After 20 years of riding Ducati I changed to one of these 15 months back. It’s a superb machine for any task including touring. A 250 mile day is no trouble.
Good to hear!
I owned one for 2 years touring on it was not good ,the fuel tank was too small,if you pushed on it fuel consumption was heavy,I was constantly looking for fuel stations after 140 miles,it needs 20 litre fuel tank
@@donnawillson1516 I had the same problem with a Rivale that i owned. Damn fun bike (useless for touring though), but the fule-consumption combined with a small tank made me sell it after only 1 year. Such a hassle.
@@donnawillson1516 I ride a BMR1250R. Very comfortable and impeccable handling and relaxed ride, with superb low rev acceleration. It does over 60 mpg and 250 mile range on the bike is true, though don't go much more than 200 miles on a tank. Sometimes I think I want to change for a more fun bike, but which bike, I cannot make up my mind.
You need to try the old 919 hornet 4sure.
Just bought one back in April. I don’t believe other motorcycles exist anymore. This bike is just all the way around an awesome bike.
A great concept to give impressions of a bike simply by the seat-of-the-pants experience. As you said Andy, it is what it's all about! More pure feedback than going in with full specs, competitor data and unavoidable preconceptions.
I tested one of these on a dealership ride day a couple of years ago , and compared to my daily rider it was like a jet fighter. Very impressed with how solid it felt.
Great quick and dirty review Andy, very pleased it all finished off with a positive roundup as I pick my brand new one up on Saturday morning! 👍😁
Congratulations - nice machine, I'm sure you;'ll love it!
Got one last year and felt exactly as the review stated. Its like a perfect balance of everything. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Just love it. Thank you for the wonderful review. This bike definitely deserves this kind of appreciation. Cheers!
Cheers - and glad we concur!
Thanks for another AWESOME review, it dose not have to be a 30 min review to be a good review! Blessing to you, and your family.
Thank you! Much appreciated and thanks for watching!
Switched to CB1000R+ from my first big bike, Suzuki SV650. I feel so much secure on this one (well no wonder since SV was a budget built bike). I love it! Goes well, handles well and looks gorgeous!
Great review Andy. Pleased to see you appreciate the bike. Had mine nearly a year now and love it. No really issues as such, I’d do however find putting fuel in it a bit of a pain because of the bar across the filler. You can’t get the nozzle in the tank that far so you need to add fuel slower that usual otherwise it splashes all over the place. It does tend to get quite dirty as well, I get spray over the rear seat and up the back of my jacket. Apart from that it goes as fast or as slow as you want it to without complaint, it’s reasonably comfortable over longer distance and returns a healthy 52 mpg.
Thanks for the real world info!
Just bought one last week. I had the intention of buying a CMX 1100 Rebel, but also testrode this one, and i've never ever abandoned a plan so quickly. This bike is just amazing. Easy handling, good power, very light indeed even though its 214kg. Great review!
Good swerve from the Rebel I say!
For lights, I’ve just picked up one of those flashing ST2 systems for engine braking. Great quick review, it answers that question when you check out another bike on the road and think ‘huh, wonder what that’s like to ride?’ Glad you decided to record!
Thanks!
Love the look of this bike. One in my list to certainly try. Great review as always.
Thanks Andy, I was looking at these in a showroom earlier today. The burgundy/purple coloured ones look great.
I like these a lot. I’m a big fan of things like the R9T and Speed Twin but they are clearly retro and something of a design cul de sac. This updates the classic look nicely I think. It looks solid and purposeful but also elegant and balanced to my eyes.
Totally agree
Nice review….not surprised reference your observations and summary. A dealer tried to get me to test ride one back in 2014 saying it was one of the best 4 cylinder naked he had ever ridden. I passed and bought a Blade. Wish I had taken up his offer …….. new model looks lovely especially in the dark red / maroon finish.
Stunning bike with looks that won’t date, plenty of grunt and comfortable to ride. Good natural review too, didn’t overanalyse the thing
What a lovely looking machine, really like it . Great video Andy
Many thanks!
Thanks, as usual for your review of what looks like a great 'all round' motorbike. Not one on my radar at the moment, but who knows now. Would be well worth a little look.
Always liked the look of these later CB1000R's. The comfort you found surprised me a little, i always assumed they would be scrunched up in the leg dep't. Nice review, thanks as ever.
As you would put it Andy specs wise it looks to be in the Goldilocks zone too. 213 kg 143 hp 830mm seat height, decently priced and being it's a Honda no Warranty anxiety to worry about so if you were after a long term keeper the red one would look great in anybody's garage. Lets hope a few people test ride this bike after seeing your review as I suspect for most of us that initial impression is very important.
I work for Vertu Honda in Nottingham, when I first went out on the black edition I loved it didn't think I would coming from fireblades etc!
fantastic review 👍
Thank you for watching
Morning Andy, nice quick review. Looks a nice bike, nice smooth power from the four cylinder engine. Would be good if you could do a longer review on it at some future point.
Thanks for the kind words....and maybe!
My first Bike was a old CB 750. The CB has quite a history.
Good one mr Flyer! And yes, numbers don't tell that much really. It's the feeling!
Thank you!
You got that right!
Superb camera view near to the centre line which makes you feel like you're actually riding the bike. Great job and a really good review..
Thanks a lot!
I'm actually contemplating whether to buy one of these and now I've seen your review I'm going to get a test ride and if I like it I'll probably purchase. Cheers for the review
My pleasure!
Nice one Andy, definitely got a hint of Speed Triple about the styling which is no bad thing.
This is quite an enjoyable format! I'd love to see more of these flash reviews.
Glad to hear that! Thanks for watching and for stopping by.
@@TheMissendenFlyer No, thank you for the content!
...my pleasure!
Great quick review. That bike is a little bit under the radar, but clearly deserves a wider audience. Sounds like a good bike. 👍
Yes it is a good bike, I guess that's the problem, it's a bit "meh" - nothing outstanding but a solid ride.....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Doesn’t that also sum up the GS?
Not to me - to me the GS is good at everything not just average.
@@TheMissendenFlyer But considering the cheap price... For most outstanding characteristics you will have to pay a premium
I was lent one of these when I took the 350 Forza in for a service, agree totally, a very refined, smooth motorcycle, which when you want it to go faster it does in a very unflappable way, a Honda. Was very impressed overall.
Nearly bought one of these but opted for 1000sx. Only reason was for touring. Great fun bike and maybe my next purchase. Had loads of fun on it.
Same. Had 650 bought sx incase I go touring
The SX is leagues above the 650 but still fancy trying the 1000r 😂
Looking to test ride one tomorrow. Need to upgrade my 2020 Speed Twin to something with a better suspension and can take on the track a few days of the year. Thanks for the review!
Great off the cuff review TMF . Nice looking bike and being a Honda well made and reliable.👍
Ive been looking forward to this review Andy since you dropped the Gold Wing off! 🙂 For a new bike with all the euro gubbins, i think it looks great, especially in black.
Yes it's a nicemachine for sure - love that smoooooth engine....
The unplanned review worked really well. Might be a great idea for all first rides and then give more specs in follow up. Great video 👍👍 very good looking bike !
There's a thought....
@@TheMissendenFlyer I second that, I too would like a 'How it feels' first ride review, followed up by a 'Tech Spec and Details' second ride review.
I have the 650, but have always had my eye on the CB1000R. Ridden it a few times and loved it
I had the cb650r and loved it.
The tail tidy meant the back under seat got very wet.
The radiator area held a lot of water in a storm hence I got rid eventually. The effect was I was doing an IAM test and both he and I thought the radiator had burst initially as steam was coming off.
Anyway it was fine for a few month later but I upgraded to ninja 1000 sx which is leagues above
Great off the cuff review Andy the bike looks really nice keep up the great vids 👍
Thanks, will do!
I like this review. I really do believe it is how a bike makes you feel that is the deciding factor (it certainly is for me).
I agree 100%
I Just bought a 1000r+ no issues so far 👍🏻
nice review, beautiful bike!
Canadian owner here. Love the bike, but fully recognize the fueling is handicapped by euro 5. Bigger feet will rub the single sided swing arm with your left heel a bit. Stock exhaust sounds wonderful throughout the range. Happy to be the owner of such a beautiful looking bike.
No fueling problems on my 2014 with a Yoshimura 3/4 cat delete exhaust. My only complaint is it's a bit cramped but that engine and the handling makes up for it.
I love the swing arm mounted license plate
Sounds like a very balanced design.
Every time I watch one of your videos I get an urge to drive on the left side of the road. So far I have resisted the urge.
Good idea to resist assuming you're not in the UK.....
A friend recently had one as a courtesy bike. He rides a Hayabusa but, he spoke highly of the Honda. I tried it out for size, and at 5'6" tall, it's a good fit for me.
Nice one mate! I've had this since they came out march 2022, and been using it for commuting. Interesting about it is that it feels lighter and easier to handle than my 675 triple! I was well shocked. Would be happy to ride out with you on it :)
what year was the 675? I own one and it feels very light already so this is surprising
@The_Hippykiller 2012, dual exhaust under seat but the bug eye headlights, not the round ones. Loved it a lot, but then decided to get a cb1000r, due to its retro looks. Would have kept the triumph had I had the money
My friend just bought one of these 2 days ago. We went for a ride and switched bikes for a bit. I loved it!!!! Fantastic machine! I now want one!!! So smooth, plenty of power, comfortable, perfect!!!! (My bike is a 2023 Harley Low Rider S. Love it too, but want the CB1000R as a second bike!)
Great video Andy 😊
Thanks! 😀
Great bike tmf, really really really think you will end up with one of these after you ride 🙂🙂🙂 top bike
You've not seen my review?? Outrageous 😅
I watch all your videos John, you know that!
I absolutely love my 19. Basically anytime your hitting redline your breaking speed limits. The best mod I've done was a full Exhaust system with an ECU flash. It absolutely turns it into a hooligan bike with massive power gains in the midrange.
Can I ask whose exhaust system you bought and what companies ECU?
What brand is your full exhaust system? Baffle in or out? What gains did it achieve post flash ion the Dyno? As I’m looking at doing the same with mine. Cheers.
@@marcusgeorge1825 Black Widow Header pipes with the akrapovic homologated slip-on. I had the ECU bench flashed so I don't know what the actual dyno gains are.
@@jobe20001 Thank you. Appreciate your response.
Ive been waiting for this review since i watched the service video. was beginning to wonder if something happened to the footage. i quite like this style of review.
Glad to hear that - thanks!
As you say nothing not to like about CB1000R, solid bike and you get that well known Honda reliability for a pretty good price.
It's a beautiful machine, love it. I considered one when I bought my MT09sp as well as a GSXS 1000...a coin toss. More grown up than my MT...I want all 3!
My dream bike. Gorgeous!
Love this bike. Big brother to my CB650R.
Great review Mate
Cheers!
Great bike, have owned one since 2020 & covered 11k miles with no real issues. if you're a spirited rider approaching 100kg in gear you'll pretty much certainly need a replacement shock as the STD one is far too soft in terms of spring rate & damping, i got the forks set up as best i can & they're ok but nothing to shout about. Replace the exhaust & do a Woolich flash & you'll gain 20bhp in the middle (about 6k rpm), really transforms the bike. Only other 'major' thing i've done is fit heated grips which are a godsend on a cooler day.
Love the review, as you said the bike was completely off my radar too but a friend & i got a silly good deal on them - the bike has totally surprised me, even when i took it on track!
Replying for reference when I get one
Woolwich flash is confusing me
@@majordelays4909 in what way is it confusing & I’ll try to explain. Do you know what it is?, it’s a custom ECU remap if that’s better terminology? 👍🏻
Thanks for a fun review, and I like this “quick and dirty” concept: numbers are only 1/2 the story. More than once I’ve been convinced by the numbers but a test ride made me walk away. (I love the bike, too. I wish I needed a bike like it.)
Yes you are so right….perhaps I should prepare less and do more of these type of reviews!
Awesome bike! Great review! Thanks and cheers mate! ;-)
Thank you too!
Nice change of review - the 'quick and dirty'! Agree about the fuel guage - I have a Triumph and it takes a mile or so to register the change. However, if I've just filled up I know I have a full tank - the business end is when you're running low and Triumph handle that well.
Fair point!
A cracking 'off the cuff' review and maybe some more of this style in the future? As for the CB1000R, I love it and yes, it's one of those 'under the radar' bikes.
Lovely looking bike 👍
Terrific bit of kit
Nothing like the silky smoothness of an in-line four. Love ‘em. 🍻
Couldn't agree more! ....except maybe a flat 6 ;0)
@@TheMissendenFlyer Sneaky loophole! 👍
I am proud to own a cb1000r. It’s a great fun bike. Replacing the hugger with a tail tidy is a major task. It also makes the bike horrible in the we.
In its stock form the hugger does make it very difficult to access the bolts to tension the chain.
Other than these small gripes it’s a glorious fast bike that makes me smile
Thank you Andy for yet another a great review! I have been looking at these for long time and was wondering , will be on the same fun factor level as my STriple 675 R?
Nah, it's won't be I'm afraid.....or indeed the CB650R....
I have a 2019 and it's by far the best bike I've ever had. The only downside is the rearshock is a bit undersprung but, a new nitron sorted that issue
Ive been riding one of these for 4yrs, amazing bike, love it, rear shock is very average though
its a brilliant bike love it
Really interesting review and quite eye-opening for me: here is a "modern" looking bike, almost all of which I think basically look like metal mosquitos....and yet here we have an example of a modern bike that looks classy, balanced and harmonious. It's not a boy racer but it's got plenty of muscle in a beautifully crafted and compact form. Looks to me like it could become a classic over time.
Yes I think it has that potential
Thanks for the review Andy, I’ve had my 2019 CB1000R since January.I had a break of 23 years between owning a bike and getting the CB1000R, so i am taking it easy, getting used to biking again etc. I really can’t fault the bike, its easy to ride and really rewarding, it puts a massive grin on my face every time i take it out 😃. Keep up the great work, 🍻 cheers D 😃🙏
Sounds good - and thank you, will do!
whats the insurance like on one of these?
So funny you mentioned about fuel and triumph. I never knew about it until I got my trident 660. Filled a full tank the bike was registering empty. 😂
Very interesting 1 liter naked. Honda always delivers. Have to agree on the looks, she means business. Professionals always think on the fly, ready for anything. Excellent review. 🎩-Tip.
Another great video! I’m still not sure how much I like these new tft screens that are on newer bikes. I have enough screens in my life. An LCD dash is enough for me. In fact, best dash I’ve seen is the one on the Kawasaki z900rs.
Edit: if they put wireless Apple car play/android auto on the screen that would be great for maps but they don’t.
Totally agree!
A great little review- Andy it seems that you’ve discovered that it’s a Honda!!!
Think I could drive about your local area by now 😂 never been a huge fan of Honda to be honest. But this does look like a very nice bike. Thanks for the dirty review, something to try 👍
You expressed it early in this review when you commented about not knowing the bike's specs...The specs really don't matter, as our enjoyment of riding comes from the ride itself. My first ever experience on a bike was at age 13 being taught how to ride on a Honda SuperCub - yes, all of 55cc, and it was the most exhilerating thing I had ever experienced in my young life. Over the years I've been in many a conversation with fellow motorcyclists, and specs and performance numbers get tossed around ad nausem. But riders seldom talk about how riding makes them feel. And to me, that's all that matters. For many years I chased the fastest, most highly regarded bikes, only to realize in my waning years that I rode because it was fun... and any ride beats walking! Nice review.
Couldn’t agree more!
Its one of those bikes when you see a picture off it you give it no further thought then you see it in the flesh/metal and you find it hard to tear your eyes off it:p
I'd definitely consider one of those. Quality Honda goodness. I'd want a tail tidy to move the plate up though.
That was a good Video!
Thank you!
Nice review & a pretty bike. Looks very classy. I much prefer these super nakeds to the extreme hyper nakeds for the road as they still have way more than enough go & seem to be more sensible in every way. Also on the subject of helmets, Shark have just released the latest SKWAL which is apparently first helmet with an integrated brake light on the back, so they claim.
Yes saw than in MCN....
I have a previous model SKWAL as a spare helmet and I wouldn't buy another unless they have massivly improved the visor mount clips and wind noise.
@@Psycholib111 Interesting & good to know. Putting a brake light on the back of it won't fix any of those issues either.
It really is and exceptionally pretty machine. I've wanted to ride one for years.
Great impressions review - thank you. As a fairly new rider, can I ask what your issues are with supermarket fuel, and also with keyless bikes? Thanks very much.
I have no issues with supermarket fuel - some claim it's quality control with regard to additives isn't as good as branded forecourts. I find keyless the answer to a question no-one asked! Another thing to go wrong that could leave you stranded. Does make sense on some bikes (notably my Goldwing where it locks all the panniers too)....
Got a CB650f 2018 at the moment, but would upgrade to one of these on the strength of your review and if i had the readies. The only thing i don't like is the number plate hanger. Great looking bike and cracking review.
Thank you....
I had a 2002 Honda 919 (Hornet 900 in UK) that I loved dearly for the three years I owned it (2002-2005) except the way the exhaust would swirl around my back and make me smell like exhaust all day long. I bought that 919 off the dealer showroom for just over $8k out the door. Those days are long gone. This bike is everything I wanted my 919 to be all those years ago. Alas, I need some longer legs for this bike and 20 years later, I'm looking more to a GW.
Nice quick review you can change the quick shifter there are 3 settings I just leave mine in medium by the way you did review the 2018 model which I also had it’s basically the same bike but now has euro 5 engine and new tft
Regards David
Aha - thanks for that David....
Refreshing not to have to endure the all the specs, well done.
….if I don’t do them I get complaints for that!
Cracking bike cracking review
Thanks 👍
As always, a great video and informative just a little point regarding supermarket fuel, the only real difference between any of the fuel you get is the amount of additive that goes in as a tanker driver I have delivered additives to various locations and you will invariably see all the different companies loading from the same terminal someone is bound to rubbish what I've just said but I'm talking from experience oh and I love the old fashioned word MACHINE LOL
So basically nothing to choose between them - is that what you'ree saying?
I'm getting this for a few weeks while my XSR900 is being fixed, can't wait to see the change in power 😅😅
I love that 1frame of disclaimers XD
Well spotted!
Great vid and review. I like this machine though I'd probably lose the license plate holder and mount the plate up under the rear upper fender.
Aah Tesco fuel station, I recognized that one just outside the Chalfonts. I put £50 in my S6 there which I had just purchased to see the mpg back to East Sussex, I was pleasantly suprised
1000 cc, over 140hp, and it can "keep up with traffic" lol 😀. Made me chuckle. As ever, a great video ❤
Great off the cuff review Andy - seems like a great second or third bike!! A fun naked bike ... I wonder what the colour options are like - black seems the incognito macho rouse nearly every manufacturer offers - oh for the BMW colours haha! Thanks Graeme NZ
Cheers Graeme - good to hear from you as ever....
Looks a perfect commuter bike with the odd sunday ride thrown in for good measure.Cheers.
Lovely bike! My son has a CB300R and it is a fantastic little bike. The 1000R looks to be loads of fun. Thanks for the review!
I know it's not the latest or greatest but this bike looks so good, the best looking standard for sure. Seems very refined and does everything well
Couldn't agree more!
You know what I never really think about Honda’s to much when looking at motorcycles on my daily autotrader search 😅 but on my way to work I do see a couple of these CB’s and they look and sound pukka 👌
in a previous life I would 100% have one of these! it sounded awesome....it looks awesome....and its got the detuned fireblade engine in it. it doesn't suit the kind of riding I want to do now....if I had room (and money) for two bikes....this would be my other one. Thanks for the review.....I even enjoyed virtually riding it :-)
Glad you like it!
