for their fame? they just want to act, dance, sing, do comedy... and maybe get a lot of attention and praise from any people.... but that doesn't mean those little human things they crave (which everyone craves since their childhood honestly) also means they need to get ripped apart by other people. I have got so many struggles everyday AND SO DO THEY. Every human being struggles immensely, just imagine it being broadcasted and criticised by millions of people globally, the magnification of no boundaries, and dealing with everyone's ego on the internet just because you did something,,, and now boom, millions of people can unite against you like a freaking government to bring you down, you can't even make mistakes like a human being, can't even be imperfect because that offends a group of people somewhere else in this world... and again you have to deal with the hate train.. just imagine them being children... what did they do??? I have my own judments, imperfections and egos, against people and I am regularly checking by myself... and by the virtue of being human, celebrities do too... and YOU DO TOO, everyone in these comments and every american video I watch has a LOAD of shit against someone literally just being however they want for a watch time of 6 minutes... misunderstanding it. Now thank god you, your regular human self, is not a celebrity. You would be like "no, i actually love people, i want to be closer to people, i want to grow and progress in my life from all the beliefs i have held as a child..." and that journey is what? it's nothing to regular people because everybody is jealous of you. Everybody wants to tell you what to do in the comment section while being aggressive without even being intimate to you. I would hell as not take advice from any aggressor. You know how it would happen? a close loved one says, "Hey, let's talk..." and tells me calmly about something, as we exchanges stories, and talk about our experiences which led to our behaviours and we both having learnt and not trying to change the other person because we both are just the same.. and we can't change what we experienced and learnt in milliseconds but it will take its time and until then... we have each other by our sides, for everything we have to go through. Now imagine this really intimate way of life, of communication in relationships of human beings... ONE THAT ACTUALLY CHANGES PEOPLE AND TOUCHES THEIR HEARTS.. being totally neglected and you go on the internet and talk to a celebrity like you both know each other and you know the other person is shit or whatever.... stupid as hell. I am just saying, whoever that celebrity is, just acknowledge, remember and remind yourself that they are just like you, and if you have beef with them, unless they are someone you can have regular contact with, you cannot make them change. And also, you can be wrong no matter how many friends have got your back. You are already acting like they hit your grandma with a slipper and will never stop doing that everyday.. while they are, in their private lives, changing and evolving because their loved ones change them, talk to them, caress their experiences... and give them love to be human and grow from their traumas, sorrows and pains... now don't you dare touch that aspect for another human. It won't be pretty if I touch your family life, would it? same for them. All in all, the way everyone is coming for celebrities is stupid. Just leave them alone, they all understand the 75,000 dollars issue, but they are not politicians or people holding "power"... the power of appreciation and attention given to someone is different and invisible compared to "power", resources, and the hand to make or break bread for people in your country.... All in all, I find this cruel, and im just saying you guys are misunderstanding something based off of what you thought, without ever being in a life of the same celebrity you talk about.. it would take for you to be born again and become a celebrity to understand what it means to be one. That's how far the gap is, and rocking shit without that vital understanding of another person in a different job than you, is very regrettable once you grow older and look back in your life.
Look at the musicians at the smaller scales, their music have passion and creativity, and they'll always got overlooked because of how things work and money and fame. These big industries are heavily controlled where they don't have anymore creativity.

Girl that's just fandom culture. It's called clowning because we know it's ridiculous, we are self aware. We are not obsessed 24/7. It's just an inside fandom joke to hunt for easter eggs and clues. Most swifties are grown adults with jobs and families. You would know that if you were a part of the fandom. It's completely harmless. Although some swifties on Twitter always take it too far.
Artists used to reflect the times and what was happening - issue is they are not doing that. Most musicians are not making music about struggle, painters are not pouring into their work about cost of living. Id say Ismatu who does the Threadings podcast has a great episode about this. Like Rage Against the machine, Nina Simone, David Bowie and even The Beatles they would sing about the pain and suffering happening around them these celebs now dont!
I don’t like celebrities, but I admit that there are some that are definitely worth following, the list is so freaking small, but still there re still good people that are celebrities and deny this type of behavior.
But then what normal people are going to become the celebrities. That's not what I want. I don't idolise normal people. If we get rid of celebrities then we need to get rid of materialism and consumerism and all the things as well
this is actually suchhhh a good video you put all my thoughts into words soo well i hope every big celebrity sees this i also think we’ve kinda started seeing the bigger celebrities as just walking billboards.. we’ve taken notice of all the times they’ve casually taken a drink of something with the logo showing perfectly. or the way they casually bring up their favorite new brand or show etc… i think we just know that everything a celebrity says is motivated by money while a smaller influencer is usually just saying their opinion at the worst there’s a sponsorship at the end or a link in their caption but it’s never their entire personality
We are social animals and will always have specific ppl we look up to. They're literally fighting against human nature and that's hilarious. It's a losing battle.
In this day and age where celebrities aren't just artists, musicians, actors etc and we have the rise of the Influencer and even the Reality Star of 20 years ago I can understand where this backlash is coming from.
Sort of happened in the early 90s after the collapse of the 80s synthwave, new wave aesthetic, where the 'new' celebrities were miserable (meaning no offensive, I mean it literally not a comment on their character), and tired looking grunge musicians, and career actors, but celebrity culture came back I'd say around 1993-4 with the emergence of the girl/boy bands and new pop idols. So celebrity culture will whither a but, but it'll be back unfortunately.
The only thing they're doing is creating even more celebrity visibility....literally none of this will Affect them

Also, the issues in the Congo, Sudan, and Haiti tend to be systemic (especially when it comes to the exploitation for minerals and metals). A war is an event. It has a relatively clear-cut beginning and end that is easier for people to imagine.
@@LoneWulf278 The Congo, Haiti, and Sudan also are harder to access for the general population. The oppressed people have long been stripped of their access to the outside world. Haiti, Sudan, and the Congo are exploited by all sides of the international politics spectrum.
They are often also the targets of "aid" campaigns that have never been disrupted in the way aid to Palestine has been controlled. When shows like the Kardashians came up, they’d have conversations with us (me and my sibs) on what happened, the way drama was marketed. They also broke down school/friend drama with us. My parents pretty much made constant reminders of not getting into drama and told us how they handled drama in their own lives (growing up or from work). It was both a reminder and a constant lesson.
It probably also has to do with the fact that we 5 kids are pretty introverted. Aside from that I think the consistency is key.

I love that people are calling out traditional celebs, but influencers need to be held accountable as well.

What you don’t realize is that celebrities weren’t on social media feeds 20 years ago. There wasn’t social media back then. I would watch movies and TV shows, and listen to music and know nothing about the celebrities outside of that context. Yes, they did some press junkets about the movies and music about to be released, but that was it. Other than paparazzi tabloids, there wasn’t a bunch of stuff about celebrities personal lives like it is now and social media. People are not gonna stop consuming art. Unless you want a lot of people to be unhappy, people will continue to consume art. If they’re consuming visual or musical art, they’re most likely consuming something on their TVs or a performing arts center (that isn’t free by the way).

@@blackellegirl I think they mean people should start consuming more indie art/non-Hollywood-centered art, which is widely available online.
I need to talk about this so I'll detail the context to make my point:
People discovered in the early days of social media they could support literally anyone they personally liked.
@@ramunebradfordtake2710 I don't disagree but I feel like we do need to start being a bit ageist. Many parliaments are out of touch with what the young people want. It's better than sitting put and indirectly rewarding the peolpe who have the power to make the world a better place but choose to greedily benefit off millions of people's suffering or act like it's not happening .

$75k would save my life
the amount of things i would be able to get is insane (food, bills, basic clothing, washing products....the list goes on and on)
The major issue is that we need to separate artists who are basically pressured to keep a public profile to sell their work (mainly because there’s no real money in the artistic fields except for the lawyers and finance bros who control the markets) and random people like the Kardashians who are celebrities simply for the sake of being famous.

Celebrities could donate money now and I think everyone would still want to cancel them, so it’s a doomed if they do, doomed if they don’t situation.

You see the attitude of “Can somebody with more capacity then I do X” Is what’s holding us back.
The Met Gala is a expensive fundraiser for a museum, not a charity.

im a actually happy celebrities dont involve themselves in politics. people literally force those entertainers to speak up in something they dont know about. its not their job, they make more harm if they speak abput something they dont get

@@CrocsforsaleNo they are not. Who thinks that, not in my country😂

💯💯
So many of these people wouldn't even give up on their barista job at Starbucks or even boycotting McDonald's for their cause, but they act like it's completely reasonable to demand that others give up on their careers for the cause.

Not really predicting the future. It's been this way for a long time. (Millennial speaking.)
It’s also a great way to harbour fraud via money laundering
Ending it? Gen Z seems to be the only ones who are making money from being social nedia influencers
They're the biggest hypocrites.
They are blocking influencers who misuse their platforms, for example, macklemore is not on the blocklist

If those making money are not scamming and are actually positing good content, promoting good things and/or having ethical businesses then why is this a problem? As long as they don't hurt anything or anyone or promote problematic things, they have every single right to try to get money from the internet
We can't compare a regular person posting a video for their small business and a celebrity making millions.
Thank you for putting this together! Well done and you have a gift for speaking 😊

Gen Xer here: Y'all are the leaders, keep going, so many of us are following your lead and cheering you on 🫡
honestly it's kind of ridiculous how many people are mad about the met gala. it's a relatively niche fashion event that few people care about. less than a million people watched it live and for most people it's a total footnote in their day or week. and on top of that it's a fundraising event for the met museum that enables them to offer pay what you want entrance fees. you have to pay SOMETHING but you can pay whatever you want. last time i went i paid only two dollars. yeah it absolutely is an insane display of wealth that night but also like.... you people NEED to be putting this energy into boycotting amazon and bullying the government into not enabling genocide and reducing subsidies to oil companies. the iof didn't coordinate attacks with the met gala because no one cares about the met gala and also because they've been indiscriminately attacking gaza for over seven months regardless. completely down with destroying celebrity culture but fundraisers for museums should really not be a target until we've solved way bigger problems like climate change and genocide and the cost of living crisis, none of which museum fundraisers are responsible for
How did you end up paying only 2 dollars to go to Met Gala 😳? Could you share the story?
It's not "niche". Millions of people go crazy over it every year. It trends every time. Isnotreal was launching attacks on Rafa as it was happening. So yes, it's important to talk about the Met Gala. And now that it's over, we need to move on and continue to work on putting an end to the gen0cjde.
This is completely wrong because there are Hollywood celebs that are staunchly zi0nist and create fundraisers for the ideef. Celebs are not innocent.

🤣 WoW! Iris who knew you saying you dont give a 💩about celebrities would garner a bunch of trolls👾lmao
It's also time to make celebrities be accountable for their wrong doings. If they are cheaters, then block them. If they are abusive, dr|_|g addict, etc. block them.
At least now people are AWARE of what the celebrities are truly doing to is, the masses.
Being a drug addict is a sad thing and shouldn’t be mocked then they need help
@@KayJoyythis is pure virtue signaling lmao do you know how much the MET operates on?
@@KayJoyyDo you know how much money is in rotation in the world? Not every single cent has to be dedicated to ending hunger. That’s on the government to do that and they have infinitely more funding.

Exactly why I hate big industry music. It's not about passion it's about money for the label. It's not real meaningful music.

If we get rid of celebrities then we need to get rid of materialism and consumerism and all the things as well
this is actually suchhhh a good video you put all my thoughts into words soo well i hope every big celebrity sees this
i also think we’ve kinda started seeing the bigger celebrities as just walking billboards.. we’ve taken notice of all the times they’ve casually taken a drink of something with the logo showing perfectly. or the way they casually bring up their favorite new brand or show etc… i think we just know that everything a celebrity says is motivated by money while a smaller influencer is usually just saying their opinion at the worst there’s a sponsorship at the end or a link in their caption but it’s never their entire personality
But why it would just create more celebrities in a different capacity it creates celebrities out of the people that are blocking the celebrities
We are social animals and will always have specific ppl we look up to. They're literally fighting against human nature and that's hilarious. It's a losing battle.
Celebrities ain't going nowhere. Gen z be on the next hype/trend every 5 business days
They ain't standing on business

I’ve never heard of this movement but I’m here for it. I’m over celebrities but mostly influencers
