    When assembling the grinder be vary careful when tightening the collar. Be sure the auger spins freely. I tighten the collar to tight and the auger didn't want to turn and I ended up having to replace a couple of gears.

    The KitchenAid meat grinder cannot go in reverse unlike most stand-alone meat grinders. Reverse comes in handy if you're grinding meat for dog or cat food. Skin, sinew, cartilage, and bone can jam up a meat grinder and reversing the meat grinder is the easiest way to clear a jam.

      Hi, thank you for this comment. What grinder do you use for your pet food? Iam just starting out. Catladyfitness uses a Vitamix professional..300..I believe, it works for her purpose of raw cat food. Plus meat grinders can be pricey...but, just seeing what people are using for raw pet food at home. Thank You!

      If you're going to grind up your own raw pet food, then get a stand-alone grinder of at least 1/2 horsepower but ideally 1 horsepower. Can get a LEM brand one for $300 to $450 depending on the horsepower.

    Time and again I hear and read about chilling the all the metal parts of the grinder attachment to minimize friction that could cause warmth to develop. Another thing is to ensure those same metal parts are thoroughly washed in hot soapy water, then placed in a low oven until completely dry.

      Only thing is be careful with this because there is a plastic part inside the Grinder that keeps food from pushing though the back go the mechanism into the mixer itself. If you get that too hot well it's gonna melt

    Great video. I've watched a few and one handy tip you missed was once you're done grinding put a piece of normal bread into the grinder. It gets the last of whatever you're grinding out but once you see bread coming out stop grinding. That way you get everything out and makes clean up easier also

    I got one of these a couple weeks ago - did watch this video first - and I'm happy with it. I only grind a little meat for my wife and I, to make beef and pork meatloaf, a little sausage, hamburger, etc. It's fairly simple. If you use one, just be aware if there's any leakage of fluids back through the seal into the body of the mixer - that could be real bad in terms of just getting nasty. This should not occur with a mixer and grinder in good condition, but do watch for it. Grinding your own meat is worthwhile if you do a bunch at once and freeze it. It would be an awful lots of work, just the clean up, if you used it for small batches. [edit: as I mentioned in a reply, now that I have used this several times, it's not that much work cleaning it up, even small batches are worth while.]

      The kitchenaid meat grinder is the best! But yes! I had the same issue with the liquid getting into the mixer.
      It was sooo nasty! My mixer was smelling like a dead animal. 🤮
      I returned the mixer. I wish there was a way to keep the liquid out.

    • @xray7908
      @xray7908 Рік тому +1

      @@davebrown6598 Hi Dave, thanks for asking, but mine works great. I have a KitchenAid branded grinder, and the seal on mine has never leaked. I was just warning others that I've heard of this being a problem for others, so it is good to be careful and check this before putting it away. It only takes a moment to check it as you take it apart from the mixer. I just made some chili this week with some chuck roast that I freshly ground very coarsely and some pork I ground a couple months ago and froze. It made a chunkier chili than usual, very nice. Now that I have used it a few times, I don't even consider it that much work to clean it up, so I'll also update this to say it's worth using even if you are doing smaller batches.

    I've got a KitchenAid stand mixer and have not bought the meat grinder set for it. I did, however, by the Cabela's small meat grinder for grinding my burgers and it does a fantastic job. So, while I do have the KitchenAid stand mixer that can do this as well, I may never really need to buy this extra accessory for meat; I'll just keep it for cake and bread mixing. One of the reasons why I do not use my KitchenAid mixer that much is the weight. Mine is the larger mixer with the bowl riser. However, my Cabela's meat grinder is lightweight, easy and super quick to set up, and cleaning is just as easy and quick. I take it out of the box and ready to grind in minutes. And once done, I was it well, dry all the parts, and put it back into the box within minutes too... easy-peasy.

I could have KitchenAid HIRE ME and I could redirect people to USE THE POWER OF YOUR KITCHEN AID... as it is so POWERFUL..... to SET UP YOUR KITCHEN FOR SUCCESS AND EFFICIENCY.... THE POWER IS IN THE MACHINE>.. you just need to attach the accessory.... from spiralizer, shredder, grinder, food processor.... my pantry is FILLED with large bulky items... also, as an organizer freak>..... one of the big draws to me is the nice SAME size stacking storage containers for the accessories...... really... Ihave so many ideas of how to best market this.... as I am 56 years old and am looking back at my love for cooking; cost for kitchen equipment... if you read this call and I can share.... as I think you are MISSSING and MISSING BIG on your presence in this ACCESSORY market, and SAVING SPACE for people who are trying to cook healthy for their familiies.... my list of ideas on this are BIG...

    1) The feed hopper is awkwardly shallow, and needs to be deeper.

    • @EverythingKitchens
      @EverythingKitchens  5 років тому

      Nancy Heaps - yes! This meat grinder can be tossed in the freezer for 20 minutes and that will help the grinding process as well - the cold metal helps to prevent fat in the meat from melting and gumming up. We were doing a smaller batch, so just partially freezing our meat worked just fine without freezing the actual grinder too.

    • @EverythingKitchens
      @EverythingKitchens  5 років тому +2

      Rebecca Shirkey-Solan, you can use the KitchenAid metal grinder the same way! just use the largest grinding place to quickly chop your cooked chicken or ham. If you want a finer consistency, switch to the second smallest grinding plate and run the meat through once more. Great suggestion! I'll have to try this next time I have leftover ham -Chef Austin 👨‍🍳

I pushed on it and turned it slightly and it seated. This plastic one is small and not like my old cast one. No comparison. Guess I need a new metal one.

    I don't know why my meat does not come smoothly. Can please give me some ideas of how to go about it? Like how cold should the meat be? How long should I keep the meat in the freezer? I am really frustrated.

    • @EverythingKitchens
      @EverythingKitchens  Рік тому +2

      Hey florenceugboko, here are a few things you can try:
      - put your cubed meat into the freezer for around 30-45 minutes to were the meat is partially frozen on the outside (but not fully frozen).
      - put the meat grinder itself into the freezer for 30 minutes to get it cold as well.
      - some meats are naturally more mushy like high-fat content cuts of beef and poultry. Having theses kinds of meat semi-frozen will help them come out smoothly.
      -work quickly - the ginder will start to heat up as it is working and your meat will start to come to room
      temperature quickly as well making for mushy meat coming from the grinder.
      - if you are having issues with grinding through a second time, put the 1st pass of grind on a piece of parchment paper on a tray into the freezer for 20 minutes to cool it back down, swap out the grinder blades, then grind for the second pass.
      I hope these tips can help you! Please let us know if you're still running into issues and visit us at everythingkitchens.com for our customer support team :) -Chef Austin

    • @EverythingKitchens
      @EverythingKitchens  2 роки тому

      D Hansel, this grinder (also the Kitchenaid Mill attachment) is not reccomended to grind coffee beans - the oily coffee beans are not good for the metal gears and grinders of these machines. We reccomend a burr style coffee grinder for your beans. They'll do the the job much more easily and you have much more control of the coarsness of your grind. You can shop all of our grinders here at our store: www.everythingkitchens.com/coffee-grinder.html - - - I hope this helps!

      It is recommended to grind sausage twice, using the smaller hole pattern plate. Most sausage has a denser, finer, more consistent texture than ground burger meat (where you want some gaps to hold moisture, fat, juices, etc).
