Back when I started riding, a 750 was considered a big, powerful and fast bike and it was to be treated with respect, especially in the wet. These days a 750 is a mid sized bike which I have noticed many people call small, light and flickable and almost a learner bike. How times have changed. I still think a 750 would have all the power most people could ever need or use, and they have become so user friendly that you hardly even notice how fast they are, or am I wrong?. Thanks for the review, some interesting observations.

Just got my Hornet and all Andy says it is. One criticism if the bike is weather and road protection. I don't mean for the rider but the bike! The front mudguard is a joke, it throws dirt and water all up the front, to the extent the bottom triple clamp get dirty. The rear is even worse. No protection at if you take passenger in the rain or even slightly wet roads, the back of them will be wet and dirty. So fender extender and hugger are needed (got mine on order now) Great review and totally agree with it all

Great review TMF and bought a hornet recently. very good to see your watchers are asking the right questions ;;; any bike can be smooth at 55 mph , and doing 200 mph is mostly irrelevant ,,,, so the jerky in town stuff IS what affects most riders , the more power - the more tense the motor can be , thats why cruisers have an easier time around town than even a lightweight tuned bike ,, so its good that this bike has a fair bit of power , but with the 'modes ' it can suit the conditions , it is a good job that you take the time to show bikers what the bike is like in real conditions ;;;
This is one of those bikes that I would definitely consider as long as it was one of a few bikes in my garage. Way easier to handle than bigger capacity machines, and no doubt an excellent commuter bike...
Tell me crazy but I really appreciate the dust and the mud on the bike! I 've been tired watching ultra shiny, spotless bikes, like they are living in a case!
I’m about to finish my A2 and I’m considering this bike as my first bike. This is one of the best reviews I have seen so far. Just two more things I would like to see: 1. The hidden usb, if it’s posible to travel a cable through the inside to the handlebars 2. An in-depth of the menu
You have answered my question about cruise control, at the exact time I thought it. So I thought to myself, that you must be a Psychic. Then I realised, that the video is pre recorded. So you must be a Psychic who can see the furure! My faworite. Nice review!
Thank you for another review. Good as always . I specially like that you test the bike in different conditions. Especially rain, yes rain In UK and in Sweden as well as most parts of the world it is raining sometimes. Bikeworld seams to left that obvious fact out since most modern designed bikes have a useless front fender. Why is that and why can´t it exist a little longer front fender as an extra option at least for those rider that use the bike even a rainy day.
Really solid review, especially when you measured the width for getting the bike through the garden gate etc... Why has no one else thought of that? This should be a standard test.. given that not everyone has a garage.. the best review I've seen on the hornet so far. Thanks.
I tell you straight. I don't think I could get use to your road ways where you're at. Everything is backwards. You guys drive on the left just don't make sense to me. I guess I just have to live there to get use to it. That aside, this bike is freaking awesome! I had a dream bike that I wanted and thought I was going to get, but some how being that I'm broke most of the time I can only get the bike that I can only affordand that is my little cb500f. The bike that I wanted was the Yomomma MT09. For a new bike it's pretty expensive , but this one looks to be more affordable. I can't wait to see this bike in the US. When I have the next chance to get another bike. I really want this one now.
Took one out for a demo today and loved it so much that after 6 years with my 390duke decided this is the bike to replace it. It's like my KTM on steroids. Can't wait to get it but theres a wait on quick shifters. Got mine in white. Only things I don't like as you mentioned is no hugger or anywhere to screw in bobbins for a paddock stand sadly. Otherwise even the looks are growing on me.
Hated the horn/ indicator placement on my hornet,,who thought that was a good idea.i went to extremes, traded it in after 5 months and went back to speed triple ❤
Hi Flyer, I have a CB650R which i use every day.. It's not been without its problems... ignition fault.... Which do you really think is the better bike Hornet or CB650R , I'm even thinking Thruxdon o r Royal Enfield now?
I think it would be cool to see a retro styled one just like Yamaha and kawasaki did with the xsr700 or the 650 RS. The market may not be the same for retro bikes as it was like 5 years ago but still a less angular bike that doesn't look like a transformer may be cool.
Subscribed! I've been looking about for my first big bike, after renewing my CBT with the pleasure of doing it on a CB650R I was convinced to book my DAS. I think you've sold the Hornet to me for sure now. As for cleaning it, I have kids, so my quality time I get to spend with my bike is washing it in the garden 🤣
Hervorragend, hab schon viele Videos zu der Honda CB 750 Hornet gesehen, aber nur Sie haben eine Fahrt bei Nacht gezeigt. Vielen Dank, Grüße aus Germany.
With regards to no centre stand, you can get a paddock stand with ‘pads’ so bobbins aren’t needed. This bike isn’t for me, but those indicators on as running lights would be the first thing to go!
Hi Andy. Somebody has probably already said but I can't be bothered to read all the vomments😊. The clippy thing in the toolcase is a fuse puller / fitter. Great review as usual 👍
Great review , I think Honda should be paying you for this , you did the bike proud , thinking of selling my 899 to get one this would be a better bike around especially with the uk weather and road conditions, 👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent review as usual. Never liked the looks of the bike from the launch photos, however a friend of mine purchased a hornet in those very colours and i must admit the bike looks so much better in the flesh and i’m very impressed. Great bike to be fair to Honda.
Thank you for answering the questions about the twitchy throttle / fuelling at slow speed; MCN review put me off but it’s back on the list of potentials now 👍🏼
I rode the hornet yesterday, i loved every second of the ride and i could look past the styling as i prefer quasi retro bikes like the cb650r and xsr700 but unfortunately those colour options are ugly save the gray option and the lack of any spools or holes to put them in is a major misgiving
@@TheMissendenFlyer Thank you for your as you see it detailed assessment of the new Honda 750 twin and for your reply . I that the move towards sophisticated twins away from fours marks a new direction for road bikes in the future and is commensurate with what seems to be a shrinking bike market.
I had a 1981 CB750 Custom back in '87 it was great for touring, it was heavy and thick for lack of a better word. This new model must be much more nimble for sure. Now the important thing is how can I get this TFT for my CB500X!
Andy, when you do sections where you show a bikes lights at night, even when you have a bike with particularly good lights, it's almost impossible to see how good they are on the video's....Something happens in filming, which you have mentioned, and it's a shame that being the case that we cannot, from the videos's, see how good the good lights are on a bike. Guess I'll just have to see if I can get a test ride at night to see, lol....Of course this can't happen really. It's just a shame. Good review matey.
2:45 walking speed, PLEASE do this on all the bikes you review, very useful info for city riders in stop go traffic, my BMW F900XR is absolutely horrible in this situation. so much so that I can't live with it. My old K100RS is buttery smooth in comparison.
Awesome Indepth detailed review. I wish more reviewers covered things like headlights. Before I bought my 19 CB1000R I watched every review I could find. Not one of them mentioned the terrible headlight pattern.
Do like this bike in many aspects, the lack of provision for fitting a center stand or bobbins for a pit-stand is short sighted for utility, the road slop protection for rider, suspension components and just about everything else one could wish protected by adequate mud guards is a more problematic choice. Promising, but short of the mark in critical areas that contribute to easy of use and sustainable ownership experience
Agreed, I would never by this bike due to those points you mention. When riding in the the rain you are riding a 'crap throwing' machine. Only a bike for dry days🙂
very good test, lots of detail's but when You talking about speed and fuel consumption please add some information in metric units like km/h or l/100km. Cheers
Nice review as ever TMF, you're leading the way on this bike. It doesn't quite do it for me personally but definitely an interesting proposition. There's an epic 10 bike group test waiting for MCN & the like in the not too distant I suspect. Can't go wrong with any of them really.
Currently on a Bonneville which has a few niggles, minor but annoying. Had a cb500x before which was comfortable, reliable and a great all round bike so this bike could definitely tempt me back. Good review. Honda will sell a lot of these.
Great review tmf on the hornet I’ve been looking at one of these at my dealer recently at my local dealer need to book a test ride there is a upgraded bike with quick shifter different exhaust headlight fairing plus a bit more which I can’t remember at the price increase at the moment and I thought it looked better anyway all the best.
It looks good, better than the MT-07, but certainly not the upgrade from my Street Triple that I was hoping for. It seems the only upgrade from a Street Triple is a newer Street Triple. Excellent review, thank you sir. Conceptually, I think Honda made the wrong bike. I think they should have a 750-900cc 4-cyliner called the Hornet and a 650-750 twin. Also, a bikini fairing would be nice.
Re No bobbin threads for paddock stand. I have an oxford paddock stand and it comes( in addition to the hooks ) with interchangeable flat supports that just go under the bottom surface of swingarm.
I really cant wait to see you review the transalp! This engine seems like a peach and I'm keen on the transalp version. But a bit worried its going to be too tall for a commuter for me at 5ft 9
The seat should be able to be lowered, and aside from that Honda notoriously undersprings factory suspension so once you're on, it will settle down nicely.
@@marcochavane3124 i dont think the seat is adjustable but it looks like there is a low seat option. Im always dubious about low seats and how comfortable they will be. You are right about the suspension haha!
Excellent real world review Andy. You manage to get all the key points of owning a new bike into a sensible length video. Thanks for answering my specific question on vibes. I wonder if the bike has a hollow rear wheel spindle like my MT07. I fitted some aftermarket bobbins and rod through the spindle. Martin W. 👍🏼
I’ve got an Africa twin and I have a user defined mode for town riding with lowest power and zero engine braking and I agree it’s not jerky then. Then I switch modes on the open road
Think you will find if the two plastic covers are removed from either side of the bike near to the foot rests. You will expose the swing arm pivots! I dare say Abba will make attachments for these very soon to allow a abba stand to be used. Yes it’s a pain to removed those plastic covers, but it does give you an option…
Well done. I enjoyed this follow-up video and answering viewers questions. There is no facility for using a Paddock stand does seem to be an oversight. Can't wait for a review of the 2023 Transalp.👍
i've decided to get one of these after checking out many bikes, it ticks so many boxes for me, & am currently in the process of looking around to get the best deal i can. I've seen many reviews, and this is one i particulary like as you address some points not mentioned elsewhere, so thanks for this:). btw a rear hugger and front mudguard extender will be high on my list of accessories, as will a quickshifter and meter visor. GL
@@TheMissendenFlyerthanks for the kind thought. I bought one not long after this, delivery next week. ive added a few accessories in addition to the ones i mentioned above, and those are a tank protector, kickstand enlarger, H&B engine guard, H&B sportrack & lockit bag & am going to do a bit of experimenting with a 3d mesh seat cover coz i do like my long rides, and may incorporate an inflatable or gel pad if the old behind gets a tad numb. i've just re-watched the vid, so thanks again. GL
Is a quick shifter worth having on a road bike? Especially as an expensive add-on? I can see benefits if you're using the bike for track days, racing etc. But for the average rider, does it make a big difference?
A fantastic review Mr Flyer, and making the bike an even better proposition than your 1st, early review. The slightly 'odd looking' front could be forgiven if it gives you that bit of extra weather protection lol.
Hi Andy I asked the question had you reviewed this bike after watching the transalp and yes you have probably more manageable the the adventure style bike moving around the driveway I will go to the dealer and lug them about see which on would suit my needs.
I’m really considering this in August. For the price it’s fantastic. Just looked online and you can pick up a rear mudder for just over £100 and a belly pan for £180ish. Plus can get a front extender. Annoying I’d need to spend extra but fuck dealing with all that mud lmao. Happy those negatives can be fixed tho. Can’t wait to view one in person
Great review as always. There's a lot to like about this bike, especially the price and performance. The exhaust sounds a bit clattery at some mid-revs but a good sound overall. It looks to be the exact same headlight as found on the 500X/F and upcoming Transalp. Cruise control would have been nice... I wish it were standard on most bikes with ride-by-wire. Glad to see riding season is getting warmer there -- I managed to get a few unusual February rides here in Canada but back to snow for at least another two weeks. Ride safe as always
Thanks for a great review (both of them). Going through your Pros and Cons, the real shame for me is the lack of proper mudguards and resulting 'crud' that gets thrown everywhere. Given the number of wet days we get here in the UK (esp in Cheshire) that's a lot of cleaning. Otherwise, a great bike and going on my short list.

Woo hoo! And thank you for welcoming me back to the channel. 🙂
Any time!
I’m about to finish my A2 and I’m considering this bike as my first bike. This is one of the best reviews I have seen so far. Just two more things I would like to see:
1. The hidden usb, if it’s posible to travel a cable through the inside to the handlebars
2. An in-depth of the menu
Sadly I no longer have the bike to check those out! Great choice for first bike though...
One Hornet video to rule them all. Thanks!
Thank you very much - you didn't need to do that but much appreciated!
Wow what a bike :)
Cannot be beaten at that price , I sat on one at the NEC and very nice
Couldn't agree more!
You have answered my question about cruise control, at the exact time I thought it. So I thought to myself, that you must be a Psychic. Then I realised, that the video is pre recorded. So you must be a Psychic who can see the furure! My faworite. Nice review!
Glad it was helpful! By the way, do the lottery this weekend...just sayin'
Thanks.
That's very kind of you thank you!
I wouldn't have a problem, I ride on both sides of the road anyway, why not I pay taxes for both sides ( very old joke) .
You could always get a paddock stand that sits under the swing arms instead of using bobbins. I had to use one of those for many years, it was fine.
Indeed...or an Abba stand....
Hornet I think....
Definitely one of the better reviews of the Hornet. Thank you TMF👏
Very kind of you to say!
I think it would be cool to see a retro styled one just like Yamaha and kawasaki did with the xsr700 or the 650 RS. The market may not be the same for retro bikes as it was like 5 years ago but still a less angular bike that doesn't look like a transformer may be cool.
I'd wager Honda will release a CL750 in the future to cover that retro styling, the CL500 is not the fastest bike in the lot
Welcome aboard!
Hervorragend, hab schon viele Videos zu der Honda CB 750 Hornet gesehen, aber nur Sie haben eine Fahrt bei Nacht gezeigt. Vielen Dank, Grüße aus Germany.
You're welcome!
Cracking review. Seen the Grey colour Hornet at the local dealer, and as you say, the quality is on point, value is excellent.
Ultimate guide ?, Ultimate understatement !,hands down the best review you have ever done on a bike in my humble opinion.👍
Crikey - thank you very much!
With regards to no centre stand, you can get a paddock stand with ‘pads’ so bobbins aren’t needed. This bike isn’t for me, but those indicators on as running lights would be the first thing to go!
I wonder how you would stop that??
Disconnect one of the three wires to the indicators, same on the Grom.
Hi Andy. Somebody has probably already said but I can't be bothered to read all the vomments😊.
The clippy thing in the toolcase is a fuse puller / fitter.
Great review as usual 👍
Comments honest typo 😮.
I like the word now though "vomments" haha.
Cheers - and you are right 😉
Clippy thing is a fuse extractor. Thanks for the great video. 👍
Good sign for the transalp... Thanks for the review
Yes isn't it - looking forward to trying that.....
Shame it's £2,500 more expensive!
Great review , I think Honda should be paying you for this , you did the bike proud , thinking of selling my 899 to get one this would be a better bike around especially with the uk weather and road conditions, 👍👍👍👍👍
Another great review, personally I won't buy a new bike without looking at your input, well done.
Wow! Much appreciated!
Excellent review as usual. Never liked the looks of the bike from the launch photos, however a friend of mine purchased a hornet in those very colours and i must admit the bike looks so much better in the flesh and i’m very impressed. Great bike to be fair to Honda.
The “clippy thing” is a fuse puller. Good review.
Thank you for answering the questions about the twitchy throttle / fuelling at slow speed; MCN review put me off but it’s back on the list of potentials now 👍🏼
Glad I could help!
Great review Andy, I'm deffo looking to get one of these on PCP in September so this review has helped make my mind up!
Glad I could help!
I rode the hornet yesterday, i loved every second of the ride and i could look past the styling as i prefer quasi retro bikes like the cb650r and xsr700 but unfortunately those colour options are ugly save the gray option and the lack of any spools or holes to put them in is a major misgiving
Valuable review, thanks. The lack of rear mud guard is shoddy. Unnecessary cost cutting. What were they thinking...
It’s surprising how many people have commented on that….
This bike deserves success it covers a wide number of applications and is easy to ride and comfortable and cheap.
I agree - I'm sure it will do well for Honda...
Andy, could you have a word with Richie about the road conditions you are riding on? I can understand now why you love your GS.
Great vid, thanks for taking up my suggestion on the turning circle 😎🇨🇦
Thanks for the idea!
Sorry about that....
Glad you liked it - thanks for the kind words!
Nice review has helped me with my decision on my next bike.
Them roads were shocking as well
Tell me about it!
very good test, lots of detail's but when You talking about speed and fuel consumption please add some information in metric units like km/h or l/100km. Cheers
Noted!
Hi ser! Clippy thing is for take out the fuses! Thx for the video!
Thanks for the info!
I like the looks of if, especially in profile. With a couple of practical tweaks, it looks like a good buy.
Nice review as ever TMF, you're leading the way on this bike. It doesn't quite do it for me personally but definitely an interesting proposition. There's an epic 10 bike group test waiting for MCN & the like in the not too distant I suspect. Can't go wrong with any of them really.
Yes a competitive part of the market this - good for us riders!
Currently on a Bonneville which has a few niggles, minor but annoying. Had a cb500x before which was comfortable, reliable and a great all round bike so this bike could definitely tempt me back. Good review. Honda will sell a lot of these.
Totally agree
I had a CB500X as my first bike, brilliant thing! Just not enough ooompf on the motorway when my commute changed.
Thanks for the measurements TMF
No problem 👍
Yes that would work!
Another great review Andy. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
Tidy review thanks for taking the time
No problem 👍
Great vid as always Sir! My question is get this or the Suzuki GSX 8S???????
Haven’t ridden the Suzuki yet!
The touring package for this bike is really nice. What a shame that cruise control is not available, otherwise it would be perfect for road trips.
Such a shame. All bikes with throttle by wire should have cruise control. The CB300R and Fireblade should have cruise control.
Very detailed Andy I enjoyed that 👍
Bar set for you mate....looking forward to your assesment - when can I expect your first vid?? Taking your tine aren't you ;0)
Excellent real world review Andy. You manage to get all the key points of owning a new bike into a sensible length video. Thanks for answering my specific question on vibes. I wonder if the bike has a hollow rear wheel spindle like my MT07. I fitted some aftermarket bobbins and rod through the spindle. Martin W. 👍🏼
Yes I should have looked at that and didn't - bike went back today so too late now!!
I’ve got an Africa twin and I have a user defined mode for town riding with lowest power and zero engine braking and I agree it’s not jerky then. Then I switch modes on the open road
Yes that's how I found this operated better for sure....
Yes I'm a huge fan of Abba stands, and indeed Abba in general - Knowing me, knowing you, aha!!
Great review as always! I'm excited to see your impressions on the new GSX8S when it's available to you
You and me both!
Great continuity/editing on these vids now 😊
Thanks! 😊 I'm so glad you noticed....
Wow! Nice hoodie! Lovely review as always and the 'middle weight' section has just gotten more difficult to choose from. Cheers!
Thanks so much!
Well done. I enjoyed this follow-up video and answering viewers questions. There is no facility for using a Paddock stand does seem to be an oversight. Can't wait for a review of the 2023 Transalp.👍
Me neither!
Great review! It shows you put a lot of work in to your videos👌🏻
I’m glad you spotted that!
i've decided to get one of these after checking out many bikes, it ticks so many boxes for me, & am currently in the process of looking around to get the best deal i can. I've seen many reviews, and this is one i particulary like as you address some points not mentioned elsewhere, so thanks for this:). btw a rear hugger and front mudguard extender will be high on my list of accessories, as will a quickshifter and meter visor. GL
SOund like sensible additions to me - great bike, enjoy!
I like em yes…
I'm waiting for mine to arrive in Australia. Very excited.
Have you ordered one?? What colour?
Great review as always. There's a lot to like about this bike, especially the price and performance. The exhaust sounds a bit clattery at some mid-revs but a good sound overall. It looks to be the exact same headlight as found on the 500X/F and upcoming Transalp. Cruise control would have been nice... I wish it were standard on most bikes with ride-by-wire.
Glad to see riding season is getting warmer there -- I managed to get a few unusual February rides here in Canada but back to snow for at least another two weeks. Ride safe as always
Cheers - you too!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching....
