Hi from Greece. I have the same bike almost two years and 20k km done. I agree with almost all of your complains especially the rear shock and the soft paint. I've changed quite a bit of things such as full exhaust system by akrapovic, lithium battery, mirrors, brake and clutch levers etc. Despite all gripes I absolutely love this bike, and God permits, I'm going to make it better with new mods. It's a bike that never let's you down or be vanilla as they say. Also it is very trustworthy in terms of handling and power delivery. She is my love and you are going to feel the same.
@@AndyManCam those are very unsettling news to me. Mine is fine till now I suppose. But cause I'm curious please do explain how is comming off. Like fainting or like little chips? In any case you should press Honda to fix it. If your dealer is uncooperative send Honda an email with photos.
Slow reply! It was wearing off the front from the spray from the wheel AND it was flaking off the side covers as the aluminum was corroding. It took lots of arguing to get Honda to swap the engine casing, but they wouldn’t even accept that the paint from the front of the engine wasn’t normal. Apparently it was my fault for getting the bike wet.
@@AndyManCam I am /was a big Honda fan. But now I have moved away from Honda because of the poor build quality. I have a triumph, z1000 and 2 Honda cbr929 ( when quality was good) the z1000 I have just bought (2015) leaves the cb1000r standing for quality. Shame as I liked the Honda but will not spend good money on something that looks shit after 6 months . I think most bikes now after 2018 have gone down hill. I hear Harley Davidson are in trouble now and the new triumphs are starting to have problems now they are made over seas. Stick to pre 2018 bikes if you can
I’m in the process of buying a new bike and today I received an invoice for the labour to fit the factory accessories I bought. I argued the case with them because there was no indication that there would be a fitting charge. My argument was that “in my day” (yes, I’m old,) there was never a charge for fitting factory extras. And now I see your video and lo and behold. It’s standard practice. 😮. They waived the charge for me btw.
They’re swines!! TBH i counted that as another bonus with this bike, that the labor costs were already in there as the parts were already fitted! 😅 Very happy to hear that you got your money back though 👍🏻
I did a quick look through the comments and didn't see it addressed but the adjustments to engine braking happens via the electric throttle bodies. If you select less engine braking the TBs open slightly more on decel and this reduces pumping losses of the engine. With the hand throttle closed the fuel injectors are turned off regardless of the engine braking setting. Love the videos, I'm leaning towards getting a cb1000r in the spring.
I've actually fitted a set of R&G traction pads to the side of the tank. So the scuffs are sadly still under there. Maybe one day I'll polish them out with some T-Cut and polish. That or get a respray with some REAL paint! www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/253690/#/27945,3255,0
I prefer your FZ1 to this bike, the Honda just looks like I mismatch of parts that don’t seem to go with each other. But you love it and that’s all that matters. All the best from a equally wet UK.
I have considered the throttle body possibility. But it looks pretty complicated on this bike! More pipes than a Scottish marching band! I'd also rather hoped that the bike would come from the factory, already set up as good as it ever would be. Naturally I know that that that sadly isn't the world in which we live!
I own a little Honda CB125R, I did my DAS training on a Honda CB650R, and both have the exact same problems as their big brother the CB1000R: headlight, fuelling, horn button, etc. I fitted a pair of SW-Motech bars to my CB125R, and then I fitted a pair of cheap after market Chinese LED spotlights. To be honest, I didn't think they would last, or be any good, but, they've been fantastic! They're much brighter than the factory fitted Honda LED headlight, and come with various flashing modes. They also give you a wider spread of light, so together with the main headlight, everything in front and to the side of you is lit up. I've also used them as extra DRLs over the winter, and I've noticed a big drop in the number of car drivers pulling out on me, obviously, not a 100% drop! Every bike I get from now on will be getting spotlights fitted, they've been a godsend, unlike the Honda LED headlight, which is like having a candle on the front of your bike!
@@AndyManCam Yep, you'd expect the Honda units to be a lot better. I was very disappointed with the output, but putting the spots on has really helped. There's a mode where each spot will flash independently, giving a strobe effect. It would be great to use when filtering, but I've not tried it because it's probably not road illegal!
@@AndyManCam I had a fireblade needed something more comfortable , the choice was a good one in the end I just had to get used to the change and except I’m getting older 😂
I'm glad you said all those things about the CB 1100CC. I almost bought it, but decided to get the new Rebel 1,100 cc instead. Got cruise control, strong thick metal paint and no vibration. I got 7,000 miles on it already. Oh and no chrome anywhere. All black everywhere even the forks. The ergonomics are a little funny. Im only 5'10 " and it is pulling on my shoulders after a couple of hours.
Happy to help Andre. These are after all, the things that you can only really learn after having had the bike for a while. Enjoy the machine and hopefully you can iron out those ergonomics issues.
Yep, agree with the horn and indicator positioning, out of line with 99 percent of all other bikes i have owned( 30 plus) so have had to recalibrate my brain /hand dexterity, only a small detail but, not so small as not to be annoying.
2 entertaining videos, I don’t suppose there is a bike where everything is spot on. As long as the bike puts a smile on your face that’s the main thing
Sehr geehrte Herr. ManCam, Kannst du bitte make a Zwei year update weedeo? Would you buy the same Motorbikecycle again? Or if one we re to put aesthetics aside and remap a günstigeres FZ-one. Would that be the bike to get for Yeeting ones self down the autobahn? Gruße aus München
I have to agree with you. I love my CB1R but the #1 gripe I have is the terrible headlight. It might be OK if you drive in a city with street lights but going around corners on a dark street results in 0 light on the bend driving into pitch darkness. Not good if you live in an area like I do with many deer. I've just ordered the SW-Motch engine guards so I can mount some aux lights to it.
have a look at the booster plug, real time AF correction whether the bike is stock or you have a slip on & air filter or full race system the booster plug will sort it,got one on my SDGT with de cat link pipe & end can & motorhooligan race filter & velocity stacks ,bike runs spot on.
Bro, reagrding the scuff marks on tank paint you mentioned, i took mine to a Paint specialist 400 miles from home & they waxed it with Ethos Product & then coated it entirely with X-pel Advanced film. It looks WOW & it is Now Protected for years to come 👏 😍
I note that other makes models are moving the position of some of the switches. Yamaha have moved the passing light switch to the high beam switch on some models. Could this be an edict from the EU or the USA?
Possibly. Or just the jostling for space due to all of the fancy control buttons needed for the TFT displays that all bikes are slowly being kitted out with.
@@AndyManCam I keep hitting the "select" button (which is where the flash is "supposed to be"), which cycles the various trip meters on the MT - years of muscle memory mean I can't remember to hit the "high beam" button for the flash...
Whilst your other vid shows you love the bike, this vid is maybe indicative that you'll be trading in when you can afford it as there are too many significant dislikes imo that will gnaw away at you. After 2 years of ownership there was only thing I *hated* about my 1290 SAS and that was the stock screen. I love everything else. Superb and mental machine. The stuff you listed would do my head in!
No chance! There's nothing here that I haven't had on many other bikes that I've had for years. The fact that there are 11 likes vs 11 dislikes bears no relevance to how much I like this bike overall. ALL bikes have their 'things' and this one is no different. But make no mistake, this is the best bike I've ever owned. It's also the bike I like the most out of everything I've ridden since I started this channel! Otherwise there's no way I would have put down my hard earned to get one! Trust me, such decisions are not made lightly in the AMC camp!
I personally wouldn’t buy another CB1000R for half that. I bought mine new in 2020 for €10k and sold it in 2022 for €6500. Just didn’t hold it’s value. Plus the paint on the engine and engine casings was flaked, corroded and furry, as well as all the nuts and bolts being furry and soft. It’ll be the last Honda i ever buy.
Glad to help Chris. Not many long term owner reviews of this bike out there. I loved it at first, just like all the other reviewers did. But the romance didn’t last forever!
Andy. Once again I thank you for another fine video. Didn’t realise how bloody poor that headlight beam is. Honda really need to address that as a major safety issue. Dunno what you were doing riding about in weather like that . Disgusting and certainly not conducive for motorcycles. Did you know for conditions such as that you can purchase something called a car…….!!

Great video Andy. I just recently (in november) part exchanged my 2008 CB1000R for a 2016 Yamaha Tracer 900. I had a great 4 1/2 years on the CB and made a few nice tours on it, but was ready for a change in ride especially after riding around 8 years on a Honda (before the CB i had a VFR800FI). The main reason for the change was the seating position of the CB, i would get a lot of leg cramps when riding longer distances (200Km+), apart from that it had been a very reliable machine, great handling but not very economical. The older CB had the same problem with the rear shock being very standard and not the best quality, for the rest no complaints. I have packed the Tracer away for the winter now, as the weather has gone downhill now here in the Netherlands, and now waiting very impatiently for the winter to pass so i can get back out on the road again.
Many thanks Phil. I considered the original CB1000R when I was looking at the FZ1N and was put off by the tight cockpit. Certainly seems like they've improved things with the new one. I find it way more comfy than the Yamaha was. Also seems the economy is vastly improved too. Lucky that, what with all my touring! That reminds me, I must go and wash the Honda, as I haven't been avoiding the disgusting weather! The things I do for you guys eh!?
Soft paint: I always put a Baglux tank harness on my bikes. Most of the other negative points don't bother me, apart from the weak headlight. Maybe the new model's is better.
What you don't like regarding the soft paintwork is the same on Kawasaki. You even don't have to think about to touch the tank unless you don't want to have some new scratches... Why they don't be able to put some extra (harder?) clear coat on it? Your pain with the filling cap, believe me, the Japanese ones are huge. Try to fill up an Aprilia Shiver 750, you might need a pipette. Is the yellow-black style just for the dark season?
rumor has it they had to avoid using some hardener due EU regulations (i bet minorities were under-represented in the factory where they make it) i am sure they will figure out something that's yet not banned within couple of years tho
Seems we all have to be careful about our new soft paint then! The Yellow and black was a bit of a forced change as the only things Oxford wanted to send me were yellow! 🙈 Not my favourite!
Know exactly what you mean with the full beam, I ride with full beam as normal and nobody seems to be dazzled by it, also fuel filling, not sure if it's the tank but when I fill up I twist the pump nozzle with ninja precision but the fuel already in the fuel line goes over the tank just as I am about to put the nozzle in the hole!! really pi..es me off..
Holy shit everything is spot on, having this bike myself I thought you were going to be way too harsh and unfair but nope, everything makes sense. The fuel filler cap/bar is so frustrating, I spray fuel everywhere every 4th or 5th time, especially when I'm tired. The only thing is that my rear shock works great because I'm a naturally underweight person, and I don't notice the harshness, it feels very plush to me. The point about the paint though is something surprising, I thought my paint chips were from just bad luck on a mountain road and a couple stones but hearing what you said made sense, paint should be able to take pebbles or cars that drive on the highway would be covered in chips! Great video.
Cheers mate. Sadly I’ve also discovered that the paint on the engine is made of toffee too. The spray from the front wheel has already worn down to the metal on the sump and the left engine cover has stone chips down to the aluminium. 🤦🏻♂️
I've always thought of that bar in the fuel tank of Hondas to be a way of getting the bike correctly filled whilst it is on the side stand. Might be wrong though.
No idea really. Could be. To be honest it ended up being a non-problem and i just got used to it. If you’re so desperate to fill up that quick, then this is probably the wrong kind of bike altogether! 😂
@@AndyManCam Yea I tought so. I just recently updated my Versys 650 with Versys 1000 and the power advantage is awesome, especialy two up. Just curious about your oppinion. Ride safe !
I’m not surprised! The engine in the V1000 was splendid! I think the Honda is maybe a tiny bit buzzier, but with a little but more surge to power delivery (in a good way). Some of that could be down to the stripped style though. Either way, they’re both great bikes! 👍🏻
I like the low mounted plate enough to deal with the faffy adjustment. Luckily the chain oiler keeps things from needing too much adjustment. Decat just isn't an option here in Germany. If the law were ever to find out, then the bike is suddenly no longer deemed roadworthy :O
Over here it’s near impossible to even get an illegal plate. The TüV and tax stamps are put into the Plate by the officials. So if the plate is wrong, you don’t get your stamps. If your stamps aren’t on the plate, then jonny law notices pretty quickly!!
I don't understand why youtube hasn't auto generated subtitles for this one and the other one that goes with it. Very strange. I'll see what i can do, but manually creating subtitles sadly takes days of work! 🥺
Hi, are you saying you're not bothered by the looks of that exhaust?! 00:19 IMO it looks dreadful. Christmas is here, so you can upgrade! To Andy, from Andy... Best regards & happy Christmas from a Z900RS owner ( where stock exhaust is just lovely :=)
Sure it’s not as handsome as a piece of Akra titanium, but it’s not the worst I’ve seen by a very long stretch! Sadly the only present I’ll be giving myself is a set of tank pads! As long as the bike is running well, i can live with the can as it is for now. And with austerity measures being imposed indefinitely, for the foreseeable future too!
Not even the new 2021 model has cruise control yet, all the big nakeds have it, and the not so big ones are starting to have it too. I just can't understand why Honda is still missing on this!
Guess they just don't want. Heard somewhere that Honda say both hands belong on the grips if u ride a sporty Honda. Would not wonder if they advise us in next manual to wash our hands. Ye daddy Honda, got it. :D
I guess because they know that people will buy it anyway! That's what happens when you create something a little bit different and it gets put towards the hipster cool bracket. People will buy it, even if it doesn't really work as well as the others, because it's cool!
I didn't bought this bike only because of this, and I know more people saying the same. With the cheap MTs all around I wouldn't joke about sales so much, Honda is losing turf every day now, at least here in Portugal.
For sound try a K&N air filter. My Ninja 1000 has an even more awesome intake noise on power and now has a few pops out of the stock exhaust on over run since the change. Cheaper than an aftermarket pipe.
I did consider that actually Mick. But I'm concerned that it'll have the same effect as the Mivv endcan did. Make the bike breathe a bit better and exaggerate the lean areas of fuelling, therefore increasing the vibes. Still might be worth a look though.
@@AndyManCam Look at this vid from Matt @TheWorkshop ua-cam.com/video/-rkoQUNZ2Fw/v-deo.html - video titled "new exhaust makes bike run lean" I did ask the question about K&N filter so look in the comments for a possible answer.
Given you’re in Germany, have a look at Wilbers. I’ve got their 641 shock on my Z900 and the difference it made was fantastic. Being just down the road from Nitron, I would have gone with them but the closest comparable shock they offer is the R3 and that was £150 more expensive than the Wilbers. Best money I’ve spent on the bike. Incredible difference the way it was setup when it arrived and even better still once I got it dialled in properly.
They seems to be pretty solid shocks with a great reputation. Will have to wait a bit though as they're still pretty pricey! Maybe santa will drop one off...
Very much agree with the comment on accessories, wanted the same and seat cowl and front shieldy thing are $900 here in NZ, no thanks, also agree on limitations of the rear shock, filler cap and front mudguard comments, apart from that really happy with mine.
The horn/indicator thing is IMO where Honda was actually right to swap them. The indicators button is closer to thumb than the horn, which reflects everyday use of those two.
I find that the indicator button just falls easier under the thumb where it is on other bikes. Sure in theory, it seems like having it closer to your thumb is better. But I think that it's more about the mechanics of the thumb. Central to the bar enables you to get more leverage and more control of the movement of the thumb. Still, I'll get used to it... eventually...
I run a Honda crossrunner for a whole year then I sold it headlight wasn't great bright spot just directly infront then dark then another bright spot in the distance (l.e.d) front mudguard rattled alot on back roads and front folk yolk was rusting at 2 yrs old and 2.000 MLS on clock and it was hard work in the twistys 243 Kg might of been the problem bought a new vstrom all good so far.
It's a real shame. i lived for years with rubbish Yamaha headlights. Now it seems that just as I jump ship, Yamaha have good headlights and Honda are rubbish! Typical!
In this video, it's a bit complicated! On the Helmet I've got a Hero 8, on the bike there are 2 Hero 6's. The in helmet audio is being recorded by my iPhone 8 which is connected via bluetooth to the Sena 10C EVO. The background noise is then being recorded by a Zoom H1 audio recorder which is in my jacket pocket.
Thank you brother I could not agree more on pretty much every thing you sed the head light is crap at best and in my opinion looks naff as well I would really like an after market one to come out its like every thing about the bike look great until you look at it from the front end and all the beauty stops there...that cheep mud guard iv considerd getting painted or just getting a after market one.. we might have to wait a few more years for some after market goodies..
Thanks for the series of videos! I have some gripes on my 2019 but not necessarily at "loathe" on the big CB's faults. I definitely agree with these faults, minor an annoying: -mid-range buzz in bars (which seems to correlate with the flat-spot in power delivery. I'm surprised I didn't notice that making your list) -soft paint that won't wear well (any recommendations on how to protect it?) -OEM parts expensive, yes... (The OEM heated grips are worth the money, I promise! But the $180 faux-aluminum "Meter Visor"? Hard NO) -I'm seriously considering going Evotech or Yoshimura to delete the rear hugger, relocate tags to normal place for simple chain adjustments. Huge advantage of the single-sided swingarm is not having to deal with alignment like with my previous CB's -Similar to the previous design flaw but worse on a daily basis: What is up with the FUEL FILLER crossrail? -Yep, cruise control should be standard on Honda's flagship standard . Not on my list, but interesting: -I've hit the horn once by accident (I'm a Honda guy) in 900 miles. The contoured turn signal toggle is easier for me to reach than the pivoting horn switch. -I think the sound is delightful and growly, but not annoying (US non-California model possibly different?) -Rear shock is much better than my 2004 599 Hornet... so not saying anything at all. On my list, not mentioned: -I miss my magnetic tank bag, I guess they're using aluminum now. (But I guess it would only worsen the paint protection issue) -already mentioned the flat spot in the power band, but it's very Honda in the "VTEC" mentality. I don't mind it as it's similar to the power delivery of my B18 Integra and K20 Civic. Both great cars! Cheers!
I never said that the sound was annoying! Check out the other video and you'll see that I love the sound! I just miss the pops and cracks on overrun. This bike is surgical and almostz german in it's exhaust character on deceleration! Plus the Tank is steel. I was using a magnetic tankbag just last week!! Maybe your tankbag has aluminium magnets? 😜
Can't beat an owner review for the full picture. Accessories are mad, £400 plus fitting for Honda heated grips on my 2018 CB1100EX too, no thanks, Oxfords do the trick for a fraction of the price. Silly fuel tank filler the same as well. Please fit a Wilbers 641 shock on the rear (comp/rebound + preload). I fitted the 640 (rebound only + preload only) to the rear of my old Daytona 1200 and it is magnificent.
Cheers Terry. Totally agree mate. If the Honda grips were half the price, I'd consider it for the seamless integration and the in dash diplay. But more than four times the cost of a perfectly good set of Oxfords is really taking the michael. I'll hopefully get the budgetary clearance for a better shock in the new year. Have to wait and see where the job goes first though!
Two great vids again amc. I have the little brother CB650R and I must admit I love it. Mostly. The fuelling/engine braking/throttle off throttle on is, rather lumpy (I am a new rider, so it might be me) and oh my effing father of baby J, attempting to fill the thing with petrol. It’s sooooooooo annoying. Lastly, I get a few false neutrals, which may be me, but I don’t think so. Other than that , I Bloomin’ love it and can only imagine the 1000 version is just better. Natch
Many thanks David! The 650 is also a stunning looking piece of kit! Is your headlight any better though?! I reckon you could probably smooth out the throttling with practice. I think that coming from my super Jerky FZ1 has given me Jedi-like throttle precision now! I've had a fair few falso neutrals too, but have managed to reduce it by just being overly 'motivated' with my shifting! Keep enjoying that CB mate!
Great video. There is always going to be little niggles and big pluses with any bike. I have a suzuki GSR 600 and a versys 650. The GSR I have had for nearly 8 years now and has never let me down, the suspension is a big let down on it and I wished they had used LED Lights on it but actually with 50k miles on the clock, I still have it and enjoy it and still puts a big smile on my face. The versys is great, again suspension a little bit soft but more adjustable than the suzuki and actually its a great bike to ride for what I am into. In a way should have gone for the 1000 cc or the 1000sx tourer because I love inline four engines but actually I do like the parallell twin and its so good in fuel. I bought the 650 cc as it was relatively cheap for the 2013 model and I wasn't sure if I would get on with that style of bike and didn't want to pay too much for the pleasure of finding out. Test rides just aren't long enough, so I took a punt and glad I did. Good job on the videos and I look forward to seeing more. Glad you still enjoy your bike, afterall its only you it has to please :)
Totally agree Grant. No bike is ever really 100% perfect, but this one has the core features pretty much nailed. Little bit of money thrown at it, and it'll be well sorted.
@@AndyManCam its great, but I understand it's not accessible for everyone. Good luck finding a solution. Did you think about adding long range additional lights ?
@@AndyManCam What do you mean by "attached directly to the headlight?" The headlight is attached by two screws to a part the dash is attached to. cdn.powersports.honda.com/documentum/MW01/08R72-MKJ-D00.pdf (fig. 4 a 5) Or do you mean "other headlights would not fit those screws?"
the wind protection is a must if you on the highway its gets very old when you going at speed so I would never buy a bike without one i have had both cruise control is also very nice to have for the price of this bike there is a lot of negative points you mentioned it would bother me as well vibration is annoying as well....Thanks for the video
Most Honda inline 4 seems to have this nasty buzz and vibration around the 5000-6000 rpm range. I've seen this first hand on CB650F, and have heard it exists on CB650R.
I heard somewhere (unconfirmed) that Honda didn’t bother with balance shafts, to reduce cost and complication. Not sure if it’s true, but the buzz was angry and spoiled a great bike for me. Could also be fueling as it seemed less with high octane fuel.
Hahaha! Maybe you actually will if you start to have the paint woes that I'm having! The oil sump is completely stripped and the front of the engine is going the same way. Honda says it's 'normal'. Even if I keep this bike for a while, Honda won't be getting another penny out of me in the future!
I miss the 7,500€ that I had to stump up to get the CB! 😜 I do also miss the noise sometimes, although as I said in the other half to this series, I've grown to love the turbine sound of this bike. I also miss the somehow better rear suspension of the FZ1. It was also a bit budget, but FAR better than the toss on the back of the CB!
Blimey Andy makes me feel i want to sell my 1000R , I actualy bought standard 1000R and then bought the plus kit for £1000 pound extra which made it good value, I do agree with the soft paint though i have a couple of stone chips on my tank after 6000 miles but have bought some self healing clear protective film for the exposed areas have not fitted yet but will let you know how i get on with it......
Noooooo! I LOVE this bike! But that doesn't mean everything is perfect! Sure if you want all the stuff from the plus pack, that's not terrible value. I only really wanted the quickshifter and the cowl. Hopefully I'll be able to get them both a bit cheaper in the aftermarket area! Keep enjoying that awesome bike Tony!!
In this video, I was in the Oxford Continental Suit. Full (winter) review video coming soon. www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/433537/#/27945,3255,0
Should have bought the PLUS version that would give you quickshifter, heated grips, seat cowl and all the aluminium blink for £1000(incl optional pillion seat)
I wonder if you couldn’t have bought one in the UK and ridden it home to Germany. You would have scored massive discounts on what is a a very poor seller here. My local bike dealer had a mint nearly new one in for ages that he couldn’t shift due to competition from KTM, Yamaha, BMW etc. You would also get a load of accessories thrown in and fitted for free?
Nah, that would have been wildly complicated with the import and registration paperwork. Plus the entire first service interval would have been eaten up by motorway miles. No fun at all! I'm not really all that sad about the extras TBH. I'll just go aftermarket for everything. Plus I actually got 3 grand off the price over here and delivered to my doorstep! :D
Re cruise. Completely unacceptable for Honda not to include. Have you considered MC Cruise? I just installed one on my 2020 and it completely transforms the experience. Works flawlessly. Unfortunately, I may have bought the last one as I see they're now sold out. All the best.
I put Honda heated grips on my cb500x and they work well, plenty hot. I've had quite a lot of inline 4's over the years and they all have varying degrees of the annoying vibes syndrome. I also have a mt09sp and am really impressed with the lack of vibes at all of the useable parts of the rev range...It may get a little bit viby at the upper limits I don't really know because my adrenaline has me on too high of a buzz ;).
The 4-6k rpm buzz is a characteristic of all flat plane inline fours. Nominally a high revving engine like this would have a balance shaft to mitigate them, but it seems Honda minimised them enough to not blow the engine apart and ditched the balance shaft. It's a good weight/cost saving, but it brings out that annoying resonance.
Wouldn’t surprise me for Honda. Everybody else is concentrating on how to make smoother engines (except for Triumphs T-crank!) while Honda sticks with the same lump from almost 20 years ago in the hope of clinging to when they were at the front of the engineering pack. While simultaneously keeping prices at the same level as the more advanced competition, despite the age old tech. You’re only as good as your last game Honda!
@@AndyManCam Eh, don't forget, the currency is worth significantly less today too. That said, I don't think any flat plane i4 bike engine made today comes with a balance shaft. I shall have to take a look. If you want proper silky, buttery smooth power, look into the CBX1000. A good inline 6 stays dead smooth from idle to redline. But... it's from the '80s lol
I know all about them. One of them still wouldn't stop the mudguard being horrible! I'd rather swap out the whole thing with something either more sporty or more retro, and then fit a fenda extenda to that.
Hey Andy.. sounded like myself there with all the same gripes but as you said theres more to love than hate and you only have to look at it to know you've made the right choice. Think the rear shock is a must but yeh not cheap. Thought you would have mentioned that annoying noise coming from the front. Any further forward with that one? 👍👍
Actually yes! I realised that it was coming from ME! The riding position was causing me to hunch my shoulders and hang my head forwards. This in turn was deflecting wind from my shoulders, directly into my ears. As soon as i started sitting up like an adult and holding my head up, the noise stopped! It’s also meant I’m getting less neck pain on long rides. Double bonus. Not sure if it’s the same for you, but amazing that after blaming it on the bike for so long, turns out it was the loose nut behind the handlebars! 😂
I understand that crash bars can sometimes cause vibrations. Pops and bangs are caused by poor fueling, or they're created artificially by the manufacturer because some people like it 😉
It’s definitely the end can in this scenario. Maybe because the stocker provides the right amount of weight to dampen the buzz, or maybe because the fuelling gets a bit leaner. Guess I’ll never know. The pops and bangs on ‚modern‘ bikes (EFI) is created on purpose by the manufacturers, but not because people like it. It’s because of the air recirculating systems that allow fuel to burn in the exhaust, thereby improving emissions. 🤓
It's kind of funny, but the LED headlight on my Honda would be a major like and in the other video if it was me making these. I do not have the same Honda LED as you though, I have a 2020 Rebel S. Mind you, I came from old tech bulbs, so anything would pretty much be an improvement. I once drove my car across two cities and a lot of highway without noticing I had accidentally put the small parking lights on, and not the main lights. Did not notice the difference. :P The Rebel though, has lovely lights. And it looks like the new Rebel 1100 is getting the same headlight as the 500, so that is probably a good thing.
The real funny thing is that the LED headlight IS in the other video and I DO like it! But the function of it is undeniably terrible! I'd imagined that with the newest tech, it would be amazing. But it really is worse than anything I've ever used with old tech bulbs. Very disappointing!
How have you gotten on with the paint on the engine? mine is all coming off! Honda say this is normal. 🤔

You're a very good communicator. That's a rare talent/skill. Gives you a great edge 👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks very much! Happy to hear that everything comes across that way! 😊
Bloody good on you. Everywhere, everyone is trying to screw everybody else over.
Andy thank you for the comment about the tank paint scuffed by your safety pants. Same thing with my Cb650r. How did you fix it?
I've actually fitted a set of R&G traction pads to the side of the tank. So the scuffs are sadly still under there. Maybe one day I'll polish them out with some T-Cut and polish. That or get a respray with some REAL paint! www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/253690/#/27945,3255,0
Hi,what do u install to reduce the cb1000r vibration problem?
I prefer your FZ1 to this bike, the Honda just looks like I mismatch of parts that don’t seem to go with each other. But you love it and that’s all that matters. All the best from a equally wet UK.
You're allowed. Luckily I prefer the Honda 😜 Happy wetness! Summer is on the way though, right?!
All those gripes are very valid, great video!
Many thanks David!
Had vibe problem on a newFJR1300 and did a throttle body sinc which cured 90% of the problem, changing the tyres cured the rest.
Be safe
Nice. Being seen is often more important than seeing yourself!! Sad that the whole range has these crappy components though. Bad Honda!!
It took me months to get to even like my CB1000R
But I’m glad I put up with it . I love it now
I’m not surprised you love it. Bold move to buy a bike you didn’t like though! 😜
@@AndyManCam I had a fireblade needed something more comfortable , the choice was a good one in the end I just had to get used to the change and except I’m getting older 😂
Ah i see!! Perfect move then. Far more exciting to ride than it looks like it ought to be!
Hello, very good reviews on the motorcycle. I wonder what kind of rear view mirrors you have on?
Sincerely!
Thanks! They are by Hashiru, bought from polo-motorrad.com
Thanks for the informative video. I've been considering a new one and it's nice to know about the cruise control.
Yep, agree with the horn and indicator positioning, out of line with 99 percent of all other bikes i have owned( 30 plus) so have had to recalibrate my brain /hand dexterity, only a small detail but, not so small as not to be annoying.
I was endlessly relieved when i left this bike and went back to a ‚normal‘ setup!
2 entertaining videos, I don’t suppose there is a bike where everything is spot on. As long as the bike puts a smile on your face that’s the main thing
I totally agree Simon. If the core of the thing makes you happy, then everything else is just the icing on the cake.

What would be good to see, next time you do it, is a video of the chain adjustment and all it entails.
I'll see what I can arrange next time I tighten it.
Fortunately, 11 things I can live with. Hopefully I can get a few miles clocked up on mine this year.
Me too! There’s plenty more to love about this bike!
You and your right wrist! Good series Andy. Well thought out likes and dislikes.
Hardest working right wrist in youtube! 🤣 Thanks BR!
It's a stinker!! I've just fitted the SW-Motech LED's actually! Video is now live!
have a look at the booster plug, real time AF correction whether the bike is stock or you have a slip on & air filter or full race system the booster plug will sort it,got one on my SDGT with de cat link pipe & end can & motorhooligan race filter & velocity stacks ,bike runs spot on.
I've already gotta one! 😁
I have a new Suzuki GSXS1000 and I have the same rear suspension issue. I plan to get a K-Tech rear shock.
It’s disappointing that the manufacturers keep putting these under performing age old shocks on new bikes!! 😖
Bro, reagrding the scuff marks on tank paint you mentioned, i took mine to a Paint specialist 400 miles from home & they waxed it with Ethos Product & then coated it entirely with X-pel Advanced film. It looks WOW & it is Now Protected for years to come 👏 😍
Good to know, thanks. I'm planning to take the vinyl wrapping approach, at least for the short term.
I still keep on switching off the traction control!
@AndyManCam Maybe it's a sign...
12:24 Is that the kind of thing that shows up on next years "upgraded" version?
Doesn't look like it. Despite having a new control cluster for driving the TFT display. Lazy.
agree 100% with the mud guard, really wish it was metal and painted to match the bike.
Where did you buy your mirrors? They look pretty nice!!!
They’re Highsider Ferrara mirrors that i bought from www.louis.eu
hy are the indicators on are they the same as USA a sort of park light set up
Yes, exactly. Always on.
Is it worth to buy 2020 model for £8k or better go with 2022 gsxs1000 or yamaha xsr900 (both around £9.5k) Regards
@@AndyManCam Thank you, owner review means a lot
Glad to help Chris. Not many long term owner reviews of this bike out there. I loved it at first, just like all the other reviewers did. But the romance didn’t last forever!
With those panniers it reminds me of my ol BMW r1150r Rockster
I can see that a little bit. Thankfully the Honda looks like it's been in the gym and had some new clothes! 😜
Is the 2021, 22 model any better lol. I can't remember. That refuelling ussue, omg. That ONE thing is enough to stop me getting a CB
I sincerely hope so! It’s too good a bike to be ruined by poor finish! Time will tell…
Very nice review. I'm very picky and I'm glad I found someone that helped in my decision before I spend $15,600 on one. Thank you
What is this ‚car‘ of which you speak? Is it like a BMW c1?…
Try a nitron shock, the budget one, I had it on a vfr1200f, brilliant.
Plus one for Nitron. Not cheap but have transformed a couple of bikes I’ve had. Good helpful company too.
can anyone provide a specific model plz?

@@AndyManCam Yes you do keep us occupied, keep up the good work and enjoy the riding and stay safe !!
I’ll do my very best!
Soft paint: I always put a Baglux tank harness on my bikes. Most of the other negative points don't bother me, apart from the weak headlight. Maybe the new model's is better.
The headlight is definitely the worst of all these issues. No excuse for putting on a headlight that doesn't actually show the road!
@@AndyManCam I owned the 22 black Edition. I can't compare the headlight with the 18 Version, but i think the lights are very good now.
What happened to the FZ1?
It was sent to a new home in the countryside, so that I could have something new and shiny!
Could the vibrating and shaky mudguard be affecting the vibration in the bike
I don't think so. The vibes were noticeably worse with the short endcan, plus they're worse on overrun. I think it's 100% fuelling related.
Is the yellow-black style just for the dark season?
rumor has it they had to avoid using some hardener due EU regulations (i bet minorities were under-represented in the factory where they make it)
i am sure they will figure out something that's yet not banned within couple of years tho
Seems we all have to be careful about our new soft paint then! The Yellow and black was a bit of a forced change as the only things Oxford wanted to send me were yellow! 🙈 Not my favourite!
@@AndyManCam Well, my rain clothes are yellow, too. It seems to be a good idea to be a bit more visible.
But nothing beats black... 😉
That's not a sign of a good headlight is it!? "Is it even on?" I've also doused the tank in fuel a fair few times. At least it's fully disinfected! 😂
I swear I left the full beam On once, literally once for a mere minute... got flashed by first car coming in the opposite direction
Good video. Is the Honda better than the Yamaha?
Yes it totally is.
Great video, I just wonder why didnt you buy the versys 1000 since you were considering it after the V 650 ?
The Versys was good, but that was AAAAGES ago! The Honda is just so much more exciting looking. Plus I’m very much into the naked bikes nowadays.
Well done. As someone who has a 2021 Black Edition on order, this is a good preview of some of the things I will encounter.
Did U get the 2021 Black edition yet?
Tail tidy sorts out the easy chain adjustment, decat and aftermarket pipe sorts out the pops ✌️
I like the low mounted plate enough to deal with the faffy adjustment. Luckily the chain oiler keeps things from needing too much adjustment. Decat just isn't an option here in Germany. If the law were ever to find out, then the bike is suddenly no longer deemed roadworthy :O
@@AndyManCam ah that’s a shame , they are getting worse in the uk to be fair many fines given out for Loud exhaust and tiny plates etc ...
Over here it’s near impossible to even get an illegal plate. The TüV and tax stamps are put into the Plate by the officials. So if the plate is wrong, you don’t get your stamps. If your stamps aren’t on the plate, then jonny law notices pretty quickly!!
Did they add cruise control in more recent model years?
Hi, AndyMan. is it possible to put subtitles on this video?

Cheers Mick, I’ll take a look.
Very interesting, especially the headlight or lack of issue. Maybe I should look at the old version :)
Nah, this is still a much better bike! But that headlight is woefully and embarrassingly bad.
15:20 WTH is that? Never happened to me. Does Germany have special hi-pressure gas hoses? :D
Haha! Maybe! They're all so impatient here!! 🤣
Its a pain in the butt , happens to me
Unless you hold the hose vertically and just above the plate .
Stupid idea honda !!
Very much agree with the comment on accessories, wanted the same and seat cowl and front shieldy thing are $900 here in NZ, no thanks, also agree on limitations of the rear shock, filler cap and front mudguard comments, apart from that really happy with mine.
Overall I’m really happy too. Hopefully more options will become available in aftermarket parts. Those Honda prices are eyewatering!
I heard a rattling at the front end when a low speeds over small bumps. Ended up being that stupid front fender shaking about!
That doesn't surprise me at all Dan. It's a truly horrible piece of plastic!
I agree I think Honda has it right 👍
I'm sure that in a few more months, I'll feel the same way! 😂
@@AndyManCam It would be a shame to lose Horny McHornface - such continued amusement... ;) :D

Kg might of been the problem bought a new vstrom all good so far.
It's a real shame. i lived for years with rubbish Yamaha headlights. Now it seems that just as I jump ship, Yamaha have good headlights and Honda are rubbish! Typical!
I'm going to jump to Yamaha next year if new 900 tracer is as good as it's long spec sheet 😁
The proof will be in the pudding. If it feels right in the test ride, go for it!
What camera mic setup you using?

I'm hoping the aftermarket bits will come sooner rather than later! Front and rear mudguard need the most attention AFAIK!
I got the same gripe with the position of the horn button on my Honda Rebel CMX500 but I must say that's the only gripe I have :)
That's a good position to be in! I've almost completely re-learned it now!
Was considering trading my amazing BMW R1200R LC for one of these. Thanks for saving me from that!
Let's just say that given the chance to go back, I wouldn't buy it again.
Thanks for the series of videos! I have some gripes on my 2019 but not necessarily at "loathe" on the big CB's faults. I definitely agree with these faults, minor an annoying:
-mid-range buzz in bars (which seems to correlate with the flat-spot in power delivery. I'm surprised I didn't notice that making your list)
-soft paint that won't wear well (any recommendations on how to protect it?)
-OEM parts expensive, yes... (The OEM heated grips are worth the money, I promise! But the $180 faux-aluminum "Meter Visor"? Hard NO)
-I'm seriously considering going Evotech or Yoshimura to delete the rear hugger, relocate tags to normal place for simple chain adjustments. Huge advantage of the single-sided swingarm is not having to deal with alignment like with my previous CB's
-Similar to the previous design flaw but worse on a daily basis: What is up with the FUEL FILLER crossrail?
-Yep, cruise control should be standard on Honda's flagship standard
.
Not on my list, but interesting:
-I've hit the horn once by accident (I'm a Honda guy) in 900 miles. The contoured turn signal toggle is easier for me to reach than the pivoting horn switch.
-I think the sound is delightful and growly, but not annoying (US non-California model possibly different?)
-Rear shock is much better than my 2004 599 Hornet... so not saying anything at all.
On my list, not mentioned:
-I miss my magnetic tank bag, I guess they're using aluminum now. (But I guess it would only worsen the paint protection issue)
-already mentioned the flat spot in the power band, but it's very Honda in the "VTEC" mentality. I don't mind it as it's similar to the power delivery of my B18 Integra and K20 Civic. Both great cars!
Cheers!
search on e-bay for "For Honda CB1000R 2019 2020 Front Wind Deflector Windshield Screen CNC Aluminum" ($35)
Little bit of money thrown at it, and it'll be well sorted.
i have HID in my MTS1200S, and you can see in bright day at night ! It's great.
Nice. I'm very jealous! I would consider switching out my headlight for something better, but the dash is attached directly to the headlight! 🤦🏻♂️
@@AndyManCam its great, but I understand it's not accessible for everyone. Good luck finding a solution. Did you think about adding long range additional lights ?
I've actually just fitted SW-Motech LED foglights which make a HELLUVA difference!
@@AndyManCam What do you mean by "attached directly to the headlight?" The headlight is attached by two screws to a part the dash is attached to.
cdn.powersports.honda.com/documentum/MW01/08R72-MKJ-D00.pdf (fig. 4 a 5)
Or do you mean "other headlights would not fit those screws?"
the wind protection is a must if you on the highway its gets very old when you going at speed so I would never buy a bike without one i have had both
cruise control is also very nice to have for the price of this bike there is a lot of negative points you mentioned it would bother me as well
vibration is annoying as well....Thanks for the video
Most Honda inline 4 seems to have this nasty buzz and vibration around the 5000-6000 rpm range. I've seen this first hand on CB650F, and have heard it exists on CB650R.
I heard somewhere (unconfirmed) that Honda didn’t bother with balance shafts, to reduce cost and complication. Not sure if it’s true, but the buzz was angry and spoiled a great bike for me. Could also be fueling as it seemed less with high octane fuel.
That’s it, I’m selling mine. Ha! Fun video, thank you. I agree with all of these except the vibration, I’ve never noticed it.
Hahaha! Maybe you actually will if you start to have the paint woes that I'm having! The oil sump is completely stripped and the front of the engine is going the same way. Honda says it's 'normal'. Even if I keep this bike for a while, Honda won't be getting another penny out of me in the future!
Andy glad you're happy with the bike but those car wing mirrors aren't my cup of tea.
Cheers Gary! Fair enough!
dude what do you miss about the fz1?
What rain gear do you use?
In this video, I was in the Oxford Continental Suit. Full (winter) review video coming soon. www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/433537/#/27945,3255,0
@@AndyManCam Thx, man...Andy...man...cam :D
No worries!
I've got end pipe on mine I got lil pops n bangs
Which one do you have? does it make the bike vibrate more?
@@AndyManCam prorace gp1 end pipe. Yeh probably but because it makes it louder you don't notice the vibrations. Makes it a beast.
The noise didn’t make me any less sensitive to the vibrations! I’d rather have smooth running than noise.
@@AndyManCam the speed I do I don't reli notice anything.
Great review of things witch should be made better
My pleasure Piotr. Thanks for watching!
You can have whirl on my fz1 if you want pops n bangs, scorpion carbon can sounds gurt lush.
I'm slowly learning to let go of them. Maybe this is my gateway to electric :D
@@AndyManCam hush your mouth, sacrilege!
Sorry. What have i said. Must be the drink talking.
Great video nice bike stay safe looking forward to next one 🇬🇧👍🏻
Thanks Richard! 👍
Hmmm I want this bike but no one has one in stock. There is one 650 or I could get the 600rr... I can’t make up my darn mind lol
My experience of accessories when buying a new bike in the UK is that you get a 10 - 20% discount and they fit them for free
EVERYTHING costs extra in Germany!!
Same in Portugal, no extra cost and get some discount.
No fair!!
Thx Andy….you just talked me out of this bike.
My pleasure. 2 years later and I talked myself out of it too!!
@@AndyManCam I am just looking at buying a 2018 model now. 😊 What is the main reason you talked yourself out of it after 2 years?
You should of gotten BMW R9T and never worried about chain vibration or mud guard
I was a big fan of the R9T, until i rode one. Sadly it’s far too cramped for me and i found the drivetrain very agricultural and heavy.
It seems to rain more in Germany, than UK.
Haha! It's coincidental, I promise! I was purposely out in the rain on this one, to give the Oxford gear a proper test!
Funny you should say that, I’ve now traded this bike in for a KTM ADV 1090 and it’s amazed me how much less it vibrates and buzzes than the CB!
The currency is worth the same between brands though. Yet it seems like you get more bike for your money with other manufacturers.
@@AndyManCam Does everyone else still put balance shafts in their inline fours?
Andy 2 great videos buddy as always - a very open and honest review for sure buddy. keep safe
Thanks Mark! Just telling it like it is mate!
Check out ERMAX aftermarket save lots IE seat cowling and solid fenders
Thanks Glen. Sadly the Ermax seat cowl for this bike looks like it was stolen from the 80‘s! 😂
8:27 Look up the "fenda extenda" (front fender extension) for a Versys (or others I am sure.) Insane expense for a stupid little piece of plastic.
I know all about them. One of them still wouldn't stop the mudguard being horrible! I'd rather swap out the whole thing with something either more sporty or more retro, and then fit a fenda extenda to that.
@@AndyManCam I was more joining in with how ridiculously expensive things are for bikes. Rear huggers too
Ah! Gotcha!! I totally agree! 30€ for an oversized plastic spoon really is daylight robbery!!
Hey Andy.. sounded like myself there with all the same gripes but as you said theres more to love than hate and you only have to look at it to know you've made the right choice.
@@AndyManCam 😂😂😂😂
5:10 omg you bad man. I broke some ribs last week and the “shitting dog” analogy caught me off guard really made me laugh hard and it hurt bad!!
🤣🤣😆😆😖
Copious complaints! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
The Rebel though, has lovely lights.
