And it doesn’t make any sense that it wasn’t here because it is literally the only game out of the five in MM2 to actually HAVE enemy stacking its base game.
As mentioned in the video, a very annoying thing in Super Mario 3D world is that tracks aren't available, which is basically one of the fundamental part of complex contraptions, an even more annoying thing also mentioned in the video is that it works PROPERLY even using a glitch that can put items from the other 4 style in 3D world. Usually, the excuse that Nintendo use is that said non implemented items aren't in the base game, and so I bring up the most frustrating thing is that TRACKS ARE IN THE MAIN GAME OF 3D WORLD! There is literally no reason not to implement it, it works properly and it's in the original game, I really don't know why.
At this point, I think that the reason Nintendo separated the 3D world style from the others is because they couldn't be bothered to make new graphic designs with some of the items like tracks for the 3D world style . Using the glitch just serves as proof that the functions are there for stuff such as tracks, stacking and many other things from the 4 main styles work perfectly despite so It couldn't have been anything technical. I guess making new graphics, particularly for already existing Items in the main 4 styles for the 3D world style, was just too much of an effort for them to actually have to attempt.
Actually, I'm pretty sure alot of the smuggled course parts are functional because their default behavior from the main game styles is just called upon when used in 3d world which makes things even worse cause that means most of the programming was handed to them on a silver platter anyways before they even developed the 3d world style. Tracks in particular might be missing because they couldn't think of a way to make items on them look good when going through blocks which is stupid on its own, but makes even less sense since winged mushrooms travel though blocks by moving in the foreground, just like items on tracks in the other styles. Really they just had the wrong priorities as with the semisolids and other parts, they might have been too focused on making their visuals look good in the 2.5D perspective which after enough time makes them give up on an item altogether, whereas other features like night mode they just didn't want to bother making visuals for, and stacks I literally have no idea as they are already animated bc they are literally enemies on top of each other, and the programming was already there. In general the developers had the wrong priorities when making SMM2 as a whole, for example, they made several buttons basically unused to accommodate 2 player building and they for some reason didn't want it to have different controls from one player building plus very few people actually use that mode anyways. They didn't want various things to have context specific exceptions as a way to keep things simple, but in the end they just made things more complicated instead.
3D World can be a fun bonus mode but honestly the game would have been better if the resources for it were allocated to improving other styles/game overall.
Thank you so much for addressing the semi-solids, so little people talk about them when discussing 3D World when honestly little has pissed me off more in the 3D World style then the semi-solids as they’re just unbelievably clunky and awkward to work with. Not to mention the fact that there’s only one variant per style + the absence of vines makes the amount of decorative options in the style super limited. I guess there’s trees but those are so big and so awkward to use as well. Thankfully the style at least looks really nice and the shading and animations for everything are pleasing, but god is the amount of stuff you can do visually to enhance 3D World levels limited.
A few smaller things you missed are: -Fire Bars, they are in 3D world, but not the 3D world style. -No ground decorations like flowers, bushes, statues, etc. -Starting ground and goal ground cannot be 1 tile tall. -The ugly base that Bill Blasters have when they are taller than 2 tiles.
The fact that most items work from 3D World items in the other styles, and the other styles item in the 3D World style by glitching them in is absolutely frustrating.
And what about how the Fire Bro and Porcupuffer, enemies that debuted in Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World respectively and both reappeared in New Super Mario Bros. U aren't available outside of the Super Mario 3D World style? They would work even better in those styles considering that they originated there. For the Fire Bro, they would only need to recolour a Hammer Bro red and make it shoot fire balls (which already have existing sprites in those styles). For the Porcupuffer, they could just use the Boss Bass as a base for the Super Mario Bros. 3 style leaving most of the original work to the Super Mario Bros. style's version .

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, the game Fury Bowser debuted in, released a year after Super Mario Maker 2's final major update, and Prince Bully wouldn't really work if you took his battles from Super Mario 3D World into account. The only way he can take damage is by going through a Clear Pipe which wouldn't be as easy to create an arena for in 2D. If they made him be defeated by being knocked off of a platform, he would pretty much be a metal version of Chief Chilly from Super Mario 64 DS that can breathe fire. I could say Boss Brolder would work, but his battle would be a bit too boring in 2D.

For me it’s just so underwhelming. There aren’t nearly as many options in it as the other gamemodes in addition to the fact that it’s not compatible with them. Also the bosses SUCK in 3D World and there is such a small selection of them.
One minor thing that irks me about 3DW is that if a bomb is inside of a dotted-line block and then you hit a switch to make that block solid, the bomb just dies without exploding. It makes it harder and slower to have contraptions that use bomb explosions because you have to drop a bullet bull launcher on them instead. And there’s no equivalent to a muncher either which means that bullet bull launchers have to be a taller substitute (and they use up a lot of vertical space!)
"QUICK!, we need a big new thing for this game!" "UHHHH, 3D WORLD" "ALRIGHT GET PROGRAMMING" "SIR, WE DONT HAVE ENOUGH TIME!" "WE GOTTA GET SALES NOT TIME!"
My BIGGEST complaint easily is the lack of track items. I do quite a bit of technical stuff with some of my levels. It’s really hard to actually do technical stuff in 3D world.
I think the biggest problem with 3D world is that a majority of its parts are so niche and can't be utilized beyond their intended purpose. For instance, the Koopa car is painstakingly useless outside of racing levels ( -and even then the controls are too janky and awkward to justify its use- ). We can't swap out the Koopa for a different enemy, boss or item AND we don't even have the option to just put down an empty car, which is frankly insane. Most (if not all) 3D World exclusions have no justifiable reasoning behind them which honestly makes me feel that Nintendo wanted 3D World to be different for the sake of being different.
There is a super amazing feature in 3d world. You can kill the player for having a key. This can be used to make pacifist and save the enemies levels, and it could make for some precise platforming too. Also, there are don’t jump detectors.
i loved using the hats and thwomps in the 3d world style. there was a lot of weird limits and stuff i didnt care for but flat thwomps, the propeller and bullet caps are some of my favourite items added to the game
*TL;DR* Mario Maker 2 should've had more updates One problem I have with Mario Maker 2 as a whole is that they stopped the updates too early. There was still SO much potential for MM2, but they end the game after like only 2 major updates or something. And for what? To make Mario Maker 3? Why not just add all of that stuff in Mario Maker 2? If 3 was going to stand out as it's own game, it will have to do something RADICALLY different from what is already possible in Mario Maker 2, otherwise, it might as well just be DLC for 2. Adding some new elements and pieces is not going to make MM3 hold itself up. Oh yeah, and the Porcupuffer and Fire Bro being exclusive to 3D World is really stupid too
It really is tragic. But really mario maker 3 would be a blessing. I'm mostly concerned they just won't make a 3rd game judging from how fast they dropped support here.
I love that the final boss music from Super Mario Galaxy was played to express your anger towards Nintendo for them not adding the tracks while some players were able to glitch it into the game style.
Happy New Year to you. My biggest problems with 3D World are the lack of semisolid options and the fact that clear pipes can't be connected to each other so we could make a section similar to the one in the first level of World 6 of 3D World.
8:32 the most annoying thing about that is that Nintendo already made a texture for the tracks in the main 3D World game in the level Switchboard Falls
The jump at 4:32 is extremely cool. It's so Nintendo of Nintendo to make climbable walls exclusive to 3DW even though they originated from SMW & are most famous for being in SMW. It's also classically Nintendo that they made porcupuffers exclusive to 3DW & didn't at least put boss bass in SMB3.
1:14 I'm 96% certain Super Mario Bros 2. was going to be a nee Extra Game Style, but when sales didn't match their expectations they prefered just making it a power-up
Im SO glad they added on-off blocks into 3d world after a short while. If that didnt happen that would 100% be the worst thing about the 3d world style
Another thing relating to your Smash nitpick video: As of update 8.1.0, which added the "Small Battlefield" stage, the three Battlefields and Final Destination let you play EVERY song in the game.
I remember I saw a photo that showed 3d world enemies if they were in the 3 older Styles (minus Mario u) and that was made by one fan, imagine what a whole team Could do
5:41 I'm pretty sure your control sticks were drifting. That made me have to give up Super Mario Maker 2 temporarily when it happened to my Pro Controller.
Just want to point out that Odyssey promised at 0:45 to make a video ranking every odyssey moon if he reaches 100K subs by the end of the year. It's 2022 now, so he has an entire year to reach his goal and make that ranking!
Honestly I feel like SMM2 should've been released in 2020 instead of 2019. Not only would it have been given more time to have all the features of the updates and more in the release version and more time could've been allocated to fix the currently existing problems with the game, but it would've very nicely coincided with both Mario's 35th Anniversary and Super Mario 3D World's announcement for Switch. We could've even gotten an update with Bowser's Fury elements, that would've been so cool.
While not related to this video, I sincerely hope you one day get to make the ranking all moons in Mario Odyssey as that is exactly the kind of video I'd watch :P
The fact that it should be easy to program a prince bully since nintendo can just edit the bully texture and place the program of fire piranha plants into it
While am working on make a super world and making levels for Super Mario 2D World using this style, after recently getting and playing Super Mario 3D World+ Bowser's Fury, the style really lacks alot of things. There isn't nearly enough background styles. We could've had more sky level themes but instead we just get circus. And making sky levels with this circus theme feels out of place. A problem with Mario Maker is there just isn't enough level backgrounds in the game compared to the games they come from. Super Mario 3D World has so many environments that Mario Maker 2 only gives a fraction of it. Atleast with the other styles we can have sky levels in the clouds but in 3D World its a Circus theme making it out of place. Also the lack of semi solid varients makes it inconsistent and hard to work with. While 3D World is a nice game style for being an "Extra Game Style" it should've had more content, not less content than the other 4. The lack of stuff like rails and One way doors speak for them selfs as we wonder why couldn't they be in 3D World. We can't stack enemies in 3D World when in the original game stacked enemies are in the game. There is so many differences between 3D World and all the other styles which makes it not as used as the others due to the limitations and Nintendo refusing to change anything after 3 updates. Also Mario Maker should be a game getting content in the regular with weekly or monthly updates adding styles adding new items , not a game that needs a sequel just to add a few things here and there and then abandon it for other projects. Yes I know thats how nintendo runs most of their games, they release, they update it for bug fixes and then leave it be since they have to work on other projects, but the concept of Mario Maker should be a game getting updated on the regular, not just having 3 updates and then getting abandoned.
I had additional issues with the semi-solids - adding the climbing as a car Mario mechanic meant we didn't get super Mario world climbable fences. Those should have come back instead, maybe with the cat moving faster on them than others, then semi solid could have been added as a separate item to 3d world
3D world could have been so good if Nintendo just went Track/proper semisolids, etc. -> Control + C -> Control + V -> “Lemme quickly fix this bug and make it in 3D world-esque sprite” and DONE. Sure, there’s probably more than that but they wouldn’t even break a sweat doing what they need to, 3D World feels kinda rushed and although I’m glad it offers a completely new style than the other themes, this isn’t a trading center, there is no “I take tracks, you take Meowser.” Smh, Nintendo. Smh my head.
When i made a super world, i wanted to do a boss rush At the end of the super world, but only a Small part of them could fit, If i used 3d world most bosses and enemies arent present to make it all work.
@@notthatntg But what if I want to have on/off switches in the level? On/off switches are a huge part of the game and one of my favorite tools in level-making, and it seems like an arbitrary restriction to make it so that if you want spikes, you need to not have on/off blocks.
@@jerrylumianski7837 plus spike blocks are still 2 by 2 in size, and I think they might count towards the entity limit though I'm not sure about the, also I'm pretty sure spike traps themselves were invented for the first Mario Maker as the main games typically use things like munchers, fuzzies ect for areas of the stage that hurt you, and more often then that they just have a part of the floor be lave or a bottomless pit or even just have a wall and a pipe leading to the next area.

*TL;DR* Mario Maker 2 should've had more updates
One problem I have with Mario Maker 2 as a whole is that they stopped the updates too early.
I know it would have been hard to code but it would have been cool if in this mode you actualy created 3D Levels
You'll have to wait until Super Mario 3D Maker.
came here to say this
Game Builder Garage
In my opinion, the only 2 themes the chain linked fence semi solids fit in are the underground and castle themes.
The worst part of 3D world is how Fire Bro and Porcupuffer are exclusive to it
The jump at 4:32 is extremely cool.
It's so Nintendo of Nintendo to make climbable walls exclusive to 3DW even though they originated from SMW & are most famous for being in SMW. It's also classically Nintendo that they made porcupuffers exclusive to 3DW & didn't at least put boss bass in SMB3.
Somebody: The track block is a good replacement for the tracks in 3D World.
Odyssey Central wants to know:
Your current location
"You'll have to start all over again"
Undo dog: Am I a joke to you?
1:14 I'm 96% certain Super Mario Bros 2. was going to be a nee Extra Game Style, but when sales didn't match their expectations they prefered just making it a power-up
3D World: *has goomba towers*
Mario Maker 2’s 3D World Game Style: *has no enemy stacking*
Fun fact: enemy stacking originated in 3D world, yet we're not allowed to stack enemies in the 3D world style
Im SO glad they added on-off blocks into 3d world after a short while. If that didnt happen that would 100% be the worst thing about the 3d world style
I got an alternate costume Smash nitpick: The Dark Link alt is player 8's color for regular Link and Young Link, but player 6's for Toon Link. Why?
Another thing relating to your Smash nitpick video: As of update 8.1.0, which added the "Small Battlefield" stage, the three Battlefields and Final Destination let you play EVERY song in the game.
I remember I saw a photo that showed 3d world enemies if they were in the 3 older Styles (minus Mario u) and that was made by one fan, imagine what a whole team Could do
10:19 The real reason why the 3D World style is mid 🐑
5:41 I'm pretty sure your control sticks were drifting. That made me have to give up Super Mario Maker 2 temporarily when it happened to my Pro Controller.
Just want to point out that Odyssey promised at 0:45 to make a video ranking every odyssey moon if he reaches 100K subs by the end of the year. It's 2022 now, so he has an entire year to reach his goal and make that ranking!
Blue shell, hammer suit, ice flower, nintendo surely is saving up some cool stuff for a future entry for sure
4:11 is unironically the best line in this video
While not related to this video, I sincerely hope you one day get to make the ranking all moons in Mario Odyssey as that is exactly the kind of video I'd watch :P
The fact that it should be easy to program a prince bully since nintendo can just edit the bully texture and place the program of fire piranha plants into it
OBJECTION. Twisters can literally hold Meowser without him jumping of screen!
happy new year odyssey sorry about you not hitting 100k but at least you're at 84k
Maybe in addition to the tracks they could add in the arrow platforms that go in whichever direction you stand. Anybody with me?
Are you talking about the switchboard things from the level "Switchboard Falls"?
👍
5:47 mmmm joy con drift. Gotta love it
I would have loved a yoshis Island and mario galaxy in extra game styles
Happy 2022, and a great video to start off the year!
I’ve only made one 3D world level and it’s a joke level that’s only in that theme cus I needed the bell for one decoration piece
Imagine if the 3d world levels had invented everything missing in this style, and invented a bunch of the new items backported into the older styles.
8:42 I like that transition there lol
I remember having a dream where there was a new actually good update with many new bosses and Super Mario Bros 2 game style which I have always wanted
Happy new year Odyssey Central!
Semisolids: GASP, HELP I CAN’T BREATHE, oh, thanks for the air man.
I struggle so much with 3D world to come up with something creative, this is why I prefer Mario U is my favourite game style
I had additional issues with the semi-solids - adding the climbing as a car Mario mechanic meant we didn't get super Mario world climbable fences. Those should have come back instead, maybe with the cat moving faster on them than others, then semi solid could have been added as a separate item to 3d world
3:41 I agree, I think hisstocrat, bross brolder and King Ka-thunk (ka-thunk would be a Background boss) should also be in the boss selection too.
Monty Mole did appear in 3D Land though. They could've added that one in the 3D World style.
Did you get Rocky Wrenches confused with Monty Moles?
shellmets: do not exist
oddysey: no shellmet = no timer
spikeballs: am i a joke to you
It’s so irritating how many limitations there are. Many times I’ll go to make a contraption just to find the parts arent there
No matter what I still love SMM2 but yeah they should've implemented it better
IT'S 2022!!!!!!!!
You said that the tracks can be glitched in 3D World but a guy named Psycrow made once a glitch level with night time effects in 3D World
i wanted tracks in 3d world so much i had a dream it was added in their and when i woke up i was so sad
Bro the sound effects in this are absolutely killing me 😆
Happy New Years Odyssey! 🥳
When i first heard that this style was in the game, i thought you would be able to make 3d levels. (i didn't watch trailers or have the game)
3D world could have been so good if Nintendo just went Track/proper semisolids, etc. -> Control + C -> Control + V -> “Lemme quickly fix this bug and make it in 3D world-esque sprite” and DONE. Sure, there’s probably more than that but they wouldn’t even break a sweat doing what they need to, 3D World feels kinda rushed and although I’m glad it offers a completely new style than the other themes, this isn’t a trading center, there is no “I take tracks, you take Meowser.”
Smh, Nintendo. Smh my head.
10:15 lol what the heck is that level
one thing that is good about 3D world for contraptions is you don't need a gizmo for global ground, cloud blocks work just fine
5:50 do I see joy con drift?
Even worse, pro con drift 😔
I would also mention the lack of munchers, which are very useful in general.
10:19 made me laugh so hard
When i made a super world, i wanted to do a boss rush At the end of the super world, but only a Small part of them could fit, If i used 3d world most bosses and enemies arent present to make it all work.
5:42 Joy Con Drift, been there, buddy.
my biggest problem is that theres no small spike block. all we got was the unnecessarily large and ugly spike blocks that are much worse.
Make an in-depth video about springs, POW-blocks, P switches or ON/OFF blocks.
Don't care which of the 3, i was curious about all of these :)
Spikes. Single spikes that don’t change. Aren’t affected by on/off blocks or a timer. WHY DO THEY NOT HAVE SINGLE SPIKES.
Have them with spikes out and have no on/off switches in the level.
That’s my main problem with 3D world style the bosses because I think every level should have on
I am making a game in 3D world and the game looks great. I really love 3D world because it doesn't late make horrible levels. It makes your level look more traditional.
what about actual spikes that are not controlled by on off blocks
