- My friend wanted to change the color of his car but didn't want that normal flat black that the black plasti dip leaves so on top of the base coats from the black we added the shadow black plasti dip.

Why tape off the front and rear windshield to save product if you're gonna spill a quarter of it in the driveway, spray it on the side windows, the wheels & tires, the headlights, the taillights, the side mirrors (not the housing), as well as the radiator?

Radiator is covered lol I didn’t get to record that part but he liked it drive it for a year and sold it the buyer liked the dip too so idk what to tell you bud 🤷♂️

lol dip your car used to say to spray the windows then peel. I found out it’s 100 times easier to tape off. I’ve come a long way feel free to check out my shorts or my latest video! I’ve even done a c8

I would try and do this indoors as 1 bug getting stuck and trying to get out could really ruin one section. Also good would you mess up inside near engine. Also tape off wheels and do them later. And pick different color. Kinda looks a bit cheap. However, good idea and start. Different strokes for all the folks!
Lol we were broke college students at the time. I now have my own house and garage been wrapping them with a better coating and my prep has gotten better. You live and you learn lol

Yes we put cardboard so no dip would go into the radiator

Yes we did lol next time I’ll show that so people don’t get so butt hurt. There’s enough space from the radiator to the bumper to fit cardboard we put a little cesars pizza box sideways in there.

Sorry just got back into my UA-cam and seen your comment I would recommend liquid wrap it has a slightly higher start up but the matte finish is self leveling good for diy but if you get into pearls or 2k gloss it’s tougher. Check out my shorts I did a 370z

why not mask off the windows and headlights? would have taken maybe 10-15mins?
cuz its a waste of time..ur supposed to apply 4-6 coats then when u done the headlights and etc peels right off hellooooooo its peelable
They used to say to spray them and peel them but now I just tape them off to save material
Actually looked great, did you use that same kit for the wheels? I thought they had a separate kit for the wheels? If that is the case then I might as well not waste money on the wheel kit then
I used the same kit for the wheels because we had extra. If you spray the wheels with the dip gun it looks a lot better.
Oh ok sounds good... I ordered mine and it just arrived. I wanted to ask if plasti dipping outside is a big issue, I don’t have a garage or anything and I heard that if you do it outside the bugs and stuff can mess up the end results? I also wanted to ask if the dipping process left a mess like on the grass and floor because I’m planning on doing it at my friends house and I don’t want to make a mess.
As long as you’re careful there shouldn’t be a big mess but it’ll come off if you spill it. You can do it outside and get a great result just make sure it’s not windy and that you’re not under a tree. I’ve done four dip jobs and have only had bugs get on one and what you do is carefully remove it while the dip is wet and with another coat you won’t be able to tell. Also big thing anything you taped you want to pull after your last coat and before it dries bc if it dries it’ll get fused with the dip and peel some dip when you take it off.

Yes, we didn’t cover the side windows and was enough to get those too. It peeled in 3 seconds. The shadow black is a bit tricky. Make sure it’s wet coats or else you’re going to get tiger stripes. I suggest checking out dipyourcar channel and no worries man I’m here to help

You put a piece of cardboard in between the bumper and radiator so nothing gets by.

Thank you! I switched to a different product I shoot it thru a paint gun. It lays way better and last longer. Check out my other video I did my girls mustang or check out my shorts I have it on there. I start the jobs at $900-1600 the $1600 includes a nice gloss that after it’s cured it can be wet sanded and buffed.

@@noahodell5817 rail, I like it because it lays down better but you do need an airless paint sprayer. I use a 1.3 tip. I’d suggest the fuji with top feed mount.

This one is old but like 7.6 liters. Check my new video of the mustang that I did that one was 3.8L of primer and 3.8L of color it lays down better than plasti dip
why do you do matte black and then shadow black instead of shadow black all the way?
That’s how the kit came I guess shadow wouldn’t lay without flat
Mines faded quick from the sun. My cousin had to use the top coat too
I had that with plasti dip too. I switched over to liquid wrap and my fiancée car still looks fresh after about 2 years
what equipment did you use?
I used the gun they sell on their site but if you see my UA-cam shorts I use an airless paint sprayer for the liquid wrap

Yes I was a broke college kid at the time. Check my short I did my fiancée’s car with liquid wrap in the garage with a paint sprayer.

The black yes but I’d recommend rail coating it’s what I use now. I have a short where I did my girls mustang and it lays amazing

That’s the only spot and we put it through the gap in the grill but we didn’t have to remove anything.

Am I missing something here? Why didn’t you mask off the lights, tires, sunroof, windows…etc? You sprayed it right on the windows. I’m so confused.
Because if layered on it’ll peel off. He had ordered more product than needed so we sprayed the windows then peeled them.
you masked the windshield and the back window to save paint. why not just mask the other windows? and the wheels, and the headlights. i bet masking material is a lot cheaper than the paint.
We were going to have a ton of left over plasti dip and at the time that’s what the company recommended to save time. Now I mask it off. It’s way easier to deal with lol

The windshield? To use less product. At the time dipyourcar would spray the windows to make it easier to peel. I tape everything now

It lasted very well! He traded the car in so we peeled it right before he traded it in. It peeled in whole panels which was great.

Radiator had cardboard infront of it but the windows we sprayed and peeled off but yeah screw the breaks he can yabadaba do it lol
Not my prefered way of dipping, I am more into prep but honestly Fonzie used to do the same when he started. Not bad all in all. I love Plastidip, did about 10 cars so far.

when you use DYC products, they recommend hand washing , as too much pressure from hosing could fade your paint and even give it a ripple effect. when i used it i hand washed mine and left it out side year round , first paint job lasted until i got ready to rip it off (6 months of hand washing, leaving it outside in the exposed heat , granted trees for shade) and it held up pretty well.

Rust-Oleum has a better spray very similar to Plasti Dip but my opinion my bias opinion I think it's a lot better it goes on better and it doesn't glop.
