    That jade flash on blue base tint is absolutely gorgeous! I'm glad you had suggested that as one of the options on my Lagos, and it is - until today - my favourite pair of glasses, and my favourite tint (even when I compare against my more expensive frames which also have Zeiss tints). Would love a showcase of some (all?) of the light-to-medium tints you have done with flash coatings. Would be interesting to see how all (okay maybe not ALL) the combinations look!

    After hours of searching for frames, I finally get promt to choose the lens. Looking at all the options for the lens, I realize I'll need just as much time learning about the options. Thank you for this video.

    I notice every time I go to purchase a higher prescription, at my local shops, the optician will always recommend increasing the high-index lens so I can have thinner lenses. No discussion about optical clarity (Abbe values). This is why after my eye exam, I quickly walk through my doctor's eyewear store. Because of your informative videos, I purchased my first pair of sport eyewear with Trivex. I immediately notice the optical clarity it has compared to my everyday worn glasses with high-index or polycarbonate. Trivex is not offered where I used to shop. An online store will make glasses with Trivex as long as the frame fits the client's prescription range. Besides, prices at the local shops are ridiculous & quality control is below average.

    • @ikarugaxx3749
      @ikarugaxx3749 Рік тому +1

      Consider that Abbe values are about color distortion, which covers only a part of what goes by the name of "optical clarity".
      You will have hugely more optical clarity with glass lenses (which Zeiss do still manufacture) once you go beyond the 1,5 Refraction Index.
      Trivex is clearer than Polycarbonate. Much less than glass.

    Very interesting (as always🤓)! I would love you to continue this with a video about lens pricing. (You don´t really need to name exact prices, but it would be very interesting to know relative differences, like do Zeiss really cost 20% more than Essilor or Hoya etc.). I tried discussing different lens options with my optician here in Portugal but it went nowhere: he was rather irritated that I wanted something else than what he was intending to use and he would not disclose price differences, no matter how much I asked. He just went so far to say that something was more or less expensive. Finally, when I thought I could get what I wanted, he just said they were not available in the size necessary for my frame. Touché🙄. So, looking around on the net, I saw that in some cases, Zeiss Clearview were offered free of charge with a frame, while I was quoted about 400 euros per piece here in Portugal. I am sure that I am being taken for a ride, I don´t see how to prevent that, but I would at least like to know what are they playing and why...

      I’m in the USA and get the same treatment here. Even worse, they can’t clearly and concisely discuss different lens materials, coatings, tints, and lens manufacturer offerings. So sad. The optical industry is such a frustrating mess.

    • @raymondding5746
      @raymondding5746 Рік тому +3

      I don't think it's any better really in the UK. Generally speaking Zeiss lenses here are priced above your Essilors and Nikons etc but the difference between these prices can be less than the difference between what different opticians charge themselves - so the error margin is such that it's a redundant topic of discussion. I've bought Zeiss lenses from Rob before and been quoted prices for similar options from Hoya and there's not a big difference - it's usually far more noticeable if you use the online retailers. But also Rob is one of the few opticians I've spoken to in this country that is willing to speak objectively on the topic of lenses, rather than just promote whatever manufacturer they have a contract with. I obviously can't speak for the whole country but I have been to 30+ opticians across the north and south so it's a decent sample size.

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  Рік тому +1

      The trouble with pricing, and the reason I don't discuss it, is because firstly it differs in every market, and secondly you have to look at the total cost of a pair of glasses - the frame individually and the lenses individually based on what you can afford, and both elements are almost equally important.
      So it's a conversation you should have with an optician, who should then guide you to find the best pair of glasses within your budget. As we know, a lot of 'opticians' out there are rubbish, but that's hardly my fault.

    • @aleksandarbrzic8351
      @aleksandarbrzic8351 Рік тому +1

      Far be it from me to insinuate that that was your fault!!! I just like the transparency. Knowing that something is cheap or expensive will not change my opinion about it, as long as I can afford it. But I would like to know the relative proportions and not disclosing this always leaves a bit of an aftertaste in my mouth, if you know what I mean. I also don´t really understand why are people so uptight about pricing in general... I mean, in the end I will have to pay for what I want, would I not? That never changes...@@thespectaclefactory

    What lense technology and/or treatments would you suggest for someone with astigmatism and farsightedness. I found freeform technology gives much better vision compared to standard spherical lense. You mentioned Nikon myopsee, is there a manufacturer that has something like that but for astigmatism? Great video as always :). Regards

      @@ikarugaxx3749 I wear single vision lenses. Most of my glasses have hoya trueform (Nulux). Once I switched to plain spherical lenses. Terrible decision. My periphery vision was so bad that i had headaches all the time and i felt like swimming in the pool.

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  Рік тому +2

      Yes it does. Nowadays all lenses should be freeform. It isn't a new tech, it's like 20 years old at this point.
      Most individualised lenses should be better for your astigmatism. For example, Zeiss SmartLife Individual

    I went down a rabbit hole researching everything about glasses and lenses, and later in the future i might add choose some of those different rad tints and stuff! Those are beautiful and so cool! Good stuff, man! 😁👌🏻

    Robert, you said many of these can only be applied to plastic. Are you including Trivex? Or only CR39? Specifically for tints and flash coating. Was trying to order gradient (blue adaptive Sun with strong blue mirror and sweet violet with sapphire (both thanks to watching your videos) flash and their lab told them no to both.

    Question: I have problems with night vision driving (glare from oncoming lights, etc). Likewise, during they day time, even with sunglasses the bright (sun) glare distubs my vision when driving. What brand and type of lense is recommended for night and for day (I am short sighted, -5, in both eyes, I use plastic lenses, usually Hoya or Zeiss). My spectacles maker says that my lenses have anti-glare applied already (both sun-glasses and regular glasses too). Thank you.

    I dare say... if wearing contacts wears your eyes, there's a better option than Energize Me. Just stop wearing contacts, replacing them with normal eye-glasses all the time.
    Also, if you need to wear prescription lenses, I am not sure wearing those with a slight tint all the time won't strain your vision. I mean, if you wear a light-pink/yellow/other tint on your lenses 24h/day everyday, will your eye health stay the same as with transparent lenses?

    • @thespectaclefactory
      @thespectaclefactory  Рік тому +2

      Some people like to wear both glasses and contacts, so that's the best option for them.
      I can confirm that wearing a slight tint actually has the opposite effect - it can actually be relaxing for the eyes (depending on the colour of course)
