Hey, The RSC2 Pro Combo is not fully compatible with Sony cameras. When using the Raveneye, you lose the ability to control ISO, aperture, or autofocus. I tested it with the Sony A7Riii. After fussing around for a couple of weeks, I called DJI and they told me that they don't know if there will be a software/firmware update to address this issue. If you don't use the Raveneye, the gimbal works fine.
With the 1st gen Ronin SC, I had to find out the hard way that mounting my EOS R with almost ANY lens except for a short 50mm or RF 35mm wasn't going to work as I couldn't get a full articulation without my eye piece hitting the 2nd axis motor at the back. (tilting up). Did you have any trouble with swinging this setup upside down? Can you still fully articulate in all directions even with this big lens on it? Thanks!!

the ronin sc2 is not 100% compatible with the Canon 250D (SL3). The camera has a mini USB connector on the right side, which makes it impossible to connect the camera with the DJI RSC2 cable. I noticed two situations: 1. When we use a heavy lens, we move the camera as far back as possible and then the cable can be connected (but I had to bend it strongly). 2. using small lenses - e.g. 24stm. 40stm, 50mm (1.8f version) we cannot connect the cable. The camera body is too close to the gimbal arm. Has anyone in you solved this problem?
My camera is normally on an L bracket. Do I need to switch that out for the Arca Swiss plate that's included or can I just mount using my standard L bracket?
So you can't balance it 100% but you can get it 90% of the way just by tilting it as much as you can before it hits the mic on the arm and then going through the balance process
I am using a gripped EOS R5 and want to use this gimbal with the RF 50mm 1.2. My setup is 2.23 kg, which is under the max rating for the RSC-2. I am new to gimbals and wondering if I will be able to balance this setup and get good results. I have read that people had poor results with the RSC (v1) with heavier gear, even when under the limit. Thanks for the video!
So I definitely think you should go with the RS-2. Even though you are below the weight, the RSC2 will not have the same flexibility for balancing the camera that the RS2 does. Typically I would stay under 50% of the actual weight limit for best performance and to balance well

Most new cameras and new lenses have very reliable autofocus with silent motors on the lenses. Pretty much any lens announced in the last 3-5 years has a silent AF motor.
Can I use the DJI rsc2 with Sony fdr ax700? Is there enough clearance between the gimbal and the camcorder battery when rotates along the pitch axis? Thanks.
Great Video Dan. Is there a way to use the old GPS Module from the RoninS. When shooting cars or bikes out of a trunk its absolutley a must for me. Especially when moving a bit faster. Or is there something built in? Thx.
Hey Dan, Now that you've had a little more time playing around with the RSC2, would you be able to tell me if there's the following feature? Does the RSC2 have the Motionlapse? Also, can we save more than one track as presets? I'm trying to see if it's possible to shoot the same scene with exactly the same gimbal motion more than once over and over, for example, the same shot both in the daytime and nighttime... I won't be using it as a timelapse obviously, just 10-15 second shots
I heard someone say they balanced it but I don't see how. I don't personally have that camera but it's so wide I feel like the adjustment isn't quite there. It can theoretically hold the weight but it may not balance well

As someone looking to purchase my first gimbal, I'm torn. The Ronin-SC is on sale for $279 right now, vs $499 for the RSC2. Do you think the extra $200 is worth it for the newer version?
As far as actually stabilizing the camera, not really but the features, weight, and ergonomics can make a huge difference if you use a gimbal often but B&H is including a free $170 hard case with the RSC2 right now! bhpho.to/342uXMf
@@learningcameras Question- You mentioned the weight. Is the sc2 lighter? I compared weights and the way DJI site strangely gives the weight without the battery.. Which is actually the lighter of the 2?
Can the new RSC2 do the older style auto-tracking if you mount your phone on top of the camera, or does it only work when you have the new HDMI-to-phone transmitter?
Paul Kenward even with the RS2, it still needs the additional transmitter to track on the rear screen. I am curious about the RSC2 without the added cost transmitter.
So it does mean that 3+ years from now, battery life could start decreasing but I'm guessing since most people don't use these every day, you should be able to use it for a long time. The only issue is if you don't have access to a charger or forget to charge...which I'm sure is rare.
Excellent video. I have RSC-2 using with Canon 90D and primarily 16-35mm f/2.8 L II. If I add my microphone to the camera hot shoe, there is no way I can balance using the DJI instructions for balancing the gimbal because the microphone assembly touches the gimbal components while tilt balancing. How do you balance with the microphone attached?
So you don't have to have the lens facing completely vertical to figure out if it is off balance in that area. Usually I can just tilt it forward (or backwards) right before the mic hits the back arm and that will tell me which way I need to adjust it to get things balanced.
Can anyone tell me if older models such as Canon EOS 700D are supported? In the official .pdf only 800D from the series is listed, but I'm still curious. Anyone?
So I don't know but "supported" just means that you can control certain cameras functions from the gimbal but you can absolutely still use it for stabilization

Most new cameras and new lenses have very reliable autofocus with silent motors on the lenses. Pretty much any lens announced in the last 3-5 years has a silent AF motor.
QUESTION: I want to mount a camera (Canon M50 or M6) with the usb port on the right - does anyone has the same pairing? Is this a problem?
Can I connect my lumix g7 with this gimbal with these special cable for Pannasonic ?
Can I use the DJI rsc2 with Sony fdr ax700? Is there enough clearance between the gimbal and the camcorder battery when rotates along the pitch axis? Thanks.
Cool transitions in the intro Dan 👌🏼
Thanks!!!
Which one do you advise me? dji rsc2 vs zhiyun weebill s
Why would you want to invest in a 2 year old device? Go with the RSC2!
Great Video Dan. Is there a way to use the old GPS Module from the RoninS. When shooting cars or bikes out of a trunk its absolutley a must for me. Especially when moving a bit faster. Or is there something built in? Thx.
Hey Dan,
Now that you've had a little more time playing around with the RSC2, would you be able to tell me if there's the following feature?
Does the RSC2 have the Motionlapse? Also, can we save more than one track as presets?
I'm trying to see if it's possible to shoot the same scene with exactly the same gimbal motion more than once over and over, for example, the same shot both in the daytime and nighttime...
I won't be using it as a timelapse obviously, just 10-15 second shots
Great video! I'm thinking about buying my 1st gimball and it's not an easy choice. This one might just be what I'm looking for!
Awesome!!!
Good choice for the bmpcc systems ? Even with some rigging to it ?
I heard someone say they balanced it but I don't see how. I don't personally have that camera but it's so wide I feel like the adjustment isn't quite there. It can theoretically hold the weight but it may not balance well
I see the focus zoom wheel on the new SC2, does it work without the focus motor but simply with a usb-c cable connected from my GH5S to the gimbal? exactly like it was with the Ronin SC model and compatible lenses. thanks for your help.
Has anyone's power button ever actually gotten jammed when pressing it in??? I couldn't even turn off the gimbal when it happened. It literally got pushed into the device. Had to get mine replaced, luckily it was within the 14 day return period.
Yikes! Nope, still going strong here
Awesome video. Which lens are you using on the camera in this video. Is that an adapter on the front of the lens as well?
Thanks! That's just the Canon RF 24-105mm F4 without an adapter
@@learningcameras Thanks man. Is that your go to lens to use on this gimbal. After watching your video I had to have that gimbal. We have the moza but it malfunctions alot and we wanted something more reliable.
@@Yendor227 Nice! So I either use that lens or I go primes. But for a zoom lens the 24-105mm F4 or a 24-70 F2.8 is a great choice. What camera do you use?
@@dswatson83 cool bro, I have the Sony A7 III for personal use. My wife and kids gave it to me for fathers day once. My background is television and corporate video. We have a couple Canon 5D’s, 2 Sony F55’s, a Sony Venice and Sony studio cameras. We have a set of high $$ Zeis primes for the Sony field cameras. I’m about to launch one of my son’s music so I’m planning to do music videos with the A7lll and ronin setup. Really want to make some good vids for him. Your stuff is really on point man.
nice vid. do you think this gimbal would work with a smallrig cage (and r6 and 24-70f4ef) as it seems like the r5 is close to the limit and using a cage would raise the CofM by about 12mm (I guess)
I notice DJI don’t support changing the battery even by sending them the gimbal. So it has expiration date. So my response to perfection? Certainly not. I will wait one version with interchangeable batteries, or i won’t buy.
I don't know about you but I never keep a gimbal "forever"...literally 2-3 years tops and I'm upgrading for something else. Or who knows, maybe electronic/digital/gyro IBIS will be perfect by then
@@learningcameras i keep all my things very long time. My amplifier and high end speakers have 18 years old and it sounds perfectly today. I still have my car from 2008 and it runs perfectly and will for even another 5 years or more. I still have my camcorder from 2010, and it has features that only recent camera start to get like touch tracking and focus assist and additional sensor zoom, digital microphone. So if i get a gimbal and it stabilize perfectly, why would i spend another 600$ 3 years later. I don’t want that. I bought a sony a7c and hope to keep it 15 years if possible, as i don’t think the tv above 4k will be successful. And 24mp is perfectly good forever. So i won’t buy dji until they do replaceable battery or offer the battery replacement service, or i will go to the concurrent zhiyun which offer the battery feature.
Which one is your pick between DJI Ronin RSC2 and Zhiyun weebil 2
Right now I'd go with the RSC2. I like the weebil 2 in a few ways but it had some quirks that never made it my goto gimbal of choice
Do you think the RF 15-35 needs the Y shaped lens support?
Should be fine without it. It's usually for lenses that already need support like a 70-200 or heavy cinema lens
ill try my RF 70-200 2.8 wich has a similiar size like the RF 15-35 and give u a feedback.
You forgot to show the suitcase position. Is it good and easy to switch in?
I didn't even know about it when I made this video lol. It is super easy...just loosen a lock and the entire gimbal can be folded into that position. Takes about 10 seconds tops although is a little harder to do with a camera on it
I have this gimball. Had it since release. Amazing gimbal. I don't usually use suitcase mode as it exposes a cable which could easily be damaged.
Great vid.....how did you balance it with the rode mic.....I had to take mine off because it wouldn't calibrate it on tilt balance....thanks and again great review!!!!! 👍
Yeah I actually have the exact same question, would like to hear from you @Dan Watson!
Do you think this can balance a 24-105mm f/4 on a Eos R6?
Absolutely it will!
im sure i can use my R6 with my 1,6kg heavy heavy Sigma 105mm/1.4 Art :D :D :D
@@learningcameras What about R5 with RF 70-200?
@@edleimanis9453 If you can, you will not get the full range of motion
how it will handle a7s+ sigma 18-35?
does this come with the case?
Yep
Should I buy the pro combo? And why?
If you have manual focus lenses then get the pro. It has a focus wheel system and the ability to wireless video
Does the focus wheel work with the R5?
I am told the R5 isn't supported for that yet but not 100% on that
What microphone and cover do you have on that setup?
Active tracking?...
I have the ronin s and ordered this , since the battery grip isn’t replaceable would that be something to be concerned about ?
So it does mean that 3+ years from now, battery life could start decreasing but I'm guessing since most people don't use these every day, you should be able to use it for a long time. The only issue is if you don't have access to a charger or forget to charge...which I'm sure is rare.
Hi sir , I m planning buy gimbal for sony a7iii with Tamron 28-75. I am confused between dji RSC 2 and moza air cross 2.. which one you recommend ?
Definitely get the RSC 2. It is a better gimbal and has a similar feature set: bhpho.to/316Sqdt
@@learningcameras That worked! Thank you
Can anyone tell me if older models such as Canon EOS 700D are supported? In the official .pdf only 800D from the series is listed, but I'm still curious. Anyone?
So I don't know but "supported" just means that you can control certain cameras functions from the gimbal but you can absolutely still use it for stabilization
@@learningcameras Thank you for the fast reply! I appreciate.
OMG genius point! buying a spare Manfrotto to Arca swiss plate to leave on your tripod! I'm sold, as use Moza Air 2 as has Manfrotto plate but that be perfect.
Looks awesome... would love to see a comparison vs the Moza Aircross 2. 🧐
Will it be good with a7c or futur a7iv with 24-105mm with ecm b1m microphone.?
I use mine with the A7SIII and an even larger mic with no issues so absolutely should be good with that setup
thanks for your great video on Ronin SC2!!! They are very useful. Could you tell me the size of the quick release plate that is given with the gimbal?
Can you attach things to the side, like a monitor arm?
Yes you can although it is a proprietary attachment so you have to buy specific attachment arms or a DJI cheese plate
I have the crane 2s on pre order, should I cancel and get this? I'll be filming boat show walkthrus, fishing kayaks overview and reviews on my upcoming a7siii I'm upping my game lol. Hey Dan I think your channel should have 5x the views and subs, the robot is weird like that, it always pick its favorites
Yeah you should
I'm actually thinking you should maybe cancel the 2S and get this instead. I loved that Crane 2s but the Ronin really impressed me WAY more than I thought it would.
Thanks so much Aliex!!! Means so much. Yeah, always at the mercy of the good old algorithms hahaha. Well, I'll keep making vids and appreciate people like you spreading the word and sharing!!!
@@learningcameras hi dan, I actually went back canceled the crane 2s order, then pre ordered the rsc2 combo but it was out of stock for god knows how long so this morning I canceled that order and bought the rs2 pro combo lol 😆 shipping today so I should get it Monday...still no a7siii.... I made sure to click on your affiliate link before ordering so I hope you get the credit from b&h but we all know how those affiliate stuff work....
@@AliexFolgueira Hahaha, well at least you got one! The RS2 is awesome so don't worry lol. I'm still waiting on my SIII too...the copy I have is a loaner from Sony at the moment. Appreciate you using the affiliate link!!! Yep, a click of that should do the trick. Appreciate the support Aliex!
How well does it work with GH5
I don't have the GH5 anymore but it should work perfectly
Crane 2S or RSC 2?
Excellent video!
Great review! But do you Think the Rsc2 would be good for my canon eos250d / sl3? :D
Yep, should be perfect for that
@@learningcameras perfect!
Anyone tried RSC-2 with GH5+Viltrox+Sigma 18-35? Will it hold and be strong enough for that kind of specification?
Great stuff brother. Super Helpful
Do you think it can handle a Sony A7iii with its 24-105 f4?
Their total weight is 1,390 gr.
Thanks
I do think it will hold that. I've used similar setups with no issues
@@learningcameras ok, thank you.
It‘s called DJI RSC-2. The R stands for ‚Ronin‘.
