    When assembling the grinder be vary careful when tightening the collar. Be sure the auger spins freely. I tighten the collar to tight and the auger didn't want to turn and I ended up having to replace a couple of gears.

    The KitchenAid meat grinder cannot go in reverse unlike most stand-alone meat grinders. Reverse comes in handy if you're grinding meat for dog or cat food. Skin, sinew, cartilage, and bone can jam up a meat grinder and reversing the meat grinder is the easiest way to clear a jam.

      If you're going to grind up your own raw pet food, then get a stand-alone grinder of at least 1/2 horsepower but ideally 1 horsepower. Can get a LEM brand one for $300 to $450 depending on the horsepower.

    I just bought one. Some reviewers didn't do their demos fairly and made it look bad, but they were just not fit for the kitchen. I WOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT THE PLASTIC ONE, BUT THE METAL ONE IS KICK BUTT. Now I have the meat grinder, pasta roller 3 pc set, the Gourmet Pasta Press, and the juicer. Gonna get the rest of the tools and some vinyl cling real pretty decals I saw on Etsy, and a dust cover for my mixer. Right now I just put a shower cap over the 5 quart bowl to keep dust out. I'm gonna make a whole wooden cabinet for all my kitchenAid extras pretty soon. First, though, I gotta order the rest of the attachments so I can tell how to design the custom cabinet. I may put it on wheels and sit the mixer on top. It's too tall for the countertop anyway, so I keep it on the table. Thanks for making a fair demonstration. I haven't gotten to try mine, yet. I'm a busy old girl trying to create something legendary to pass down to my oldest child. You made me feel a lot more secure in my purchase.

Stumbled upon this high quality brand on YT. I didn't get the most powerful one as I only grind 10-20 lbs at a go. Hunters who process entire deer, bear, elk etc swear by the "Carnivore " line from Cabela's. This metal KA attachment looks superior to our plastic one for sure.

    I've got a KitchenAid stand mixer and have not bought the meat grinder set for it. I did, however, by the Cabela's small meat grinder for grinding my burgers and it does a fantastic job. So, while I do have the KitchenAid stand mixer that can do this as well, I may never really need to buy this extra accessory for meat; I'll just keep it for cake and bread mixing. One of the reasons why I do not use my KitchenAid mixer that much is the weight. Mine is the larger mixer with the bowl riser. However, my Cabela's meat grinder is lightweight, easy and super quick to set up, and cleaning is just as easy and quick. I take it out of the box and ready to grind in minutes. And once done, I was it well, dry all the parts, and put it back into the box within minutes too... easy-peasy.

    I got one of these a couple weeks ago - did watch this video first - and I'm happy with it. I only grind a little meat for my wife and I, to make beef and pork meatloaf, a little sausage, hamburger, etc. It's fairly simple. If you use one, just be aware if there's any leakage of fluids back through the seal into the body of the mixer - that could be real bad in terms of just getting nasty. This should not occur with a mixer and grinder in good condition, but do watch for it. Grinding your own meat is worthwhile if you do a bunch at once and freeze it. It would be an awful lots of work, just the clean up, if you used it for small batches. [edit: as I mentioned in a reply, now that I have used this several times, it's not that much work cleaning it up, even small batches are worth while.]

      @xray7908 7 місяців тому

      @@davebrown6598 Hi Dave, thanks for asking, but mine works great. I have a KitchenAid branded grinder, and the seal on mine has never leaked. I was just warning others that I've heard of this being a problem for others, so it is good to be careful and check this before putting it away. It only takes a moment to check it as you take it apart from the mixer. I just made some chili this week with some chuck roast that I freshly ground very coarsely and some pork I ground a couple months ago and froze. It made a chunkier chili than usual, very nice. Now that I have used it a few times, I don't even consider it that much work to clean it up, so I'll also update this to say it's worth using even if you are doing smaller batches.

    I had the original plastic one back in the 1990s. It was a pain, due to the plastic parts.
    I hope this means they will come out with an all metal pasta press. The plastic one is for the birds.

      Margi, the KitchenAid grinder is not rated to grind bones. You would need a much more powerful grinder for bones. We reccomend the LEM Big Bite Meat Grinder #12 for grinding harder items like bones (but is also great for grinding meats too!) You can see the grinder here: evkitch.com/3Bx8xnl - We can ship your grinder for free! If you have more questions on grinders, let me know and I can help out :) -Chef Austin

      The best way to grind bones for pet food is to first cook the meat (chicken, beef, etc) in a pressure cooker. The bones become soft.

    if one partially freezes the meat before grinding as suggested, is it okay to freeze the burger patties or sausages after creating them? I know it is not a good idea to re-freeze raw meat.
    Thanks.

    • @BarmanBean
      @BarmanBean 4 роки тому +3

      Holly Blaney no issues. And honestly, you can refreeze raw meat that’s been properly thawed and handled without issue. GugaFoods does a video on that, you can look it up.

    Read on another blog that one should freeze a meat grinder for an hour before use. It that really necessary or even something that would be recommended for this particular meat grinder attachment?

    • @EverythingKitchens
      @EverythingKitchens 4 роки тому

      Nancy Heaps - yes! This meat grinder can be tossed in the freezer for 20 minutes and that will help the grinding process as well - the cold metal helps to prevent fat in the meat from melting and gumming up. We were doing a smaller batch, so just partially freezing our meat worked just fine without freezing the actual grinder too.

    If you don't have a fine front blade, use the coarse one, and simply cycle the minced meat back through the mincer till it's fine enough. Home made bangers from pork shoulder, remember, won't contain preservative, so freeze them or use them as per fresh meat.

    • @EverythingKitchens
      @EverythingKitchens 2 роки тому

      Richard, the grinder is for sure powerful enough to handle ingredients like that, but it sounds like it would be a hot pulpy mess and not very efficient. KitchenAid does have a fruit and veggie strainer that may be helpful: evkitch.com/3nUsrOY - - - But if you want full juice, a dedicated juicer would be the best option: evkitch.com/32PUtXv - - - I hope this helps!

    • @EverythingKitchens

      Hey Myriam, I would use the largest hole grinding plate for steak tartare. If the pieces are too large after that, consider hand chopping after that to get the exact consistency you are looking for. I hope this helps!

    Off topic here, but I love that copper mixer. Is that the Copper mixer that costs much more than Copper Pearl? Do you know WHY it costs more? Also, can you tell me if the copper will patina later? If so, is there anything one can do to prevent the patina?

    • @EverythingKitchens
      @EverythingKitchens 4 роки тому

      Hey Laura, thanks for admiring our mixer! Yes, this is the Satin Copper mixer and it is much more expensive because the body is made from solid copper. There is a finish over the mixer that will prevent patina, we've been using this one in the test kitchen for years and it still looks good as new. Add this to your wishlist: evkitch.com/SatinCopper - It looks like we may get refurbished models (at a MUCH lower price) of the satin copper color in eventually: evkitch.com/3ko0i2j you can sign up to get notified when they come in stock!

      Hey Roger - I love Irish white pudding! You'll want to run your meat through the larger hole setting 1-2 times, then once through the smaller hole plate to achieve the consistency you are looking for. I hope this helps!

    For the sausage, do you need to grind it twice?

    • @ronc4146
      @ronc4146 3 роки тому

      It is recommended to grind sausage twice, using the smaller hole pattern plate. Most sausage has a denser, finer, more consistent texture than ground burger meat (where you want some gaps to hold moisture, fat, juices, etc).
