I came here in 2024 just to say that the M13 is not dead! I bought one today and I'm looking forward to trying it out! I don't think there are many multi-effects with your proposal yet.
I wouldn't be without my M13. It's everything you will ever need in one box. Tough, robust and rugged. Yes I know those three words all mean the same thing but had mine about three years and worth every penny.
I think it's a good video. I just bought this pedal, I had viewed this demo and others prior to buying. To answer some of the questions, you can change effects settings like tone and effect level on the fly. That's what those buttons do on the top. If you have the unit in autosave mode its just like having actual pedals, it remembers the last settings you tweaked.
This little Brotha' is one of the BEST players around anywhere ... such an extensive knowledge of gear and tones ... I agree with akosiredred ... BEST Product Reviews for LOTS of effects and amps ... keep up the good work Paul ...
This is a fantastic piece of gear. Two years in so far and it has been reliable and sounds great. Certainly there are analog pedals that have a character that it can't reproduce, but when it comes to writing, rehearsing and playing live, it's a very smart box. I used to run 13 pedals live, and trust me, having one of them (or their cables) fail in front of 2000 people is no fun. Try it out! You may feel like we do that it was designed a bit more intelligently than some other all in one units.
And for people watching the video that know only what this video had to say about the M13, there is also a stereo effects loop you can route your existing pedals into. It has allowed me to put some nice OD pedals after volume/wah/comp/pitch/etc. but before my mod/verb/delay/etc, which was a make or break for me. I must say that if nothing else, this is a tremendous experimentation and/or practice tool. Though the M13 has served me very well on many occasions in and out of practice. But I agree
Just bought one of these....VERY versatile! I traded in my M5 for one...I liked the M5 so much I looked at the other pedals (and cables) in my chain and thought "this is getting stupid". I took all my pedals in and wound up with one of these....Kick Ass!
I just got this thing today and even though it's expensive, it's worth every cent! Since I am a beginning guitar player this gives me lots of room to find my "sound."
Thanks Paul, watch your demoes a lot, an expression pedal demo on the way would have been a plus, being the editor of Guitar World , its hard to fathom why you didn't have one ?
I have been a Digitech RP500 guy until I tried this out at my local shop. The RP500 is a good piece of gear. The M13 is a FABULOUS peice off gear! I traded it in on the spot. I am now happy as a pig in _________ (fill in blank)
Paul does a good job at demoing stuff like this. I think this video better illustrates the function of the m13 better than any other video out there. And for the two comments below; Go back to metal shredding in your bedroom.
You don't need to hold down the scene select button to change scenes, you just tap it then select one of the 12 scenes, much quicker and faster than shown in the video!
Merry christmas all. just got this pedal. I have not had time to use it yet but I saw that you can use the four cable methad on this so the compressors and distortions are in the front of the amp and the others in the loop. Sounds like a very cool feature. just wanted to let you know.krelbar.
Used an XTlive through an Egnater Rebel 20.... gigged with it for three years until I went back to using Boss stomp boxes, and an Ibanez TS9, and they kick the arse out of anything i've used by Line 6... Pleased the sounds working out for you though!
If you had to choose only one of these for your Guitar Effect Processors, which would YOU choose? 1: Line 6 M13 2: Line 6 Helix HX,....... orrrrrr.... 3: TC Electronic G Major 2?.....Yes, I'm aware I'd have to purchase a seperate MIDI Controller....Ugggghhh!!!! Basically, which model gives you the most bang for the buck and versitility? I'm REALLY having a hard time deciding between the 3!!!! Great Demo, by the way and thank you for your time, KK
I totally wanna run one of these for effects. I have a Gibson Explorer and Avatar 412 cab (Cestion V30s and 75s) and im saving up for a Soldano Avenger. Now that would be a beast rig
Well, actually, is not to mix a chorus with a flanger, but what about two dist, one as a booster, with comp, pre or post, or have available two dist and two OD and mix them. Yes, I know, stompboxes can do that, but I'm looking for something to "plug and play". Anyway, thanks to point me to the zoom G7, it looks good! The path is not that fixed and can be changed. Now, I have to investigate about three (Thank you so much for complicate my decision! ;) jejeje!)
I use the POD X3 to record direct. The I use the M13 to play live through a '65 Fender Blackface Deluxe Reverb RI. I like the tone of my amp and don't like how the amp/cab/mic modeling changes that. So the M13 is a perfect fit.
@diegojosegonzalez....i dont have a hands on experience withthe hd500 but i do havethe M13. I run it through a fender blues deluxe and couldnt be happier. I get the best of both worlds....great distorted tones AND, what ive always had trouble getting, a GREAT clean sound. For me, this is all i need. Going to get expression pedal soon and play with that. Check it out and compare to the hd500. Good luck
@maunder69 most newer Line 6 amps are basically preset for metalish type of playing. normally dont need a distortion pedal with it unless you just want an even heavier sound.
@eltiogamboin erm, the whole point of a pure tube amp, is to get the purest sound, the reason it sounds pleasing to you in this demo, is because it sounds how it should sound... There's no point buying any pedals unless you've got a decent sounding valve amp anyway! You don't have to spend anything like a grand to get hold of a perfectly good valve amp
I have the m13. People keep saying the distortion suck.. Well the overdrives like tube drive, and tube screamer don't suck. Also the overdrive model doesn't suck. I am using a vox ac4tv and a usa strat so it may be making a difference. If you put a line6 m13 on a solid state amp and cheap guitar is like putting ice cream on top of barf!
This is probably a pretty stupid question, but is this an amp or something you connect your amp to, and in your own opinion is this something a metal guitarist would benefit greatly from?
I belive the 4 cable method allows you to use your amps preamp...I'm I don't know how you can split the distortions and comps from the delays and choruses..etc. unless there are two separate outputs/inputs in the pedal.
I wish they focused the camera more on the fx than his guitar while he was playing...wasn't he demoing the pedal?Still he's good, of course, he wouldn't be the editor if he wasn't right? Love the Pedal!;)
@slash646 This isn't a modeler in the typical line6 sense. I'm with you. I had a pod, etc, and it just never really cut up. But, that was mostly due to the amp/cab processing. Since this has none, it's simply effects which have always been good. If you're looking to get a fender sound, buy a fender. because this will only give you 'your amp here'' + chorus/etc.
depends on what do you want, if don't have a great amp, and you want to record like pros, buy pod x3. if you want a lot of stompboxes for your great amp buy the m13
I've heard this pedal a few times live... Can you say "No thump?" Sounds so flat and no punch.. very digital sounding. Don't get me wrong.. It has some really cool sounds.. but I can't get the same punch I get out of stompboxes with it.
I just watched this M13 Guitar World product demonstration Video. So...this video states up to 12 Scene Effect Combinations can be saved. However, I walked away being very unclear about how to switch between saved "scenes". I didn't think that was well explained at all which is odd to me. I would have explained that. Also, see masking tape labels in a product demo video is weird. Does a roll of off-white masking tape come with your purchase? haha!
@maunder69 it is a pedalboard that you connect to your amp, and I would say that it is suitable for a metal guitarist. I do not have it though, but i play metal and have a lot of Line 6 stuff, and since they have put all their stompboxes into to this pedalboard, i would be disappointed if the "metal" and "insane" modes weren't there. :D
@gangtwanger thanks man...i have been using analog effects. and i have a not so huge pedalboard.about ten analog pedals and i wanted to have more and i dont want to bring all those analog pedals on small venues gig.so thats why i asked for a good multi effects pedal.i have tried a lot of them and i have to agree, all the dirt pedals that comes with the multi effetcs are not so good.i was wondering if i can just get two or three analog pedals and put it into the loop on the M13 .
I have a hard tubes Dakus Kruk wave 22 Tripple artery and it grinds and binds It does not have a grumble chop switch witch I think is the only fall down but I've had it for 11 years and I've been thinking about selling it .. It will possibly be for sale on ???
is there another playing mode beside the scene mode, something like a patch mode ie: by stomping one button you turn on or off several fxs? (phaser+overdrive+reverb) with one button, thanks
@eltiogamboin I don't think they're using an amp. I know he's saying amp, but I don't think they would use an amp on a demo for this thing. I'm pretty sure he's running straight into a mixer.
ok i have 2 questions. 1. can i change each button? i mean the guy right there set the first button wah. can i change wah's button and make it overdrive or something? 2. can i use the m13 pedal WITH other pedals? i mean my gear was so far mxr pedals. is it can i use this pedal with the mxr pedals? thanks
it does have amp models on it its based off of all of the line 6 stomp boxes including the distortion which has amp models so it does have amp models this pedal is better than the boss in my opinion....
Which units can come close to delivering the same options? I'm looking for something as flexible as this (you know, four OD at the same time, or four delays) and found nothing. All ME that I saw have a fix effects chain that is not possible to change, or allow only one type of effect at the time (one OD/DI, one mod, one delay....). I heard that nova system has better sounds, but is not as flexible a this (fixed effects chain)
Looks a fanatastic Unit... Iss it good for really big walls of sounds like heavy delays Sortaa Thing??? i was gonna get the space echo but this looks good enough for everythin:) So yess good for shoegazee???? cheers!!
yeah man i hear you, this weekend im gonna buy the boss ME-70, my mates dad has the me-50 and iv seen so many video's to do with both. of course im going to try before i buy but from what iv seen its everything that ill need for a verrrryyyy long time. this how ever :/ exactly the same expet with an extra stomp switch and no wah pedal
i have one. i like it. it sounds good. it has effects. i use a fender twin reverb. i use an american standard strat. it sounds good. yes. it does. it sounds good. great pedal. if u tweak it it doesnt matter what amp u use. u can make it sound good. line 6 is good. good pedal. sounds good. i have one. its pretty good.

This is the best demo of the M13 on youtube!!
This, by far, is the best review i've seen on youtube.
Just picked up one of these used for $249 and I'm in love.. I've been playing so long today I can barely move my hand!
I have a used one on layaway and can't wait to get it!!!
I think it's a good video. I just bought this pedal, I had viewed this demo and others prior to buying. Paul thanks man, indeed the best review of the M13. Much respect. keep rocking

I was wondering the same thing, as well as wishing the camera showed more of the unit and less of his playing. :)
Any possibility of getting the exact settings you used for each effect?
Classic distortion model screams through a tube amp. m13 only thing I use now live. Consistent tone.
I have been a Digitech RP500 guy until I tried this out at my local shop. The RP500 is a good piece of gear. The M13 is a FABULOUS peice off gear! I traded it in on the spot. I am now happy as a pig in _________ (fill in blank)

This guy makes everything sound sooooo gooooood
You don't need to hold down the scene select button to change scenes, you just tap it then select one of the 12 scenes, much quicker and faster than shown in the video!
It's too large for only 4 active effects.
You can fit your foot in that small of a gap if they added more, so there's no point
Merry christmas all. just got this pedal. I have not had time to use it yet but I saw that you can use the four cable methad on this so the compressors and distortions are in the front of the amp and the others in the loop.
Sounds like a very cool feature. just wanted to let you know.krelbar.
I wasn't blown away by the pedal but it does seem sweet. what I really liked about this vid was the bit he played at 5:57 lol
Just a great review, Awesome job! Thank you.
Mr. Cameraman he is demonstrating the box not the guitar.
Great pedle bord😎

Helix. All the way, every day :)
I totally wanna run one of these for effects. I have a Gibson Explorer and Avatar 412 cab (Cestion V30s and 75s) and im saving up for a Soldano Avenger. Now that would be a beast rig
No doubt, the m13
it has pretty much everything you need
it's obvious due pod x3 it's meant for recording and fully modelling your guitar signal.
m13 it's just several line 6 stompboxes together
Makes it extremely clear what the unit does and how it works. Some more demos of the sounds would have been nice however.
Well, actually, is not to mix a chorus with a flanger, but what about two dist, one as a booster, with comp, pre or post, or have available two dist and two OD and mix them. Yes, I know, stompboxes can do that, but I'm looking for something to "plug and play".

@gangtwanger Hey, you said stay away from the Carbon Copy delay? Or were you just talking about these line 6 modlers? Thanks
@maunder69 most newer Line 6 amps are basically preset for metalish type of playing. normally dont need a distortion pedal with it unless you just want an even heavier sound.
for the songs, you could tell that the first song effect was the police- message in a bottle, and the second led zeppelin- heartbreaker
it's a perfect pedalboard for u2-sounds.
on the new album ( No line on the horizon) the Edge uses this pedal!
Not a very informing video, I can't see how he's operating the M13 because the camera is on the guitar.
I have the m13. People keep saying the distortion suck.. Well the overdrives like tube drive, and tube screamer don't suck. Also the overdrive model doesn't suck. I am using a vox ac4tv and a usa strat so it may be making a difference. If you put a line6 m13 on a solid state amp and cheap guitar is like putting ice cream on top of barf!
nothing beats interchangable pedals on a board.
Paul Rocks
best lesson yet

The Hot Rod Avenger does have an effects loop.

@cornjuicy No, its actually really easy and intuitive to use. He makes it sound a bit confusing though.

POD HD 500 or This??? (To play live)
I wish you could use all the effects at once......... That would be interesting !!!!!
@tdrider2008 nope. it is 100% an epiphone LP custom. I owned that same guitar in high school.
do you use gearbox with it? im thinking about getting an x3 live.
@Sirjaydus I believe you have to use a midi switch for that
@zsness it's an epiphone les paul custom
6 to 8 blocks with dedicated lcd & knobs and the overall unit would be the same size or smaller and more intuitive.
I have a hard tubes Dakus Kruk wave 22
Tripple artery and it grinds and binds
It does not have a grumble chop switch witch I think is the only fall down but I've had it for 11 years and I've been thinking about selling it .. It will possibly be for sale on ???
meshuggah used/uses the Vetta amps which have the EXACT same models (vetta amp has more options though and is also alot more expensive)
do we mess with the amp settings? or how can you go from clean to distortion with the click of a button for the pedal...
which is the best multi effects to buy for xmas? line 6 m13, digitech rp1000 or the floor pods?
is their any kind of adapter that could plug the m13 or anything with the same output jack straight into a cabinet, without needing a head?
@CMSpida Hey, thanks. I got more from your paragraph than I did from our friend from GW in his entire video. I will have to give it a try.
Martin Mcfly!!!
It was Marty McFly...And this video has absolutely nothing in common...
Mardty Beerhouse He does kind of look like him though
He should have brought the cherry ES 335 back to the future with him. Bif would have.
is there another playing mode beside the scene mode, something like a patch mode ie: by stomping one button you turn on or off several fxs? (phaser+overdrive+reverb) with one button, thanks
I didn't know Paul could actually play guitar!
and if you get the update from Line 6, the M13 will have over 100 effects.
@eltiogamboin I don't think they're using an amp. I know he's saying amp, but I don't think they would use an amp on a demo for this thing. I'm pretty sure he's running straight into a mixer.
Can you use the looper while all 4 effects are on?
do those funky tapings come standard?
ok i have 2 questions. 1. can i change each button? i mean the guy right there set the first button wah. can i change wah's button and make it overdrive or something? 2. can i use the m13 pedal WITH other pedals? i mean my gear was so far mxr pedals. is it can i use this pedal with the mxr pedals? thanks
Paul rules!
what is paul's delay setting here? i wanna know
it does have amp models on it its based off of all of the line 6 stomp boxes including the distortion which has amp models so it does have amp models this pedal is better than the boss in my opinion....

I heard that nova system has better sounds, but is not as flexible a this (fixed effects chain)
It has a metal housing and is very solid(but heavy)
question: if I have a separate crybaby wah, can I make a fade in effect?
Can you engage multi effects simultaneously without tap dancing on the unit?
Looks a fanatastic Unit...
Iss it good for really big walls of sounds like heavy delays Sortaa Thing??? i was gonna get the space echo but this looks good enough for everythin:) So yess good for shoegazee???? cheers!!
Marty!! You're fly's Open!!! Run for it marty!!!
yeah man i hear you, this weekend im gonna buy the boss ME-70, my mates dad has the me-50 and iv seen so many video's to do with both. of course im going to try before i buy but from what iv seen its everything that ill need for a verrrryyyy long time. this how ever :/ exactly the same expet with an extra stomp switch and no wah pedal
hi,
can i use a "send output" like a "b output" to put in signal in a different chromatic tuner?
Thanks
I love mine.
i have one. i like it. it sounds good. it has effects. i use a fender twin reverb. i use an american standard strat. it sounds good. yes. it does. it sounds good. great pedal. if u tweak it it doesnt matter what amp u use. u can make it sound good. line 6 is good. good pedal. sounds good. i have one. its pretty good.
can you use the M13 with a POD HD model? and if so how can you hook the too up together (keep in mind all i have is an amp and guitar and HD400) i wanna use the M13 for extra effects..how do i hook it up or can i??
what amp were you using?
what is the model of the guitar??
can i connect other pedals in a daisy chain kinda thing.....
How did you add a solo setting?
this? or the pod x3 live?
Guys, I'm getting a bugera 333xl and I'm looking for a multi effects unit also. This M13 seems just right for what I wish (only multi effects) but does the gt100 / pod500 would do any better? Thanks...
So only 4 effects at once? No thanks.
whats the guitars model?
is matt bellamy use this too?
