Wish they made an E63 Coupe. This car looks gorgeous, it would make the perfect AMG coupe pretty much.
S63/s65 sales drop by 80%
HG504 truuu
Who would then buy the S Coupé?
Looks basically the same (little bit bigger and crystal taillights) but way less expensive.
Verrückter Hodenkobold I think it's looks better and it's more luxurious
@@ProdigySpite yea exactly that is actually true they just about sold most of their 2019+ S - classes especially AMG models so
Best car journalist/reviewer. And you look more rested nowadays! Good work!
Honestly while the V8 is the best in AMG, the straight six engine is really good
So happy to see that Mercedes brought back that engine and it’s also perfect for AMG like the V8
Love the 63 but the 53 series is pretty cool because of that straight six engine
check out this one ua-cam.com/video/YiRweDRwofA/v-deo.html
@@yunglosey5912 can you fuck off with your begs
Straight 6 engines are special now, somehow?
valgehiir nobody said that... however they’ve always been desirable for their smoothness and sound, and because nobody really makes them anymore outside of BMW, it does make them quite unique.
Matthew Pilbrow yeah I definitely agree
Cavansite Blue Metallic. Love it. Suits that car so well.
You guys find some of the best music, and I think that it’s under appreciated. Thanks for the great review as always!
Thanks for exploring how the electric and the inline 6 engines work together over the road.
Nice review. I've always thought the E53 was a bit of a sleeper car for Mercedes. I'm seriously looking to get a low mileage used one.
My thoughts as well. The 1st owner will not have treated it badly either. Happy hunting.
Peasants.
You might as well get a C63 Coupe for damn near the same amount of money plus it's a REAL AMG.
@@freddieredding4565 Shut the fuck up mate. This is a much better car than a c63
My GLC43 AMG with Eurocharge tune makes 486hp and 528 torque. 0 to 60 in 3.4 seconds and quarter in 11.6seconds. No need to V8. The SUV is super reliable and highway monster.
Absolutely awesome motor , test drove a 70 plate in blue and came back to show room ,traded my BMW X5 GO5 3.0d M Sport .
0:39 What an absolutely stunning color
It sounds very good actually!
Literally my favorite Mercedes. No b-pillar and an elegant design. Can't wait for the upcoming facelift
I think if Mercedes dropped the AMG badge on this car and just added the motor and etc as options to the E450 nobody would have complained
53 is the most interesting powertrain in any mfg lineup today. Wish I could "reward" M-B by buying one!
All this, plus it's a 2 door! Very beautiful
I really love the E Coupe, I think it's the best looking german coupe at the moment, it's a real shame that they don't make a 63.
Give me a 45 , 53. I'd happily drive it and be freaking proud of it. F*k those saying it's not a proper AMG. ☺️ Just sub. 👍
Great review and you clearly get the car.....i love it because it's so versatile, im delighted its not a tail happy twicthy 2 wheel drive tradional amg. The e53 doesn't care that its tyres arnt warm and road is damp, the 4matic ensures you feel safe and secure at all times. infact in damper conditions i'd bet (i.e. reality in UK 60% of time) it would slay many other v8 powered 4 seat amgs out there. People who worry about is it a real amg should consider the motivations above, same is true of idiots who want to rename it taking amg out, they worked on the suspension, powertrain, steering, etc...so doh yes its an amg, just not the lunatic about to kill you you think an amg has to be. Welcome to progress....
A much more mature and intricate review compared to other 53 reviews on youtube. Some couldnt say anything other than it “isnt a real AMG”
What a fantastic daily driver.
So good looking😍💙
I need that intro song immediately please
Genuinely impressed. Might have a look at one in the Merc garage.
I really like how this lovely car is presented, great job thank you.
Henry catchpole in a car..enough said..always entertaining
You guys always choose music that matches the car quite well.
When is the LCC Rocket film going to be released?! That is my favorite car. Critically underrated and undocumented.
Really nice review and camera angles.!
you are the best Henry
It looks great, and is probably a fantastic all-round GT: comfy, lots of presence, enough power to leave most cars behind in a straight line, stable, elegant, full of tech, etc.
I’m also glad MB is bringing the straight-6 back.
But would I have one over an 8 Series? Probably not.
I bought a c63 coupe edition 1 and depreciation hit hard. Now I have a 992GTS I purchased a low klms 2019 model for 40% of a new car price and as a daily it’s perfect
talking about the straight 6, why haven't you guys done a review of the M140i yet
Pointless now it’s old and BMW won’t give a press car
this is carfection, not carmediocrity
More tech explaining please, that 48V stuff boggles the mind for an older chap :)
It is all about a subform of Ohms law: P=V*I (P= Power in Watt, V=Voltage in Volt, I= Current in Ampere) For examle: 48V means that for the same power (Watt) you have less current (Ampere) than with 12V. Which can be used in two ways: you can either use cabeling with smaller cross section and smaller fuses for the same power, or you can transport more power than with a 12V system over the same cross section cabeling and fuses. (48V and 2 Amps make 96Watt, with 12V you need 8 amps for 96Watt; or if you have a 15 amp fuse and and cabeling, you can use 180W with a 12 V system, but 720W with a 48V System.)
There is still a 12V System in such cars to run normal car stuff (as lots of auxiliary things are not yet common in 48V) The 48V system is (to my knowledge) mainly used for electrical turbos (e-supercharger), starter-generators and light systems. Especially the electrical turbos need power, and with 12V your cabeling, fuses, generator, battery ect. would be too big bulky and heavy, so the manufacturers didn't build them before they had working 48V systems.
A review on the latest CLA45s please? and the A45s too
If the best thing about it is the responsive Start / Stop feature, I think we have the answer to the video's title question.
Excellent review. Please do some overviews of modern classics, like the older M cars, AMGs of the 80-early 2000’, etc
First off Start/Stop, I like start stop at a signal light it shuts down the car and it's very robust never I felt that my car will not start up after shutting down.
Also the other think I like about it is the Roar of the engine and exhaust.
I Do see your point that if you are stuck in stop and fo traffic how stop start can be extremely annoying ( as everytime you come to a complete stop that dr shuts down) there is a button ECO on the center dash that you can press to turn off.
That said all Mercedes AMG's are know for there sound and exhaust note.
Mileage I get in my car is 13mpg no matter how fast or slow I drive
I think your car has a softer comfortably ride.
Ride in E63 is hard in comfort mode.
Sadly my wife just wouldnt spring for the E53 coupe, primarily she hated the sportier seats (I loved them), the extra cost lease wise vs a like priced E450 coupe (I didn't care LOL) and it was a lil too sporty for her(Again I LOVED it). Our E450 is very nice but I would rather the E53 any day of the week, the sound and handling is great. I think its the best value in the line for MB
Nice, very beautiful car, when driving in this blue color it is a true sleeper car
balanced power output compared to the 63.... nice car
Love how Merc doesn’t bother to have any dippy insignias of green / blue / or electric.
The models look too much alike lately......u used to be able to clearly tell the difference between a c63 e63 s63 now they literally all look alike
Dude, I couldn't agree more.
@@justinedzard this looks exactly like the c63 coupe and s63 coupe!!! If u took off the badges on them I guarentee people would just it was dif trim line of the same model
Yep, unless the are next to each other, it's nearly impossible to tell what model it is. I suppose thats the point, C class owner wont feel too bad, debadged, neighbors will never know if it is $140.000 S Coupe, or C200 Diesel, with AMG Optic option.
E class coupe is a beauty compared to non 63 C coupes. No b pillar with the windows down in summer is slick.
Because that cuts down on cost of building them. Welcome to the new age of building "luxury" cars.
Wasn't completly sure about the E43 AMG (which was only offered as a 4 door - W213) but the streight-6 in the E53 AMG is a great car imo. Like the fact that Mercedes switched to an inline-6 and the EQ boost system is a real benefit for both sporty and efficient driving that a hybrid system is not (since the weight increases unproportionally to the gains - at least for sport driving)
Far too quiet without the AMG Performance Exhaust . Don't think it was available at launch on the UK E53s.
Has the E53 a similar stiff ride as the E63 or is it a bit softer and more comfortable ?
I loved the interior and the dash when it came out a few years ago but damn, somehow the styling has aged very quickly.
The 43and 53s is what I called the Half-Ass AMG
The last AMG was the 2006 E55. Everything after that is a piss take. Mercedes is nowhere near what it used to be. They don't make w211 E55s or w210 e55s anymore. Not to mention the w123, w124, w126, w140. Mercedes, let alone AMG, once was, and never again.
I love these reviews and the car looks amazing. My only niggle as an OCD car cleaner could you pop it round to mine before a shoot so I can clean the windows? Very distracting Henry
Where did you hear that the engine noise is being piped through the Burmester system? I've been told multiple times by M-B reps that it specifically does NOT pipe fake noise through the stereo system.
Compared to the old V8 sleds, this is a refreshing change. Straight six powerplants are turbine smooth and coupled with turbocharging and in this case, electrification, makes for an impressive platform. The V8's had their day in the sun but with tightening emissions and stringent fuel economy requirements, the I6 begins to make a lot of sense. I speak from experience as I've owned V8 powered BMW's. I now drive a BMW M2 and I don't miss the V8 one bit.
Wow its like you read my mind! Been thinking about this model for her last two days and pop.. Your video appears! Ha 👌👍
Nice review…I drive a S63 coupe, I love the “magic” ride, but hate the MPG and also that it doesn’t fit in my garage. I drove a C43 for a couple of years but felt the ride was a bit too “jiggly” (very technical I know)….so was wondering if anyone out there has a view on the comfort here…..it very important to my passenger (who has a E220 AMG Night edition)….who holds 1/2 of the budget!
There should be no 53 series cars they should be labeled as 500.
More Money this way
C500??
@@YoungDen There is no C53...
Luke R I think he means the 43 and 53 respectively
By releasing countless AMG variants, and now these watered down 'every man's' low cost AMG, Benz is losing the cache of what AMG once stood for - something very special.
Funny how BMW were doing the Activehybrid models 5 years ago that do pretty much the same thing, but nobody wanted them over a diesel.
Cool groove by the way: Fast lane 4oresight
I’m thinking of buying one and get stage 1 which will boost it to 500hp🤩
I tried the estate version and was amazed at how bad the rear legroom was and that with a 6ft driver you can’t get your feet under the seat without their head on the roof There is more room in a Golf !
Waiting for 2020 Shelby GT 500 review
Love the powertrain but not having only 4-matic in all 43s amd 53s really sucks.
This is to the E63 AMG S what the A35 AMG is to the A45 AMG S. It's a cheaper version but retaining some of the fun. Though, when you wouldn't want to pull up beside an E63 AMG S in it.
It's reet luvly that car.
As one of the only pillar-less hardtops still on the market, how much fun is it to cruise around with all of the windows down??
43, for when you can't afford a 53.
53, for when you can't afford a 63.
43 and 53 cost basically the same.
I dont think merc actually make an e63 coupe. Dont take my word for it though.. so to my knowledge this might actually be the most expensive e- class coupe.
Bradley Attard they don’t your correct
Not everyone wants a 600hp powered E class.Someone wants sporty E class,something just like E43...
A when you can't afford C..when you can't afford E etc etc.Its called a range of cars. Whats the point of pointing this out ???
That gets better mpg than my 2017 mini
Purple fringing on the thumbnail, heavy. Great video, as always. Cheers.
Random comment: I am SO GLAD Mercedes decided to stop putting that stupid chrome strip on the back of their cars. That alone improves this year's version.
Anyways, nice video Carfection -- no surprises there. :-D
Man I can't keep up with their model naming anymore
The question I like answered : Are the responses from the 53 amg on par with bi turbo V8s like the one of BMW M550I? I ask this question because they're both priced similarly. Do you really not miss the 2 extra cylinders after all?.
I so wish they'd put this powertrain in the E-Class wagon T_T (especially as a USA resident)
They do. (At least in Europe you can configure an E53 Wagon on their websites.)
@@nirfz can you please smuggle one over to the USA for me :'(
@@johnyu88 i'll wrap one in bubble wrap and cardbord and label it as "urgently needed medical device", maybe that will work ;-) I never got why they don't sell certain things in the US. At least the cars they are selling are cheaper for US customers. (less taxes and mostly fully spect out)
merc should called it mgu-k for the next version
Thanks for the review. How does the steering compare with the 992 especially at low speeds and just off centre? Many thanks
E53 4 doors is the best all round car in the world
Get it remaped!! What is one like one it’s remapped? I imagine ICE would have around 500bhp
The music at the start of the video was enough to make me shut it down.
It’s a naming/marketing tactic. They want to sell more cars on back of AMG fandom. They couldn’t come up with what S5 is to a RS5 so AMG “lower number” naming system.
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Thank you for this review.I ordered 10 days ago the new GLE 53 AMG and i'll hope it will be amazing
You ordered AMG wannabe.
@@valgehiir yeahh exactly, like wanabee rich and then i throw for a car 140000$ cash like you buy your cheesburger
Nah, I don't like burgers, and I drive real AMG. Don't feel hurt, life isn't fair :)
@real rockrolla, you need to check pricing, before you lie your ass off here, GLE 53 sticker is $75.00, since you said you 'threw' $140.000 for it, did you buy two of them lol. Coincidentally, I paid 140.000 € for my SL55 AMG. Clown!
As great as this model can be, let me have all day long the C207 V8 version. 😁
Great car but it would be so cool if there were a 63 version to compete with M6
->Merc and BMW have the same issue that Audi does not have. Market wants sportier models so they begin using the AMG/M badges on everything and killing their halo brands. These 53 cars are great cars, but will always be labeled as knockoffs or cheap 63s and I think it actually dissuades potential buyers who appreciate what AMG is. This should be the new E560.
->MB should have developed a third (named and separate) luxury line (with Maybach at the top this this range) to sit where Audi's "A" models do.. Regular MB models (550, etc) would become sportier than past and sit as the "S" models in the lineup but NOT use AMG name and compete / hurt the halo 63 cars.
It is sad to see AMG badge becoming meaningless, after such illustrious history. Remember SL73? Now we have E klass AMG taxis.
@@valgehiir totally. 63 cars used to be head turners. So subtle, but it was special and unjustifiable unless you really loved driving. Now every mom looking for a SUV specs an AMG.
how about livability/reliability video on it (boring I know!)? Not sure if it just feels like it but at least once a week my google news feed talks about some Merc recalls happening. Is it just me or are recalls happening more frequently because cars are getting more complicated?
37mpg on a straight 6 large coupe with +400hp? WHY HAVE AUDI GONE DIESEL?! 🤪😱
track name? love it
I think this is a really good car
430 bhp just right power
Side note: From someone on his 14th crap can, this is gonna be an absolute devils nightmare in 20 years.
It's not an e53 AMG it's an AMG E53 hate when they get that wedding
Is it a Proper AMG? Depends on your definition of what constitutes a true AMG. For me, only the 63 hand-built engines count. But this car is a beast even if it's a 53, and it's cheaper.
To me it's future of AMG, the Heir apparent
. Big Turbo Inline 6 and even bigger 20kwh battery powering somewhere around 200kw of electric motors. That realy needs to be done with cutting edge capacity dense batteries and compact motors. Problem is straight line Performance would be very very similar to their twin turbo V8.
@@Neojhun That's not really a bad thing, right? People still want the future toned downed AMG's to still be similar to their V8 predecessors.
@@HiddenWen It should be an option of both ideally. But can AMG even support both as a business? Also it's only toned down interms of exhaust sound, but that Inline 6 Turbo can still have a good howl. Performance wise it could easily be way more powerful.
@@Neojhun Yeah, inline 6's have their own unique sounds. Sadly, that powerful v8 grumble sitting in a C-class was what made AMG's so unique.
@@HiddenWen The current AMG Twin Turbo V8 is one of the few turbo V8 from the factory which sounds amazing. Adding that Turbo exhaust system is an obvious challenge to make it sound right. Seems like very few others can do it, closest thing is Audi RS7 but that is still softer airier.
I drove one and to be honest: it’s a good car, name it e 500 and its all good. But it is far from an real amg car.
John O RA i agree, i have drove one and its more like a s in audis range, bit of an allrounder but not as agressive as a rs model
The "500" moniker has Always stood vor V8s though.
@@daniel3257 63 used to mean 6.3 liter but that isn't the case now as well so 500 should be ok.
It’s a naming/marketing tactic. They want to sell more cars on back of AMG fandom. They couldn’t come up with what S5 is to a RS5 so AMG “lower number” naming system.
Well.. Look a few years back and you'll see that AMGs weren't always "hardcore" or whatever you mean is a real AMG
The problem with new cars these days is the fact that they are getting heavier and heavier. This means you have to keep increasing power. So you do that, but you still do not get a car that is nimble ....
Thanks Henry. You’re right it’s not an AMG. This sort of AMG is why I left BMW for Audi. After owning and paying a hefty premium for M3’s for 2 decades I got sick and tired of seeing some sort of “M” badge in what seemed to be every stock BMW on the road. Similarly this AMG dilutes the AMG brand and leaves people like me cold. I can only hope Audi doesn’t start diluting the RS brand as I love my RS5. Thanks for another great video. 🇨🇦👍
Wow that's kind of sad if you think about it. Paying for a Brand is kind of wasteful and pointless. What should matter is how the car works. Not sure why perception of the brand matters to you soo much. Car as a status symbol is already dieing thanks to irresponsible debt financing. It just seems like a trap.
What I don’t get about the stop start technology is why people think it’s great? Sure your cat gets cold and then you just pump out a load of emissions? Otherwise awesome vid
Is the aircon compressor electric or belt driven for this motor? The dependence on belt-driven compressors is biggest downfall for start-stop tech in tropical Asia.
This car looks perfect apart from the black plastic rear diffuser
Can you review a Range Rover p400e?
I know it's very "Carwow" but I'd like to see what it's like 0-62 please 👍
Interesting..
I DON'T CARE IF IT ISN'T A REAL AMG....AS LONG AS IT IS A REAL MERCEDES WITH SOME EXTRA EXTRA POWER THAN THE NORMAL..... SO I AM PLENTY HAPPY THIS PRODUCT EXISTS..
Yes
When Daimler can develop a proper high density battery. They should build a proper PHEV version with atleast 20kwh battery that can probably feed 200kw motor. That Inline 6 could have a big laggy Turbo but it would not be a problem because you have 200kw of electric motor for the low end. Inline 6 PHEV hybrid makes perfect sense for a Fast GT.
Is they made an E63 Coupe it would just ruin sales of the Flagship S63 coupe
