The memorial is for my sister in law Sue, she passed away suddenly aged 49. Her favourite place in the world was Winterton on sea. My brother Warren goes once a month and it always looks beautiful but because of the lockdown he hasn,t been for 8 weeks now, so fresh flowers are not there but locals have kindly kept an eye on it. He loves everything about Winterton too the people are amazing. We lost our mum four weeks ago to coronavirus so you can imagine what we are going through , but to see this video was lovely and a nice escape, and to see Sues memorial at the end just perfect. Thank you from myself and Warren ❤ ps subbed 🤗
Hi Tim The memorial is for my Wife, we had some amazing holidays in Winterton and stayed in the cottage near the pub a couple of times, and her wish was for her ashes to be scattered on the beach. It’s a lovely village with wonderful people I’m starting to know. (Think I’m become a local) Like my sister Maxine said I go every month to lay fresh flowers there, and travel from Wellingborough Northamptonshire. But as I can’t get there the locals are looking after it for me, which is so kind if them. Thanks again for a wonderful Walk With Me.
My fathers side of the family lived here back when it was a small fishing village. We holidayed here since i was a child every year at the Hermanus and we moved to the village almost ten years ago. Theres a lot of history here, the Hermanus round houses are based of South African huts. And the Main lobby was taken over by the army during the Second world war as a place to stay. If anyone is interested you can go up the church tower it was recently worked on.
I was lucky enough to have grown up in Winterton on sea. I lived there from birth until I fled the nest at the age of 22. I still live locally and often visit Winterton. My mum and dad lived there but sold their house about 8 years ago. Doh! Winterton has gone crazy property wise since I lived there. Too many Londoners with 2nd homes unfortunately.... This video has made me realise how lucky I was to grow up there! Forever grateful.
The cottages are just gorgeous. These little villages are so warm and inviting. Just amazing to see this. Makes you want to take a trip and relax a bit. Lovely place!!
Just looking back over your early work, the walk to Winterton takes me back to school days in the late 1970's, at the end of the school year the whole school would walk from Great Yarmouth Grammar School to Winterton and back, such great memories.
Village from where my paternal grandmother hails, where fisher folk lived and plied their trade. Beautiful day but in Winter with a strong north easterly blowing, trying to lauch a boat was a tricky prospect. Several ships ran aground on the beach there. The dune area was used by the military in WW2 to practice manouvers. My relative Matthew Sheales has a plaque in the Fishermans.
Went today on the strength of this clip - it was wonderful and great to know what to look out for - the beach cafe is open for takeaways and there is a parking charge at the beach carpark - but wonderful and not too crowded
🍎 Great walk as always. Enjoy the aerial views at the beginning to get a sense of place. Enjoy the near ration as well. I would love to stay at those little Hermanas round houses. Looks amazing. - Henry
Hi love the boat full of flowers .... it’s very creative and I could also see it in my garden .... Thanks for your lovely tours around wintertime .... it’s a beautiful place
Beautiful work again Tim, it's great that you are making this documentation of the Norfolk coast. This will be a real treat for people to watch in 100+ years time. Well done again.
I started coming to great yarmouth in 1968 with my parents, we used to come every year for two weeks for the last week in july and the first week in august we always stayed on salisbury road number 63 i think, the owners where called tony and mary a couple who had moved up from london years earlier. We visited winterton on a few occasions visiting the hermanus club and we had a great time. Yarmouth is one of my fav places because it brings back my memories of my parents, i have been back for a number of weekend stays over the last 25 years and will be coming back.
I've been going to Hermanus on holiday since I was 6 (42 years) I love Winterton on Sea, so peaceful & beautiful. Thanks, was lovely to see it, looking forward to going back after lock down
I was raised near thurne and taken to Winterton beach all the time as a kid, and in around 2003ish a coast guard spraying a line in the sand track to the beach saying "in 2006 the sea will be at this line". I also remember the cafe being miles away from the beach during this time. How times change.
I know , what will it be like in a few years .. the diggers have been moving some sand about recently but I think it will only delay what will happen 😪
We’ve been on that exact same beach today. Perfect for social distancing, kids went swimming in the sea and we all watched the seals watching us. So gorgeous.
Wow, what a beautiful village and beach, I'm an artist and would love so much to come up to Norfolk on the coast for some painting. The flat landscapes and big skies are perfect! Thanks for sharing your walks at these times when we are stuck indoors a lot of the time :-)
Haven't seen the place since circa '84-'88 when I went there on family holidays, so thanks for bringing back some good memories fella. - Mostly good anyway! Nice to see that not a lot has changed over the years. Nice one.
Fabulous promotion of the beautiful holidays in Norfolk and picturesque places to visit found winterton on sea by chance one year when was looking for dog friendly beaches for my dogs first time on the beach
Once when I went to the Isle of man I found a rock that said return me to Winterton-on-sea or keep my and i just happened to live in caister at the time so I returned it
My boyfriend lives here and I love staying there! We go for beach walks see the seals and go for a walk around east somerton check out the old ruin church! Will be a good video
Just got back from a week here at Winterton cottages , the pink one with the blue garage door….. beautiful place , so relaxing … pub is great , the little post office is now poppys cafe a little gem, and on the beach front the old cafe has long gone into the sea but there’s now 3 different food shacks in the car park….. a hidden gem as Tim says ….. love it 🥰
We went there one year when we were stating at Hemsby. Those round houses are so cute. I wanted to bring one home lol. We were actually allowed to look round one. My cousin loves it there.❤
We booked a night to stay at The Fishermans as they were a dog friendly pub. They didn't mention the rooms were only accessible by a ladder. It took a lot of people to get our two German Shepherds upstairs. When the dogs decided they wanted a pee in the night (never had done before) we had a bit of a struggle, both up and down the ladder...
We were in Winterton-on-Sea last week. It was lovely. The dunes stretch from Winterton to Horsey about 5km down the coast. It was a real treat to see the seal pups in January just about ready to go to sea. The young seals go surprisingly far inland to escape the bulls, and they even take to inland ponds. ...absolutely magical place.
Hi I've been coming to Hemsby and Newport and great Yarmouth since I was a child . I have never been to Winterton it looks beautiful and the little village is stunning. Those little roundhouses were amazing I'd love to stay in them . Thanks for sharing with us Tracey xxx
Wow! Ive never heard of this place- it's incredible. I need to stay here with 'wifey', if it's possible. In the 70s/80s, I always stayed at Corton Caravan Camp (owned by Mr Potter) in Stirrups Lane. Great times ahead, hopefully.
I haven’t been to Winterton but after seeing this video, it sure is on the top of my list, of fantastic places to visit. Thank you for all your beautiful videos.
If your a dog walker too winterton is amazing we was lucky enough that my mother in law has a chalet their so enjoyed many a time walking this beautiful hidden gem
What a treasure! Although the coastline has suffered erosion, the allure of the village and its environs remains eternal. This weekend, our family had the pleasure of discovering Winterton. The video may be dated, yet it remains pertinent. Thank you.
I am now 67. You just took me back to when I was 10 and my mum and dad rented a house out there. Many happy holidays there for years. I used to know the owners of the big farm house and hairdressers as it was in my time. And the daughter as well. The dad used to work with the big ships in Yarmouth. I better stop there. Happy Years. Thanks.
Slowly working my way through your walks and loving them all. I like the way you talk as you go and tell us interesting facts about the places. We are coming to Norfolk for a week next week and are looking forward to visiting Winterton and the surrounding area because of what we have seen on your videos. Keep up the good work 😀
