    I had no idea they even made a saleen explorer
    It's sweet!

    Nice to see someone finally talk about the carbon mirrors. Always been my favorite part of the car and it seems like most XP8s didn’t get them, but the ones that have it always get ignored

    What where the shocks in the front? Where they almost Bilstein shocks that matched the rear the B6 4600?

    • @NickRoshon
      @NickRoshon  Рік тому

      Yeah, both are the Bilstein B6 series. Part numbers are F4-B46-2131-H1 and F4-B46-2132-H1 from my receipt...which matched the OE units I replaced...the only difference is the OE units had a Racecraft decal on them instead of Bilstein.

      @@NickRoshon alright thanks. How does your truck ride with them? Those shocks for the set is about $400 which is the most expensive shocks for the second gen explorer’s they would have to ride like cloud 9 for me to spend that lol ive got a 99 eddie bauer woth only 60k i replaced the shocks with the white Gabriel Ultra’s and i feel lile those shocks are too stiff you feel everything.

      DeMuro's video was condescending and obnoxious, to be honest. He mispronounced Saleen (Suh-leen) throughout the video, essentially made fun of car and spewed tons of misinformation about the XP8 and Saleen. The only positive comments he made is when he actually drove it!! lol

    100x better than the video Doug DeMuro did. Thank you. DeMuro was condescending and obnoxious, to be plain. He essentially made fun of the car, and belittled it, all while mispronouncing Saleen (Suh-Leen) throughout the entire video! Completely negative, until he drove it!! lol He also spewed a bunch of misinformation about Saleen and the XP8.

    Fun fact there was an xp6 made. It was totally made on accident somehow they ordered some 6 cylinder xlts's. Instead of throwing them away they decided to use them there is only 6 registered in the owner registry.

His video is almost a parody, where he makes fun of the car and belittles it, until he drives it!! lol He also spews a ton of misinformation about Saleen in general and the XP8's and XP6.

    I love it, but you completely lost me when you stated it should be seen as a driver, because it has terrible fuel economy, is still a brick on wheels despite the suspension upgrades, and it's absurd to pay show truck prices for a "driver".
    I hope you get every penny you want out of it from someone who appreciates your efforts. I appreciate them too, but I think you went a bit OCD when you took on this project, even if you turn a profit.
    Nothing Saleen did, makes me think it is that much more than a collection of mods that anyone could do, besides that supposed esteem that comes from Saleen doing it for you.
    I just don't see it. I mean, the virtue on these old full framed explorers was the hauling capacity for their size, and the ability to to a lift for off-roading, but the Saleen added neither of those. It just gave a dangerous to drive vehicle, more horsepower and tried to mitigate that with a stiffer suspension when the softer stock suspension was already inherently bad due to it being body on frame with leaf and torsion bar suspension.
    It's a cool museum piece for sure. Outside that, a money pit. Nobody knows about them because they aren't in high demand and along with that, anything custom will have to be fabbed from scratch from now on.
    I'd rather just stick a fork in my eye.

    • @NickRoshon
      @NickRoshon  Рік тому

      Thanks for the thoughtful comment - a lot to unpack but I think we're mostly aligned ;)
      Driver - I mean this in the sense that it's not a museum piece, whoever buys it next should drive it. I took it regularly to work functions, daycare drop-offs, the grocery store, etc. It wasn't my vehicle of choice for canyon cruises of course, but the car is really fun for daily driving since it makes amazing noises, has a ton of space, and is pretty practical.
      OCD level of restoration - guilty as charged. I didn't do it to make the money back, this is just how I operate...a bit of a perfectionist, and tbh I probably enjoy the process of restoring it more than the process of enjoying the finished outcome. The idea of having the nicest 1998 Ford Explorer in the world was something of a half joke, half truth I told myself on a regular basis, lol...and compared to other cars I've worked on, parts were pretty readily available and cheap, so it made it easy to just replace anything that was worn/broken/old...and became one of those slippery slope projects with a lot of "while you're in there" resulting in what you see today.
      In terms of modifying SUVs for street performance going offroad - you're probably right on the large-scale, hence why the SVT trucks today are all offroad oriented (Raptor, etc.)...but in the 90s, most tuning was to make them more like muscle cars (SVT Lightning, Cyclone/Typhoon, ML55, etc.). Personally I think there is something cool about a Performance SUV and saying forget the laws of physics, let's see if we can overcome them and make this giant toaster shaped truck as fast as we can. We've come a long way in making SUVs drive a lot better, but I like the mix of truck + tuned mustang vibe that the XP8 has - even if it makes the car a "jack of many trades, master of none" as an outcome, it also means that it is a pretty versatile choice for a lot of different functions...
