It’s great to see newer videos on the 13 year old beast of a piece of gear. I absolutely love mine and have never considered getting rid of it. It pairs nicely with my Roadster Combo.
I’m glad it helped! Thank you for checking this video out. If you have anything you would like me to demo over the m13, just ask and I’ll try to cover it for you!
@@frusciantegeartone it would be helpful if you could discuss/demo the fx loop option, 4 cable method, pros/cons of using the fx loop with separate drive pedals, etc. that’s a lot to ask, but just giving some ideas! Thanks
@@kevind3094 well I can tell you right now the fx loop is cool. My only problem is all the cables (4 cable method). I ended up loving how it sounds into the front of the amp. BUT if you like the clean delays/reverbs not being affected by your distortion, you’ll love it. It does the job. When I did the 4CM, I did use external drives/distortions the way the manual says to. But again, so much trouble, I ended up loving my sound from guitar-distortions-wah-m13-amp. It’s just like if I had real pedals as far as series of pedal placement. Only weird configuration I use is an always on compressor at the end of my chain now. But yea I do need to discuss these things. Maybe a video for each topic to keep things from getting boring! 😂
@@frusciantegeartone Thanks for the details! Currently I am just running mine similar to how you have yours and sounds good to my ear. Just wanted to make sure I am not missing out on some magic configuration. Thanks!
@@kevind3094 you’re welcome. I will say this. You could just use the m13 by itself. The drives/distortions/fuzz are just as good as real pedals. Except for they are noisy compared to real pedals. It’s not a huge issue because you can use the m13’s internal gate. I used this at a church for a few years. Then I wanted to used more effects while saving the m13’s real estate. You could try just using different pages (12 of them), and setting up your drives in each page for different songs, instead of using 1 page to do everything (like I attempted). Coolest thing is you can run distortions before and after delay and reverbs for cool swells and ambient stuff. That’s where the m13 shines. Along with the awesome modulation sounds. Biggest weakness is actual the wah. You have to press the wah effect then move your foot on external expression pedal, instead of. Real wah just stepping on it and you’re already there.
@@frusciantegeartone i still wish i will have m13. It's funny but when i see a modern multi fx like Helix or something i just don't get any sense. When i saw M13 announcement it was a instant GAS!
@@bloodromance4776 I prefer the m13 because while the helix or hx stomp may have amp simulations, I like my amp & also my actual drive/wah/compression pedals. I think many people with the helix or hx stomp still like to use real pedals in combination. So if we are going to combine multi effects with single effects, the m13 wins because it has 12 effects to use on the fly. Also switching scenes is really quick and you have multiple scenes. It’s almost limitless. The effects themselves sound great, even better than big name brands. My board is more simple, WITH MORE OPTIONS! 😁😁😁 M13 for the Win! 😂
Good catch! John’s part is so close to hey Joe that I just played that instead, since I don’t know John’s part yet 😂. It’s literally the same but John adds a little different riff at the end of the phrase. 🙏
I still have my m13...did the foot switch mods and all..didnt get to doing the expression mod. i think its a fantastic unit when paired with a modern amp modeller and connected via the 4 cable method thru the send return.
@@frusciantegeartone yep....i had made crude instruction videos of how to do it and posted them to the facebook group on the Line6 M13...but i deleted that account...i think i may have downloaded all the media to some hard disk..will have to search for them. @@frusciantegeartone Agreed. That was the biggest gripe of the unit. another issue i found is that the Mission engineering Exp pedal that i use has some kind of issue...the settings dont stay or fluctuate...need to open up my ME pedal and figure it out...i know that it needs a 10K pot....maybe fitting in a DC filter before the input will help.
@@ssdravidian I had a similar issue. My expression pedal works fine but the tracking on the m13 is faulty. For example using a -12 or +12 octave with external expression pedal, it’s hard to set the value on the m13, but even after setting values, the expression pedal goes past 12 or below 12 so the whammy function isn’t precise. Using the wah with ext exp pedal works fine though. Just the octave seems off a bit.
The octave sounds ok but isn’t polyphonic. It has trouble with chords but single notes, it’s just fine. If I were to play a gig, I would have to have a polyphonic octave pedal. This does fine for jamming at home.
My setup is drives first, then wh10 wah, delay, m13, then a compressor (always on, turned volume and compression all the way up, with eq halfway), then into the lead channel of my amp. My gain on my amp is very low, but you were probably hearing a mix of the compressor and the edge of breakup amp. I wasn’t using any dirt pedals in this video. Hope this helps!
Well it has different compressors built in, along with a gate that can be set at all times, so you can really crank the gain up on the distortions. I personally like the distortions, you just have to spend more time dialing them in since they have sensitive parameters. The reason I use external distortion/wah/compression is to save space for effects. I used to use the m13 by itself, no problems.

If you zoom in at 1:29 you can see them.

Manuel 60%
Mix 70%

Hi. Did you had the M13 coming out of an amp? I heard a drive in there. Thanks

My gain on my amp is very low, but you were probably hearing a mix of the compressor and the edge of breakup amp.

You conect to input of amp or a effects loop?
Is it suitable for djent and polyphia style tones
Well it has different compressors built in, along with a gate that can be set at all times, so you can really crank the gain up on the distortions. I personally like the distortions, you just have to spend more time dialing them in since they have sensitive parameters.
The reason I use external distortion/wah/compression is to save space for effects.
I used to use the m13 by itself, no problems.
The hx stomp can pretty much do everything the m13 does and more in a smaller package.
For sure!
is there a preset/patch for all this stuff?
No and I just sold the m13. About to order a helix! I will be making an available download preset of some sort with that!
