Good info and well explained, not sure if the technology has improved, however years ago anti reflective coatings were very prone to smudging and required frequent cleaning.

Here, in the United States, when I sit down with a sales associate to order glasses it's always so damn frustrating when we get the AR option, because there are to many damn options.
I suffer from serious migraines so AR is a huge plus for me except when it comes to price.
I am always asked which Level of AR I want on my lenses. I'm assuming lenses with the AR integrated into the material has not made its way to podunk America yet because according to the options I'm always given the AR is coated on top of the lens. Depending on where I go to get my glasses, all the stores have their own range of different levels & prices for the AR.
Level 1 AR on the front ONLY
Level 2 AR on BOTH sides
Level 3 EXTRA coating of AR on the front ONLY
Level 4 EXTRA coating of AR on BOTH sides
Level 5 Better quality AR product
Level 6 Even BETTER quality AR product
Level 7 TOP TIER quality AR product
Level 8 TOP TIER quality AR product WITH Blue Light FILTER
Level 9 Triple coating of TOP TIER quality AR product WITH BLF & a complementary case with a cloth to clean your new $500 lenses with.
    Seriously, It's a joke.
Prices always start off at $25 a lens, every where I've been, then skyrocket from there. I've seen places try to charge as much as $150 a lens JUST for adding AR options.
I WILL NOT pay that much but I'm sure there are people who have. It's always about the money. Smh

I’m not sure where you are getting your glasses from but every office I’ve ever worked in me and my fellow opticians asked what the patient is looking to do with their glasses, like are they for reading, every day all day use, only for driving, computer along with their complaints about their current glasses and offer what would work best to meet those needs and prevent the issues the patient is having with their glasses.
My suggestion is next time stop the optician and tell them the issues you are having and what you are going to be using your glasses for and what THEY suggest. If the person can’t do that walk out! That person is not an optician, but a sales person. An optician is trained to meet the needs of the patient (even if that means no anti reflective coating), a sales person is trained to sell product to a customer, no matter what. -Tiffany, optician with 14 years experience

What does his EYE CHART say? Believe in things.......the rest is too small to read.
The problem with HEADLIGHTS in my state of Maryland, is the car window tinting and they insist on using headlights which are "blue-lights".
Or the larger personal use trucks, where their headlights sit up so high they blind you in the rear-view mirror or oncoming traffic. HORRIFIC!

I do know one thing... being a person with light sensitive eyes, unless the glasses/goggles hug my head, sunglasses generally cause your pupils to open up/grow larger, which allows more blue (and UV) light into the eyes from the sides... often more damaging light will be allowed in than you would get if you did not wear the sunglasses... I just wear a broad brimmed hat where possible...

I just spent $98 for AR, as I always do. I did not go to Costco, which is more reasonable than eye stores! I used to play piano as an accompanist and sometimes a spotlight would be troublesome. I noticed an improvement driving at night. Anyone wearing glasses with zoom meetings that require light on their face would look better with the AR coating. TV personalities that have spotlights on them need them!

OMG I hate that stupid anti-reflective coating. I let the salesman talk me into that once. That stuff was horrible! Always looks like a rainbow on the lenses, then after a while it started to flake off. It was awful! Next time I got glasses I told them not to put it on. I go to pick up the glasses and there it was I could plainly see it, it looks like a stinking rainbow on the lenses. I said hey, that's not supposed to be on there. They took a look at the paperwork and they're like oh yeah I see that you said you didn't want that but hey you got it for free cuz we didn't charge you. I'm like oh hell no, take them back and take it off. They're like oh we can't do that, I'm like the hell you can't because guess what? I know somebody that works in an eyeglasses lab and they said you can take it right back off. So send the glasses back and have them made properly. Which they did. And I've never gotten that stupid anti-reflective stuff on there ever again. The end. :-)

I don't know why they call those "anti reflective" since when someone takes a picture of you with your glasses on, nothing can be seen of your eyes. They just make a reflect and the pictures are poor. Here in Europe it is nearly mandatory to have those types of glasses and you have to specifically ask not to have them

@@kismyc0untryazz-491 it seems to be the standart (in France). Those glasses are very fragiles and you'd likely "scratch" them (sorry not my native language) and (the photography portraits - and selfies- sets apart) will end up seeing less.
I can't really compare the prices because my last pair of glasses I asked for another kind of glass, too - they call it "mineral glass" that can be shaped thinner, me having astigatism.
So I can't really compare... But I think they buy the glasses by the ton and that's why some kinds get cheaper...
All in all glasses are very expensive in France (and England) cheaper places in Europe (for glasses) are - to my knoledge - spain and hungaria (then belgium)

just this year March I got my new spec. This is 2nd one. The first glasses I noticed after many years i see more and more " cloudy mark ". I don't know what. I only use micocloth the standard spec cloth to wipe the lens daily. Than this year I decide to make a. new glasses. I bought it this year march. Now july i notice something weird , which I noticed a dot mark like keep appear on my left lens when I move to certain direction under bright lights to dark area. Will see that dot. I check the surface of the left lens compare with the right seem like there is some coating mark wear off. Later I google around and happen find this video than know what is lens coating. Also a lot claim lens coating will wear off after just months or years. Even you wipe careful. So I wonder how to prevent this in future ? if I going for my 3rd glasses when I noticed my eyesight degrade further.
