I happen to own a C238 E400 (same body style, same gen) with the older Bi-turbo V6 with the Adaptive cruise. I’m reasonably big and strong but the door weight is sizable and uphill/downhill, my wife struggles a bit with the weight. I would not be surprised if the door weighed 175lbs. When I got the car the adaptive cruise was set to obey the speed limit (plus 10mph). It would occasionally notice a lower speed limit sign and would inappropriately slow down. This “feature” can be disabled in the menus while retaining the good parts of adaptive cruise. In traffic at lower speeds, it can fully self-drive if its recognizing the road( there is an indicator thats green when its ok, yellow when its having trouble, off when it’s given up) You need to supervise, but it’s pretty reliable. Even when its disengaged, it can autobrake and/or steer ( if it detects room to steer) via the collision assistance feature, but this will activate the pre-collision system which will hard-tighten the seatbelts, close windows/sunroof, and will do even more if you get to an imminent collision. I find the lane keep assist to work much better than other cars I’ve used. It does not beep, but provides haptic feedback if you hit lane limits without signaling. Lastly, the US adaptive headlights are neutered due to outdated DOT regs. These can be recoded to function like the ones explained here. The hardware is exactly the same. This is something I need to do. The older drivetrain turbo V6 is slower than the E53 but with a mild tune can reach an easy 400+ hp with a lot more torque than stock. The E450 and E43 are mechanically identical ( except exhaust on the e43) and use more boost than the E400 and the conservative aftermarket tunes have similar boost curves. Mechanically, the E400 seems extremely reliable, I have a well maintained CPO and extended the mb warranty out to 3 years/unlimited miles for about $2,000, but I’m in excess of 90,000 miles with no issues, nothing leaks, no check engine lights, no control arms, really nothing yet.
Reasonable review, however, the E53 is two cars not one and beats any 63 hands down. Firstly it’s furiously fast in any weather, driven properly and will leave the old rear wheel drive cars for dust in any damp conditions. Secondly, the straight six makes it one of the quietest and smoothest coupe’s you will find anywhere, a true limousine “S Class” quality ride, when in comfort mode. You will soon get tired of the engine noise and road rumble in a 63. Trust me. Mercedes have really hit the mark with this one, the new breed of AMG...two cars in one!

When some people first used the touch pads on the steering wheel or the actual car system etc, people complain they don't like it or it isn't this or that or whatever. How can one possibly make a decision on what is "right" after just 1 day when the engineers who design it design it for the owner who will use it every single day for a few years. Living in Québec, where temperatures can drop to -20°C, I experienced numerous issues with my E53 AMG. Most of the electronic components had to be replaced due to their unreliability, including the rear camera, heated seats, instrument cluster, headlamps, and rear window motors. i support that. My favorite in ergonomics is the W212 system with the push pull turn knob and the up-down-left-right arrow buttons on the steering wheel. Mercedes offcourse. They provide the car to reviewers for this kind of long term purpose. It's like leasing a car but with only thing you have to pay for is the fuel. Service, maintenance, insurance is all covered by the company. It's sort of like advertisement for that car by the reviewers.
@Harry Monkfish it's paid but it's actually not, it's kinda both and a bit confusing but let me explain. Mercedes provide car with insurance, maintenance etc covered and reviewer have to only deal with fuel costs. For Mercedes it's (the youtubers video) sort of like an add for their car so it's a publicity. But it is not said as paid promotion as in this case the reviewer (carfection) gets to tell their own honest opinion about the car both good and bad. If it is paid promotion then they (reviewer) can't tell bad aspects but only positives and have to specify that it is infact paid promotion.
@Harry Monkfish yeah it sure is cheap advertising compared to traditional methods and yes one can never trust anyone on internet about any topic. It is dishonest as the company told you to tell good things about their product but becau it's carfection and it's Henry ai sort of trust him even though I know it's not fully the truth.
@The Talentless Mr. Kipling That's interesting I didn't know Mercedes invested money in carwow. I carwow and most things on youtube as entertainment not impartial information providers. I wouldn't base my decision on buying a new car on anything a car program says.
Is that matrix headlight system why I'm being blinded by so many late-model Mercedes lately? If so, that tech doesn't work, from my perspective as oncoming traffic...
Couldn't it be that people don't know how to operate it? (just asking because i remember when i first tried the automatic highbeam low beam switching thingy in my e class years ago, i didn't grasp that it only works while the lightswitch is on "auto", if the lightswitch is on "on" the high-low is "manual mode". So i may have bilnded a few people waiting for the system to switch to low beam. Maybe that's also the case for those who blind you)
The system got better its pretty good now. I have it on Auto and noone ever complains. Except the occasional lorry driver. Somehow it doesnt lower the brightness for them sometimes.
For me the huge digital tv dash is fugly much like the early ipad+chewing gum combo early merc screens had. You can do a good digital dash e.g. Audi but also Ford or even Opel. Completely ruins the interior for me.
Mercedes is one of my favourite brands but sorry the cars have become so boring and have no character its more like gimmicky stuff and eye catching bits but nothing really mature and classy.
senorgato70 how is that delusional mate I have a Merc E350 and bmw 335D owned a few different models before from both makes but I prefer the bmw over the merc for the driving experience and thrill it brings I get Merc is more of a show off these days but driving experience wise its not even close to bmw and I do love both makes honestly.
S M because you’re only comparing certain models. The E350 is the entry level E class. The E43 and now E 53s and the entry AMG models (43s and 53s) across the brand have gotten nothing but superb reviews for driving dynamics. And all the full blown AMGs (63s) are envied 8n the industry. So maybe narrow-minded is a better description of your view as you’re only taking into consideration a very limited experience and outlook. And ill add that your may not understand the Mercedes brand. They are luxury first and always have been. All of their bottom trim models for every car for the brand doesn’t have driving dynamics baked into the experience. Unlike Audi and BMW who put very similar chassis dynamics in their entry level trims, not dissimilar to their upgrade trims. The danger there is that it doesn’t compel a buyer to step up to the upgrade trims if they truly want a sporty experience unlike Mercedes where the buyer would have to set up. Clearly their (Merc’s) strategy works as they have been the top luxury brand globally for now 4 years running.
@@senorgato70 mate no offence but you have no clue about real world driving dynamics and driving experience. Mercs for sure are on par with other brands considering luxury and the styling but when it comes to driving experience even if you talk about full blown amgs compared to M cars or RS cars mercs are not just justified especially when you pay the premium of a porsche having to own a merc. I have had both mercs and bimmers in the past and even now I have both the brands. I was never a bmw fan until I owned one and experienced it. Bimmers are known to be the ultimate driving machines thats just a fact where as mercs you can't push them to see their limits as individual models you mentioned are all about certain taste and class. I love the brand no doubt I'm not taking anything away from merc but if you get to own cars from both merc and bmw and compare them you'll definitely pick bmw. Considering the range in one class bimmers always been really open to choose for customers like with a variety of trims engines and specs where as other brands started doing it not long ago.
I absolutely hate the idea of a car telling me what to do! If I want to reduce the speed, I'll do so! That feature would be enough to stop me buying one. This pointless tech is total crap and just another thing to go wrong and reduce the life span of the car.
If it just shows you the sign it read it's ok. (i have that feature). The problem is that there are so many signs that the chance for a false reading are too big. (in my experience)

Who's responsible for the running cost of the car?
I like the old model rear passenger side pillow less Windows
For me the huge digital tv dash is fugly much like the early ipad+chewing gum combo early merc screens had.
You can do a good digital dash e.g. Audi but also Ford or even Opel.
Completely ruins the interior for me.
🤔 soo the 70's called, they want their sideburns back bro
Oh man, and I just go around in my 2001 Ford Explorer haha
(In mint condition btw)
Living with a car also involves service costs and mpg i guess.
Did he just complain about heavy doors on an expensive car? lol
Rayaan Shaikh especially the fact that it’s a coupe. Luxury coupes have long and heavier doors in general lol
Yeah!! lol
Cars have become laptops
ozmaniac49 hahah those are too expensive
Cabriolet is the best version of this car
"Pit lane limiter " F1 tech always arrives on the road eventually
Car is perfect just the steering wheel is on the wrong side
the only other company i can see Henry Catchpole working for is Apple
How can you review a coupe car without actually sitting at the back and showing how easy it is to sit at the back …
Its an AMG but you dont show us a rev hear/closeup or a tunnel sound? Nice review but you have to understand car enthousiasts love that.
Mercedes is one of my favourite brands but sorry the cars have become so boring and have no character its more like gimmicky stuff and eye catching bits but nothing really mature and classy.
S M lol. Delusional.
senorgato70 how is that delusional mate I have a Merc E350 and bmw 335D owned a few different models before from both makes but I prefer the bmw over the merc for the driving experience and thrill it brings I get Merc is more of a show off these days but driving experience wise its not even close to bmw and I do love both makes honestly.
@@senorgato70 the entry level e class is not e350 its e220 and then the range goes further with different engines and different specs.
10:30 mins and we didnt get your real world MPG?
No exhaust note?
You may aswell had’ve just done a video with a 220D…
Doors are not heavy, you are just weak ;p....
The doors are very heavy, sounds like you haven’t owed the car like we have
I absolutely hate the idea of a car telling me what to do!
Hey
Andy Choo hello😂😂
Hey
How ya DO n?
Never been this early in my life
