    I respect that he showed that you shouldn't spray clear coat on Plasti Dip. Instead of just trying to sell something he showed its not a good idea. Because of that i think i will buy some and use it on some of the things that it is good for. Nothing like honesty. It's almost extinct in company's now days. Again Good Job On Your Video.

    I literally just finished plasti dipping my 06’ Ford Focus. Spraying the Plasti Dip was very easy to spray, if sprayed correctly. However, like the guy said in the video, spraying the clear gloss coat over the plasti dip makes it much harder to peel off. I am very happy with the look of my rims tho.

    Shoulda mentioned keeping it dipped can maximize resale value because the paint and clear coat underneath will still be like new, and corrosion can be mitigated. I would like to see how well plasti-dip would protect the under-side of a vehicle through the years in cold climates on a brand new car. If I ever bought a brand new car, I would most certainly want to protect as many parts on the under-side as possible.

    deep south Alabama area, we have "love bugs" that come out every Memorial Day week and again Labor Day week. they usually last about about month. The love bugs build up on the front of your car and ruin a paint job fast. The smashed bugs eat the paint off. I plan on trying clear plasti-dip on the front of my car this year to see how it performs in protecting the paint against these corrosive bugs.

    A few questions I was interested in having answered was, Whats the life expectancy of the plasti dip, if i had my vehicle plasti dipped. Does it become brittle and chip away over time? Also if I decided to plasti dip do I have to worry about the plasti dip peeling off as a result to rock chips, scratches on the vehicle?

    • @positivethinker3750
      @positivethinker3750 9 років тому

      Great Questions. I'm just as curious. Does it stand up in cold weather as well? Living in Georgia we experience all four seasons. I too, would like to know life expectancy, rock chips, and scratches. How do they affect the remaining plasti-dip that is on the vehicle. Is it just a chain reaction after that?

    • @Jaguar7444
      @Jaguar7444 9 років тому +3

      plasti dip can withstand up to i think 345˚F, also im more than positive its not going to freeze off your car. also with that said its not going to fade or crack or peel off unless your'e the one doing the peeling off. now against rocks being thrown at you, from like cars ahead of you on a highway or a main st. (ect)... well lets just say you would see a den't or a gnarly scrap before it would start pealing off.... I mean I had someone try to key my car and all it did was make a few bumps in the plasti dip and a line were the key had gone down my car. But the original paint was still good and scratch free.

    the only issue i have with plasti dip is, as a detailer, most of the chemicals i use will melt the plasti dip right off. i had a car in the shop and wasn't told and didn't know the rims had been dipped and not clear coated. my wheel cleaner melted it completely off. if you aren't going to clear coat it, and take your car to a detail shop, make sure to let them know what parts are dipped.

    Does plasti-dip have any acoustic benefits? The material has the appearance/feel of a light rubber coating. I'm curious, will this work like a vibration damping product? Have you done a tap test to see if panels resonate as loudly after several solid coats of plasti-dip? Thanks.

    • @philliesomasound
      @philliesomasound 8 років тому +6

      I read somewhere that it actually does reduce noise by absorbing the vibrations. I don't have a better answer than that but even though it has the word plastic in its name the bottle states it as a rubber coating

    • @rich1051414
      @rich1051414 8 років тому +2

    Hi. Thanks for the video. We just plastidipped a new truck for a car dealer (client needed a matte green for hunting purposes). We liked the finished product, until the sales person and dealer principal tested it - WITH ONLY THEIR NAILS! The plastidip showed grey scratches - and the car dealer cancelled the whole project. Yes it protects the car, but it seems that the Plastidip itself will suffer from its own marks in a short space of time and loose its appeal, requiring a re-spray.

    We did this with some parts of my wifes friends car, plasti dip with paint and clear coat by krylon. Funny part is in the video you say 2 coats of plasti dip, everyone knows 2 coats of plasti dip is not enough to even start to peel properly. We did 5 coats of plasti dip and painted it with 3 coats of yellow kylon and 3 coats of high gloss krylon, 5 weeks later we peeled it off with zero issues just as if it was plasti dip by itself.

Btw put up some cool vids and color codes of a lexus gs300 1998. Thanks, keep up the good works

    I keep showing this to people, so I made a little listing of the questions answered:
    0:56 Can you spray clear coat over PlastiDip?
    2:57 Can you PlastiDip over primer? If you can, will react OK and can you peel it off?
    4:24 Can PlastiDip withstand heat?
    5:11 Will it fly off once the car is in motion?
    6:13 Can I wash it?
    7:20 You just ruined that car! Isn't it permanent?
    8:10 Why? Why are you PlastiDipping your car? Why would you do this? Please tell me why!

    Good video, but in your explanation as to why you would plasti dip your car, my answer would be to protect the clear coat and paint underneath- Rock chips, rust, UV rays, etc. peel it off when you're ready to sell and the paint underneath should be like new!

  • @johnsuddeth4893
    @johnsuddeth4893 8 років тому

    I do have to say that as far as not ruining your paint I haven't had a problem except for my mirrors. I had white mirrors and put red plastidip on them, after a year I peeled them to redo them due to fading, and the mirrors had turned a pale pink.

    I've used Plasti-Dip on pretty much all my cars since I discovered it, from rims to emblems, it is the best REVERSABLE customization tools out there.My only comment is, you should post your upper body workout regiment and see if it get as many hits as your Plasti-Dip videos.

    Regarding the first test (clear over dip) I’m glad you were honest and said “2 coats of PD” I don’t like when testing is manipulated to sell you’re product. I understand why you would want it to look like the product you sell yields better results... why would you only build up a 2 cost PD surface to apply the clear coat to, when is almost every PD video you say almost always start with at least a 5 coat surface build up. Especially because that’s exactly how Plasti Dip is made to work. The more you have built up the better it’s gonna peal. Like when you say to purposefully build up the over spray around the tires when dipping with wheel so the overspray will peal up easier. I promise you if you lay down a decent 5 coat Plasti Dip surface with proper dry time you would have absolutely no problem getting a solid peel consistency. When you only do 2 coats of PD the clear can basically seep down onto the original surface and I’m surprised it even peeled as well as it did in that little corner with only 2 layers. If you want to sell a product cool sell a good product and you should have no problem and you do. But don’t test a product and not use it how it’s intended to be used just so you can manipulate the results that’s kind of bullshit. If I would’ve seen this video first before the other 10 videos I’ve seen where the pill back was no issue at all after laying a proper surface of plasty dip down I might have thought it wasn’t possible to get a good solid peel using anything other then Plasti dip products.

    How about a heat resistant plasti dip that repels water for example to use as a complete under-body undercarriage protector (under coat) ? Everything from the bottom of the engine and exhaust components like the cat converters and cherry bombs and glass packs to the a frame and shocks?

    I always plasti dip my cars the second I get them, even if it’s the same exact color or close to it. It’s a few hundred bucks and lasts years. After that you take it off and do it again. If you ever sell it, you just peel off the dip and the paint is perfectly new, and sometimes you don’t even have to wash it it’s that good. You’d be surprised to see a 2005 bmw with a brand new original factory paint job.

    i used the clear coat from the black chrome wheel set sold at part stores i used that clear and the plasti dip and it still peels like plasti dip even after 5 coats of clear and it made it SUPER glossy i did it on my sport bike and it held up amazing and after 6 months it still came off like normal plasti dip it was just 10x harder to start so just an idea for anyone it worked way better then plasti dip clear

    They look good but it lacks the deep shine of a clearcoat,even with the glossifier. Fonzie sounds a little frustrated b/c clearcoat is very difficult to remove. If clearcoat is sprayed over it, it will look even cheaper. At least you can change the color of your car once a month
