So I am looking to buy a pair of spectacles. And I am confused between single sided and double sided anti glare glasses. First time on your channel. Here's a subscriber.
That was very informative. I'm currently using the new Transition Xtractive Polarized which I'm pretty happy with. However, I didn't know how even some of the Transition lenses can be further customized. Cheers from Mississauga, Ontario Canada.
Hi Robert, I just want the glasses to wear in low light like in-doors and at night, mostly for aesthetic purpose which can help cover a bit of wrinkles around my eyes. Which options of coating and which tint color would serve the purpose? Thank you.
No. Trying to fit everything into one pair of glasses is never a good idea. You can get photofusion with drivesafe but it's always best to have a separate pair of polarised sunglasses, probably with a mirror coating for really bright conditions.
How to eliminate cracking of coating? I live Australia temperature goes up to 40 deg Celsius. I have multiple of lenses throughout the year but will gave same issue Cracking of coating the shop is getting annoyed at me returning my lenses.
@thespectaclefactory Hi Robert, is it possible to apply flash to clear (un-tinted) prescription lens? And if possible are clear lens flash coatings as reflective as lenses without Anti Reflective coatings? Many thanks.
Lens coatings are great to have but I've been wearing glasses all of my life and came to the conclusion that if you plan on keeping your lenses for a long time you don't want lens coatings because it starts to fade away and making your lenses look foggy and stained But you can remove it with etching cream if you have plastic lenses or Water and alcohol if your lenses are glass.
10:23 interesting to learn that high end sunglasses have AR on the back but not the front. Wonder if Zeiss does the same for heavily tinted prescription lenses?
It can be done. But it's this way for a reason - sunglasses are designed to block out light, whereas an anti reflection coating is designed to transmit light. Hence, you would usually want it on the front of your glasses but not on the front of your sunglasses. Having said that, our flash coatings selectively reflect a certain colour in order to match the frame to the lens.
@@thespectaclefactoryHow is the UV protection on the non-“full mirror” flash coatings? Do the reflections on the front show up on the other side of the lens even if the back is ar coated? AND, does the reflection on non-“full mirror” only reflect lights, or are they reflective enough that people could see (for instance….🙄) your hand reflected in the lens during a card or board game?…
Within the Shamir Trivex Gen S line, in a Reykjavik Rikhard in green & gun color, which colors/tints would look best? Flash coating on the backside? If so, which color?
Is anti glare and anti reflective coating are the same or not! should I apply anti glare and anti reflective coating in both sides or just in inside part for sunglasses! Is dust and water repellent is a coating or natural attributes of polycarbonate lens! Please reply, it will help me a lot
They are kind of the same. Anti-reflection stops reflections off the lens surface, which in turn reduces glare into the eyes. BUT it's important to know that lenses with anti-reflection do not reduce glare from the outer environment, only reflections that would have been caused by the lenses themselves. Polycarbonate doesn't inherently have dust or water repellence. You need a coating for that. I never recommend polycarbonate lenses - see my video about lens materials.

I am still trying to understand, so I am rewatching your videos. I am currently dealing with Rudy Project RX sport amber transition lenses with silver mirror coating AR and it appears that I am having tons of increased glare. Nice explanation of coatings. Is there any type of coating that allows me to wear my glasses in a shower? Or should I go for lens that have no coatings on?

Yes, we can add any prescription and any tint to (almost) any frame. You're right about the residual colour. You might notice the glasses I'm wearing in this video have a colourless anti-reflective coating - which comes from Leica.
I believe in your first question, you are asking if it will devalue the frame if you replace frame with lenses that don’t say Gucci. In some high end frames, some authorized labs can stamp the designer’s logos on you new prescription glasses ! People are shocked when they find out they are rx glasses. Good luck.

@thespectaclefactory Hi, ive just started wearing prescriptions glasses like 1 month ago, after research (mostly your videos cos you kinda have one of those trustworthy faces 😁) I chose zeiss smartlife with duravision silver (platinum is not available in my country😢) however its been a stressful experience, because no matter how careful i am, like only microfiber and zeiss wipes, it still somehow got scratched, its not a big scratch tho, just something that can only be seen if you put flashlight on it. It bothers me somehow, I ended up religiously just using water (sometimes with very basic dish soap, just distilled water with surfactant, nothing else) and air duster so nothing will touch the lens. But this got me curious, is (soft)scratches a normal thing when wearing a glasses?or is duravision silver just not worth the money anti scratch wise? Would love to see your take on this, thanks 😊
Just curious some folks claim is wiser don't have coating on lens as in future no need to worry what coating wear off ( which is naturally will wear off in one or two years times due to daily usage ) Next once coating wear off , when see things will have " cloudy glare around ". They claim they rather see " scratch mark " if happen appear than " cloudy glare " this is why they opt out coating. Some folks even claim , coating is actually useless come people work a lot in front computer. They claim , even with out coating on the lens , they can work in front of the computer without getting headache etc ....Whereas some claim , is good to have a coating even on Normal lens. Kinda is up to individuals ??
Thank you for this great video. I’m very interested in having a Zeiss progressive lenses with some of the coatings you have mentioned. Can you please let me know the coatings of the Cartier glasses? Please let me know if am I right: 1- Amber flash coating (on the back of the lenses). 2- Smartlife blueguard. 3- Photofusion ( sapphire). Thank you very much. Regards Miguel.
Thank you for your kind response. I just want to confirm we are referring to the same glasses. I just watch your video again, and I understood the black Cartier glasses has an special treatment for avoiding the blue light. Can you please confirm the coatings of these glasses? Thank you very much.
Yes, they have Blue and Beyond, which is what I described if you were trying to recreate it with Zeiss lenses (which would be the closest IMO. You could also go for Hoya Sensity Dark Grey with Blue Control for the same effect
Hi! Thank you for your great content. How do these flash coatings look like in indoor/outdoor pictures, and also in videoconferencing? In my case I'm a bit concerned that my eyes would not be fully visible in video calls for example, but I do like the benefits of flash coatings. FYI, I'm looking to buy a pair with Zeiss Smartlife Blueguard single vision and Photofusion X, but I'm undecided on the coating for this reason.
I think you're better without a flash coating for video conferencing, although the amber and ruby are both pretty subtle, and I do use both on my video calls.
I was thinking of two frames with trivex lenses one digital progressive, one computer, the computer lenses digital trivex, scratch resistant, blue light blocking, super hydrophobic, anti oil, anti smudge, anti fog, crisper view, very thick, very heavy, coke bottle, no uv protection, no anti reflective, only for looking at my phone, a computer, and a book, The other trivex- digital progressive, uv protection, scratch resistant, anti reflective, anti oil, super hydrophobic, anti smudge, anti fog, crisper view, very thick, very heavy, coke bottle, transition signature 8 Trivex computer highlight blue light, Trivex digital progressive, transition signature 8, both very heavy, very thick, coke bottle, no edge polishing, no shaving down, Any tweaks youd recommend?
Pay the extra money, I get mine done in San Diego, Ca by a guy who does the dye shades by hand then send them off to seal them with coating. Long story short, you get what you pay for, and my glasses look infinite times better than glasses done on the cheap.
Haha it just seemed like a good way to showcase all these types of coatings ;) I'm glad you found the tints interesting. To me, tints are very underutilised but I'm so glad you see the beauty in them
I have an issue with blue light refelction from displays coating, my glasses reflect this blue light from my eyes back onto the glasses so I can see my eyes the entire time :/
Also it's a bit sad anti-reflective coating came about through warfare! Appreciate the explanation of the Cartier blue and beyond technology!! Fantastic content and looking forward to your future videos!!😀
After watching this video , I ordered a pair of non-polarized sunglasses with a blue gradient mirror tint. A few months ago I started wearing a pair of polarized blue full mirrored sunglasses. It is difficult to view the car infotainment system for directions. Immediately went back to wearing my basic grey tint polarized sunglasses as I am able to see the car infotainment system clearly.
You mean non-polarised in the last sentence, right? Did you see my video about polarised lenses? I covered this exact topic: ua-cam.com/video/rw21OE-tKA0/v-deo.html
I'm honestly surprised more car and auto accessory manufacturers don't specify LCDs that have the polarizers oriented so that they can be clearly seen with polarized glasses.
I have never seen anyone that can wear any brand or style frames be it sun glasses or prescription glasses and look great. I could not get away with any Brand or style. how can it be possible?
I had the outmost respect for your opinion till you talked about blue light, which it has been proved to do nothing harmful to the eyes or any of those bad things lens makers are trying to push as fact, more than that it has been proven to switch colour hues and change them so…
@@gerardoarenasss What are we talking about here Blue light or blue filter lenses? From your first comment its clear that you are talking about blue light which is proven to disrupts sleep patterns if absorbed for longer duration that why i said do some research on that. In your reply you are saying to use blue light filter on your phone or laptop which implies that you acknowledge the fact that blue light does put some strain on eyes emitting from screens. Where as in regards of blue blocking lenses there are many different kinds and strengths some blocks fraction of wavelength some block more and some are fake. At the end its up to personal preference some people use filter feature on smartphones and laptops which they find alright and some people find it not working or unpleasant thats why they with refractive errors prefer this feature integrated in their lenses which is more convenient and pleasant.

Brilliant video again 👍
I did! It took ages to edit. Blue and amber is a great combination which I have started to recommend more often recently
Hi, don't you have any Problem with glare from the flash on your glasses? I got mine Photofusion X pioneer and jade Flash last week and the glare from the inside has been bothering me so much. It has become a little bit better, but do I need more time to get used to them? If so how much did it take you tu get used? Did you have any problem yourself with the glare at all?????? Please, your answer would really help me a lot, cause I don't know if I should keep my new glasses at all!!! Please help me with an answer!!!!!
@@enpianisti There is reflectance in the lens as it is a flash coating but I have got used to them and don't have a problem. I have bought many flash coatings and love swapping between them. If you're struggling to get used to them, then maybe contact your optician to see if they can modify the frame and lens positioning to reduce the reflections. Hope this helps!
@@robert15john Thanks a lot!
@@enpianisti did you end up keeping the glasses? is the glare a big problem?
What device is used to test transmittance reflectance and absorption?

Hi, ive just started wearing prescriptions glasses like 1 month ago, after research (mostly your videos cos you kinda have one of those trustworthy faces 😁)
I chose zeiss smartlife with duravision silver (platinum is not available in my country😢) however its been a stressful experience, because no matter how careful i am, like only microfiber and zeiss wipes, it still somehow got scratched, its not a big scratch tho, just something that can only be seen if you put flashlight on it.
Am I crazy for actually liking lenses that have those reflections ?
What is your view on Infrared Sauna facilities given that it can harm your eyes?
What lenses are you using on the beginning of the video? and What coating are you using? It has no reflection :o
They are a special colourless coating. We can make it for you if you like 😃
Thank you for this great video. I’m very interested in having a Zeiss progressive lenses with some of the coatings you have mentioned.
Can you please let me know the coatings of the Cartier glasses?
Please let me know if am I right:
1- Amber flash coating (on the back of the lenses).
2- Smartlife blueguard.
3- Photofusion ( sapphire).
Thank you very much.
Regards
Miguel.
Actually they are PhotoFusion Extra Grey with Sapphire Flash coating. They could be made in any Zeiss Lens type (DriveSafe, SmartLife, ClearView

What Cartier eyeglasses are those ?
I was thinking of two frames with trivex lenses one digital progressive, one computer, the computer lenses digital trivex, scratch resistant, blue light blocking, super hydrophobic, anti oil, anti smudge, anti fog, crisper view, very thick, very heavy, coke bottle, no uv protection, no anti reflective, only for looking at my phone, a computer, and a book,
The other trivex- digital progressive, uv protection, scratch resistant, anti reflective, anti oil, super hydrophobic, anti smudge, anti fog, crisper view, very thick, very heavy, coke bottle, transition signature 8
Trivex computer highlight blue light,
Trivex digital progressive, transition signature 8, both very heavy, very thick, coke bottle, no edge polishing, no shaving down,
Any tweaks youd recommend?
What is the difference between flash coating and tint?
Great content
Appreciate it, thanks
4:15 flash coating- back
Pay the extra money, I get mine done in San Diego, Ca by a guy who does the dye shades by hand then send them off to seal them with coating. Long story short, you get what you pay for, and my glasses look infinite times better than glasses done on the cheap.
great stuff here!
Thank you so much
Beautiful glasses with some interesting customisable tints and some great photographic reminders of how many pairs of glasses you own 😎🤓😎
Haha it just seemed like a good way to showcase all these types of coatings ;) I'm glad you found the tints interesting. To me, tints are very underutilised but I'm so glad you see the beauty in them
I have an issue with blue light refelction from displays coating, my glasses reflect this blue light from my eyes back onto the glasses so I can see my eyes the entire time :/
F A N T A S T I C ! ! ! 💯👍😀

What do you think is the best anti-reflective lens?
AR is a coating, not a lens. There are lots that are great, but maybe Shamir's is the best.
@@thespectaclefactory
Can you get rid of the green with the anti reflecting coating ? If so what’s it called. ?
Also it's a bit sad anti-reflective coating came about through warfare!
Appreciate the explanation of the Cartier blue and beyond technology!!
Fantastic content and looking forward to your future videos!!😀
Thanks Robert, I appreciate it

Is "anti-reflective" the same as "anti-glare"?
Not at all, although opticians often get them mixed up.

amazing
After watching this video , I ordered a pair of non-polarized sunglasses with a blue gradient mirror tint. A few months ago I started wearing a pair of polarized blue full mirrored sunglasses. It is difficult to view the car infotainment system for directions. Immediately went back to wearing my basic grey tint polarized sunglasses as I am able to see the car infotainment system clearly.
You mean non-polarised in the last sentence, right? Did you see my video about polarised lenses? I covered this exact topic: ua-cam.com/video/rw21OE-tKA0/v-deo.html
To my surprise the fully polarized grey lens had no issues viewing the screen.
Yes, I have seen that informative video. Thanks again.
I'm honestly surprised more car and auto accessory manufacturers don't specify LCDs that have the polarizers oriented so that they can be clearly seen with polarized glasses.
Blue flash on gold frames? And comments?
amber better
I have never seen anyone that can wear any brand or style frames be it sun glasses or prescription glasses and look great. I could not get away with any Brand or style. how can it be possible?
I think it's just confidence! 😅
👍
Lol, have you not ever seen people who look like fashion models, or almost so? That's the trick ;).

3 pair or autograph intelligence and the coating keeps failing. Won't be buy them again
They are owned by Essilor now, so it figures
I had the outmost respect for your opinion till you talked about blue light, which it has been proved to do nothing harmful to the eyes or any of those bad things lens makers are trying to push as fact, more than that it has been proven to switch colour hues and change them so…
Was thinking exactly the same!
It does have effects on sleep patterns do some research.
@@shuntxspy done it, no significant improvement to just switch and phones already have filters so…
@@gerardoarenasss
What are we talking about here
Blue light or blue filter lenses?
Blue light still causes eye strain, and phone filters aren't 100% effective
Watched to know more about the “Flash Coating” and thanks; but,
Recommendation for future videos.
Eliminate the echo and crispness of your voice caused by all hard surfaces around you.
Cushions or at minimum hanging towels out of camera view. Also a 1960’s “78rpm” record static is not something we should hear in 2023.
I appreciate the feedback. We're always working to improve the quality, and I hope you'll find recent videos do have better audio
Great example of marketing overkill, as in people have a life/short retention. History has shown 3-5 product bullets is the mainstream killer.
I have said that for years! It should be banned! TRUMP can do THAT
EVERY Lens Coating? I thought you were going to go in-depth discussing various AR coatings. This was just about flashy-looking add-ons. Though you love mirrored lenses, trying to talk to someone who has mirrors instead of eyes is intensely creepy. No thanks, and I wish the trend would die.
