Its a CB1000/1100. Same review for the last 40 years. Its very well made. Its very reliable. It does everything well. It is very comfortable and very enjoyable to ride. It looks good. Its a Honda. If you gave me one I would keep it. 😁🇨🇦
I've recently returned to biking by buying a 2022 Honda CB650R after 4 years away. Absolutely loving it after 2.5 months and 2,000 miles of summer fun. More power would be fun, so I'm already eyeing up the CB1000R as a possible successor in the future. The 50 bhp hike would be fun without being a maniac, hopefully! Thanks for the video 👍
So glad you're reviewing the updated version, Chopsie. There are so many clowns out there who rarely (if ever) take their bike to the track and base their entire opinion on the published stats, which is laughable. The CB1000r is a beautifully designed, well-made, high-performance roadster that never once professed to be a super-naked. It's stunning to see in person and it is surprisingly affordable for what you get. My only beef is I wish they still offered it in different colors here in the U.S..
For me, the lack of cruise control is what has me scratching my head. They put things like blinker auto cancel, and up and down quick-shift but no CC.🤔
Instant classic👏 Always liked that bike, probably because I learned to ride on an 82 cb750f. Well Chops let’s see what you end up doing with this lovely motorcycle.
Such an awesome unit, from what I've seen from previous reviews, most state the need for some extra preload on the shock and has undesirable feeling on the back end from the factory. The black edition is just that extra layer of beauty on an already striking package. Cheers mate, lovely machine.
Sensible power 😂 These motorbike reviewers make me laugh so much. It's 143hp! That's an insane amount of power that 20 years ago superbikes were struggling to make. The average rider doesn't need more than 100hp on the road.
I’ve put 20,000 km on my black edition and I love it. For me the rear shock is the weakest link and I put an ohlins rear on it and it transformed the ride completely. I also have a z900rs with 65,000 km and I’m always torn between which one I want to ride more. Get this above 6000 rpm and the fun starts.
@@KB-yj5xp I just forgot that you are not from Israel) Here Moto cost twice higher. For example , new Honda cbr650r cost 16600$ and the insurance cost 1500$.
In the follow up video, if not recorded already, whether gearing was changed from the 2018/19 model please. I could've been the mapping, or both. I am looking forward to the follow up on the suspension and chassis flex.
I absolutely love the way this bike looks Although nt1100 is a lot more suited for two up touring which I do 95% of the time. But to have this one just for fun would be amazing
Great video, I had a pre face lift 2017 model, the seat height is actually quite low and surprisingly narrow for an inline 4. Great bike in the twisties, suspension needs a bit of playing around but that Showa BPF's are old but decent tech. However, I shared the bike with the ex wife, who was only 5"7 and she could get flat footed on the floor. Underrated bikes in my eyes... but I bought one, so I am biased.
I test rode the old cb1000r back in around 2009 after I'd already purchased a street triple and I loved it. I found the engine and gearbox was so slick and responsive that you can really take full advantage of first gear before changing up or down to/from 2nd. It loved to be ridden in the high revs. Was always planning to get one but they stopped bringing them to Australia after 2011. I was really excited when they came out with the new one but was worried it looks too nice to use as a daily commuter so I'll end up feeling like I need to wash it every week. For me it's between CB1000R, GSXS1000, MT09 for a daily commuter. If it were just a leisure bike I'd go for Tuono or Superduke. My street triple got stolen twice within 6 months in 2018 and the 2nd time I didn't get it back. Too scared to get a bike given I don't have secure parking but might be moving this year. If I'm close to work I'll probably just get an ebike and wait until I get my own place with garage then get a superduke to ride on a Sunday when it's not raining.
I love a lot of things on mine, I have a 2023. It’s been about 3 months now. The single swing arm design is beautiful and quick shifter is an absolute treat. I love 3rd gear on the highways. But no cruise control still is surprising to me, the blinker switch for me is in a bad spot and I wish it had just few lbs of torque in the low end. But I still absolutely love the bike and well worth the $12k.
I took one of these for a ride 2-3 years ago before buying my Tuono. I actually really liked this bike. Good bang for buck and good to ride. If I couldn’t afford Tuono I’d buy this
before I even watch this I would like to admire this beauty. been on one since 2018 it's already been more than 4 years 38k on odo still runs like butter..no issue at all ride it almost every day. so folks don't just trust specs on paper ..ride it to feel it .super amazing machine especially for all those daily riders out there and 143bhp will surprise you on the road and puts a smile as u go.. cheers
And yes, Honda improved the engine's mapping for the 2020 from what I've read. So, if you tried a 2019 or 2018, the useful torque was higher up in the powerband. They've basically flattened the torque curve.
I have the 2018 version with 20k miles. I blacked out a lot of the same parts before they came out with the blacked out version which makes it look a whole lot better……which I’m assuming Honda deduced also. It was just to “splotchy” looking with so much silver and black going on. I really like the look of the bike and u don’t see too many so it’s a unique bike for people to see. Hondas build quality is so good (they really know how to make a compact bike) that people always think it’s a 600!
This ride begs for the follow-up on the suspension setup. This is certainly not unusual for ANY bike, and it's always a good idea to dial-in your preferences before flipping on the camera. Great-looking bike with mature Honda smoothness and reliability!
The display can be changed to 3 different layouts and the background contrast between black and white. At 13 stone, I found the handling fine. That fugly exhaust had to be swapped for an akrapovic.
Imagine if Honda did a CBX1100 (like the cbx1050) with the I6 but INTENTIONALLY made it sound like a V10 era f1 car. Like a special edition that would be something
So a bit more of a Roadster than a true Supernaked. Maybe one day if I ever grow up, then. Looks great in the black though. Thanks for the video! But right now my new MT-10SP has just arrived at the dealer, I have a great 2023 to look forward to!
So I have the 21 and will be getting a Woolich tune in a few weeks. This will unleash the full power potential and remove that annoying power flat spot on the mid RPM range, and also can remedy the throttle as it is very restricted, I was told 33% WOT max in first gear... Everything you say (soft suspension, under tuned and more comfortable power delivery) is absolutely correct and can be fixed, once you get it stiffened it's so much better handling. Combined with a tune this bike WILL be more competitive to supernakeds in it's class
Nice looking bike chopsy , sounds great made me think back to when I last had a inline four ?? And I was shocked to remember it was the mk1 bandit 1200.😮 been triples, twins , singles !!!! Putting me in the mood to get one again . Was thinking what great weather your having there till I saw the puddles here and there 😁 .the Honda always look well finished typical Honda quality . It definitely looks a good real world bike for the road .Great review as per usual.👍 keep it up chopsy I thought with that cool garage now we wouldn't see you outdoors till summer.😁👍
This is currently on my shopping list now I'm looking for a new bike, really interested to see what you can show us and what you get up to on this bike. Keep these 1000r videos coming Chopsy, give me MOAR!!!
I tried to adjust my 2021 suspensions and no matter what I did, it is not suitable for my taste. Let us know how you deal with this after your adjustments. I agree that the engine, the exhaust sound, the looks, the handling are all superb but suspensions is not quite right.
I’ve found exactly the same problem. I’ve had my forks revalved by Maxton and a new Maxton rear shock. It doesn’t affect the ride quality much, although it’s definitely a bit more compliant. However it’s transformed the handling. It’s completely eliminated the vague feeling from the front end entering a bend, and the bike can now cope with ‘B’ roads.
Watching with interest, I have a 2019 and love it....but wouldn't mind seeing what you do with the suspension. I've jacked up the rear preload a bit and with more weight over the front it's definitely sharper but that rear shock is a bit crap as standard
Hi Chops, great review! I would love to see you ride the Kawasaki z900se. It seems to be overlooked in the UK market and no one has seemed to have reviewed it on our roads.
Nice review. Bike is obviously targeting people who want a naked but on a budget , a difficult sector to please everybody. Lots to like it’s a Honda , built in quality. Looking forward to your opinion on suspension changes . Looks like you could have tested wading depth!. Stay safe .
The SC 80 needs colour. Red. Mine is red. The SC 80 is the follower of the 750 Four and the Bol d'or in perfect shape and condition. A pure Naked, Power and torque- enough. Control- perfect. I am lucky to own one. 🙂
I love mine in bordeaux red but it will look better once I get an evotech tail tidy. Highly recommend the arrow race can which sounds awesome with the baffle removed
I had the 2019 CB and was soooo hoping I’d be able to replace it with a sports tourer version. Unfortunately what we got was the NT1100. I’ve now got a Ninja 1000sx.
I had one of these when they came out. The plus version. Worst bike I’ve had and I’ve had many Hondas. The paint scratched on the tank if you washed it and it had rust on the seam. I got caught in the rain once and the clocks were water logged and had to be replaced. The seat had a tear in the cover on the underside but the replacement was worse. The paint on the engine was peeling underneath. It rode well but quality control was a joke. 2 cbr 600, 2 fireblade, 2 vfr750, vfr1200, 2 forza 300, ntv 650, sp1, and this was the last Honda for me.
Yes, Hondas are no longer as reliable as they used to be from all the videos and stories I’ve been listening to. From what I hear many of the parts are from China now.
Nice looking bike and a silky smooth motor. Be interesting to see what improvements can be made after a little tweak of the suspension. If you’re a laid back kind of rider it’s probably great right out of the box. Still absolutely hate those number plates, really spoils a nice rear.
I had the Black 2018. I found it to be one of the best finished motorcycles I ever owned. Really great looking bike. You have to answer a lot of questions riding this bike from uninformed cyclists asking if you made it yourself. They aren't that common here in the states. One negative, the first three gears had a throttle position sensor override in the map that had nothing to do with TC being on or off. It simply softened the delivery of power in the lower 3 gears to the point it wasn't all the exciting UNTIL you rev'd past 7k. If you put it into 3rd at 35mph then do a roll on and then put it into 4th at 35mph and do a roll on you will feel more grunt in 4th. This needs to be removed from the motorcycle by some fueling exorcism reflash.
Yeah my 2021 is the same, not sure if the euro bikes are the same but the North American ones for sure are too neutered down low. Finally last week woolich cracked the ecu code so people can start tuning them now. Other than the soft rear suspension the lack of down low grunt has been my bigggest gripe. What did you trade your bike for?
@@KB-yj5xp A 2022 XSR900. Funny thing is, the 2nd gear on it has the same issue. It does pull really hard once it revs. But 3rd is free of the neutered treatment. Quite frankly the bike is a hoot. I posted a couple shot videos on my channel.
@@tdeloriea I’ll check it out! I was in the market for a xsr900 or a z900rs and the first best deal that came up was for a z900rs, I’ve had it for 4 years now and over 65,000 km, and I love that bike. I bought the Honda because I was putting so many km’s on the kawi and I wanted it to last longer 😂 I did a walk around of mine on my channel too!
Nice review Chops of a classy high quality machine. Hopefully you can dial out some that wallow to make it a little sharper as it looks like a great road bike. No competition on build quality seemingly but how does the standard ride & suspension compare to the GSXS1000?
Wish Honda would make version of this that can compete with the rest of the Hypernakeds, (180hp or more). Would be nice to have something with more grunt that isn't near or over $20k. A CB1000RR perhaps.
I’m sure I’d seen somewhere this model was due a major overhaul later this year, maybe wrong. I really like these as a bike but surprisingly my last Honda was a joke quality wise so won’t be running back in a hurry.
Chopsie, when you tested the 2018/19 model you said the headlamp works well. A few owners have said the headlamp doesn't provide very good illumination and have fitted auxiliary lamps that may mess up the looks. How did you find the headlamp's performance riding at night?
I don’t think I’ve ever disliked anything from Honda. I have a atc250r three wheeler, a trx450, a crf250 and a cb650r. Kawis are ehh but I’ve always been a diehard Honda guy😂
Had a first edition almost new ,couldn't live with the feel. After lots of twiddling . Also sketchy paintwork reviews moved on pretty quick . Lovely looking bike if you like looking at it but just didn't get it overall.tbh. Bike has now had over 6 owners now and only maybe 10k miles, says something.. Good review 👍
Thanks for another great post Chopsy. Definitely an aesthetically pleasing bike with the usual Honda quality finish. The only thing I'm not keen on is the rear axle rear wheel registration plate holder, just a personal preference, but a tail tidy always looks neater in my opinion. Look forward to the updates.
You're correct about taller riders. I own this bike. 2021 version and I'm 6 ft tall. Slightly cramped. Not bad but it's a thing. Other than that.. love it. I bought an adventure bike (1290 super adventure) a year after buying this CB1000R and unfortunately, the CB just sits in the garage now. 🤔
I found the version from a few years ago put my hands, feet, and bum to sleep on my hour long test ride. I’d try to readjust and shake out but I’d just end up tingly and numb. Neither the MT10 or GSX1000S did that on the same day of riding. 🤷🏼♂️
I took one out for a test ride after I’d basically already decided on a speed triple 1200. The Speedy is probably a better bike all round but I love the cb1000 for how smooth and easy it is
Yes it’s nice, but take a look at Guy Willisons 5Four version which is how Honda should have done it in my view, bit pricey but it looks great. Standard bike just missing that bit of excitement
Woolich just released the tune and the guy I'm using says the bike is crazy restricted. Shame you couldn't hold out but I don't blame you the bike is aggressively detuned from it's true potential
@@denominatorxero720 Before i decided to let it go, i was wondering if I should have it unrestricted and tuned. But here in Denmark, first time you get caught you are fined 700$, then 1500$, then 3000$, then 6000$, and then 12000$and your bike is confiscated. Needles to say, that i got pulled over once a week on my stock SMCr. So im gonna go with the 1290 SDR, and keep it mostly stock. But the Honda is a great bike, just needed 40 hp more, and a little less grandpa :p
I rode it against the MT-10 in 2019 and found the Honda to be very Buzzy through the seat and pegs. Annoyingly so, it spoiled what I thought visually was a beautiful bike. I ended up going with the MT-10. Has the Honda improved or is it still buzzy?
I did the same back to back test ride last year and did the exact opposite to you. I’ve owned a cross plane crank R1, so the engine characteristics of the MT10 came as no surprise. What I simply could not abide with the R1 & MT10 is the appalling fuelling at anything below 25mph (ish) The CBthou engine is in a completely different league in my humble opinion with no snatchiness, and it’s turbine smooth. It might not have the ultimate handling of the ‘super nakeds’ but I was conscious of that when I bought it. It’s exactly what Chopsy says - a great straightforward road bike, once you’ve dialled in the suspension.
Had one as a loan bike back in 19 or 20, and never worked out the green light thing 😁 The bike was pretty axing though, smooth and powerful - but I found the rear seat cowl just buzzed my arse all the time
Hey Chops, great content mate. Ta for reminder of cuppa, almost forgot coffee! Love the Cbr but ended up buying gxs 1000 s. Bit more range and comfort, bit cheaper. C 😀
Congratulations on 100K, lots of hard work to get there. Followed Andy Man Cams journey with his and there were issues and think he's sold. For me, a similar size and weight to you, the MT10 wins on comfort for the bigger boned man. Hate the rear end styling Thanks for the review but not for me.
what a gorgeous machine, i'd buy one, but as i spend most my time in the twisties and single track roads in the dales, and aint a speedster it would be wasted on me, but maybe one day :)

Yes for just a regular street bike the factory rear is fine, I wanted to track mine once in a while so I upgraded to an ohlins and it’s fantastic now.
My brother has this bike its a very nice bike very gentleman like too
Not the best selling Honda , so as a Honda fan , I'm looking forward to hearing how you get along with it
Best regards Shaun
OK very interesting 👍
Try your sport mode. I read that sport mode releases the beast for all gears
Best looking Japanese bike made in many years
Well, where is the second video?
This is one Honda that I do like the look of ,
I’m sure I’d seen somewhere this model was due a major overhaul later this year, maybe wrong.
Very nice looking bit of kit. On the maybe list for upgrade in a year or so
You're correct about taller riders. 🤔
Do you recommend this bike? Found a good deal used 11K miles
I found the version from a few years ago put my hands, feet, and bum to sleep on my hour long test ride. I’d try to readjust and shake out but I’d just end up tingly and numb. Neither the MT10 or GSX1000S did that on the same day of riding. 🤷🏼♂️
Between Z900RS or CB1000R, which would you pick? Thanks for the review!
Absolutely gorgeous. Stunning.
Huge congrats on the 100k ! Very well deserved. How does this bike match up against the gsxs1000 ?
Good question! Might do a comparison review to find out 👍
@@LambChopRides the Honda definitely wins in the looks department
I took one out for a test ride after I’d basically already decided on a speed triple 1200. The Speedy is probably a better bike all round but I love the cb1000 for how smooth and easy it is
Good luck if you think increasing the preload will firm it up.
Is it good for 6"2 (188cm) tall guy? Anyone?
Good first review chops I had the first addition and that was great but succumbed to mt10 2019 but honda was nice bike thanks from Danny 👍
Hill climb road very wet , beautiful machine hard to find one in stock.
For me, a little leaned forward is better. It keeps the pressure of my tailbone.
Great review, Chops.
In your experienced opinion what would be the most comfortable naked bike for me? I'm 6' 3" and 18 stone.
Superduke 👍
I wish they hadn't messed with the styling of this bike. The CB650 looks much better in my opinion
Was considering this then I bought the rs765. Being similar in size I'm now thinking either the speed or s1000r m sport next ill give this a miss 🤔
induction sound is rather nice)
Great video, beautiful motorcycle!
Yes it’s nice, but take a look at Guy Willisons 5Four version which is how Honda should have done it in my view, bit pricey but it looks great. Standard bike just missing that bit of excitement
Where is your part 2 of this review, I can't find it unless you did not do the pt 2
Will it power wheelie?
I just owned this for 6 months, sick bike, you really feel the quality. Lots of power, but sadly in such a grandpa kinda way, so i had to let it go.
Sheesh bud, def don't blame you at all then. Enjoy your new ride!
That is a beautiful machine .
Which naked bike do you recommend for a taller rider?
Superduke 👍
Shame about the issues AndyManCam had with his but that was an earlier model. Maybe he was just unlucky.
Nice looking bike, sounded very smooth
I rode it against the MT-10 in 2019 and found the Honda to be very Buzzy through the seat and pegs. Annoyingly so, it spoiled what I thought visually was a beautiful bike. I ended up going with the MT-10. Has the Honda improved or is it still buzzy?
I did the same back to back test ride last year and did the exact opposite to you.
I’ve owned a cross plane crank R1, so the engine characteristics of the MT10 came as no surprise.
What I simply could not abide with the R1 & MT10 is the appalling fuelling at anything below 25mph (ish)
The CBthou engine is in a completely different league in my humble opinion with no snatchiness, and it’s turbine smooth. It might not have the ultimate handling of the ‘super nakeds’ but I was conscious of that when I bought it.
It’s exactly what Chopsy says - a great straightforward road bike, once you’ve dialled in the suspension.
So glad that intro is back!!!!
Bit of chopsy and dave hewson with the morning coffee!
Good video , can u recommend this after Suzuki gsx 8s or better gsx s1000 , I’m doing a lot of twisty roads
Had one as a loan bike back in 19 or 20, and never worked out the green light thing 😁
The bike was pretty axing though, smooth and powerful - but I found the rear seat cowl just buzzed my arse all the time
There is a few settings for that light... the best setting is off. Mine just goes red for the fuel light.
Great looking for sure!
Hey Chops, great content mate. Ta for reminder of cuppa, almost forgot coffee! Love the Cbr but ended up buying gxs 1000 s. Bit more range and comfort, bit cheaper. C 😀
Great to hear! 😁👍
This is a CB, not a CBR test. 🙂
I was going to have a good look at this but Honda Australia stopped bringing them in. I’m now on a GSXS 1000GT due to lack of that choice 😅
Congratulations on 100K, lots of hard work to get there.
Followed Andy Man Cams journey with his and there were issues and think he's sold.
For me, a similar size and weight to you, the MT10 wins on comfort for the bigger boned man.
Hate the rear end styling
Thanks for the review but not for me.
Thanks 👍
what a gorgeous machine, i'd buy one, but as i spend most my time in the twisties and single track roads in the dales, and aint a speedster it would be wasted on me, but maybe one day :)
